Thanks for the vid, btw what about washing the shaver, I've seen people use just normal hand soap and running under water while switched on but im cautious of what saop to use 🤷♂️
I do that now as the unit has run out of cleaning fluid. I don't use any soap though just water. Non idea what soap others are using. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
I just had a realization and that seems to be the only way that the manual's instructions are not weird: Either you do the soap water cleaning method or the brush method. Oiling is only mentioned for the former, but since soap degreases that would mean that re-oiling would have to happen after every cleaning. Very tedious to have an allegedly smoother shaving experience and maybe a bit more battery and foil life due to less friction. The brush method seems much more feasible: Hair cuttings will be dry not oily (provided you only shave a freshly washed face) and thus very easy to clean. - If you oil the shaver, brush cleaning is out of the question or you'll get clumps of oily hair cuttings into the brush. Furthermore, for some cheaper models it is still stated in the manual that it should ideally be oiled, but there they couldn't even be bothered to include that cheap tiny oil bottle, and yet they recommend using only their oil.

Agree. I had a Panasonic ES7101 for fifteen years and never oiled it. Just cleaned it with a brush. I would use it dry after washing my face with warm water or after showering. The shaver worked perfectly fine. Just upgraded to the Panasonic ES-LV65-s and I have got to say that I am hugely impressed. It is an amazing shaver.

It could just be the way that it vibrates and moves. You’ll probably just have to spread it around with your finger or drop it in different places and move it around. Sorry I can’t be more helpful as I don’t have that shaver.
@@experiment54 I guess the oil leaks down due to gravity if the drop is big. Applying while it runs can help distribute it before gravity foils your plans. Personally I'd probably go by less-is-more and gently touch the foil with the tip of the bottle so that the oil flows into it before a bigass drop can form.
The oil you put on the blades will pick up the hair and will make it more difficult to clean the inside with a brush into a bucket. The hair isn't good to put down the drain. Over time I think will clog your drain. Thoughts?
How to clean the blades? I had an lv 65 and red that blades wear out after 4 months and it happened to me also. I am now sefty razor guy but planing to buy New shaver in a year. Also i have to say that i love Panasonic, had 2 and the lv 65 iritated my skin so bas and overheated. I oiled it 3 times a week, cleaned it and still it was dull. Please mate help i know they can last 3 years of daily or weekly use.

Ibe just bought 3 tubs of machine oil from boyes it's only a £1.00 or so and each tubs 3 times the sizof what we got free with these arc 5 machine 👍👍 by the way thanks for telling me to give it a few days and get use to my new arc 5 ime eating humble pie caus I like it now. It really all depends on how dirty your shaver gets depending on your beard and how course it is et cetera Personally I can usually tell when it needs oiling because the shave is not as good. Hope that helps
if you allow me, this is a piece of simple advice: quick clean your shaver after every shave (your daily morning shave), once a month give it a deep good clean, and then lubricate the foil/cutter with a light sewing machine oil; discharge your shaver battery (by using it) every 5 to 6 months (with the Braun you do this), it depends on the type of battery of your shaver. if you use your shaver on the wet mode (water, gel, foam, or soap) then lubricate your blades 2 to 3 times during the week to keep your shaver in tip-top condition, free from rust and sharp blades; do this I can assure you a very long-lasting good shaver.
I have always used BRAUN. Couple hundred bucks a throw. They would last about 5 - 6 years. Never thought about oil or lubricants. Now my last BRAUN only cost $30.00 and it’s on its third year. It’s the basic blue and black with no trimmer or case/ base. I just finally rinsed it with hot water and sprayed the rotation heads with WD4. Lot quieter now. My dad told me to change the oil in my car once in a while, as a teen. I never did. The guys at the gas station would check my oil levels and say my oil was black, I said ok and to put a quart in. One day my car stopped working. Something about tie rods?? I only cared about the sound system. I never knew girls liked guys with flashy cars. I only knew girls flocked to me before I even had any cars. Music was all that mattered. Thank you for telling me to oil my razor.

Hello. I recently bought the Braun series 7 shaver and its my first experience at all with electric shaver. But the middle part of the head,between the two foils is getting really hot during shaving ,I even burned myself. Should I oil it , or I should oil only the foils ?
Tihomir Stoqnov you should oil it to maintain the cutting edges and performance. All electric shavers will get hot if used for a long time. Maybe try to rest the shaver and shave in two goes. That’s what I would do if it’s that hot. Another possibility is the foils and cutting blades need replacing. If they are old they won’t cut very well and will be better to buy new ones so shaving is quicker, quicker means there will be less heat. Hope that helps.

