Idk I don't think he was completely evil. More utterly insane. I mean he's the poster boy for psychosis amogest serial killers.
The actor that plays Gein in the reenactment segments did brilliantly. Even without any lines he sells the insanity of the man. 👏
I live about 15 miles from Plainfield and that place is still creepy as hell
Ummm why should we expect 30-something men to not weep emotionally at their MUM’S funeral???
Totally agree! I didn’t agree with that part!
Because you are to act how they want you to act, think what they want you to think, feel what they want you to feel. Forbid you act as an individual and develope "deviant" fantasies and realities
Right! That was his mom. Crazy or not he loved her and she was all he had.
You're allowed to be angry. That doesn't make it okay to hurt people.
You're allowed to be scared. But running away is rarely the best or only solution.
You're allowed to be happy. But bragging about how great your life is comes off bad.
You're allowed to be sad but you don't have to cry.
Emotion is emotion. . . It's good to be alive 😜
I love the old grainy footage of the resident from Plainfield being interviewed!!!
That is what made the show do it in the ol footage not that color shit
According to wikipedia , Robert Bloch wrote most of his book Psycho before he heard of Ed Gein and what happened in Plainfield. The last chapter was written after he knew of him. Bloch thought it was an amazing coincidence, the similarities between his book and the crimes of Ed Gein.
Thank you for sharing
People cry for people who kill today oh they had a ruff childhood and not responsible these teens who kill know exactly what they are doing..
im glad to hear that people dont do this sort of thing in a small town on a normal day
at least he inspired some damn good horror films!!! :)
At least two classics!
Texas Chainsaw Massacre and what else?
@@mikejones6791 silence of the lambs
@@mikejones6791 he is also based on the Norman Bates character from Psycho
I'd prefer the absence of these horror icons if it meant Ed Gein wasn't such a creature.
What's the deal with the Brit experts. Tell them to sift through their own garbage.
Isn't this a Brit show? I just assumed bc of the experts.
He definitely killed his brother. He led the "help" directly to his brother's body, which, for some reason he couldn't find a few moments earlier. Henry appeared to have been struck in the head by a hammer. Ed probably waited until he was dead and then started the fire as a ruse. It was mostly about their mother. Henry broke free, and Ed was indoctrinated.
The movie Texas Chainsaw Massacre was based on Ed Gein except Gein's crimes happened in Wisconsin instead of Texas & he didn't use a chainsaw. He was the real Leatherface.
Thank you for sharing
I don’t think he was a serial killer, a very sick man no doubt ?
He wasn’t, he only killed 2, they think he maybe could have killed his brother but an autopsy was never preformed so it’s only 2
@@bloodlustvid2503 Also a 15 year old girl went missing and Ed was in the vicinity. As well as 2 hunters that disappeared. I think that Ed confessed to the 2 killings of Mary Hogan and Bernice Worden because the evidence was in his kitchen. I do believe that he was a grave robber which would have explained the body parts but it is widely believed that he killed many more than he admitted to. (including his brother). It would be interesting to know what happened with today's technology. Many more of these questions would be answered. What a shock that must have been !!
He was getting there...
Harold Schecter's book 'Deviant' is exceptionally researched as are his other books.
I absolutely disagree with the final statement of this doc. He does not deserve to be recognized as one of the world's most evil killers. Think about the history of man, and tell me that this story holds any kind of candle to the thousands of other cases that have happened where people weren't insane and committed unspeakable atrocities against their fellow man. This guy was not evil in that sense at all. He was crazy, but not that evil if you compare him to the broad spectrum. Just my thoughts.
Well stated. I was discusted when they said it at the beginning.
They don't care whose name the defimate so long as their making money.
Yeah Gein was sick.
dahmer, bundy, Gacy were evil
I think freak is a more suiting label for him than evil!
He did evil things....he was evil. You don't skin people and kill people for sport just because.
Absolutely agree
You know this guys is nuts.. I mean who eats apple pie with cheese on it… 😂
I do. Love it😂
why not?
That monster 😅
Hey, don't knock it till you've tried it!
Your mom eats nuts with cheese on them
Well, as we all know, "A boy's best friend is his mother."
Harold Schecter's commentary is supreme, fascinating. We can only have compassion for Ed Gein who was insane but his mother was insane and he was a victim of her insanity. I don't think he was EVIL. Psychotic, yes, but he was not operating from a sane mind.
It was shocking in the 1950s especially in a small town like Plainfield. Serial killers come from abuse, always.
Truth
Facts
There must be cases where abuse wasnt the cause. Crazy statement imo
@@MCB400100 I challenge you to find it . I'm a forensic psychologist who interviews serial killers all day everyday for 35 years. I know they cases by heart. Abuse comes mentally and physically and emotionally.
@@Venomous_471 I believe that some people just dont care about other life. Maybe theyre selfish, their interest in dead corpses / anatomy / bones whatever goes first. Thirst is too big. There must be cases that they arent necesairly treaten wrong or abused. Normally raised people can also steal. Their life is normal, they are treaten normal, they are raised normal and you stop and think how the hell did this person turn bad. But I think it happens. People have all sorts of different minds and thoughts. Maybe a person is curious whether he can get away with it and starts killing people to find out. I mean, some people are just evil/weird. Maybe a bad take from my part, but its how I think about this
It’s disgusting but what about people who hunt and preserve those deer heads?
would you like a documentary
RIGHT. I live in Northern Wisconsin and most people think that that's home decor !! Barbaric. !!
He wouldnt need a pick axe to dig up a fresh grave. If he was following obituaries he's just churning up relatively loose soil. And if you span it out enough the hands will heal. However he being a farm hand/farmer with even relatively soft hands means he likely wore gloves.
I absolutely adore Elizabeth Yardley and her all knowing aspects ❤❤❤ she knows so much about these odd ones and why they do what they do 💯💯💯

