When a customer tells me to do it for cheaper I say if I came to your door and asked you for money would you give me some? They say what do you mean? I say well your asking me to give you money. I cant do a $200 job for $150. Thats like me pulling $50 out of my pocket and giving it to you for nothing. I cant do it.

Keith, I enjoy your videos and I have to tell you ,customers are customers everywhere. I own a hair salon for about 10 years, and I firmly believe that what customers can or cannot afford is none of my business. I tell them my prices, and that's it. All customers want something for nothing. Not everyone is going to like our prices, and that's ok. You don't need to like, ,you need to pay. Also never judge anyone by their house ,car, or any material thing...that means nothing. I've had customers dressed like homeless people show up to $300 hair appointments and heavily tip after that, and I've had women with LV purses frown upon a $60 haircut.

Hey Keith. I’ve watched probably all your videos!!! Thanks for being transparent with your business and pricing. I’m in Michigan also and have had a side business trimming shrubs and hedges for the past 15 years. I have a full time job and trim when I can. My pricing has gone up considerably since I started watching you. Thank you!!! My minimum is 250$ and most customers don’t even flinch. My latest job was 22 overgrown burning bushes. Charged 100$/ bb. One of the best pay days for myself. Maybe four hours of work 😃😃. Customer was happy and it paid for my new AC for the home😃😃. To all listening, STAND YOUR GROUND!!!!! When one door closes, ten more open!!! Thanks Keith😃😃

You can’t be afraid to “walk away from a job.” Don’t agree with their price just so you can say, “I got this big job doing.......” because you’ll hate yourself when it ends up taking you an extra 2,3,4 hrs or even an extra day and you’ve already lowered your price. Set a price and stick to it. You don’t negotiate the price you pay when you go buy gas, do you? No, so why let a customer dick you around on your pricing. Don’t do it you’ll regret it every time. Rant over 😂

I think I am getting better at being able to tell when a customer is cheap or just someone that I don't want to work for. 1)If they're indian, it's automatically a red flag 2) if they don't say hi when they message me and just jump to what they want 3) their tone of voice 4) if they're not cordial or kind , every now and then I might be wrong but most of the time I'm right.

Dude, you have to settle down on the flash backs. 🤪🤯😜
Seriously though, I've been going through this recently. Had one lady for 4 cabbage palms. Told her $540. She tells me "thank you but no thank you".
I tell her "you're welcome and have a wonderful day."
She said, it's way over what we paid last year.
Me, so how much did you pay if you dont mind me asking.
    Her, $250.
Me, good for you. I wouldn't be able to keep my doors open for that much. An went on to tell her, just in my LLC, fuel, paying my 2 employees, business insurance, federal taxes and not including all the other bills I have to pay. I dont know how some of these companies stay open.
I can't remember if she responded to that. I did care after that.
I had 3 estimates for tree work that day. Didn't get any. Cause they all wanted the cheap guy.
Keep up with the silly corky videos.

So true about the difference between 10 customers. Sometimes when they say no it's bc they had a Chuck in a truck last yr. Only my second yr in business for myself and I'm standing my ground and raising my prices. I know I did the best work they've ever had last yr "Taj Mahal" so they don't want to go back to Chuck. I've learned to walk. About half the time they call me a few days later and accept my higher price. Now they've become a great customer and they recognize my value. The ones that don't call back..I don't want them anymore. Thanks Keith. You've helped me a ton!

I used your mentors line today and told myself “you see where going along to get along has gotten you” in reference to a pro bono mowing job for a neighbor I have been providing for 5 years. She watched my kids one summer a few years back for free and I told her no payment needed on lawn service. It’s now 3 summers past and with no free babysitting available and other workers are doing work on her property getting paid and I like a chump was just going along to get along. I told her with my legit small business taking off like it has I cannot provide free lawn care anymore. I think it came as a shock to her on how bold I was, but I added my small business has to charge everyone that my equipment is being used on. I put it on my small business. That’s how much I believe in it. A entity that God has allowed me to put together as owner/ sole proprietor is worth being paid on jobs. I love charities, but I will handle them, not my business.

    Hey Keith,
This is pretty long but I hope you read it.
Love your content. Obsessively watched your content as I started my lawn and landscape business 3 years ago when I was 15. I now have a painting company and delegated most of the landscape workload to a friend while maintaining a managing and sales role.
I have built so much more confidence in the value I provide to customers by working with my mentors in the painting industry. Now stepping back into the landscape season, I am charging double the prices and people are still just as happy with the service I provide them with. It has even increased my exposure and strengthened my reputation. I'm not seen as the young teen that does a1 work but rather as the young serious entrepreneur that people are comfortable giving bigger jobs to because I'm comfortable charging them for it. It shows them confidence.
Regarding negotiating your price, I dont do it at all. I think you should consider doing it aswell. You have to frame it to the client in way that it would be extremely unfair towards them if you offer them a price that isnt your absolute best price. What kind of person would that make you if you're lowering your prices? (Someone with weak integrity) It also implies you would have taken advantage of them since you will do it for less then price given, they dont see it as their actually taking advantage of you now because you are technically the one agreeing to the price. That discount price you gave them is now the price they value that job. Customers seem to actual respect you much more with a no negotiating policy and you will have a higher closing rate. (When framed and explained the right way)
ALWAYS SPEAK IN THEIR TERMS! Everyone reading this right now, go listen to the book "how to win friends and influence people" by Dave Carnegie. Certainly you Keith if you havnt already. The book is not about how to make friends, it's much deeper and soooo relevant in everyday life. Trust me, it will change your business and very potentially your life if you apply what you learn! Cant stress this book enough.
The Taj Mahal price concept is called popcorn pricing. You should never present a quote without popcorn pricing. You should even quote other things they didnt even ask for just for popcorn pricing. People actually dont even know what they need done, you have to tell them cause you're the professional. Come from a place of educating them on it and explain the importance. Become upsell central.
    I think I've said enough.
Keith, you're one of the only landscapers that actually has that deep and intellectual reflection of your business.
Love to see your growth over the years and make sure to never get complacent and keep scaling your business. The sky is not the limit, go for the stars.
    Keep grinding 💪
    Download that damn book!

I think a lot of guys don’t factor in riska for jobs. Break a bone or get some stitches, back pulled out of whack or your equipment. I broke my arm on a $100 job. Never again will I undersell myself or not have someone hold a ladder for me lol

It's a shame the landscape field has been tainted by people who under quote do horrible.work, very cutthroat way of doing things. Gotta school these part timers, uneducated and the stragglers lol. Sucks when you're a pro and deal with all the bull

You spoke the truth.. i was telling a buddy of mine.. last week that the reason he has a high close rate is mainly because his prices are too low. He manages to get the jobs but the jobs end up costing more in labor and time .. plus when you factor in customer's high expectation along with a low price tag on the overall project it can become disastrous for a contractor
