Great video busting the myth that Sweden is hilariously expensive. Well done, Sophie! I wonder whether your guesthouse will be available for short-term visitors next summer. Looking forward to some autumn videos showing the foliage in their brightest colours!
@@othmarzimmermann5924 Hej, thank you ! 🙏🏻 agreed, before I started to look into it I also thought it’d be wayyy too expensive 😅 Regarding the guest house - not sure yet tbh if it’ll be done by summer. Getting an examiner in to check what needs to be done and then depending on this I can see how long it’ll take 🙈
Thank you for reveling your costs.. and there is a reason for that low price.. you gonna find out! In anyway.. 50 % of your electricity bill is for December, January and February, save up for that! But firewood then.. its the same price for KW, if you buy good firewood.. and you should never buy bad firewood! Ask your chimeny sweper for any advice and the condition of your fireplace and chimney! Check your waters non freezing ability.. today its often an electric heating cable that need to be turned on/pluged in when temperatures reach zero Celsius! The comunal pipes dont freeze.. but those on your property our down under your house! In your guest house.. buy a dehumidizer, then you can lower the temperature there and dont get damage don by damp! 10 degres and 40-50 humidity is a recomendation.. for such non used areas! I saw a tarmak road, thats great.. probably your comunity or regional road organisation going to plow the snow.. but not your private drive way.. buy a snow showel! And there is often a fee for private house owners?? Soo.. one need a sturdy car, and studed winter tires to get anywhere! One dont need a Jeep or four wheel drive! And then.. long Johns and slippers is cheap and save a lot on the electricity bill.. double blankets to! A housecoat.. (Hausmantel?) in the morning befor you fire up your fireplace. is nothing but common sens!
In the big city regions, houses can be very expensive, but in the country side, especially in areas where there aren't a lot of jobs, and not just in northern Sweden. If you have some type of online job, or maybe you are a writer, artist or something like that, then it can be a very good idea to buy a house in one of those locations.
it depends a lot where you are looking and what standard you want. If you want a house in Lidingö a suburb to Stockholm the prices for a house will be 1.2 million for a small basic house to 6.5 million euro if you want a realy nice house.
I live in a smaller city in sweden prices on houses in the city is 250 000 euro-1 million euro and that is not even close to the more expensive citys. If you live 40-50 km outside the city you could prob go down to 100 000 euro for an old house. (summer house can be cheaper, with no water electric or septic)
The cost to connect fiber is about 20 000 SEK if there are already fiber pretty much direct outside your property so they just need to connect it to your house. If it is further away it can be much more expensive, but 4G/5G solutions work decently well in almost all of Sweden.
Thank you! Is there a way to make sure that there is no water damage? I feel like this is one of the most common things that could eventually be there.
Hey Sofie, thanks for the great and very helpful video! It will be amazing if you could share and other details as food and fuel expenses. Also what about the buying process - how does it goes? Or what is the process of getting temporary ID so you will be able to buy a house? And lastly, can we work with our foreign jobs when moving from one Eu country to another (like Sweden)? Thank you in advance for your response 🙏☺️🤍
Thanks for your update and interesting information on owning a house in Sweden! Do you have a daily mail service? Your smile, chuckle and enthusiasm is very contagious, wish you the best as you dream and then make the dream come true! ~ S. Carolina - USA
Nobody in Sweden has daily mail service anymore, because most people get their invoices and pay all the monthly costs online. I honestly don't remember when I received a private letter or postcard but it was many years ago. I got a sticker at my mailbox saying that I don't want to get any advertising leaflets. When I receive a parcel they put it sometimes in the mailbox when it's a smaller package leave it on the porch or I have to collect it at a service point. There are some people (mainly older) who still get some appointments for example health checks by mail.
@@dixiewishbone5582 Hej thank you so much for your kind words 🥰 we don’t have daily mail services, but it gets delivered 3 days per week. And parcels are either home delivery, or you can go pick it up at certain pick up points :)
Hallo liebe Sophie, sag wie machst du das denn mit deinem Visa? Wenn du jetzt tatsächlich dort leben möchtest? Wie läuft das? Wäre super nett, hier ein bißchen Einblick zu haben, danke❤
Are you going to install your own solar panels or are you going to build 🔨 your own solar panels and install them? That would make some interesting videos. Who knows? Maybe there’s a government program that will help you with a purchase and professional installation. They have such programs in the States but I live in a condo with bylaws. Beware of scammers as you figure it out.
In Sweden you have to have professionals to install solar. its Illegal to install it yourself. Then no insurance will cover it. Yes there are goverment grants that cover some parts still. But the right wing goverment is starting to cut incentive from 2026. Then in Sweden there will be no sun from Mid november to february so you will not get almost no electricity from solar. (even if the sun techicaly is up a couple of hours its very low and often clouds.) Then you will get lots of electricity from May to early september.
@@KristoferOlsson@KristoferOlsson, it could be that way in the States, too. I have never looked into it that thoroughly. I live in a condo, and the condo process involves a lot of red tape. Over here, they advertised it as free solar, but I needed clarification on what they meant by that. Was it in time that it would pay for itself? Was it a free government program? Like the lady told the window replacement company when they called to find out why no payment had yet been received. She said the salesman told her when she bought them "that these windows will pay for themselves." It's a joke, but kind of not.
@@KristoferOlsson No Sun in Winter; I completely forgot about that. That seriously slows down getting your money back out of a solar product. I bet solar will be slow to catch on in that part of the world.
Maybe you can get fibre if you live in the centre of a town for 20 000 kronor however I doubt it, the cheapest I have heard was 25 000 and in my town, they want to charge me 35 000 if I said yes when they contacted me if I want it now it's 38 000, NO THANK YOU. I have mobile internet and that works great for me.
If you dont have fiber close to your house it can be even more expensive then that. I have heared quotes above 100 000 sek to dig fiber to a summer house.