One of the many consequences of hyper-smugness.
I didn't care for him at all. His condescending snarkiness at rural Americans, compared to the always shining New York (sarcasm) was sickening. I'd put country folk up against a New Yorker any day. His smirks after each not-so-subtle putdown made me want to smack him. I finally just did my best to tune him out when he spoke.
The part about Psycho being inspired by Ed Gein was very interesting.
The guy with the glasses. I’ve never heard so much upspeak in my life. A girl from California does it less than he does. Harold stop
Interesting case
Made in America baby!
Gein's presiding judge wrote a book on this case and the judge felt that all the digging up of the buried would of meant that Gein would of had calloses on his hands Gein at his arrest had no calloses on his hands so the judge wondered who helped Gein? Gein never said anyone helped him nor was anyone ever arrested but Gein had to have had help.
Ed worked with his hands all the time- surely they were calloused.
Wisconsin has a real knack attracting for serial killers...
How about WA in the 80s an 90s? Seattle, Tacoma. Green River Killer and Robert Lee Yates.
This one time...at band camp. Dude's speaking cadence sounds just like that.
Dad,Henry and Ed should have told Mom to shut the Hell up!Not complicated.
Ed gein shocks me to the core these innocent victims
You'd love peewee gaskins then!!!

Harold Schrecter- 'uptalk'
Harold Schechter has a way with words. Sounds like he's trying to sing.
The day I finished reading the book "deviant", the story of Jeffrey Dahmer broke on the news.
Oh man, I can't stand up-speak. Why make every sentence sound like a question?
Yep, nope, I can't finish it. It's like an older male Valley Girl. I can't deal.
Max Harington, RIP, was not only a resident, but the Mayor of Plainfield, Educator and all around good guy. What him and RHsr did for Plainfield back then makes them silent heroes. The "friends house" Was the Hills. That house still stands and is still in the Hill family. They got Ed but never got David Buckholt.. Did you think he dug them graves by himself? David was the brother in law to the "friends house". You should have asked Max who burnt the house down. ;)
This is a good documentary, but man....The guy they interviewed, Harold Schechter, why is it that he sounds like he is answering with questions? Or talking like a robot?
In the depths of a mind insane!
Fantasy and reality are the same!
Dance with the dead in my dreams, listen to their hallowed screams, the dead have taken my soul, temptation lost all control!
SLAYER!!!!!!!!!
Is there a Timeline of geins last murder, and his day that he was caught?
How cool
Edward getting er done!
I love you guys
Wonder if police ever researched the people Gein supposedly dug up? If they were indeed dead from the cemetery or missing persons.
The actor actually kind of resembles ed gein, unlike the majority of this series
What was Ed's favorite restaurant, 5 Guys!!!
Why is this same dude in every single documentary about Gein??
Correction ! After LaCrosse it was Camp Douglas....after a few years than it was Plainfield WI
Not Camp Douglas, but close to it.
I applaud the person who titled this video! I absolutely hate it when people refer to Gein as an serial killer just for views / clickbating. And most of the time people then think he was one. Have my like sir/ma'am/other.
Psycho, Chainsaw Masicer, and Silence Of The Lams, were all based on Ed Gein's true crimes.
He was also the inspiration for Slayer's song "Dead Skin Mask"
