Lennon Luthier & Georgie Girl
Великобритания
Добавлен 1 апр 2017
I am the charity Luthier - I fix guitar, banjos and ukes, etc... I don't charge (except for parts) but I ask clients to donate to my favourite animal charity Assisi Animal Shelter in Bangor County Down. I don't ask my clients to donate a particular amount and I don't ask them to donate in my name; I leave the choice to them AFTER they get their guitar back. (Yes, it's called trust.)
By the way, you can donate too... it's simple.

After trying to play guitar, for 50 years, and discovering that I repair them better than I play them... here I am. This ain't for money... No such thing as a rich man who repairs guitars... I just love guitars. The image is of 'my baby'... a Gretsch... it looks mighty purty.

My tribute to George Harrison's Rocky Guitar - it turned out better than I thought! It's great!
Has to be the most recognisable and famous of all guitars... Rocky first appeared in all its colourful glory on one of the world’s first satellite broadcasts in 1967. The Beatles performed “All You Need Is Love” on a groundbreaking program called Our World, and Rocky shined brightly.
Rocky was mainly reserved for studio and recording use in the remaining Beatles years, featuring on more iconic tracks like “Strawberry Fields Forever” and “Hey Jude”. However, post-Beatles Harrison made much more use of it on stage.
It was in those last few Beatles years, around ’69-’70 that George began playing slide styles on Rocky. In fact, he learned from accomplished guitarist Ry Cooder, who taught him to...

Are Harley Benton Guitars good for experienced players? Absolutely! So the first thing to know about me, I am not a brand snob. I like anything that sounds good and plays well. If it doesn’t tick those two boxes I don’t want to use it. I have recently had a chance to play and own a lot of higher end guitars and the Harley Benton CST-24T guitars are as nice as anything out there. This is a guita...