I bought wahl shaver oil. I’ll do a quick video later showing the bottle etc I only oil when necessary. Depends on how dirty the shaver gets. This will vary based on how the beard is, dark thick hairs may require oiling more often. Hope that helps, and stay tuned for that oil video later 👍
I know this is an older video but I appreciate your content and all the great information you provide. I have had the arc 5 for about 3 years. I have had to replace the foil every year and the blades once or twice. The foils develop small holes that cut my face. I strictly shave in the shower with the razor and rinse off the shaving cream and let it dry. I have never oiled the foil. Was thinking of trying the Braun but if I am to blame for the wear/holes I will order another replacement and try oiling if you think that is my best option. Thanks in advance
I think the foil on the arc5 is more fragile than the braun but it could you are pressing a little too hard or your beard is real tough and that’s why your foil is breaking on the arc5. Hope that helps. Abs thanks it’s nice to hear you like my videos 🙏
Yes not fragile but more fragile than brauns foil if memory serves. The whole arc5 feels lighter and less substantial than the braun. The braun feels more tougher and stronger over all. The arc5 feels more like a précision instrument.
My arc 5 did not include any oil.....and the instructions did not mention it either.......don't have the cleaning station.....just run it under water when done.....open it up once a week and clean it with an old toothbrush....one important thing to do is to keep the plastic guard on the shaving foils whenever the shaver is not in use.....the foils are very fragile to bumps on anything that is not your face..... and will deform and effect the inside blades.....
It's important to oil shavers it makes the blade last longer and it keeps the blade cutting as smooth..and stops over heating on blades ..I have a bruan series pro shaver that to never came with oil and never mentioned it needs oiling but I already new shavers need oiling like hair clippers I do..any hair clippers oil works I use my hair clippers oil.or a bruan oil or whals oil you can use ... never use wd40 or olive oil ..I have mention never to use them types cos some people are actually using wd40 on shavers or olive oil it will kill blades and in end break the shaver by clogging it up ..yes I find it madness how some people use wd40 .it will totally ruin shaver in end ..
Although if someone as a cleaning station you don't need oil the blades your self the cleaning system will do it for you I have cleaning system but I only use it ones a Saturday..not everyday .I feel like using a cleaning station everyday Is not needed I just rinse blades under tap on days I don't use cleaning station and oil up every 2 days but I shave with foam so I will use more oil off the foam so I oil every 2 days instead
Lubrication is a very very very very importan part of it. All mechacnical devices need proper lubrication, even the chain of your bicycle should have an oil tank attached so the chain is lubricated on the run, but it would be annoying and the oil in the chain makes you sticky and a mess and customers don't like that. I am an engineer and I can tell you that the shaver should be lubricated in a daily basis, moreover it should have a lubrication station similar to the cleaning station in order to keep it lubricated, but it would be a mess and customers dont like oil, because you get sticky. In the past cyclist use to get oil in the run (helpers in a car applied oil to the chain); this example is to show how important it is. People see lubrication as a secondary aspect but it is very very important, even using the wrong lubricant can damage severely the electric shaver. I consider the cleaning station is rather to clean wasted oil rather than human skin or dust or hair. Oil after a while turns into an sticky black mass (like petroleum) and I would say the cleaning station gets rid of this wasted oil.
Tin Man I’m sorry I don’t get that with this electric shaver. Maybe don’t shave so close? Just go over once or lightly and not try to shave it right down? That’s what I would do if I had ingrowing hairs. I haven’t had any since I was a young man around my teens and just out of those years. I used to get them on my neck area. A right pain. Hope you figure something out.
You need to exfoliate your skin and wash your face with warm water. The reason why you are getting ingrown hairs (a common problem with electric shavers) is because there is a very thin layer of skin just above the hairs when you shave. If you exfoliate your skin, it will remove the skin and your shaver will remove the hairs effortlessly. You can pick up an exfoliating face wash from any supermarket or chemist.
- Huh, I would have assume it's shaving *worse* with oil on it. Interesting that it seems to do better. - Less oil can be better than more. I would probably worry about it creeping through the gaskets into the interior. I'd probably put a drop on my finger and move that across the foils. A finger is a good applicator. - Also, that Panasonic tells us it's liquid paraffin is surprisingly communicative, and it's calming to know it's completely harmless. My drug store brand hair cutter came with a bottle that grotesquely stated that it is harmful to your health and if ingested to immediately seek medical help. And residue of that stuff is supposed to get on your skin??!! (I resorted to oiling it with silicone oil, which is a favorite of mine because it is so harmless and has other good properties. But dunno whether it is alright for electrical razors.) - Also kudos for not cutting out speech blunders. It is more authentic and the sincerity helps relate, and it is also a good self-motivating feedback to improve (the free speaking but also the tolerance of mistakes), which I respect.
Thanks man, glad you liked the video. I think with the oil it maybe my skin and beard is dry so the oil oils it and that helps it cut easier. So really its probably just me that needs oiling not the blades 😂😆
That's the best way to damage ur shaver, you're not suppose to turn that thing on uncovered, all u need to do is just add oil on top of the foil and also on the blades while not turned on. Put everything back then turn it own to let it lubricate.

