Thank you for actually listing things that were $0. I find videos like this almost click baitish. A suggestion I would make is have one of your friends come over and “play dress up” with you. Have them style you in your current clothing. They might have a fresh perspective :)
I think layering is a really great way to reintegrate pieces into your wardrobe. I find that once I layer something in one outfit, I immediately start thinking of all the other ways it could fit into different outfits.
Joan Didion's packing list is my current obsession (thanks Mina Le!). It's efficient, elegant, and even if I'm not traveling, picking out 7 pieces I already own (2 skirts, 2 pairs shoes, 2 jerseys or leotards, 1 pullover sweater) feels chic and brand-new when I'm referencing that list.
having a clothing rack helps a LOT when i'm fashionably uninspired. i use mine like a life-sized pinterest board. each week i build a lil capsule wardrobe around a certain aesthetic, and hang up those clothes. and the next week i'll swap in new pieces. plus the rack helps with storage 😉
I love seeing a video like this especially since today is Black Friday! There’s so much pressure to over consume and a no-buy styling video is such a relief.
Oh hey that was me in Lindsey’s vlog 😅 loved this videos and all your tips! I’ve been to two clothing swaps and they were not only fun in general, but seeing your clothes get picked up by someone else with so much excitement is so cool and also picking up a cool and unique item that someone else brought is such a wholesome experience! Even if you leave with just one thing it still feels more special than buying something new.
Adjacent to bonding with clothes, remind yourself to wait out that all-my-clothes-suck feeling. I feel that when I'm tired, pmsing, over-full, or just blah. I usually ending up feeling good in things again when I've managed whatever else is going on. - I got a green cardigan like 8 years ago for Christmas that I did not think was "me" but wore it because it was there and it was simple enough. Now I can't imagine not having it and it's one of my favorites. - Also, love the ideas about true, non-fashiony simplicity,. Agreed.
I do clothing swap with my friends (we call it switch and bitch) since 2006, we are usually 10-12 friends but there is no price, no minimum amount of pieces we "need" to bring .... etc I personnaly think that putting a price or minimum just make it too complicate for nothing .... you should bring clothing that you have no attention of briing back, that you are no longer wearing, its the last stop before secondhand charity shop without thinking twice. our rules are as follow : in a circle, we each present one piece at a time, and we do as much round till every one "showed" all their stuff. If only one person want the piece, it there's right away and if several people are interested we put it in the middle, if no one is interested it goes to the charity shop. Once everyone had showed their stuff we try the clothing that several of the attendies we were interested in. Of course what looked interesting when it was first presented can easily changed once you actually trying it. Once everyone has tried the clothing we take the same pile and call it again and if still there is several people interested in the piece we take a deck of card and the highest card win the piece (and because we are all girls/women the Queen is the highest card LOL) and the hostess have snacks and we drink wine.
irl I always catch myself looking at people with the most simple outfits instead of the straight outta pinterest ones. Love when people dress natural and carefree
I love your idea of making new memories - I actually donated the entire outfit I wore when my cat died, but I think making new, happier memories would have been better
I have always loved simple outfits. Simplicity is so easy - whether dressed up or down. My challenge now (at 54) is a large midsection (hello food😅) and large breasts. I would love to be super simple in a tank with built-in shelf bra and short. However, my body says strap those babies down - no one needs not see those flying in the wind. It is difficult to cultivate an acceptance in your own body to wear things that though simple, may have fight a old thinking of that is not appropriate. So it comes down to so much money on proper fitting undergarments and it is exhausting having to spend that money when you don’t have it. Then you are stuck with ill fitting garment that add to uncomfortableness of looking frumpy or not “how you use to look”. Just have to accept the new body and do your best - at least that is how I feel…..
Finding clothing that is unique that can be layered to anything without doing anything is such a staple in wardrobe. I stopped thrifting now because I don’t like wasting my money that will attract me then over the next year I would’ve not wear it . Simple outfit and styling what u have is such life changer when it’s come to my fashion❤. Send Luvs to u how much relatable ur videos is what I’m looking for. 🤗
