Divulging the necessary haziness of cognitive images was such fun -- no one could refute its verity! Steven Pinker, Alain de Botton, and Esther Perel are three clever thinkers, each of whom have yet to put a significant foot wrong in their respective careers. This is an exciting new channel.

It’s worth pointing out that some people have aphantasia. They can recognize images but not call them up. That, in turn, is something I find hard to imagine.
I wonder about the representation of depth. The reciprocal of depth is more natural than straight depth. It corresponds directly to the amount of parallax, such as in stereopsis or perpendicular movement. It also linearizes slopes in the projection. Your GPU does this. Straight depth seems to be derived in a subsequent step, most accurately for moderate parallax values.

This has always been one area of which I have been the most fascinated. It is such a complicated inner working of our brain, yet the one that we get a front row seat view port into. I find it near impossible to describe in human words the way I see an image in my mind. Sometimes I could describe some AS images (ie. I could overlay an image of a candle on a piece of white paper and it looks like a candle somewhere between my mind and the paper), whereas others are a more abstract and like a direct understanding of the scene or image without any actual image on the minds eye or picture screen.
Sometimes I try to move/transition the idea of the image across into an actual image in my minds eye but it's not easy to do. It's as if they emerge in separate places in my visual centers where one switches off and then the other on. This happens quite quickly though so it's difficult to look at your own thought process when you are part of the process.

3:37 you can’t because most people have seen a tiger image more than once and the patterns are like fingerprints. It’s a little like trying to recapture the details of a vivid dream when you’re awake, although that is possible to be exact.
