This man never won a slam, or even a masters. But he will go down in history as one of the greats? Why? Because he has always known and always demonstrated on court that winning on it's own isn't everything. You have to love it, too. I've never seen anyone play with more joy than Monfils. He has always been a joy to watch, has always given the audience what it wants. He never let percentages or stats get in the way of a great match and having fun on court. This match was, imo, less about desperately trying to win fkr winning's sake, but for the people who support him and want him to succeed. He didn't play for himself, he played for his fans whom he clearly loves. And above it all, he showed that sometimes you can win by wanting it so bad and never giving up. If this man never plays again, the tennis world already owes him a huge debt foe the joy and fun he has brought us over the years. Go lightly, king.

To all those people who are justifying the antics "Have you not heard about adrenaline ?" Lol. Calm down. You don't limp after the point to get the crowd to cheer for you more and then run around like it's normal during the point or just when you are about to hit the winner. If it's adrenaline, you won't go up and down in a matter of seconds. After cramping or being passive, if it's adrenaline, you just take off and stay there for a while or until you win/lose. What Monfils did here or does often isn't illegal but is just gamesmanship which is fine and as an opponent you should be able to deal with everything that your opponent throws at you. Kyrgios is an obvious one where he is constantly chatty and makes you lose focus. There's Fognini who is similar to Monfils in terms of antics. And the crowd likes them because it's entertainment of a different kind!
