That pizza needs a little more cooking time
I worked in a gourmet pizza shop , and yours looks very similar , we would just brush some olive oil around the edge of the crust and actually across the hole base befor putting on the rest of the toppings ,and it would brown the crust as well that way ! Nice job , I'm a big fan of wood fired pizza ovens as well , but it's hard to carry one camping !
Thanks for watching. This worked pretty well.
Looks great but maybe bit more heat to brown up the crust and base. Coating with olive oil helps achieve browning too.
Cheers from Australia and thanks for the vid.
...butter on the crust was my thought too...a little spray butter... as always, a pleasure to watch you cook...
I would have gone further with baking and maybe even brushed the crust with butter. But it looks good. I'm going to try it.
I just like you a lot because you cook with cast iron. There is a connection old cast iron with certain type of people that is so homy, so down to earth, so warm and friendly!
I don't know about you but I like pizza thin and crunchy. If you want that result... I think you could bake the crust first for a few minutes, then when it is half done you can add the sauce and toppings, but you might not like the noise when biting it!!! Thank you for sharing. That's what I used to do when I made pizza for my niece. They recommended to bake the crust first for sometime then add the the toppings...it came out the way I wanted...really crunchy.
Happy Thanksgiving!
That dough looks great! I put all frozen/homemade pizzas in my 12" Lodge Skillet, the crust comes out perfect!
Looking forward to trying this next trip.
Good video..looks great overall. I have cooked mine this way for about 2 more minutes longer and brushed some olive oil around the crust half way though and then hit it with some fresh Parmesan cheese and basil. Came out really good as well.
Thanks for sharing! Your vids are always a real hoot! Have a good one!
Awesome looking pizza.
I make my pizzas in black frying pan also makes best crus,t I have never tried outside, I prebake for 15 min. to insure golden brown crust and put corn meal on btm b4 dough
George Ellwanger, definitely corn meal. Pizza shops use it.
That looks great and so easy to make too! Great video!
I need that skillet collection nice.
I got interested in cast iron cooking recently along with getting back into camping. Your videos are awesome my friend. I really enjoy them and sure you put forth the effort. Thanks a million!
Love the music! Good looking pizza too! Cheers
Now I know how do the crust and dumplings thanks and also biscuits. You rock.
That looks so very good. You are way talented. Wish I lived near you. Take care.
Gotta try it !
Great what are you cooking on? Look yummy 🤤
Dude, I cannot wait to start doing this when I camp. Just bought my first cast iron pan
Cast iron cooking is great... it's a whole new level when you get into dutch oven cooking. I've made lasagna and bought a second one for deserts. I cooked my first peach cobbler yesterday... it was delicious. Check out Cowboy Kent Rollins channel.
How are you liking it,and have you added anymore!!!??
Thanks for sharing! I prefer hearing the peaceful sounds of you cooking and talking rather than the music. Just a suggestion. Can’t wait to see what you make next. :)
Your preference to hear straight up narration is in the minority. Thanks for watching.
Definitely brush crust with butter that looks awesome
10 more minutes then yoll get best crust
As a Yank that’s been within an hour drive of NYC most of my life, I was skeptical about a watching a southern boy make a pizza, but you got the beating and folding the dough! Also, don’t tell my friends and family, I thumbed up a “deep dish” video... they ship me off to Chicago so fast, my head will spin!
looks great! Yummy! Pizza is great camping food. I will have to buy this cast iron pan urgently!
I love pizza. You rock if you can make fresh pizza in a cast iron skillet!!! The pizza looked delicious. 😀
Beautiful cooked
Very cool. Looks tasty. Nicely done!
You can get that tool at Walmart in Bellingham Mass.
You may have said and I may have missed it, but how long did you bake it???
Excellent!! Thanks
Backwoods, try brushing some butter on the crust, to brown it, and give it some crunch.
I did, it got edited out. It could have used a few more coals on the bottom. This was the first time I did it with the Lodge lid stand., so I was afraid of burning it. When you do it, use 5 additional coals on the bottom. Thanks for watching.
Backwoods Gourmet Channel Dam it... I do it with a very old, well seasoned pizza stone, in a smoking hot grill, but that’s our Yankee thin pizza that cooks hot and fast. If I do it this way, I’m going to have to struggle with balancing the heat, so the inside cooks, without burning the outside. This is much easier in an oven, after a few practice runs, but outside with coals... that’s a whole different story! Hahahaha, I guess that’s why I’m not the backwoods!
Looks pretty good 👍. I’ll put this on my list to try, thanks for the videos...
Damn! That looks good!
why am I watching this when I am on a liquid/puree diet? hahaha yeah I DO want some. looks great TFS!
Have you done no-knead bread in a dutch oven? I do a cast iron dutch oven in a conventional oven and I think the baking process would lend itself to charcoal. Requires a long time in a very hot (525) oven covered (45 min.) followed by the same temp for a shorter time uncovered. Tell me what you think it takes to get to 500-525 in a dutch oven with charcoal and I will try it out.
We did it in the DO a while back. Check out the channel page in the popular uploads playlist. 15 minutes with natural coals.
Thank you. Will check it out.
Is the table where you do your cooking at a piece of sheet metal or stainless steel?
