  • Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta is on the growing list of men and women eyeing the presidency in next year's general election. A scion of the country's founding father, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, Uhuru has been rated by various opinion pollsters as Prime Minister Raila Odinga's main challenger in the 2012 race to state house. But what does he stand for? What are his chances in the presidential race? And is he a pampered prince, seeking the country's top job from a pedestal of entitlement? Kenyatta answered those questions and many others, and here is this week's edition of "the Kibaki succession: countdown 2012" series with Francis Gachuri.

@sirjonduke I absolutely support your sentiments. Kenya needs a transformational leader. We all must ignore the cold war mentality of dominance and work together as Kenyans in a society where a Kikuyu can invest in Kisumu and employ Luos, etc. not one where people feel that their tribe must be at the top. That's why I agree with you that we need people like Peter Kenneth, I have met him in London and believe me Kenyans, in him we have a leader for the two tribes in Kenya; the rich & the poor.

@riakanauproper; my brother your word is my command, however, I feel that PK may have been a KANU right hand man, but the guy is reformed and I believe he is now a progressive leader. I think Moi made all of us KANU as he never provided any alternative and indeed suppressed any challenging ideas but now? we can almost separate the chaff from the grains. We all know though that Ruto and Uhuru still have some way to go before convincing Kenyans that they deserve to lead.

Uhuru Kenyatta is looking better each day. Ocampo was the only roadblock that posed a challenge to his path but Ocampo has nothing on him. Ruto is in deep trouble, Kalonzo is clean but has little influence. Saitoti has been there for too long.

Election is about numbers, which Uhuru has, his skeptics may not like it, but it remains the plain fact on the ground.

Uhuru has 2 big hurdles- ICC and being a Kikuyu. The first one i dont know if he has control over- ICC is also a political court and so he might manage to convince the 'bigger powers
to let him be. The second tag, that of a Kikuyu president after another Kikuyu is also difficult to beat, since Kales by and large are safer with Rao than kikuyus

He is more of the same. Kenya needs a transformational leader like PK, not a tribalist who will more than likely make the rich richer. He's been laying off the controversial rhetoric thanks to ICC heat but as they say, a tiger doesnt change its stripes.

ever since the ICC charged this man I think I'm starting to warm up to him and like him, there might be something in him that can transform kenya and is a threat to colonial powers just like Gaddafi was a threat, I hope he campaigns well and is convincing beyond a reasonable doubt

I know he was targeting Raila at 7:10...being surrounded by slums. But then the slums is a sign of poverty in parts of the country you want to lead and using it t settle political scores tells sth about your unfeeling personality. As a candidate you should be addressing the issue instead of using it to attack someone.

@MrSimkariuki You speak like a blind man. You are the guys who try to say that RAO has done nothing. Well, all those years Kenyatta and Kibaki lead Kenya what did they do to the women who are crashing pebbles in Nyeri? To answer you, I would vote for PK, Muite, Martha Karua, RAO, Gitobu, etc. we all know them. The truth is, RAO & others have given you the democratic space when your tribesman Kibaki said; trying to stop KANU is like cutting a Mugumo tree with a razor blade. Get your facts!!

@MrSimkariuki And who can blame a small tribal mind like yours? I support progressive Kenyans like PK, RAO, Gitobu, Muite, but it's a shame that yours is just the village mind of "our man" Shame on you.
