@@otakumangastudios3617 I was surprised at how much more of a coherent experience it was compared to the manga. I watched it with people who knew nothing about Blame! going into it. I really dont have any complaints, it was very well done.
I am very frustrated that this didn't become an actual series. Oh, and it's so colorful because it was made as a color experiment by animation students,so to include a more appropriate color palate would defeat the purpose.
I have always loved the feeling of the world in Blame!. It is not bright, it is unforgiving, it is timeless, and it is not even build by humans. He gives us a window into a world where normal humans would never survive. And even if we could, our lives are so insignificantly short compared to the lifespan of the megastructure that we would be barely a blip on the radar. In many ways, it perfectly represents the real world. Only a select few can survive, and even they are scarred by the dangers.
blame's setting is amazingly convicting, without many dialogues the whole realm is created throughout imagination... one of the greatest mangas, in my opinion, the anime can't top the feeling you get reading one of the books and barely knowing anything at the end of the first three parts but experiencing the whole atmosphere is brilliantly made by Nihei.
the fishshadow swimming at the wall at 1:47 remindes me of angel's egg/tenshi no tamago.. i don't understand why the creator stopped production; it looks great to me.. i also like the choice of colours...
tiphΔres yes you are right but i just found a page with that fish in blame! manga, I don't know if you have read it or not but Dhomocevsky and Iko has the same fish in their room swimming in a big fish tank alone. (Realized this detail during my re-reading of whole volumes) * * * About Blame! I've heard it will be aired within Knights of Sidonia. Anime within anime, I dont know what kind of thing will it be. But i hope they will make its standalone version as an anime..
Yes ! in Blame and Tenshi no tamago, this is a " Coelacanthe " , Fossile live fish ! the explanation is to be found in archeology, and these strata also called "logs" , like computer logs
This looks fucking awesome. Honestly looks better than the anime coming. And from what I hear, its not suppose to have a ton of dialogue which I'm fine with cuz it makes it even cooler
I love the music in BLAME ona. And the visuals, glitching memory wandering the superstructure. And fk, there is this charm to slowburn and OG Berserk anime kind of Still yet Moving animation
I remember starting this series a few years ago but I never managed to finish it since tokyopop went defunct and pulled out of America. Nihei's stuff is always visually striking but the story is often difficult to grasp, especially with Biomega.
About the city: If you read NOiSE the city started on Earth and kept going until it ate the Moon. If you read BLAME! 2 or the other sequel, it's bigger than our current solar system.
I wish there was some sort of unofficial soundtrack somewhere which picked all the songs and ambience which weren't there in the OST. I like the freaky ambience of this first log for instance, especially the 3.50 part where it builds up for the Megastructure-song.
I think that this adaptation is severely flawed, however, I do think it for me at least, it works on the merit of its painstaking effort to recreate the illustrations of Nihei, along with its fantastically atmospheric soundtrack, it is definitely not coherent in any way, but I think that its atmosphere is strong enough to watch through the thing.
NO! There won`t be more episodes...These are only "trailers" of the first few logs. But after he saw these trailers, the creator of BLAME! and NOiSE didn`t like the anime version of his manga so he stopped the production.
Aw, I can understand one's creative integrity when others were trying emulate his manga. Wizzu has a really good artstyle that I like. At least one of his manga ended up having a cgi animated ova, Knights Of Sidonia, on Netflix. Also, In-Universe of Sidonia, BLAME! is a tv show... META!
I am here because the Blame manga is wicked and so is anything from Tsutomu Nihei .:) And the sound track for this reminds me of some dreams I’ve had ...... .........’mmm yes indeed .....:)””(.
Biomega is the story of how "the city" came to be. "The city" in blame looks desolate and abandoned, but from what i can tell from reading biomega, it was once a eutopia for everyone living inside. But due to some virus, the city went spiraling out of control and expanded infinitely into space.
I always thought those webisodes are too colorful. Somehow I always pictured the world of BLAME! in almost black-and-white or at least with highly stylized use of color like in SIN CITY for example. Yoshiaki Kawajiri should do a complete BLAME! movie some day but he seems to busy doing HIGHLANDER or NINJA SCROLL 2 or whatever. I will always have the manga I guess.
kemushikun80 I don’t know, I think this animation was basing its colors on the original pre master edition covers, which I don’t think is necessarily better or worse. I’m a staunch believer in the idea that canon isn’t important, what matters is what you take away and want out of a piece of art, if you see blame as black and white than its black and white, if you change your mind and decide its full of bright neons, than its a bright neon nightmare scape, art is what you want it too be. As for me, when I read master edition its blacks, whites, greys, and browns with occasional splashes of color. When I read the original manga, its full of grimey colors that pop.
what the hell!! I've read the first part of the manga and things actually happened! who the hell decided that a 5 min envirnment intro was a good idea anyway?!
They are in fact pretty short and that is, because these seven episodes that contain characters and style of the Manga are only trailers that have been produced to show Tsutomo Nihei the possibilities of a Blame! anime. Unfortunatle he was not content with this realisation, so the series has never been further elaborated.
i read that these animated logs were actually a project to show nihei himself what a possible BLAME! movie/series could look like...thats why its so short, confusing and sometimes different from the manga...(just as note for all the peeps who dont understand it at all^^try the manga...its worth a look :P)
@Bobban it is episode 1 , but you must have on mind that the anime dont have any argument or stucture . Some scnes can be about the last manga numbers but the right nex sene can be the beginig . Some others newer happened in the manga .
These clips are meant as a bonus to the Manga, and should only be taken as such. Do NOT expect any plot in these. They are merely animated (short) scenes from the Manga.

(SPOILERS) They use genes from Ceu (Mensab's guardian, an ancient human), from Cibo and from Sanakan to create a human fetus with the right genes to connect with the Netsphere without alerting the safeguard, therefore a person who will have control over all those enormous artificial builders and will be able to alter the environement to suit human needs, saving humanity from extinction. Killy brings this fetus to the end of the structure (notice the stars over the water) where he or she develops and Killy heals himself. The last panel shows Killy protecting this child, years later, in their way to a connection site. To understand the ending it is useful to read the short story called "Blame 2". English is not my main language but I hope you'll understand what I mean.
stavros Xenias (SPOILERS again) Now that I think of it, Blame! finishes just like it started: Killy protecting the "chosen" child. It makes you wonder if Killy has completed this kind of journey before, like a cybernetic Sisyphus.
the old fashoined visuals, the so in-your-face music and the overall feeling of alienation. i love this anime as much as the manga
I read the manga, and I can confirm that this is a very valid summary of the entire series.

The Netflix movie is actually amazing. Sure, it's abbreviated, but the visuals are amazing, the music, everything. Chef's kiss

KingKamor2 this was such a beautiful and well-written comment. i could not agree with you more
Not even that but the the definition has become extremely diluted and mixed to the point that it means multiple things
Sounds pretty gay.

ah i know tenshi no tamago and that reminds me the same thing but i don't know why he used shadow fish its not even in manga :s
Burak Karabulut it's even the same sort of fish; these are shadows of coelacanths.. clearly a hommage to angel's egg

When you just searched for the Blame! anime but you accidentally dialed the aliens.
4:13 what's the song called?
It surely is not on earth. The Megastructure has a chamber the size of Saturn...
It stated on earth and then expanded indefinitely. At one point the city overtook the moon and kept going
