I was making over 100k/yr as a lab tech for Coca Cola. Loved the job, wasn’t hard at all and they loved me there (still to this day Ask me to come back 😂) only problem was, I was working 6-7 days a week 16hrs a day. I worked the night shift. So when I was scheduled to work my kids and wife was at work. When I got off they was already gone to work and school. I did that for 8 years. I finally got fed up with not seeing my family and decided to start my lawn and landscape business. Fast forward 1.5 year, I’m doing amazing. Got 4 zero turns all exmarks, 2015 2500 ram, 16 ft big tex dump trailer, all stihl equipment, and much more!!! And I’m home ever night to my family. Best decision ever!!
After watching that video he mentioned, I decided it was time for me to start my own lawn care business. It motivated me more than anything I've seen to date. This was several years ago, but I just quit my dead end job in April. I'm now self-employed & making more money than I was at the old job, including being an LLC & paying my taxes! But, the strange turn of events is I only have two lawn cut customers. All the money is in landscaping, which I didn't plan to be in, but my very first spring cleanup customer asked me what I could do to beautify his property, so I built a patio & a retaining wall, after taking down a small tree & performing the cleanup! Since day one, every job has been landscaping, don't ask me how or why, but that's all there is for work where I live apparently because all the lawn care guys must be cheaper than I can ever be since I pay my taxes. Long story short, just get out there & advertise a little, like print up some door hangers & hang them in the subdivisions you see yourself working in and the phone will ring. It's that easy, just get out there & have a little faith in that voice in your head that's telling you to get out of the rat race! God is real & He's listening!
Glad I found this ... exactly what I needed to hear this morning . I am about to start driving a box truck and deliver and pick up loads ... owner operator. My own boss .. I already have my truck and am in the process of getting authority and DOT #. Opening a LLC today . Just need to pass inspection then get insurance... then BOOM !! I’ll be on the road with no boss while making more money than I ever have . Great to hear this . I can put up with this BS job a little longer .. thinking by the end of August I’m done working for someone else ... I felt every bit of that part where you said ( I’m a grown man working for someone else ) that hit me hard ... good luck 🍀 and hope you one day can automate your business where you can be home while dispatching workers to jobs ... thanks
I came on here to learn how to trim my shrubs, but this is exactly where I'm at in life and what I'm working towards right now. Always listening to life changing audiobooks while working in the yard clears my mind. I'm not a landscaper and I make over $20 an hour, but to me this work is a dead end. I've decided to chase my dreams and do what I was called to do. Videos like these confirm I'm on the right track, especially when I find them randomly! Keep speaking knowledge.
Hey Keith I only started watching like three weeks ago u made me have a sort of an Epiphany I have quite a lot of experience working in luxury golf course maintenance I realized that I was doing that job for 12 an hr when I could be building myself up instead of being a grunt for a multi billion $ golf club the last week I’ve gotten 4 clients simple now and gos but I’m building and it’s because of ur inspiration. Thank you
I’m still learning my trade in landscaping and garden maintenance but I would love to work with Keith for even just a few months. The amount of knowledge you would take away. These videos motivate me and get me thinking like crazy for the future ! Respect Keith 👊
Hey man 👊🏻 ok I don’t feel bad or what ever about myself anymore. I had my light bulb come on two years ago when I was cutting my grass with a riding mower I just went into debt buying. After I went inside and binge watched RUclips videos of lawn care guys. I was like wow WTF just happened I want to do lawn and landscaping. I had a job I hated for almost 30 years (janitor) No matter how hard I work I still go the same pay and get no where. Now this is my second year doing lawn care and still my shit full time job but that will be coming to an end I hope more sooner then later. I wish I had my light bulb turn on years ago, it makes me smile where I could be now if I did. It’s funny I get calls now for lawn care, Aeration, or mulch jobs and I smile and these are on my mind $$$$$$. I’m working way harder then in my full time job but this makes me smile and knowing I’m getting paid what I’m worth for once in my life and it doesn’t feel like people are shitting on me. I’m 52 this year and not looking backward anymore, just forward. You and I are so close to the same type people it’s weird man.
I was a machinist for over 40 years. Last year at the age of 67 I started a lawn care business. Not out of necessity, but out of boredom. Today I have over 40 customers. I love what I am doing. I only wish that I had done this 30 years ago.
Pretty much the same, bored with my job, feel like a slave. No incentives, no feelings of meaningful accomplishments, just money. Been doing lawncare part time for 7 years, love it! Planning on retiring and doing lawncare full time soon. Just do 17 customer right now but confident I can get as many as I want. And all my equipment is paid for, I’m debt free! The wife makes decent as a nurse. Just can’t pull the trigger for some stupid reason
This is so true, I’ve been landing several $150-$400 landscaping/grading jobs and it feels so good to be doing something on my own. My full time job is burning me out and it’s time to make my own schedule. Your videos are awesome 👍🏼
Keith- you are a rockstar. I’ve been watching you over a year and you helped me see this. I actually broke my leg in Jan at a dead end job., and last Tuesday called my boss and said “I’m not coming back, I’m going to do my own thing” Thank you
Love you man!!! I'm on that journey... 7 weeks in and building my garden maintenance business and things are going really well!! I'll know when I'm ready to quit my job!!
