John's voice and acting is just brilliant. His voice filled with tenderness and intimacy, and yet at the same time mystery. This video honestly made me super comfortable because of how calming and soothing his voice is. And I love how this Christine didn't just stare blankly at Erik, and instead paid attention but still looked like she was being seduced. Overall a brilliant video and song, I'm in love with this.

JOJ was recovering from an illness in this show and yet he gave a flawless performance. The biggest injustice in theatre's history what they did to him. He should have been the 25th concert phantom. I really like his impression and dynamics. Like at 0:54. "Turn your face away from the garish light of day. Turn your thoughts away from cold, unfeeling light." He sings one verse, then the next quieter so it's a smoother transition to the higher notes. I just noticed that and now I can't get over how good it sounds.

BRAVO to that...!!! Being a singer myself blessed by the lord above's gift he gave me. One has to appreciate ALL of the different renditions each of these men brought to the phantom character. Ramin for example not only sung the part beautifully but also acted the part brilliantly. Where as John Owen-Jones had the best ability out of all the phantoms of reaching and sustaining the high notes. After seeing this musical live 3 times in a row now. The very first time with Crawford and Sarah in there respective roles. But i can honestly say that "chemistry wise" Ramin and Sierra were THE BEST in my humble opinion. And rightfully so because they also performed together in Les Miserables.

absolutely agree! JOJ puts all the disperation and the anger of the darkness in this feeling of violent love but he knows how to approach Christine so that his singing is like a mermaid singing to her.. He is an actor in the acting, simply PERFECT.

Erin F Right? I feel the same! Christine had her reasons for choosing Raoul, but I think he was a random rich piece of 💩. I'm sorry to say this, but I've met many guys like him. Erik, on the other hand, was a genius who loved her deeply. In spite of his madness, I would have stayed by his side. If he had felt loved, he'd have changed. That's just my opinion, but, seriously, he deserved to feel loved.

I totally agree! I saw a screening of the 25th anniversary performance at my local movie theater and while I enjoyed it and thought Ramin was ok, I was very disappointed that JOJ was not the Phantom because that would have elevated my experience from pretty good to AWESOME. Seriously, JOJ makes me Phangasm. His voice is superb and hauntingly beautiful and dammit why wasn't he cast? Him singing after the performance was one of the highlights of the 25th anniversary for me.

I agree. In addition to he brilliant voice, John is so aware of what he's doing at every moment. Even the weird arm across the chest/neck moment seems more natural with his acting. One of my favorite things I've seen any Phantom do that he pulls off so believably here is in not letting her actually touch the mask. She stays in the dream until she sees the mirror bride.

I've never felt MotN was Ramin's strongest song, but I love both of them, just in different ways. (Hm, that sounded a bit Christine-ish...) John takes me to some higher level of reality, and Ramin seduces me. John just has a much more elegant, lyrical quality to his voice that suits this song perfectly. Don't know if anyone will ever be able to replace his version in my heart, but I loved Ramin in the 25th anniversary show. They are both talented, talented men.

How very epic we got a good video recording of them both (I still wish we got an official video recording though). If people don’t know, Gina wasn’t John Owen Jones’s regular Christine. She already left the cast a few months prior (same time JOJ replaced the Phantom then David Shannon). For some reason all the Christines for this performance weren’t available, so they got Gina to cover for the role. She and JOJ had only performed together in Les Mis before this.

I wish I could fly to West End and watch him perform live. He's so amazing in the role, he has the voice and the acting.
Ramin is also a good Phantom but his voice does not fit in the role, he is still amazing at singing.
Another Phantom that i like a lot is James Barbour he has an amazing voice and good acting.
But no one can beat John performing The Music Of The Night.

I shall always love Michael Crawford as my favorite Phantom due to the eerie yet beautiful quality of his voice. HOWEVER, John Owen-Jones has Michael beat overall with a gorgeous powerful voice coupled with such superb acting so that every gesture and movement just accentuates every word of this song. @Elizabeth111Music That's what I love about John's Phantom. His control is amazing. Ramin is by far too straight with Christine, in my opinion. I don't see his MoTN as anything romantic or intimate. If anything, I get the feeling that he's just desperate for sex or something (basing this on watching Ramin several times). John makes the song a mix of seduction, a lullaby and a lecture about music. Also, believe me, if you seen John live your pants will mysteriously disappear.
