You gotta remember that Theodon was just coming out of a spell that weakened him both physically and mentally, only to find that his friend betrayed him, his nephew was banished, his son was dead, and an army was coming to kill his people. On top of all that, he has no army to defend them. Theodon was struggling, which is why Gandalf told Aragorn he would need him, not to take over, but to help remind him who he is.

I didn’t see king Theodeon as negative or cowardly but having a normal reaction of despair due to how overwhelmed they were. That despair comes from his love for his people and their fate. Don’t worry I think they’ll change their minds with the last movie. The movie also doesn’t show how Theodeon got to this point of despair. It could be guilt because he was under Saurumon’s influence that led to the death of his son. I don’t know, I like King Theodeon .

Evacuating Edoras which is clearly not defencible against Isengard's armies while Gandalf is portrayed as the voice of reason for advocating a suicidal open field battle against the Uruks even though Theoden doesn't have most of his strength.

When Andy Serkis auditioned for the role Gollum was originally going to pure animation and he was just gonna do the voice, but then in the audition he impressed the casting director and Peter Jackson so much that they said he should actually play the part physically with Elijah Wood and Sean Astin.
They then decided that because they couldn’t use makeup to create Gollum that they instead use motion capture like the kind used in video games, like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. And that one legendary performance led to the creation of what is now know as Performance Capture, which Andy Serkis is now the absolute master of.
And as for the voice he got the idea for it from seeing his cat coughing up a hairball.

It was an incredible experience and I got to play many different characters. Filming The Battle of Helms Deep was an amazing time. The atmosphere on set was amazing. Tolkien studied languages, particularly old Northern European languages. “Eo” is “horse” in Old English, derived from the Anglo-Saxon. King Theoden is an often underestimated character. At the time of the story, he is an old man of 70 and has ruled Rohan well for over 40 years, defending it against orcs and many other dangers. At this point, he had actually wanted to pass the regency on to his son and rock his grandchildren on his knees. Then he is mentally enslaved by Saruman, his son dies and he has to go back into battle. Then comes Aragorn, the pretender to the throne of Gondor, who gives him advice. And in the end he knows that it was Aragorn, not him, who won the battle at Helm's Deep. Although he can look back on a long and good reign, he has deep self-doubts as to whether he is a good king. This is also the reason for his occasional unruly behavior. But in the end, he always knows the right thing to do. He is one of the greatest and noblest characters in the triology.

    • @thevagrantgaming
      @thevagrantgaming 2 месяца назад +2

All of this is valid but to be clear, Theoden didn’t think Aragorn was a pretender to the throne. He knows who he is and that Aragorn fought with his father Thengel. It’s a pretty big reason why he even listened to pep talk in the keep even though these were basically reversed from the book.

In the book, Saruman is Saruman the white, but in his attempt to be even more powerful, he breaks the white light and becomes Saruman the many coloured. His cloak takes on a prism effect. It shows his disrespect for the natural order of things, that the wizards were sent to Middle Earth to protect. That is also why Gandalf can break Saruman's spells when he comes back as the white wizard. He has the power of the gods on his side. Saruman has abbondoned that path.

Viggo is Aragorn. Not just an actor but a painter, photographer, sculptor, published books of poetry, recorded musical albums. Viggo speaks 7 languages, 8 including Elvish. Viggo is an expert Horse rider & trainer. Training his horse to kneel down and pick him up from the river. That is very hard to get a horse to do! Viggo bought the horse and his horse from Hidalgo. A stuntwoman on LOTRs became very close to the horse she was doing stunts on (Arwen's Horse). At the end of the production the horse was being sold. The Stuntwoman could not afford to buy the Horse and was heartbroken. Viggo found out and bought the Horse for her. When Viggo was not need on the set of LOTRs for filming he and his horse would ride off into the mountains. Living off the land for days. To this day I still haven't read the books. I am with Theodan. He doesn't have the numbers. Rohan is best known for their riders. Their cavalry on an open field is hard to beat. Despite that, they can't take on 100 thousand orcs. That's all before their best riders left with the nephew.
Theodan's best option is Helms Deep. A siege benefits the defender. Had the wall not blown up, they could have defended against and killed all 100 thousand orcs. Sure they would have lost lots of people, but they would have won.
The only questionable decisions he made were to not send riders to ask for help. Something the movie answers. There's no guarantee their plea would be answered. @@jamedraa8472 I was just going to comment this. Sam literally gives a line of exposition in this cut about the Elven cloak hiding them. So much of the time in reactions on this channel, Roxy and Tara are throwing out guesses about what just happened or what's about to happen, and often they're doing it over the top of the line of dialogue that answers the question they're guessing about and so they end up missing it. Then Roxy is all skeptical and like, "I have questions." Meanwhile, I'm sitting there thinking, "You wouldn't have questions if you actually listened to the dialogue instead of trying to guess."
Good movies don't make the audience work that hard to come up with theories about what's going on. They give you set-ups and payoffs. Nobody needs to be like, "I wonder if Frodo was really into jewelry in the Shire and that's why the Ring has such a hold on him? Maybe his uncle was a jeweler or something? Did Bilbo talk about working as a jeweler? I think I remember something about that..." or whatever. The movie would give you that info if you needed it. If you're reaching that far, it ain't it.
I get that this is a reaction channel and so people need to talk rather than just sit there and watch a movie like a normal person. BUT that talking doesn't have to be constantly trying to guess everything that's going to happen by meta-gaming filmmaking. Tbh, there are a few reaction channels I've unsubscribed from because all their reactions devolved into just constantly trying to guess everything before it happened instead of just watching the movie and enjoying it as it unfolds. It's like, bro, I know you feel clever that you guessed the twist in "The Sixth Sense" halfway through the movie (after throwing out a dozen other wrong guesses first), but, tbh, you ruined the reaction by doing that. Nobody's tuning in to see you pat yourself on the back and go, "I knew it!" They're watching to see you react with shock when the twist is revealed. Just let the movie happen.