Am a landscaper doing roof as subcontractor for one of my labdscaping customer. I am really leaning into roofing, its hard work but very profitable and my goal its to learn the trade then go after the insurances claims.
I want to thank you for helping me do much by simply posting your thoughts to RUclips. I'm hoping to start my own tree service and this is all soooo applicable.
I'm so close to making that jump in my business. Thanks for all you do keith, wouldn't be where I am without your videos. Working on a $4k landscaping bid, and the clients want to add more work! Just ordered the book!
I've been watching you and stanley genadek and geek to freak for years. I want to start a lawn care/junk removal/power washing/light construction business. I eventually want to demo houses like stan genadek. All I've got is an old minivan and some basic mowing equipment. How do I get customer's attention? Will people hire a guy using a van for his business?
Love your story Keith. I personally got tired of my life being controlled by my bosses. So I worked my last job for 8 more years while getting my LC business off the the ground. Ive been full time since 2006 and I still love it.
I’ve seen your videos over the last couple of years and saw your charisma. Today, I subscribed because I buy into what you’re selling. You’re legit my man
Keith please make a video detailing how you got educated and licensed in landscaping. I'm not really sure where you learned it because there's not really a trade school for landscaping.

Cut out the middleman; he was never your friend! The only path to freedom is through yourself; listen to the writing on the walls. Especially if you think you’re not ready. Jump now. Don’t worry; you will learn how to build a plane on the way down. That is the way of the entrepreneur 💪 💪
Keith i want your book but cant access the page man... you are my the reason why i am finally taking the first step... starting with a cub cadet zero turn 2 push mowers a trailer and belief i can make a life for my family by being a business owner!!!! Coming back to landscaping from trucking and its been a long time coming!!! You my distant friend from across the pond are an amazing motivator and THANK YOU!!
I remember way back when you said people would always say " hey, why are you clearing that trailer by hand, you should get a dump trailer" or hey, why are you cleaning up those leaves by hand, you know what you need, a sucker truck. This happens to me literally everyday. I've grown my business right along side you. Except I had some help you didn't have. Your videos. Thank you Keith.
Great video! I think I owe you a thank you and many likes for your motivation over the past 5 years. Started watching In my security booth building my business until I quit. So Thank You for what you do!
What a great story, glad you shared it with us. You inspire me to push harder. I'm just starting my lawn business about 7 months ago. And man is it tuff at times. But nothing I can't overcome!
Just came across this channel you really tell it like it is and I 110%% feeling like you did right now! I will succeed too thank you so much for not sugar coating shit you’re an og man keep it up !!
Dude ive failed at so many Businesses/ventures it doesn't even matter to me anymore. I've had thousands in the bank to negative. But after like the 10th business you just get smarter and harder. Luckily im getting my landscaping going again this year after 2 years of not doing it. Super grateful.
Working for someone i dont really look at it like being taken advantage of but to an extent it is but some bosses are just bad. I look at it like accepting a wage for someone else to deal with the headaches and keep enough work for me/us. I accept the pay and arrive on time (most usually) with the mindset of taking care of my bosses problems to the best of my ability. Like a month ago i literally fixed my bosses truck when i showed so we could work that day, the feedback from my boss was awesome, the right thing isnt always the easiest but usually pays off!
@@keith-kalfas please tell people that employees have to build their market value up too, that they should work part/full-time being the best employee they can, treating the boss like a customer almost, not putting your personal crap on them, not adding to their problems but being kind and helpful, taking all responsibility they can. Then ask for a better wage after proving you can do more/better/try harder after 30-60 days of doing the best possible job every day. To build up to that standard and if their boss won't pay more for better efforts then ask them why alone with them sincerely and if the reason isn't justifiable to you, find a new job before you leave that one because it's not worth the negative interaction of quiting all at once unless they become degrading or violent towards you, essentially, STRIVE TO BE THE EMPLOYEE YOU WOULD WANT TO HIRE!!! Work towards living that while accumulating tools/skills/certifications or whatever you need for your business on the side off of the money you make on side jobs after work, try to separate it from your job income if possible and live off of that separately if at all possible! If you really want to be successful it will happen I believe, you have to steadily work towards it. Choose a service and go towards it, in the big scheme of things not many people are putting in ANY EXTRA EFFORT at all and it gives you a huge advantage. As most people treat you better and interact better with you from doing this, you will become more confident, positive and happier more and more as you do these things continually. Especially with small job things, set a minimum and you will create these positive feedback loops every time you perform a short/small job and perform great as long as you don't let the extremely negative people you come across once in a while pull you down then you will continually feed off of all this positive interaction with customers, bosses, whoever, just strive to be happy, try hard and keep a smile if you can because it goes a long way in helping others around you to having a good time in your presence, be nice, sweet and short like not involving yourself too much but build friendly relationships with the people and customers you want to keep in your life! One of your videos helped make this change and new awareness in me, explain this to them Keith, I love you all America!
