The snow is all gone so fast - I'll have to wait until April for that, in my neck of the woods. It's nice to see a green forest and open lake in the background. Watching these videos makes me wonder about all the eagles and birds in the wild, that are hard at work with egg-duty. It's us humans that are mostly hibernating, this time of year. I like when Jackie wakes up in the morning and announces her presence to The Brand New Day. Enjoy the brand new day everyone !

Since Shadow arrived, he & Jackie have hatched & fledged 2 chicks. In 2019, they had Simba & Cookie, both of whom were tagged. Several days later, around May 26, a snow/sleet storm rolled in. The chicks were too large to both completely shelter under Jackie, and early on May 27, Cookie died on the nest. Simba survived, though, and fledged. He is the only eagle from this nest that would be identifiable, as he's the only one to have been tagged. In 2022, Jackie laid 2 eggs, but only 1 was viable. Spirit hatched on March 4 and successfully fledged on May 31. She left the nest for good on June 23. Along the way, Jackie & Shadow have had non-viable clutches, double clutches and near-hatches. The saddest of these (I forget which year...I wanna say 2021?) was when one of the hatchlings pipped (broke through) the egg. You could hear the delicate chirps as the chick began the process of hatching. But that night, Fiona (the flying squirrel that visits the nest at night) showed up, triggering a leaping wing-slap from Jackie. Unfortunately, in lunging for Fiona, Jackie appeared to have stepped on the hatching egg. No more chirps were heard from the egg again, and it remained non-viable along with the other intact egg until abandoned by Jackie & Shadow and left to be consumed by scavenging ravens. They forbid such discussions on the Eagle Cam page, but I know what I watched (and I followed closely). And that is the reality of what happened with that particular clutch. Reality, though, is not allowed to be talked about in chat on the official page and is deemed "harmful speculation", or some such nonsense, which is patently insane. This year is the 2nd time Jackie has had a 3-egg clutch. The odds against all 3 hatching & fledging are staggering. Even if they are viable and all 3 successfully hatch, the 3rd chick will be at a severe competitive disadvantage. (the 3rd egg even looked smaller than the other 2 eggs) It can be heart-rending to loose chicks on the nest, but if even 1 of them fledges it will be a victory for Jackie & Shadow (they will have increased the eagle population at last) and something beautiful to see.
@fabianafarci4298 Fiona wants to eat some fish scraps so she comes to the nest every night. She is strictly nocturnal and eagles cannot see well when it is dark. Jackie can only hear Fiona. Fiona is very fast, so she will be OK. ❤️😍🥰
@RepentfollowJesus These eggs are too large for Fiona but she would take an egg shell.Last year, when the eggs were broken by Jackie, Fiona took some parts of the egg shells. Jackie mostly rests when she takes a break. She likes sitting in the nearby trees. Camera can sometimes find her taking a break in the Lookout Snag, Sticks Depot Snag and other nearby trees.

I've only been watching them since last year. Have they ever had a successful brood that grew to adulthood?
I believe they've had two out of five hatched chicks survive. Jackie had a partner before Shadow and they had one survive to adulthood.
