It still amazes me how good of a bass you can get for under $300, that thing sounds way better than it has any right to at this price point! Wish this was the case 30 years ago when I was a poor struggling musician migrating from keys to bass.
I must disagree with you on nearly all points Lobster. I own one of those 25th anniversary basses. Firstly, it looks great. It also plays great and sounds great. In fact I was truly surprised how good it sounded out of the box. Of course the pickups hum, they are single coils. Hell, the Lindy Fralin pups I have on my 2014 USA Fender Jazz hum……because they single coil pups. Personally, I was truly surprised at the quality of the bass, and I enjoy playing it quite a bit. Am I going to mod it? Probably. But honestly, I was happier with that bass out of the box more than I was with my Fender when I originally bought it; when I installed the Lindy Fralin pups I got that Jazz to sound the way I wanted it. So sorry, I must respectfully disagree with you.
Spot on. I threw one of these onto an order from Thomann so the shipping wouldn't be so bad on my Sire V5. I half planned on selling the HB, but it surprised me out of the box. After a setup, it sounded better than my Player Series Fender Jazz did out of the box. I put a black pick guard & black knobs on mine. I suppose it could use some shielding in the pu and electronics cavity's, but other than that, I don't think I'll be moding it any further. It sounds and plays great as is.
@@ValerieMais completely agree. I just picked up a Squire 40th anniversary Jazz Bass. Lovely bass but all in all, my 25th Anniversary HB is better made, and imo plays better and sounds better.
@@symbiat0 That black pickguard I used is the one that originally came on my HB JB75-NA. it has an extra hole in it, but it fits fine. Originally I had a black 3 ply Fender pickguard I was going to use, but there was to large a gap between the pickguard & control plate, and I didn't feel like drilling new holes to get it to line up. I Really was not a fan of that Tort looking pickguard that came on the 25th, and was ready to paint it black if I couldn't find anything else that fit.
I got mine a week ago and it's mindboggling good, not only for the price. I ordered a Fender Player Jazz Bass with it because i wanted a Fender and the HB blows it out of the water completly. The HB JB has better finish (Black Paint splashes all over the white Fender JB ), came setup right out of the box (the Fender needed 3 1/2! turns of the trussrod to get the neck in playing condition), comes with a better bridge imo+ stainless steel frets and an absolut gorgeous looking and feeling roasted flamed maple neck. If it was a Fender it would cost 5k+ and wouldnt sound 1600% better.
Got mine a while back a go. Came with faulty wiring and a broken pot. Upgraded the electronics to EMG JVX. And replaced the string button with a 3 string hipshot string retainer. Just added Dogal Hellborg flatwound strings. Adjusting the neck is not easy though.
Dude one of my pots broke when removing the knobs so I could get the plastic off.... I had a spare jazz harness handy so I swapped it, but the quality of pots on this are BAD
I have the same model but from different company brand, same factory. It is Jet jjb 300 and it feel great while playing. It came without any setup but when you fix it it is pleasure to play. I installed original fender HI mass bridge and it fits like original, next in plan is hand made pickups upgrade from Edis (croatia) and flat wound strings for smuther sound. I believe this Jet bass will play my son for 20 years, 100% sure it stay in the family. Higly recomended
That's what I love about your reviews Lobsterman. You wear your heart on your sleeve. Your expressions reveal your feelings even if your words don't exactly. Love Ya Man!!!!! You're the best.
I actually got one of these last week! I split shipping cost consolidating an order with a buddy. I like mine well enough, I think it has a better quality nut and first fret action than some other cheaper basses I've played, but I did find the edge of the pickup very sharp. Sharper than anything else I've owned or played. Even my cheap Peavey Millennium has a factory smoothed edge on the playing side of the neck pickup. Worth noting it's made left handed, which was a strong pull for me (as a lefty) since some of their other premium type stuff isn't always equal opportunity.
25th anniversary lineup is surely great, although it would have made more sense if the color finish was metallic silver instead of that bronze-ish color.

I have one and I love it. I've been playing a lot with this bass and a lot of my more expensive instruments have been staying at home. And the flamed neck on mine looks amazing.
Enjoyed the playing and your initial thoughts! Though thinking that spending a little bit extra gets you a Sire V3, which sounds much more appealing to me. (Though you’d also have to buy the case and lanyard.)
Finally escaped a LE Lobster video without having to immediately go to Thomann and buy a new bass. But did want this bass to be more impressive. Thanks man.
Esthetically I like that over the Squireversary gold. But I was looking for a review of the active humbucking anniversary edition of that other model. But this one is one nice bass too Imunna consider. 🎉
I got a hb jb 62cc is decota red and I just did a basic setup on it and it plays great and it only cost me 200 bucks with shipping included and that is shipping from germany to texas. I love the bass and I highly recommend buying one and checking it out for yourself !!
Hi Lobster! Watched tons of your work, and this was the first time that I felt you wanted everything but create this video. Which of course is absolutely ok, just was unusual from your well-balanced and fair comments. Contrary to the comparison video with the MV4JB vs Squier JB where HB was held in high regard, here there's a sneaky comment everywhere that it's just a Harley Benton. I'm really curious for your in-depth review to see what caused your skepticizm for this bass as it sounded decent to me. Maybe the sympathy towards HB was in the mighty beard? :O Anyways, keep up the good work! :)
I have two Harley Benton, I actually bought them really cheap, they sound really nice, the only problem I see with them is that they don't age well, after a few years the frets and hardware started to get really rusty
Holy shit brother..no beard!😂 Freaked me out at first. So the two Benton's I got from you sound amazing..They are getting a lot of playing time with the amount of shows we have...(25 shows in May alone)
I bought one and send it back. For me the JJ 45O is the better one, lighter and have s battery door to upgrade easily with EMG for example. This one looks great, ,but the JJ 45O is more comfortable to play and the neck looks awesome and is not neck heavy. Although the Sire V3P for a little bit more money is way better feel and sound experience than the JB 25th.
I hear some players don't care for the Roswell J-pickups,......the stock Roswells sound killer as opposed to many basses of this price point,..and especially the alnico 5 pickups,...not cheap ceramic import j-pickups... If you install a quality wiring harness and a well-done shielding job,.......then you're off to the races. I love the color,...I still miss the burgundy mist color.
I like lobster with olive oil and garlic, but I would like a lobster review of the Cort A4 Ultra Ash. Please dear Lobster change your Lobster Claw and show us your playing skills on the Cort A4 Ultra Ash.
Hi Mr lobster. I found your videos very useful and informative. I'm planning to get a new bass since my squire jbass has twisted neck and it's annoying to play. Anyway which bass would you recommend- the one from the video or Harley Benton Enhanced MJ-4EB? Thanks

€300 for this vs €160 for a JB-62cc. €500 for the Enhanced 25th vs €300 for the closest specced MP-4. That's a pretty decent modding budget. If you don't care about the stainless steel frets or the finish these are kind of a hard sell for me

Love your reviews but having watched dozens of yours I got the feeling you were not in a good mood when you did this one. Also, not a mention of what it sounds like!
RIGHT?! I can't believe that thing is nearly $500. I buy all my Harley Bentons and have no affiliation with Thomann... and I have absolutely no desire to drop that kind of dough on that bass.
Wait, there's a P-25th? I thought they just did this JB and the Enhanced, which does have a P pickup and is a bass but that's were the similarities with traditional P end.
