    Great review/demo! The designer has said the "burn" gets channel 2 closer to the Peavey 5150 block letter gain. Burn off is more like 5150 III gain.

    I really appreciate that you get to the point in this video. Very informative, and well done. I'm actually looking at buying this same amp in the next day or so. Fortunately, I have a great relationship with my local guitar shop, and they are going to let me bring it home to take it for a test drive, before committing to purchase. Again, thanks for the review. Definitely subbing. Cheers! 🤘🏻

    Hi mate, subbed! If money is not a problem would you still grab the 5150III 50W over Iconic? Do you find 20W attenuator of Iconic useful?

    • @NotAnotherSatchFan

      @@OliRoyer awesome thanks for response. I have the LBX-S (Stealth) and it has pretty good low volume at max power attenuation. I play at night so part of me wanting that attenuator BUT I've never tried it myself... on the other hand I've been using 5150III OG countless times in a band studio and I really loved it!

    I have said this on a few channels that were giving negative reviews " In all of the years i have played and with all of the amps I have played thru and or owned I NEVER wanted or felt the need for a EVH amp" and until this amp I stuck to that saying without prejudice because let's face it depending on what you play or how you play there are a dozen great amps out there for me I started with Marshall many many years ago and then found i hated the tone , changed to ADA which I kick myself for getting rid of all of it. I should if nothing else kept the MP-1 which people are buying up all these years later because they do sound amazing..Then I went to the Crate Blue Voodoo for a while and even played there Excalibur 2600 I believe it was called but it was a 90's solid state but it could thump as a second amp doing stereo.. Tried Laney for a little , Then Mesa Mark IV then the Mark V and wow they were great but I changed to the Carvin VL100 Legacy early 2000 and loved it had several and then realized i was just taking up too much room. Used a Vox 60 and 120 not in public but for sounds , Tried a Friedman wasn't real happy .. Long story short my Legacy Needed recapped and I wanted a new amp and looked at the Peavey 6505 + for a while and I see a lot of guys selling everything they own to get one and at the same time it was the original 5150 so it was on back order for a while and then out of the blue I was called about the 5150 Iconic and I took two of my Favorite guitars with me 1) being my custom Ibanez Jem no Tremelo 2) my Custom Tele which also is fully loaded with Dimarzio pickups like all of my guitars and this amp played amazing thru a oversized Mesa cab and when I got it home to my cabs it did not disappoint (Vintage 30's and Celestion) and it has been amazing and the direct out is powerful as hell also .. The point to this story even if I don't use it as my primary I may use it as my monitor cab in certain situations because it has tone and clarity.. I also want to say that a few of us think burn tightens it up a little so sometimes it is hard to turn off especially if your relying on the amp and not effects racks but i wanted to add that tid bit..
    Long to short I appreciate a channel that wasn't straight this thing sucks ,can't get any tones out of it and the people on the page jumped on the owners comments like a pack of hungry dogs eating at his every word .. I stated on his page that not everyone will like the same sounds or tones or colors an amp produces but you don't lead this pack of people who never played one just heard what the owner played from his cell phone and expect anyone to appreciate it , but i thought the most hateful comments were from some of his fans saying that people were cheating by using attenuaters but when you use different amps you have no choice sometimes and its not really meant to change it that much that is like you showed the guitars and pickups and that is very appreciative for you to show.. However what i will add is my newest custom Tele has Dimarzio Super Distortion T in it and I cant really use channel 2 because it is so hot and really feeds back a good bit on channel 2 especially with burn.. Now i can dial back the gain some and it changes but there is no reason to leave channel one with it ,Its the first time I used the single slot version so sometimes i say its a bit much for the Iconic jokingly but It should fall into place with one of my other amps because i don't use there distortion on the amp, just everything into the front on clean so that should help a little .. lol
    Anyway i enjoyed your show man and great playing on the demo also ...
    Cheers

    Which amp do you prefer for hard rock the Fender III or Iconic? I like the smaller head form factor of the III. Both have miniscule OTs which mean they will saturate and compress sooner than larger Plexi style OTs.

    Thanks! In context of shows in our metal band, I am thinking of making the change from my MARSHALL DSL 100'S into 412 - to one of these OR the 50w.
    We play loud (as we f..g should) and I basically use amp gain - What do you think would give the biggest sound? I am the only guitarist.

      Yeah, nothing new.

    Not sure why its called the 5150. The designer admitted its different and a misconception this was trying to be any of the other amps, its totally different.

      Because its the Original designer of the Peavey 5150 and 5150 pedals.. But if nothing more than it was a request by Eddie Van Halen before he passed away..

    • @emartinezr
      @emartinezr 10 месяцев назад

      They're pretty similar in general tonality but not the same.
      Have you ever seen Nike Air Jordan shoes? Are the OG exactly the same as all the other versions? Why are they all still called Jordans? 😒
      Have you ever heard and compared the two? There's a few videos with comparisons... they sound similar, but the new one has a few more voicing and tone options.

  • @Ibanezguy2007
    @Ibanezguy2007 2 года назад

    Don't get this. It sucks. I own one and regret not getting the 5150 3 - it doesnt cut through a band mix. Is super messy, muddy and fizzy and fuzzy at the same time. Sounds ok playing on its own though!

    • @Eliphas_Elric
      @Eliphas_Elric Год назад +3

      Bro it sounds just like an old Peavy 5150 block letter, if you cant get it cut in a band mix you're doing something wrong. Turn your gain down, turn your volume up to juice the power section a little (will help with the fizz), and slap a TS9 out in front and you should have the most mix ready tone one can ask for, unless you just have the bass and treble dimed with the mids scooped all the way out.

    • @emartinezr
      @emartinezr 10 месяцев назад

      @@Eliphas_ElricExactly. That was a clueless comment. If you dial it to sound great by itself, it's obviously going to struggle in a mix. But if you hear the isolated mix tone, it's going to sound terrible... too bright and without any "weight".
