And there's me thinking that it was a major job to cut a hole into the dashboard and yada yada yada but this guy just went at it with a stanley knife and some tape.
I don’t have this car but I did this similar kind of mod in my f30. I wanted the drivers glove box or cubby hole. The same one you probably have in your f80 under the light switch. I cut it in with a blade the same way. Nice job.
Great tutorial, I am going to give a go myself but I need your assistance with regards the colour of the clock housing. My dash is the same colour as yours but am struggling to match the colour of the housing. The interior code of my Cayman is AG, which I thought stood for Agate grey. So I ordered an agate grey housing which turned out to be the wrong colour. If possible can you please forward me the part number of the housing? Thanks in advance
great vid and superb job, i want to swap the dial colour on my chrono so will use your instructions to remove radio and vents. hopefully wont be too hard
Great how to I have been interested in doing the same alteration to my 981 Boxster, one question, have you added plug and play to the radio and if so what version level 3.1 or another version? Thanks....
Hello Tomy, congratulations on the excellent work you have done, I wanted to ask you about the connection of the cables from the clock to the radio, in the video I saw that you explained that the color brown and white is related only to brown and that the color red and orange with red, but can you tell me about the other two with which colors you have connected? because in the video I can not see it, thank you very much and wish you success in other projects.
Thank u soo much bro, I did the same procedure for the porsche panamera, and the chrono clock worked, but then the camera did not work and the radio did not stop! why can this happen ..!?😊
I would like to use this template. I was wondering if you could trace it out on a piece of paper, scan it to PDF, then send it to me? That would be awesome! Let me know and I can send you my email. Thanks, George.
Thanks for the video Tommy. I have a cayman with SC and I need to remove the clock to fix the broken clock hands. Do you think I can remove the clock by just removing the vents without taking out the pcm? Can I access the clock screw through the vent openings? Thanks
Nice job but did you get the rev-matching coded in the end ? When I ordered my 981, the only reason for me to get the SC package were the dynamic driveline mounts, the sport plus mode and the rev-matching feature that also came with it.
What about when he pulled out the second vent and some grommet piece fell back into the dash! You can see there's some grey piece on the vent closest to the camera in the far back!
Thanks. And no. Decided it’s not necessary. I kind of prefer not having it now. On the street I rev match quite okay. At the track it’s even easier since when you brake hard your brake goes in deep and levels with the throttle.
Warranty successfully voided ;) Is there a good place behind those side panels of the centre console to hide a GPS tracker? It could be too obvious though...
thank you for the very informative video :) Quick question, if I have a cdr31 car radio (no PCM) are the same cables at the back? It's for a 991 GT3 RS
Fascinated to see how the coding for the Sport Chrono functions is done. Is it possible to enable the Sport Chrono gear shift assist and g-force displays as well as the rev matching functionality that you mention? Very useful video, thanks.
@Tommy L Garage I assume that you can't start and stop the stopwatch as it is. I have asked 2 official Porsche dealers (Australia) whether it is possible to retrofit/enable the Sport Chrono functionality and displays (such as gear shift assist) on my 981. I was advised that it was possible for the previous generation 987 but to do so on the 981 requires a code that is tied to the VIN and only available from Porsche. Hence not possible. There have been some posts on Porsche forums about this. Owners of 981 GT4s in USA have reported Porsche dealers enabling Chrono displays via PIWIS. Other non-official advice on forums is that it is a setting in the Instrument code that simply confirms SC capability. One way or another it looks like you have to be handy with PIWIS. Thanks again for your videos and good luck with the coding.
Dealer wont do it on 981 ad 991 without an activation code but there's an instructions on planet-9 to enable sport plus using PIWIS2 or 3 full using engineering mode(so it wont require enabling code) but its in German :)
Hey Tommy,...So, Im shopping for a 981 Boxster,....and I really want the Sports Chrono Pack. So, I found one that has a ton of options,...but no Sports Chrono. I see that you added the "Sports Chrono" to your Porsche, that said, you're proof that Sports Chrono can be added post production. However, what I'd like to know is, after adding Sports Chrono,...can one also add the additional Center Console buttons and gain additional functions of the Sports Chrono Package? Fyi,...I'm looking at a fairly loaded 981. The miles are high at 64k,...but it appears to be in nice condition based on the pics. Thank man... JMD

Great video. The 718 chrono clock fits to 981? And the 991 chrono clock fits 981? Because i found a cheap chrono for 991 but im not sure if works in my 981.
Inspired from your video so my parts are on the way ;) By the way, have you been able to code it and let the red hand in the dial stop and go with stalk switch?