Many people don't realize how hard is to bring children up to become a valuable citizens in the community ! If you are not there and allow the state and other people to bring them up, you are in a danger for the local ''gangs'' to bring them up as ''belonging'' is one of the basic needs in the human ''hierarchy needs'' ....The other extreme is, if you nurture your child so much that your child become completely dependent on you that they can not function without you ( Norman Bates) or in this case Ed Gein.....This world needs to be enlighten as be careful who you are having a kids with and why you are having them and are you sure you can take care of them! We believe we are educated, smart and we know we are making a right decisions - on the contrary as the ''animal instinct'' within human beings is still operating more strong than any ever, AKA fighting for an abortion rights instead of preventing it and having a children in pointless relationships and giving them up....This is a complex case, so I would need a Seminar to decipher what I am talking about ...lol
Too many commercials/ads
What is sickening is that Ben Stein wannabe expert’” and his up talking!!
Exactly I keep hearing him saying BULER! BULER!🤣🤣🤣
Omg that guy's way of talking was driving me crazy sll the way through this documentary! Irritating!

Agreed. It’s absolutely distracting. Then you’ve got Drew Barrymore in a bad wig and a fake accent backing him up.
@THE KYNOLOGIST wow way to embrace your prejudice. Any more antisemitism to share?
I enjoy these stories but there's one expert who ends nearly every sentence with an up inflection as if the statement was a question. It a little thing but really really really makes me cringe and eventually gives me a headache. 🤦🏼♀️

OG avant garde... an artist ahead of his time!
The religious pounding his mother gave him will ruin any child and it needs to stop.

since when is two murders considered serial killer? Grave robbing does not consist murder. you cant murder the dead. thats just grave robbing. two very different things.
Just gross abuse of a corpse I think it is just a mistermenor

@jat6547
There is some innocence in some in every faith. The innocence who seeks truth instead of what they need or ben told to believe or ELSE. So, yes you are correct. Why I knew I was wrong in choosing this faith/religion. It was the story I thought was true. I was looking for truth, not a story to believe in. Why it was so easy to leave. Truth always wins over a story every time.
@@razony if you seek truth. All u need is Jesus. The Way,, The Truth , The Life. DON'T be deceived.
@jat6547
That sounds nice, but I tried that. Speak of being deceived. That's what Christianity does, it deceives people with a nice, pretty story and that's all I/we EVER get. A story. To me, the real evil in humanity is in religions/Christianity. They talk the talk, but can't and don't walk the walk. We've (humanity) has been deceived!!!
@jat6547
Speaking of being deceived. One of many things I learned with Christianity. They love to talk pretty little things. 'Jesus loves you, Jesus will answer all your prayers, Jesus will never let you down...' I'm 65 and All Christians do is talk the talk, rarely do Christians ever walk the walk. Bible verses are so empty and lame because it's all Christians do. I don't regret asking Jesus into my life way back when, but it was/is the worst thing I ever done. Completely false hope. Thank... I found the truth of everything and Jesus/Christianity is NOT IT! Hope and pray you Christians wake up.

Gotta say seems like the true crime community attracts some incredibly shallow and opinionated people, many of whom appear to be nitpicking over the smallest of things for things about which they can bitch, from the speaking peculiarities to the appearances of those featured in the documentary. Not at all a shining testament to the keen intellects or sharp investigation skills of those individuals, that's certain.
