Grand Kingdom is a real hidden gem, great little game. RPGs of this scale/budget are rarely this good, I was genuinely surprised when I played it on Vita last year.
Oh boy! I really enjoyed this game! As for online play, you're really not missing out. There was no Player vs Player. It was Player vs Bots. War Contracts - - - These happened daily. Essentially, you send out teams as bots, and if you go out yourself, you fight bot teams, and spend most of your time in screen transitions. It had a fun energy, but I always felt like I had no influence on whether my nation won or lost. Barracks - - - Felt useless. You just spend your own money to "Research" things to help your nation out. Example: 15% extra defense, faster catapults in battle etc. It was just to help your nation win at War Contracts. Missions - - - These were not fun. You competed against ghosts to solve the same objections you can do offline, however, the ghosts were always perfect at it, so (at least for me) I always lost. Daily Rewards - - - This WAS actually useful. It just gave you random rewards everyday with a 28 day chart, and the longer your log-in streak, the better the rewards, you'd start getting tomes and scrolls. I think it reset after 28 days though. I think you get a 5 day chart for offline though, is that still there? Exclusive Item - - - I read that if rated the highest for your nation during a war period (roughly 24 hours), then you'd get an exclusive sword variant that had 2 extra damage over the corresponding one in-game. I never got the highest place for my nation, so I have no idea. That, and you used to be able to purchase Tomes and Scrolls... Not sure if that's still there, you CAN however still farm them in game, but it's a pain, and it's really not necessary to have characters with S Rank stats offline. I hope that answers everything anyone wants to know about the online services.
@@serahtilil1426 It's completely unnecessary, and adds very little to the single player campaign (extra exp and money by a small amount, mostly). I don't know what you mean when you wrote "useless", but it was mostly self-contained to the multiplayer aspects.
It is now. I dropped it the moment I found out plat was unachievable due to servers getting shut down. How come they won't patch this so all trophies can be achievable offline!? >:/
I hate that some games you can't play a large chunk of because it once required some kind of supported server or network. When they close servers for games they should always like just put whatever that extra content was on some offline mode in some way
The one thing it really misses now that the servers shut down is a replayable campaign. If it had something like new game+ that would've been great, but the post campaign content was rather lacking besides war and single missions. Hell, I would've paid for a dlc with just extra story missions as I really enjoyed them. Still kinda sad how much time I spent building an S tier valkyrie only for the servers to shut down
I stumbled across my PS4 copy of this that I got on launch and is still wrapped cause I never got around to playing it either. I’m glad I stumbled on this video too.
If you became a hero, the best character on the team will have a weapon named after you and sometimes you can come across someone with your named weapon
I've had this game since February of 2018 as a PS Plus freebie and just started it today. I'm regretting waiting so long as it feels like I'm missing out on a lot of features.
I played it while it was online. You can sum it up as building a team to fight other teams of players in large maps. They kept the cost low by making the other teams a.i. controlled, so you just fought a comp controlling a player built squad. The true hit to functionality comes with the stores it included, pvp gave you currency that you could use to trade for the best weapons ingame.
Funny you mentioned Vanillaware, considering this game is a spiritual successor to the PSP game, Grand Knights History, which Vanillaware did the art style for.
I wont call it ''spiritual succesor'' more like a copy paste, since they have literally the same game mechanics...thouhg i still hold GKH close to my heart as a better game.
This has been on my backlog too and while I’m sad I won’t be getting 100% of the experience, I think I’ll give it a try tonight thanks to your video. Also, the chess moves part reminds me of Hitman Go and Lara Croft Go.
I really hope they bring it back, anything, remaster, sequel, just whatever, it was surprisingly good and fun, online made it fun too and I'm sad I didn't play as often as I should have. Sadly I started this game playing mostly offline, definitely holds together. They need to add it to steam and let us do a private server or something Fiel kingdom 100%
You get great gold quantity when you complete a war contract and you can see the ruler of a kingdom, they give you items each time you give they your war report, i can't finish my contract :(
I definitely still find this game fun! Unfortunately it's not cross-buy on Vita/PS4, so you need to choose one. I chose Vita, and am content that I did so because the game's scope fits the Vita and portable play quite well. Both versions are a bit pricey at $30 regular price, but often go on sale for $12... at least the PS4 version still does. Sony isn't really putting any sale-prices on Vita games lately, last $12 sale on the Vita version was back in January, and PS4 version has been on sale 3 times since then...
