Very informative. And when in doubt, call your dealership. They should be able to tell you yes or no if you tell them what you plan to do. On the interior mods don't list, the seats are also a no. They have an occupancy sensor in them, so if you swap seats it will keep the SRS/air bag light on.

Mr. Smee, I just want to say *thanks* for continually welcoming new car people to your channel. You don't ignore or talk down, ever. That is very cool. I cant believe the quality of your wrap. Btw- how many Subies have you owned?

Best modification I ever did on the brakes was to get quality covered stainless steel lines and Porterfield R4S brake pads. They dust like hell but OMG you can hammer them again and again with little to no brake fade.
The paint lines are torque stripes. Let's you know if a bolt or screw has lost its torque, due to vibration, just by looking at it. Its more of a Quality Assurance thing. Its a lot easier when inspecting the engine bay, to just look and see if all the stripes are still lined up, than it would be to go back through and put a torque wrench on everything again. Also helps keep track of which bolts you have already torqued when you are putting it all together
I got my 2019 sti last august right off the lot brand new. I got an extended warranty on it until 100k / 10 years. I’m at almost 12k now almost a year later and I’ve only put a catback exhaust, wheels, tires, engine bay dress up, and a bunch of small interior and exterior changes. So far it’s been flawless and is a great car unmodified. Prepare to be surprised, but I’ve never found myself wanting more from it. If I want to absolutely fly down the road and go ham I take out my fully built motor 6speed swap track ready 02 wrx out.
It's pretty easy to prove it though. Just get a Master Tech say so. Every dealer I called said a cat-back will not void anything; yet, SOA told me, "It might. It depends." Then went on that "Usually" when someone puts an after market exhaust, "They retune the ECU." So, if no retune, then a cat-back shouldn't void anything except warranty on the parts that have been replaced with the after market parts. Correct?
This helps me a lot man I literally just bought a Impreza last week and was wondering what I can do to the car with out voiding the warranty thanks a lot

I just want to make sure I keep the factory warranty for a while since it is a 2020 and has 4 years and 35,000 miles left on the powertrain warranty. From the carfax it seems like it could be true that a tech owned, but I definitely want to quiz them about it and give it a good look over and test drive.

I wonder... If you swapped the transmission to same year/model outside of the dealership does that void my engines powertrain warranty or affect the engine oil consumption recall ? Its running perfectly, do I have disclose I swapped the transmission to the dealer? will they even know?
Your warranty is not voided by modding. The only thing the dealer can do is not work on it if the mod is shown to have caused the issue. I have taken my 17 WRX Stage 2 in multiple times and have had no issues getting parts repaired (intake cam sprocket I'm looking at you). If they void your warranty and you paid for it, you can get the money back.
That is true you can get the money back if you paid for a third party warranty, but as stated they have to trace the modification to the failure. In subtle cases where an item wears faster than it should it is generally covered but in the extreme case of flashing a tune on the car and blowing the engine jt is not covered
If you buy the vehicle used but you flush the ECU does it give you a time stamp or would it just say that it was flashed at some point so you could do the I bought it used I don’t know what was done to it before comment
I saw that you said that an AOS will void your warranty, I got the IAG street series AOS and I've heard that it wont void the warranty unless it was the the cause of the source of the failure. Is this true?
I noticed you didn’t mention an after market air intake. Does that mean that an Air intake does void the warranty? I was under the impression that it did not.
ETS states they don’t require a tune for their intake. Theoretically, if I swap back the stock airbox before taking it to the dealer they won’t flag/void my warranty for being modified right?
A tune is highly suggested, you won't benefit at all from using an intake without a tune to go with it. The ECU will send the same amount of fuel and you'll run lean.
Even though the cars have flash counting abilities the dealer has to send the ecu to Subaru to check to see if the flash was from a accessport or a dealership as the dealerships don’t have the software to access that part of the ecu....... at least that is what a Subaru master tech I used to work with told me
May be dealer dependent, the dealership that I go to has the software to pull ECU data for flashes. Regardless just want people to be aware that is SOA has to do an investigation they can find out 🙏
So I’m needing a new transmission, but i have coil overs and different wheels on it from when I bought it, will that void my warranty? Or should I just switch back to stock in the meantime while they do a diagnostic on my Subaru?
If someone bought something from you that had never been used, new condition still in the box, messed with it, it failed, and came back to you for their money or asked you to fix it for free what would you do? That’s right! Like the english proverb says “You can’t expect to have your cake and eat it to” or “You can’t have it both ways”. Mod at your own peril. Here in Canada 🇨🇦 if you screw with the power train, drivetrain, suspension (the meaningful mods list), frame or safety systems with none OEM parts kiss your warranty hasta la vista, bye, so long. Wrapping can blitz your paint too and void your corrosion protection. I personally think that voiding warranty is fair game for modified cars. If you sit and think about it automotive engineers by and large design a lot of room for abuse and wear and tear considering some owners who don’t mod just plain abuse the crap 💩 out of their cars and they still run, maybe not well 🤣 but they run. To pile on top of that for car manufacturers to anticipate the extremes that some modifications can inflict on a car and cover the cost of repair as if the car were OEM is well living in a fools paradise and laughable 🤣. I am just say’n. Good list 👍👌though by the way for the cake eaters, more or less keep it cosmetic and easily reversible. Kinda boring but safe.
Agreed and well said my man! I've seen it too many times where someone will go HAM with modifying and then try to bring it back to the dealer with a logging list of issued and expect it to be covered
Hey ! great videos One question though. What is your opinion on AOS in super cold temperatures. It reaches -50 (Celsius here) and I’m concerned a warm motor pushing moisture around and then suddenly dropping will freeze that moisturez
If i do a catback exhaust with no tune, will that damage engine in the long run? I wanna keep my 2021 sti completely stock except for catback exhaust. Just gonna do catback, coilovers and a bronze te37 OGs :)
In regards to the exhaust, I've replaced the midpipe with a 200 cell high flow cat...so the car still has one, am I still automatically voided? I also have an upgraded FMIC on the way, will both of these things automatically void my warranty?

