I dont often need to build tool stands but occasionally I have, and while I get more satisfaction from a welded metal stand, I must admit I've turned to wood for my latest half ton mill. Steel prices are just unreasonable for me.

Yeah raw stock proces are high. And with the 20 foot lengths you have to pick it up yourself somehow or pay to have it delivered. It adds up fast.