Great video, making the dough takes the longest for me and have had better results with Publix in store pizza dough. It has a short lifespan you have to use it or freeze it within a couple of days.
Loving the 70s music.
Beautiful job, thank you for sharing.
Wow that pizza actually looked delicious 😋
Looking Good Backwoods!!
Do you cook it in part 2?

Nice!!
Making a pizza would be way down on my list of meals I would want to make outdoors if I were camping. Having said that, well done, sir.
Love the garlic!!
What size pan did you use for this...?
And we Now have The CHAMPION !
I just got a cheaper Dutch oven I'd like to try cooking some stuff you make
What kind of yeast do you use? I always have trouble with my yeast.
Can you do a video on chili?
instead of sugar, use honey for the yeast. Great flavor!
Yup that's my bit
Thank looks delicious! Big like!😋
Was that a White Thunder Barbecue remix?... if so nice job you pulled it off 👍
The pizza was looking nice, but you should have taken the skillet off the fire and left the coals on top so it could have browned more. I have one of the lid holder's which I ordered when I ordered my dutch ovens to keep the dirt out of the food. It is a necessary tool when cooking outside. You need the tool to lift the lid on the dutch oven and you probably have one of those so you don't ruin your lid holder.
That was awesome
Pizza! PIZZA! P I Z Z A ! Who doesn't LOVE pizza? One of my favorite foods. Looks good, 'Wood!
I WANNA BE A BACKWOODS GOURMET THAT LOOKS GOOOOOD
Did you make the iron table?
Great video. Keep it up
Your First!
Looks good! Can you deliver in 30 minutes or less?
At 12:55 of the video you have the lid resting on something that looks to be almost 15" tall. What is that Item?
That was the Campmaid dutch oven lid lifer/stand. Thanks for watching.
Well done, brother. Love the video!
yeah
I never would have guessed the pizza making and cooking music. Kept waiting for Pussy Galore to come out and poison James Bond. Thanks for another great video. Bought my first Dutch oven at a flea market last week and as you advised, biscuits first then maybe this pizza.
This might be popular with a younger croud. Stepped it up a little for them. We only have limited tunes to use without copyright problems with RUclips.. Go for it with the new oven! Thanks for watching.
Ill have to try it but im a bit skeptical. it doenst look like the pizza dough im use to. i guess i like a chewwwier, and tanner bread on my pizza. Perhaps adding olive oil and kneading it more could help
I did add a caption during the crust prep that said "if you like your crust chewy, only use 3 tbs oil". That is what makes the difference between tender and chewy. We are not using a pizza oven here at 550 degrees, but it is still delicious for cooked outdoors. Otherwise, go order from Domino's for the local pizzeria.
Can I use a cast iron pizza pan
awesome post!!!
Would be nice if you provided the receipt!!!!!
You mentioned that the pizza doesn't like you much - you should try a Sourdough pizza base - especially a naturally fermented sourdough, works well for those that have a gluten intolerance
That pizza looks fantastic . Kids are hard to please, so pizza while camping is a plus. Been watching a lot of your vids the last few days . Gotta ask what type of table are you cooking on is It just a stainless steel table or a special type for grilling ?
I don't eat pizza a lot either but this looks great !
A+ on the pizza! You even made the dough! Looked great as always!
Thanks for the nice comments Jerry.
Thanks for holding it up to the camera, I nearly bit the screen! 😜😂
I like it
I did. How much sugar and water with the yeast?
A little and a little. Search "how to proof yeast" for more detailed instructions. We don't use too many measuring devices or by the book recipes around here.
Publix already made dough is good
Great now I need to go camping lol
Do a deep dish pizza for us🍕
Wow
only people that have to bring a huge RV with satelite tv and a dvd player order domino's to a campsite haha!
I don’t understand why you use charcoal over heat beads ? In Australia it is much cheaper to use heat beads. I only use charcoal for the smoke on a bbq
...never heard of heat beads myself. Charcoal is in abundance here in the USA
👍🏼up #117.... YUMMM and heck yeah I want some...😎 keep those vids rolling Brother...
Now that’s s good looking pizza! Gotta try that! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 🤤 😋😋
cast iron pizza outdoors should be on an open fire, from the embers, to get the crust completely done...but looks good anyway...thanks. 👍👍
If the pepperoni gets to you try the sandwich pepperoni works for me.
What is the recipe for the Pizza dough
I gave it to you in the video. Watch again, only 5 ingredients. Thanks for watching.
Should call it the Lodge Gourmet Channel. Good information though.
We have information on Field Company, old antique stuff also. Lodge is the most readily available and affordable cast iron for the masses, and it's made int the USA.
i think the consensus is clear. looks great but not quite done. maybe bake the dough a bit before adding toppings.
great looking pie nonetheless.
Subscribed lol thanks
Welcome. Be sure to check out our channel page for over 250 more videos. Thanks for watching.
Oh and btw.. Green olives along with the other toppings is exactly how I like my pizza. Please save me a piece
Ok
That smells guud
Good looking pie.
I would have brushed the whole inside of the pan with oil and on the crust before baking, it would add to the browning factor... I think lol I do this when I do it in the oven so... :o)
🔥🔥🔥