I had no idea AOS voided warranty.. the more you know.
just got my self a 2016 Wrx oh boy here we go
Congrats on the new car 🙌🙌🙌
Thank you good sir 🙏
*Me getting ready to purchase a 31 year old Integra:*
Hmm yes very interesting, very informative
Gotta keep that warranty in tact 😅
Have fun with the teggy! Fun cars 🔥
Great video, thanks. You have a new subscriber :) Cheers, Don (Perth W.Australia)
Eyyyy, appreciate the support 🔥🙏
If you buy the vehicle used but you flush the ECU does it give you a time stamp or would it just say that it was flashed at some point so you could do the I bought it used I don’t know what was done to it before comment
I saw that you said that an AOS will void your warranty, I got the IAG street series AOS and I've heard that it wont void the warranty unless it was the the cause of the source of the failure. Is this true?
Yes and no, depends on the dealer. Under SOA it will void potential for warranty claims.
Do you have a video that’s shows what’s you did to the car behind you regarding aesthetics
Tons of them, with installs.on how to do things from injector installs, down pipes, pulling an engine, turbo swap etc 🙏
I noticed you didn’t mention an after market air intake. Does that mean that an Air intake does void the warranty? I was under the impression that it did not.
For the most part yes, most require calibration dude to I.D changes of thr Pipe, relocation of the maf sensor etc.
Hey, I was wondering that putting soundproofing material inside the door panels will void the warranty? Thanks
Not it will not 🙏
@@Smeedia Thanks a lot!
Brand new 2021 WRX owner as of today!!
Congrats on the car! 😁😁😁
ETS states they don’t require a tune for their intake. Theoretically, if I swap back the stock airbox before taking it to the dealer they won’t flag/void my warranty for being modified right?
A tune is highly suggested, you won't benefit at all from using an intake without a tune to go with it. The ECU will send the same amount of fuel and you'll run lean.
so anything you did not say voids it? lets say a bigger turbo or downpipe?
Even though the cars have flash counting abilities the dealer has to send the ecu to Subaru to check to see if the flash was from a accessport or a dealership as the dealerships don’t have the software to access that part of the ecu....... at least that is what a Subaru master tech I used to work with told me
May be dealer dependent, the dealership that I go to has the software to pull ECU data for flashes. Regardless just want people to be aware that is SOA has to do an investigation they can find out 🙏
Smeedia this is true, it probably is dealer dependent... but hell I fully plan on keeping my warranty around lol
Are you able to install a short shift because the stock wrx has to long of gears
The OEM Subaru one will retain your warranty 🤙
Will a cold air intake void Subarus warranty?
Awesome video! Would a boomba bypass valve void any warranties on a WRX? It says it's a direct OEM replacement.
It shludlent but if a dealer is being picky it could raise some problems
@@Smeedia thank you for replying! I have a 2020 WRX and installed that bpv but idk if it's even worth keeping on.
Does not make any difference in performance for the car but that is totally your call 😁
So I’m needing a new transmission, but i have coil overs and different wheels on it from when I bought it, will that void my warranty? Or should I just switch back to stock in the meantime while they do a diagnostic on my Subaru?
It shouldn't create warranty issued unless the car was slammed. What happened with the current trans?
@@Smeedia to borrow from you; "You have to risk it for the biscuit"
😈😈😈😈
Hi, I wanna know what is Beter radiator Ford My sti 2020 cfs or KOYO?
Hey ! great videos
One question though. What is your opinion on AOS in super cold temperatures. It reaches -50 (Celsius here) and I’m concerned a warm motor pushing moisture around and then suddenly dropping will freeze that moisturez
Definitely would get a catch can over an AOS. I woukdent risk having the return line freeze in those Temps 🥶
Could you provide a list of mods for your car as of this video? Especially interested in your wheels and lights
I don't remember everything at this time but the wheels were work emotion D9Rs 18x9.5 +38, the lights were subispeed V1 Euros 🙏
What about a new cold air intake? Does that void the warranty
Yes, a tune is required for that
If i do a catback exhaust with no tune, will that damage engine in the long run? I wanna keep my 2021 sti completely stock except for catback exhaust. Just gonna do catback, coilovers and a bronze te37 OGs :)
Nope 🙏 catback exhausts do not require tunes 😁🔥
Might be a dumb question, but would installing an A/F or Boost gauge void the warranty?
No, that should not
I can finally watch it!
🙏🙏🙏🙏
In regards to the exhaust, I've replaced the midpipe with a 200 cell high flow cat...so the car still has one, am I still automatically voided? I also have an upgraded FMIC on the way, will both of these things automatically void my warranty?
The intercooler yes, it will void it. As for the catalytic converter that qill be at the discretion of your dealership
Would a after market intercooler void my warranty on my 10th gen civic ??
Just to clarify, upgrading to a front mount intercooler will void my warranty right?
Lol yes it will