So.. i mean if you found a cool rock and dropped it, someone else found it before you could get it back, is that considered stolen from you? Or just finders keepers? I mean bilbo heard someone yelling for it and ran off with it so technically it may not be stealing because it never truly belonged to gollum but bilbo found something shiny, took it, and ran from the person claiming it…. I mean…He kinda stole it😅😂 but I mostly do agree with you haha

Theoden is one of my favorite characters. He was under a spell for a long time. When he came out of it his entire world was destroyed, son was dead, kingdom in ruin. He largely sees himself as a failure of a king and is desperate to do what he can to save what little he has left. He’s just a broken man who needs to find his faith and confidence again which he does by the end of this movie.

Almost forgot. The Battle of Helm's Deep.
At the beginning, the humans of Rohan were numbered at only 300. Then an contingent of 1,000 Elven archers led by Haldir joined them right before the moment of engagement. When dawn broke, Gandalf and Eomer led a further 2,000 soldiers into battle from the rear trapping the Orc horde between the mountain fortress and the charging horsemen practically diving down into the valley. Gandalf himself worthy of possibly 10,000 warriors just by himself with his great magic. It's no wonder the humans won.

1:36:40 see, this is the perfect example of what people are talking about. When people are talking about, "they just keep talking over everything, instead of listening, then they get the entire plot misconstrued" which is valid, but then someone says, "thats what a reaction is. What, do you want them to just sit there and watch the screen and be silent?" Which is ALSO valid. Theoden roars and charges into battle, and Roxy immediately starts doing the annoying, "this is DEFINITELY gonna happen" when she says, "Theoden's definitely gonna die" (which he doesn't). And Tara does the natural "AHHHHH OK, LETS GO" kind of reaction, shutting Roxy up (thankfully). I get it, its nice to guess as to what will happen and it ends up being right, but when you sacrifice 75% of the movie's dialogue and exposition because you're too busy talking, does the correct guess matter? No one's saying to just sit there silently and watch the movie, but there's a point where you're messing up the movie for yourself, which in turn spoils the video for the viewer, because we don't get the thoughts on the movie, we get, "did you guys see where I guessed what would happen?" (Which literally happens at 1:43:12 lmao)
Edit: At the end of the day, it just doesn't seem like Roxy wants to be there. Tara genuinely wants to, but she's also getting mixed up from Roxy's interjections. My message to Tara, watch the movies again (alone), but watch the extended, and you'll like it even more and everything will make sense

They miss out of dialogue in elvish because they don’t watch with subtitles. I could go on. The fact is, that this is the way Theoden is portrayed in this cut: as a weak, indesicive leader.
This is the way people, including myself, saw the film when it was shown in theatres. I had read the books beforehand, but I don't see a problem with portaying him this way. It creates another level of conflict in the film, wich makes it more interesting than just having a straight good vs evil dynamic.
It also makes the conclusion of Theoden's arc so much greater in the next film.

The theatrical cuts are commonly agreed to be better films. Pacing is better and it makes for much more emotionally engaging watches, especially on first viewings.
Even Jackson has said that the theatrical cuts ARE the director's cut; that he thinks the theatrical are a better viewing experience and better movies, but that the extended are a nugget for fans.
The extended cuts ruin a lot of moments and punches that the theatrical initially give you. For example, it ruins Aragorn's arrival with the ghost army in ROTK, as the extended shows you they agree to come while the theatrical leaves you thinking they refused.
