- A "banjolin" is a type of banjo, the 'younger brother' of the tenor banjo. Banjo hybrids normally take their names from the Banjo- prefix, and then the second half of the other instrument's name, such as banjocello and the banjitar, which has led to the belief that the banjolin is a sort of Mandolin/Banjo hybrid. The Banjolin is actually a 'violin banjo'. Fretless banjolins are therefore more likely to crop up. Banjolins should not be confused with the Banjo Ukelele (Ukelele), due to their larger head size and shorter scale length in comparison.

Well done, friend.
Thanks for that mate, I've got one exactly like that I've been saving to work on for quite a while. I think yours is well worth the hundred quid; I've seen them for sale for more than double that. Cheers mate.
I have seen some at £500 plus... but others for as little as £30... I think it is because they are a 'sort of' unknown quantity... someday, they will be re-discovered. I would be interested in seeing how you do yours... make that video. I will subscribe to you and watch for it... :-)
@@LennonLuthierFinagler Thank you, I really appreciate that! It'll be a while before I get around to my banjolin but I think you might find a few other interesting goodies in my back catalogue. Thanks again.
The age is simply mystifying can you imagine the stories that instrument could tell?
I sometimes look at it myself and think that.... there are all sorts of scribblings on the inside of the case that are illegible but mention and Italian style name...
Hi there my wife grandmother recently died. At the age of 97 in Newcastle. And while clearing the house we found what u think is exactly what you are restoring in your awsome video.its took me bloody age's to find what I think is the same instrument. Bye the way i could listen to your soft Irish accent all day .can i send you some pics of the instrument it also has the same case as the one in this video. Is that galvanised ring meant to be split?
Sorry for the delay - yes def. I needs the split to fit to different thickness of cow or sheep hide.
Where can I find the serial number on moly broadway banjolin?
Wow... you will be lucky .... you will probably have to just use 'best guess' for the date.
I have one of them but the the metal bit that holds the skin on the body had split I will contact you on private msge
Peeps. Peaps. Peops. But Pepys? You island peops and your feckin' linguistic manipulations.
That's a right nice lookin' instrument you wound up with there, m'boy. Sounds good, too.
Methinks you may've found your musical vehicle. Yer a natch. Peace. Peece. Piece. Pecys?
LOL - I must tell some Pepys stories... he was a fascinated guy... we used to go out drinking together to the ale houses but he was too much of a womaniser for me. :-) I hope that doesn't give away my age? Where's your book?!

You wear your four-hundred-and-fifty-some-odd years with organic style and casual grace, green jumpsuit and fur collar notwithstanding.
After many laborious weeks and months of sixteen hour days at my desk, with quill in hand and a stack of parchment the height of the Manhattan telephone directory, I am happy to report that I just finished the final paragraph of my Southern Gothic tale of tragedy and redemption; now all I have to do is figure out what to write before that paragraph . . .