You remind me of myself my dude! I was there a couple years ago as well and now I’ve turned it all around. Also, the last few months I fired my gardener and started buying all my own landscaping tools and I’m obsessed now lol. Peace from San Diego!
Your pretty inspiring man. My business is new and it's slowly building but I gotta work on underquoting! It especially hurts when the people are a little too happy about your price :(
Last day I worked at my dead end job was when we was getting a raise and they docked my raise over a new rule they had came up with right before the raise if you use your UTO they were going to dock you on time they gave you off I place my 2 week notice and was done thanks for being real man your one of the few business owners that tell how running a business really is and I will make it got to have time management and hustle your @ss off keep up the hard work man
mire tu video y m3 motivaste para hacer un negocio, watched ur videos and i got inspire to start a business, gonna work in landscaping to learn n within one or 1 1/2 I'm gonna open my own business, Saludos u have a Mexican fan here, have a bless day bro
So many points you made are so valid and similar to my reasons for finally making the jump and going for it!! No looking back or working for anyone else, ever again 👍 LOVE MY JOB !!! Thanks for these videos mate 🙌😎
I relate to you so much, im pretty sure thats why every video you make just speaks to me lol. Guys if you all want to make the journey on your own, do it. Dont let anything in this cruel world stop you. 💪🏻🙏
Today I worked an hour and made 260, which is crazy and I feel so lucky that someone would even hire me. I wonder if this person feels sorry for me or felt like I knew what I was doing but man it just made my day. I don't think I could ever work for someone else either, l enjoy the freedom and grind of being on my own and those bad experiences have helped me. Thanks keith for making these videos !
I believe you I went and felt the same you did brother. I lost my chief in command last week my pops my partner. But now I'm going to go even harder!!! I love how you are humble just like my pops thought me I love your videos bro your an inspiration!!!!
Damn this is some real ass shit man. I had the same story when I began my cleaning business. I remember cleaning this nasty house that would take me 3 hours now 9 hours and getting only 120 bucks. Driving to Marietta for 30, you have to definitely know your worth. I had to escape working a dishwashing job and at McDonalds to find some freedom. Like you, I would've never imagined me cleaning and doing handyman shit, but I can admit I'm glad to be doing it because in this decade everyone will have to do a skilled labor to be deemed useful anyway. I appreciate your videos and they really have been an inspiration for Scorpio&Sebek Universe.😉
Keith bro I started my landscaping business after my boss did not pay me for 6 weeks. We were working roofs in construction i hated him controlling my mind and life.
Bro! go knock on doors and start a conversation with a potential customer, it will lead to something. Drive around and find a house that needs your service and try to sell it even if you end up giving it away. GO!

You remind me of myself my dude! I was there a couple years ago as well and now I’ve turned it all around. Also, the last few months I fired my gardener and started buying all my own landscaping tools and I’m obsessed now lol. Peace from San Diego!
You always encourage me to be the best person I can be in my business 🙏
Thanks Francisco. Means a lot
Your pretty inspiring man. My business is new and it's slowly building but I gotta work on underquoting! It especially hurts when the people are a little too happy about your price :(

So many points you made are so valid and similar to my reasons for finally making the jump and going for it!!
No looking back or working for anyone else, ever again 👍
LOVE MY JOB !!!
Thanks for these videos mate 🙌😎
Corona killed knocking doors lol for now in my area at least
Great video keith
Taking massive action is where it all starts.
Your are a legend my Freind so true iam in my second year and am now working on my own it’s starting to pick up my own firm 😂👊🕺🧤
I relate to you so much, im pretty sure thats why every video you make just speaks to me lol. Guys if you all want to make the journey on your own, do it. Dont let anything in this cruel world stop you. 💪🏻🙏
EXACTLY the same for me. I decided 2 years ago. And what do you know, I pick one of the WORST years to start!...
You said you were going to put a link to a specific video but you put a whole playlist
It's there now. Haha
Keith Kalfas Thanks Man, got me excited to watch it
Ps. I have the book.
I believe you I went and felt the same you did brother. I lost my chief in command last week my pops my partner. But now I'm going to go even harder!!! I love how you are humble just like my pops thought me I love your videos bro your an inspiration!!!!
So Keith (sorry if this is a common repeated question) if you could do it again would you trade the life you had for the other dreams that you had?
I have all the equipment but cant get going consistently bout to give up
Bro! go knock on doors and start a conversation with a potential customer, it will lead to something. Drive around and find a house that needs your service and try to sell it even if you end up giving it away. GO!
Dreamchasing im trying bro
Where did you get the hat ,I started just like you no One helped me you did the right thing .freedom lifestyle
