This piece (BWV542) has been my fascination for many years. But it was your interpretation, Madam, that made it show its whole splendor. Thank you dearly for that.
Did you try out the interpretation from the late John Scott ? While I won't deny Mrs Sager is an exceptional organist, I'd kill to play half as good as that, Mr Scott's performance has my preference.
Sorry for my bad English. This sounds great to me! I love the way she play the fugue, without any changes of stops, and she keep the a tempo all the way to the last chord!
Was soll man dazu sagen? Keine Eitelkeit, kein Ego: SDG!
Sparkling performance. I love her registration and beautifully clear phrasing. To my very amateur mind, she paces the fugue perfectly and one can enjoy the counterpoint evolving at a civilized pace. There are a number of recordings on you tube, which make one think that it's all a race. From the outset, the speed is breathtaking and impossible to enjoy in a musical sense. Phrasing is cast aside ; it becomes an exercise in unfeeling virtuosity, where one is left open mouthed and bemused. This wonderful lady gets to the heart of the piece with her performance, and at its conclusion one is left content and thrilled rather than shattered and musically bereft. The organ is impressive as well.
Philip Savins, I am sorry for my inadequate English. Quote: "; it becomes an exercise in unfeeling virtuosity." ....virtuosity. Bach loved to impress people to show them his technical skills. Quote from an old source: "He often play his own composition very fast." Some people want to adapt their romantic hearts to Bach's virtuosity - it don't work. He composed a large number of expressive music, but the fugue BWV 542 is not amongs them. So I think that Katja play the fugue too slow? No, I agree with you, the pace is very good! But don't believe that all his compositions should move our hearts. As I said before, he loved to show his technical skills.
This is one of the most wonderful organ pieces of Bach. In his course, Vicent d'Indy compared onre of its modulations to one of Tristan! It requests an acute sense of rregistration to underline and give a specific color to each of the layers of this fantasy. This is noticefully done. A great job !!!!! Note that the baginning influenced directly Poulenc, who wrote in almost the same way the beginning of his concerto for organ, strings and timbals.
Found you on Tube couple of days ago. And now you're in my favs. You play so beautiful! Also the way you perform Jehan Alain. Simply stunning! Pls post more! A fan....
WOW! Amazing! Excellent dynamics. Ms. Sager really captures the feel and emotion of this piece. Truly a major talent! Thank you for sharing, and keep up the good work!
Klasse Darbietung!
Beautifully played! Though, I would not use the trombone 16ft for the pedals. I'd reccomend the Open diapason 16ft and add the octave for a more mellow sound!
Wonderful! Perfectempo! I play this fromemory and hardly move. If I did her "body English" I'd be hitting wrong notes. Pedal needs mixtures and Principal chorus. 7:20 I trill the long notes. Surprised that she does not.
I agree very much with geir oyvind eskeland. This piece is really hard to play. A lot of orgonists try to play it faster as their knowledge allows them to play so they forced to keep stops and changes in tempo when difficult part is coming, But this piece must be played keeping the same tempo even if you have to play it a little bit slower. So I think the lady does it well: a little slower but keeping the tempo
How does she create those different sounds on the organ? Some sections are very bright and then it goes to a completely different mellow sound. Is it the keyboard she chooses out of the 3?
Each keyboard is one seperate organ on its own. Per keyboard you have multiple ranks (60 pipes = one rank = one sound). With the buttons on the left and right of the keyboards you can turn ranks on and off. Some organs like this one have also preset combinations of ranks which the organist can preconfigure. Like preset 1 turns particilar pipes on, preset 2 other ones, etc. With the toe buttons next to the swell pedals, and buttons underneath the keyboards, you can change the choosen preset.
Sorry for my bad English. Gosh! How many times do I have listening to the Fugue? Maybe thirty times, but not the Fantasia, only the Fugue. Good registration, very well played and the sound is very good too.
Yvan Azastrasz, sorry for my inadequate English. "...late John Scott." I just listen to an old John Scott wearing a tie, is that the right video? Fantasia: Too romantic to my taste. Fugue: I like the improvisation, the ornament at the final chord. But else - no. I prefer organplayers who try to restore the old music. When it comes to fugues, no changes between manuals, thanks.
Yes, that must have been him. If you searched for John Scott and BWV542 there's only one I think. (late just means he's unfortunately deceased now) I get what you say. Matter of taste then I'd guess. You must be loving Walcha then.
Walcha? Sorry, no. Here is some of my favourites: Christian Barthen, BWV 564, the fugue + preludium and fugue BWV 541. Bwv 582, Maria Vekilova. And the most important of them all- Anthony Newman, BWV 544 the preludium, both pedal harpsichord and organ.
Question de goût voyez.

Danke Frau Sager.
Eine Meisterin ! Göttlich ...

@@yvanazastrasz9013 Or Lionel Rogg, 1970 on the Arlesheim Silbermann. That's still my go-to.
I listened to the other recommendations. Sager's interpretation is still my favourite.
Sorry for my bad English.
This sounds great to me! I love the way she play the fugue, without any changes of stops, and she keep the a tempo all the way to the last chord!
Fantastic! The fugue is spectacular!
Wow! I lack words. Just brilliant! Thanks.
She is in her "zone", simply amazing.
Bravo.
Bravo !
Si dice brava non bravo
Super!

Bravissima, affascinante, che Dio ti benedica.
Great performance! Very consistent tempo in Fugue! Interesting pedal voices. Thank you for posting!! (from Canada)

Thank you for sharing this. I love your organ playing very much!
Fantastic playing, just like others wrote. Above that: the dancing queen in the fugue. Marvellous!
Love that! Dancing Queen! 😁
This lady can really play! Love it!
Very nice version, especially of the fugue! Very joyful yet relaxed. Thank you for bringing it to us!
Great job, on one of the most demanding pieces!
BRAVO!!!!!!

Bravissimo Katie...
Very nice, congrats, thank you. A camera on the pedalboard would be very appreciated.
Thank you for the marvelous experience. A joy! Brava! Brava!

like her music layout! Very inventive and cute. Many are reverting to digital displays to make music control easier. Great performance.
Ganz großartig.
Gran versión, en especial la Fuga. Gracias!
played so beautifully
Stunning interpretation, you really touch my heart with your play.
Das ist echtes wunderbar!!
Masteressful! And of course, You´re BEATIFFIC!!!
Sehr gut und gefühlvoll interpretiert. Danke sehr !
wunderbahr, orgelstechnic sehr schön!!

so schön, mach weter so
the fugue may be standard but also magnificently intense, especially towards the last three minutes.
Wonderful interpretation.
Great! i love that fantasy
Wonderful!

+ Jhr. Humphrey: Zeer mooi.
anyone else hear some kind of "maultrommel" register on the left at 7:10?

1:58 was it on purpose an Eis/Mi#? A different version? Or rather a D/Re?
Daniel Groza, the original is unknown. There are several copies.
Fucking superb interpretation! One of my faves.
I like. You are playful as you play. Maybe that's why it's called Fantasie und Fugue.
from the looks she gave i sense that it is also called - imbecility and insanity - but iam no musican - what the hell do i know..
Fugue at 5:40
good

Excellent, and Katja looks like a girlfriend I once dated

Truly headbang fugue
Lovely sound but I found it hard to watch - too much swaying around.
Dont focus on it. She´s not doing it for being pretentious.