There are cutting mechanisms behind the foil that’s why I oil it sometimes. The oil drops through or should, wipe the excess off.

I usually wet shave with my Braun Series 3 electric shaver. Immediately wet shaving after oiling my electric shaver won’t be an issue right?
I usually oil it after I’ve finished shaving. Then it’s ready for the next day.

I have a Babyliss Pro shaver. When I drop the oil on the blade it doesn't spread around, it just stays in that spot.

Oil and water don’t mix. You may wash off some of the oil but not all of it.

I think you only need to oil the 2 foils on the Braun shavers and not the middle part. The main thing is that you oil the foils.
NIce videos sir... I have a question: what if you are running out of oil. Is it easy to get the oil? can I use mineral oil?
Its easy to get oil in this day and age. I bought a big bottle of wahl shaver oil. It'll last for ever.

The unit light changes to status low, and the clean feature stops working when you press the button

My arc 5 did not include any oil.....and the instructions did not mention it either.......don't have the cleaning station.....just run it under water when done.....open it up once a week and clean it with an old toothbrush....one important thing to do is to keep the plastic guard on the shaving foils whenever the shaver is not in use.....the foils are very fragile to bumps on anything that is not your face..... and will deform and effect the inside blades.....
It's important to oil shavers it makes the blade last longer and it keeps the blade cutting as smooth..and stops over heating on blades ..I have a bruan series pro shaver that to never came with oil and never mentioned it needs oiling but I already new shavers need oiling like hair clippers I do..any hair clippers oil works I use my hair clippers oil.or a bruan oil or whals oil you can use ... never use wd40 or olive oil ..I have mention never to use them types cos some people are actually using wd40 on shavers or olive oil it will kill blades and in end break the shaver by clogging it up ..yes I find it madness how some people use wd40 .it will totally ruin shaver in end ..
Although if someone as a cleaning station you don't need oil the blades your self the cleaning system will do it for you I have cleaning system but I only use it ones a Saturday..not everyday .I feel like using a cleaning station everyday Is not needed I just rinse blades under tap on days I don't use cleaning station and oil up every 2 days but I shave with foam so I will use more oil off the foam so I oil every 2 days instead

Lubrication is a very very very very importan part of it. All mechacnical devices need proper lubrication, even the chain of your bicycle should have an oil tank attached so the chain is lubricated on the run, but it would be annoying and the oil in the chain makes you sticky and a mess and customers don't like that. I am an engineer and I can tell you that the shaver should be lubricated in a daily basis, moreover it should have a lubrication station similar to the cleaning station in order to keep it lubricated, but it would be a mess and customers dont like oil, because you get sticky. In the past cyclist use to get oil in the run (helpers in a car applied oil to the chain); this example is to show how important it is. People see lubrication as a secondary aspect but it is very very important, even using the wrong lubricant can damage severely the electric shaver. I consider the cleaning station is rather to clean wasted oil rather than human skin or dust or hair. Oil after a while turns into an sticky black mass (like petroleum) and I would say the cleaning station gets rid of this wasted oil.

I have the same shaver and keep getting ingrown hairs/skin irritation after shaving. How do you avoid this?

That’s what I would do if I had ingrowing hairs. I haven’t had any since I was a young man around my teens and just out of those years. I used to get them on my neck area. A right pain. Hope you figure something out.
You need to exfoliate your skin and wash your face with warm water. The reason why you are getting ingrown hairs (a common problem with electric shavers) is because there is a very thin layer of skin just above the hairs when you shave. If you exfoliate your skin, it will remove the skin and your shaver will remove the hairs effortlessly. You can pick up an exfoliating face wash from any supermarket or chemist.
Useful once you managed to put a few words together.

- Huh, I would have assume it's shaving *worse* with oil on it. Interesting that it seems to do better.
- Less oil can be better than more. I would probably worry about it creeping through the gaskets into the interior. I'd probably put a drop on my finger and move that across the foils. A finger is a good applicator. - Also, that Panasonic tells us it's liquid paraffin is surprisingly communicative, and it's calming to know it's completely harmless. My drug store brand hair cutter came with a bottle that grotesquely stated that it is harmful to your health and if ingested to immediately seek medical help. And residue of that stuff is supposed to get on your skin??!! (I resorted to oiling it with silicone oil, which is a favorite of mine because it is so harmless and has other good properties. But dunno whether it is alright for electrical razors.)
- Also kudos for not cutting out speech blunders. It is more authentic and the sincerity helps relate, and it is also a good self-motivating feedback to improve (the free speaking but also the tolerance of mistakes), which I respect.
Thanks man, glad you liked the video. I think with the oil it maybe my skin and beard is dry so the oil oils it and that helps it cut easier. So really its probably just me that needs oiling not the blades 😂😆

That's the best way to damage ur shaver, you're not suppose to turn that thing on uncovered, all u need to do is just add oil on top of the foil and also on the blades while not turned on. Put everything back then turn it own to let it lubricate.