Same thing happened with me. I intended to play it but shiny came out around the same time and I focused on that one. I've only put about 20 minutes into since it came out. I actually gonna jump into now
I'm stilll playing it! The online aspect may be permanently offline but the rest of the game is still playable and it is officially my guilty pleasure game!
I was in a very similar circumstance, but I did toy with the online stuff a very, very mild amount. Wish I had time for more at the time, but a lot of the online player teams were bots anyway. It just wasn't the sort of thing that live players were doing against each other full time. I'll keep making time for Grand Kingdom offline here and there because it's good stuff, definitely a hidden gem sort.
Can you still gain reputation with the factions since the shitdown?like yeah wars are knline only but regular quests used to level them too and i want to unlock the shops. I still earn royals whoch is what makes me curioud
There is a prequel called grand knights history, its on the psp but u can find emulators on pc. There is a english patch for it, n its developed by vanillaware
Sorry, its too late to play it properly, I used to play it when it was online and I had way more fun with it online than i did offline, you can have a set of troops automatically going out and come back in up to 5 real life days to war to get items and level up without me actually being online to play, and or you can set them to go out off to war, while you have one team standing by to play the Quest Campain's which when your troops came back from war they would get items level up and it gave you more to do with less time, now to level up characters you have to do it manually each team yourself, not worth the grind to be honest. for single player its just below average game with online mode and functions its above average game. Your better off playing sword art online Alicization lycoris grind than to grind levels for all your characters in grand kingdom. Lets not forget you can no longer get rare items and equips anymore thanks to no more offline, the data is there in the game disk but no access to it, they should of at least updated Grand Kingdom to allow you to buy the rare items for a fee like a network shop so you don't miss out on the gear and or quests that only available online.
I still have this game for my Vita i know it was way better with online features, but i love to have it together with the Vanillaware trilogy on Vita since they look similar
It's my main gripe with some of vanillawares games; they should just go full odin sphere with all their games and make full packed single player experiences than adding multiplayer components to them, or at least not locking content behind. It hurts the experience
I never finished the game... i drop it at lv 50... mmm about 2 years ago because i got bored of lv up . Now i tried to retake it but i could access online war and shops so i stoped again jaja. Maybe i should have not gone 2 girls team... since game seems to balance almost like final fantasy war of leons... and you got to abuse traps.
This game was great, however the biggest flaw was the balancing. The online gameplay was a nation vs nation, allowing for faster better upgrades but importantly if your team played well you could earn the hero weapons which had the highest stats. The paladin was the worst offender of balancing, as Overspin skill was overpowered. Everything devolved to a Disgaea like keep throwing your character to the middle of the fight and use Overspin to kill everything. Paladin made all other teams obsolete, all the other classes were fine. I kinda wish they banned Paladins, having a powerful AoE skill plus one of the highest initiatives was ridiculous.
Grand kingdom is alright but still want of problems: Spamming the stupid obstacles on the map where you have to waste 20% health to get past them or 3 movement turns. Those plant enemies are op an bs, too much atk and those vine snare traps. Why can't I pause the game half way and come back tomorrow. Whys some of the battle UI and skills stuff confusing. Etc
I'm so pissed I bought this. Why sell a game when it's missing half the fucking features that could be included on offline are stuck behind online play that isn't even fucking available. I don't even wanna play past the 1st mission now.
I'm extremely disappointed I just started playing this game again my playstation was stolen 3 years ago And I just couldn't justify buying a new one but I finally saved up and went back to play it and there's no online

In a similar position to you today. Just started playing and I'm gutted to see all of the war content I missed out on!
I'm glad to see this game getting more attention. I miss the online content :( but the game is definitely worth playing still ^_^
