Hey everyone, some general things I should mention with this video. There are some points where I take some creative liberty with the narrative, since there doesn't really exist a moment by moment account of the Sack itself, but for the most part I try to keep to the sources I have included in the description, but even they are limited. For example, I could never really pin down the primary source for that '189 Swiss Guards' reference that is literally everywhere on the internet, even in what is supposed to be the definitive source on the sack of Rome, Ludwig Freiherr von Pastor's History of the Popes. I did find it on a defunct website run by The Vatican, however, they also neglected to mention the primary source. Anyway, hope you liked the video - please do use this comment to let me know if you spotted anything in the video that can be sourced/clarified, and just your comments/criticisms in general!

Sadly, despite the city surrendering in June, the Imperial Army did not depart from Rome immediately. They stayed in the city continuing their ransacking and debauched behavior until October when a wave of bubonic plague broke our into the city and decimated many of the invaders as well as the Roman citizens who had managed to survive that long.
