Honestly this was such a good time. Standards were so much more attainable then. An average highschooler with $20 could pull off the 2014 look perfectly. It was easy, it was comfortable. Even the skinny jeans, which is weird cause now they're uncomfortable, but back in the day i dont ever remember being uncomfortable in them. It wasn't so much about fashion. No push to buy products.
This has made me long for all those fashions that i couldnt wear at my private middle school. Neon blue hair, fishnets under riped jeans, those cheap plastic chokers, and punk christian iconography ❤ loved this!
I'm an elder millenial and I don't think I've moved past this haha. Not that all my clothes accurately depict my ideal style. Which is kinda what brought me here. Looking at photos and wondering why I even own some items that just don't look like "me". Growing up in the 90s I was heavily influenced by punk and grunge styles. So soft grunge is just a timeless not over the top way to wear that kind of thing. I think people should find their own style and not be like "oh this is what 2014 was and then 2016 was this other thing." New products become available that you might like or not so there's that.. but it's wild to me to go from like an edgy style and then be like "oh it's a new year, I'm going to wear an all beige outfit now bc that's what this year's style is." It's fine to try different things but I mean the reasoning behind it. Wear things bc you feel like yourself in them, not bc it's what you think you need to wear bc you see others wearing it.
No right I'm 18 so I was a tad bit too young for the soft grunge aesthetics, but I loved the "pastel goth" and menhera fashion way back when but since i was so young i sadly couldn't obtain those styles, but now that I can I'm very excited to start making more outfits inspired by this style!
I was 20 in 2014, this was the year where I got to find my personal style, tried every color in my hair. Loved wearing choker necklace and ripped or studded jeans. So happy to see this style coming back. looking forward to this revival with hair accessories to!
im going to coachella this year and for Lana I want to go all out on a cute outfit blending both 2014 aesthetics thank you sm for the refresher cant belive this was 10 years ago omg🤧
one of my favorite fashion era's. when i see these outfits i don't think of skinny jeans as such a bad thing anymore. maaaaaybe i would wear the black ones again someday with a jean jacket/leather jacket.

one phrase to “define” 2014: normal people scare me. (in ahs font)
Pls that phase had me in a chokehold
So true 😂

IT WAS DEFINTELY THE BEST AND MOST ICONIC YEAR
who remembers the daisy shirt from UO!? I wanted one so bad that I contemplated on diy-ing it
Don’t forget the Lita boot by Jeffrey Campbell
yess! so true, totally forgot
so jealous i never got to truly experience being on tumblr in 2014 since i was only 6 😔

yess! black skinny jeans are a classic, the only ones i still own
you get it
Its like "messy girl " vibes
totally !
It must be exhausting only wearing shit that's "trending". Everyone always looks the same and boring
Most people nowadays dress like it's 2004 - I still dress like it's 2014. 😂
iconic
Why does anyone follow “trends”? Wear what you want. I came here to peep out women’s grunge wear for my apparel brand.
Agree, it's nice to get inspiration from trends to try new things, but you shouldn't let them lead your personal style.
This, exactly! So many people don't have a personal style anymore.