Genial!! I have a Satellite 65 T restaured, a so tiny model...and sound well....
It was maybe flood damaged and the pickups were ok so they changed the pots to get it working again. I think it's genuine. Good luck.
I had a Fender Musicmaster Bass which was a 3/4 scale, very similar to that although the knobs were through the Scratchboard. It didn't have the metal plate with the knobs on the front. The colour is spot on and the neck plate. But why would anyone sand off a genuine Fender logo from the head and not replace it with anything?🤔 Edit: After looking at a few images, it's a Jazz Bass.
Been looking at 12 strings, I think I’m going with this one, same color as well.
20:57 I have one which plays ok, I'm waiting to see what yours sounds like. Mine is Black Strat with a White Scratch Board and Maple neck, but I kinda like the natural wood colour. I'm not bothered that the wood grains don't match up, I wonder "who the hell's gonna be looking there?" . Last point, surely it's the tunes you play on it, unless it's murdering songs that you can play well ,that determins whether you like it.🤔 Mine was £50 brand new, with a bag, stand, amp, strap ,lead and 3 Picks. It's never been abused so not dented and is cleaned regularly and still looks like new. What else can you get for £50 that gives 20 years of pleasure? 🤔 A Tattoo of a naked lady.(Might be the only girl that'll stay on our arm for 20years)😂😂
my low E string vibrates against the bridge tailpiece (silver part) where it feeds through the string hole...it's as if the bridge tail piece itself needs to be at a higher angle off the guitar. The low E string is not centered in the hole it feeds through - too close to the top of the hole and thus it vibrates against it. any ideas?
Amazing guitar well done
I have a 97 USA strat and the lacquer started peeling on the neck within a few years. Ended up stripping it. If you’re careful you can do it without damaging the logo as it sits beneath the lacquer or at least mine did
Absolutely Brilliant. I have one but didn't know where to start renovating , I do now. Thank you.
Im going to buy this guitar today!
LOVE IT!
Great job sir
This is the first video of yours that i have watched and you are pretty entertaining so i think i will subscribe 😊
Great video, keep them coming Austen. Thanks.
The problem I’m having is I want to play more acoustically. So I removed all of that piezo stuff, I have a new saddle to shape. Now there is no place for the saddle to sit except the top of the guitar body. “The saddle slot is a through hole” is it ok to let the saddle be in contact with the body?
Yes 100 percent. But don't allow it to put too much pressure on the body but it should be fine
There is a brass insert “missing” that the wire was soldered to, the saddle sits inside the insert and snugs it up in the bridge. There is a fiberglass shim that the brass insert sits on between that & the body.
I have one of these bought for my daughter and am trying to get a decent sound from it. You say you might shim the neck. What effect would that have and how thick a shim?
You need to let me know whether the strings are too high from the neck or are they too low from the neck. As far as far as a shim is concerned it's just a matter of trying your luck on using a thicker or slimmer piece as you go. You can do no harm because you're not making any permanent changes to the guitar.
They really were great guitars for the price back then, great company support too. I owned one but wish I hadn't sold it now.
I’m watching these videos to learn how to become a better professional and I didn’t like the skipping of important information. Example would be the math equation to calculate the right amount of removal for the bridge and nut. And the parts that you skipped because of Judgement. I’m looking for an instructor.
Hi Mark. When I started making videos a couple of years ago, I didn't think anybody would be watching them, but since then, I have learnt that people do watch them and hate the fact that I would skip over bits. I presumed that they would be bored by the constant repetition of some aspects of the work I do. It is a fine line between driving people nuts with tiny details and keeping people interested... I am still working on that aspect and failing miserably. All I can say is that I try.... :-) sorry.
@@LennonLuthierFinagler don’t be sorry we are both trying to learn and be better at it. Thank You for reading and replying to my advice and information.
Very Cool, Thankyou. Guitar Looks and Sounds awesome. Big George Harrison fan here too. All the Best. Cheers
That’s not a 98 Jackson, the DK2M is from 2006-2009
You're right... I had a lot of trouble defining the year until he end of the video... hence the 1998? question mark....
Hi there, I’ve just bought this lovely guitar of a Guy in Bangor. Thank you for bringing it back to life……it’s still great and sounds awesome. I think I’ll keep it tuned a full step down and capo at the 2nd fret. Can I ask what strings you used and what you would recommend? Many thanks again for a great job Mark
Brilliant - love to hear the travels of the guitar I worked on... Personally, for my guitars, I use Ellxer... but I am not certain what I used on this...
Thanks Austin, What gauge do you think works best?
@@markthompson9684 If you're a guy that wants a guitar to last forever, gauge 6... or cotton threads... LOL - but I would stick with 10s because there is so much stress on the neck the thicker the strings.... it's a great idea to use a capo on the 2nd fret... but watch that the capo doesn't dent the back of the neck...
I'm looking forward to my Luther friend rebuilding my 1968 Eros 12....now I know the pain he'll be suffering I'd say the one you failed on is in great condition compared 😂
Keep up the good work sir!
Just bought one in great shape from goodwill for 15 bucks. Put on some new strings and set it up correctly and it actually plays very nicely(not kidding!) ....its built as well as any squier strat thats out there. Probably was made at the same factory. I really like the cheap little thing alot!
great work!!!
maximum bone width please?
brilliant intro, now I will watch the rest
thanks Paolo.... they are made for fun...
What type of wood is on the fretboard? It never appeared. Thanks.
My first guitar age 14 was a Satellite les paul copy. It was horrendous but all I knew back then. The neck had been broken and glued back on by the previous owner and there was a screw in the middle of the 1st fret on the A string. Very difficult to play on. I assumed it was because I was just destined to not be very good. 35 years later, last year I started learning about guitar modding, soldering, set ups and put some effort into resurrecting it as it had not been used in over 30 years, and was broke/not working. New electronics, pots, knobs, tuners, bridge, switch and pick up covers, a proper set up of the neck, polish, new nut, truss rod adjustment. Now it plays better than it’s ever done in its life. Still has the screw in the first fret.
If you're gonna take jobs working on guitars with a Floyd Rose you need to learn how to service and use them. 95% of the hate on FR generally comes from user error. I'll say the JT580LP is not the best Floyd, I did change it on mine, but it does the work for a number of years if you don't do stupid stuff. Also nobody cares it's called a Dinky, speaking from experience here. Nice work otherwise
as you see from my videos I do stupid stuff all the time.... :-)
I can't tell you how happy I am that, that was not my guitar. No protection it while moving that piece of wood around all over the back and using super glue to make a repair. Not an easy fix, but still you have to protect the guitar while you work on it and use the right kind of glue. Hate on me all you want. I'm just sayin.....
Why on earth would I hate on you? I am old school you have an opinion, and you were not rude. I argue for people to have opinions, so your opinion is very valid. I actually agree with you, but may I put some context on your comments? The owner didn't want the hole fixed at all and was ready to dump it. The work I do is all free, and the fix could have been done much better, yes, but I don't do 'woodwork' fixes and have a go. Finally, my channel is for a pet charity, and I do not charge but encourage a donation, and I put up all fixes, good or bad. That means I tend to get many guitars that would never see a luthier as they are too cheap to do expensive fixes on, so I have a go. Keep commenting.... seriously...
@@LennonLuthierFinagler Yep not trying to be rude, and I get what you are saying about the value of the guitar, but I just would have liked to have seen more on how you got that repair wood in there and square to the curve and I would have used wood clue. That's a very hard place to work at for sure
Ive got the same model it never comes with frt 2000 , it comes with sh2 in neck and takeuchi jt580 lp floyd (same as yours with the srews on the saddles) , Never had frt 2000 on pro series at all. On US models only.
Nice gift. The dots are actually in the correct place. (3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 12th frets.) :
Been playing with Floyds since the early 80's, the lock nut caps were on right in the first place. You put them on wrong. Look it up. As far as the bridge saddles go, they come in different heights to accommodate for the radius. It's possible, someone took them off at some point and didn't return them in the proper orientation.
I don't get that.... the bottom of the lock nuts are perfectly flat... I watched videos and am no wiser....
I think he's called Mr. Queen nowadays! Nice guitar.
thank you.i am currently learning repairwork and have been gifted a similar instrument with some major top damage.my first mandolin resto.appreciate you sharing your knowledge.

:-) be done with you thrice over and forsuth. :-)
Excellent video! I see the vintage white version for $539.99. Very tempting! I like that it's made in Korea, not China. Say no to slave labor. FYI: They make two versions of the same semi-hallow guitar. One with the F cutout hole, and one without. The strange thing is, the version without the cutout hole looks like a solid body, but it is still semi-hallow inside. Usually the same pice: $599.99. The one I am looking at is on sale, that's why it's lower. Pretty sure I'll get it. I prefer the cool look of that F cutout hole, regardless of whether it really makes a difference in the sound.
I second all your points.
You still have this? Does this sound good still?
Great video and a lovely cat. I'll be checking out a '66 Martin mandolin near me in the next few days. Looks to be in great shape, needs a new bridge and I don't love that it has Kluson tuners, not a real fan of those (especially as they age). Keep up the good work, liked and subscribed!
Don't hang it on the wall - play it! It's a lovely guitar and NEEDS to be played.
Play it from time to time and just enjoy existing as a musician. Love the channel and hope you and your wee companion are good.
Beautiful Gretsch and always enjoy watching you work on and take care of guitars. It sounds like you are very happy with that guitar so I wouldn’t sell it.
