Two reasons I left the Dominican Republic and returned to Florida. The Health care is a joke. My cousin came to visit and ended up needing stitches. Went to the best hospital in Punta Cana. OMG the place was horrible. Not only is the human health care horrible, but vet care is even worse. I have two dogs, and the vet clinics I visited went from bad to worse. Being an animal lover and seeing the huge homeless pet population is horrible. Starving street dogs everywhere. The country has beautiful beaches but that can't outweigh the poverty you have to see on a daily basis. The average salary for a Dominican is $300 per month. You read that right. Dominicans are great people but the corrupt government treats its citizens like pure garbage. I appreciate being back at my home state of Florida. We are free, we are first world and have become the best place to live in the world. I am going to buy myself a vacation condo in the Bahamas. More expensive but it's first world all the way, English speaking etc. Think about this 🤔 it's 2023 and the DR still does not have clean water or reliable electricity. Record foreign investments, record tourism yet no change in the infrastructure. The corruption is sickening.
Hello Kevin Thanks for the detailed comment. I understand your strong position here but I feel it's important that we realize that this is an emerging market. I am from canada - if you needed stitches you would be sitting in a waiting room for 36 hours - or more. Major surgery - 8 months. While Florida is great - and I like it - I would never want to go back to the 1st world grind. On the topic of corruption - I just watched the Netflix special on Madoff. Corruption exist - for sure. But everywhere in the world struggles with this. Imo north America's corruption is at the highest of levels. For every corrupt politician we can only hope there are 5 ethical ones working to change the system and improve it. We need more people like you investing here as I know you can make this a better place as well. Key aspect here is - emerging market. There are many many people that cannot afford the Bahamas. They have been trapped in their 9-5 grinding out 40+ years of monotonous work. North Americas prices have gone wild - Florida being one of states - and the average Joe cannot afford to buy there - or many other Caribbean countries - so the dream of sunny beaches and a relaxed life is to far from reality. The DR allows these people to get in. This creates more jobs. One investment at a time the country lifts itself out of poverty. One person at a time. Give the DR a chance. Not so long ago the USA had a civil war and blacks had to fight for a seat on a bus. Look where we have come. The DR can do it too. I am watching it. Thanks so much for your input. Well you should have done your homework before moving to the country. Is a third world country still I don't know if you knew that which means you're going to need cash in hand to get what you want. They do have really good hospital but you probably went to a public hospital which should make you happy that they were able to stitch you up 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️. Anyway if you still own a place down there let me know I'll pay you half of the appraisal value so you don't lose everything 😉😱. You probably went down there looking to play bingo all night so you went exactly to the wrong place so yes stay in FL and enjoy it. But I can't help feeling like I am trapped in a big, monotonous world where I go to restaurants ( no music), eat, mow lawn, walk the dog, rinse, and repeat! I really envy you guys.
