Thankfully, the lady who started my sister locs taught me how to interlock after the third tightening. I've been doing my own since 2005. The only time I go to the salon is to get my hair professionally colored.
Thank you so much. Frankly, it’s a commitment. I am yet to meet anyone with regrets so that says a lot about the hairstyle. Take your time of course and ask many questions (both dumb and smart). Let me know what you decide ☺️
Very beautiful! It’s even more difficult to find a cosmetologist who’s also a consultant. And taking new clients who doesn’t want you to cut your hair to install. But I’m going to find her!
Beautiful hair & great video. I’ll say it for you Sisterlocks are expensive! I have diy interlocs just under 200 4 years in & I love them. I originally wanted SL but wasn’t prepared to travel out of town to get them & maintain them as I’ve always worn my natural hair no wigs weaves extensions & done it myself I learned to my own locs. Did interlocks for my 2 sisters & Mom who’s in her 70’s & installed traditional locs on 2 of my sons. Love loc’d life 😊🇬🇧
You took the words out of my mouth 😁 I try not to use words like “expensive” because it’s relative but I definitely understand where you’re coming from. My sisters did their locs themselves and I honestly can’t tell the difference between it being professionally done or homemade. It looks so good on them and their hair is flourishing. We all are good at something but won’t know unless we try.
So true! When you think of the history of locs how they started originated it was from spirituality, identity, experimentation & necessity. It’s developed into a moneymaking hairstyle & there’s nothing wrong with that, but as you pointed out your sisters locs & yours look no different as when you strip it down to basics- they are both locs. Thanks for replying & enjoy your hair & the freedom, versatility it brings. 😊🇬🇧 ps maybe as a video you could feature comparisons between you & your sisters hair showing how different rotations end up looking or doing same styles, & seeing how they look. 🤞🏾
Absolutely. You’re welcome. Just make sure you ask questions (technique-micro vs sisterlocks, maintenance, pricing- installation and maintenance and so on). God bless
I love your hair. I’m three months microloc’d and really have no desire to ever do my own reties. As a loose natural I wouldn’t do my hairstyles because of the time and arm workout investment. The longest my hair was may have been about 15 inches and I had my locs installed at 12-13 inches. I’m in Abuja, Nigeria and the costs are not as prohibitive as elsewhere maybe but we also don’t really have sisterlocs certified loctitians so we have more non-branded microlocs. My loctitian seems to know what she’s doing but I’ll schedule a visit with someone else just so I know my options are open if she’s unavailable. I’d tried another place when I was about a month in and they washed without braiding and banding because they felt my hair could take it. A lot of unraveling took place days after. They also seemed to have caused some initial traveling of strands which my loctitian had to fix. I love the journey though as I really have never been one to do a lot of stuff with or to my hair and this works. Thanks for sharing. Off to subscribe 💛
Very well said Nkechi. I get where you’re coming from. Usually when I find someone who does my hair well, I try to stick with them. Unwarranted change can be costly. Apart from cost, one of the reasons I started doing my hair is to learn so that last last if there are no more locticians near me, I am not stranded. It’s a lot of work like you said. I don’t plan on doing it myself for too long. At some point, I will go back to having a professional do it but for now, it’s the FRUGAL option for me. The style is low maintenance which is perfect, but is high maintenance (cost-wise).
Hello Qiana. I have used 2 locticians so far and they are both in Cali. Kindly let me know if you are also in the area or are willing to travel for your install. God bless.
Hello Sheila 👋🏾 thank you very much. My hair was already cut in that shape a few years prior before I got my locs done. It was a happy coincidence that happened to just work out for my hair ☺️
Hello Ruth, my routine changes from time to time. I wash my hair every week and oil my scalp post wash. I spray my locs with a mix of oil, leave-in conditioner and a lot of water once a week or whenever I feel like it. I am not regimented with my hair and I also don’t mind trying new things. Thank you
Thank you lady. I have never counted my locs. I most likely will make that my next video cos I also sometimes get curious about the number of locs I have ☺️

Cut your hair? Oh no sis. No one should have to make such a compromise. I’m sure you’ll find the right match for you ❤️

Hi! I’m in San Diego. What area in Cali are the loctitians located that you went to?
Your locs are absolutely gorgeous 🥰Did you cut your locs in that layered style? Or was your hair already layered before you got locs.
