    Love it..the only thing I would have done differently is making the waterfall counter deeper and adding a sheer fabric curtain to the front (mounted under the top of the counter) so when there is actual party, no one would see the washer and dryer.

    • @theblogauthority
      @theblogauthority 5 лет назад +1

      Yes.. I had ideas along that same line. With a curtain rod and grommet top curtains to pull across the W & D when using the room to entertain.

      I totally agree...also, I would have nixed the stripes. The gray paint with the white trim against the rustic brick was already a perfect backdrop to the reno.

    Beautiful room. I have done the alternative dispenser thing but would not recommend it as soap residue on glass (no pour spout so it WILL go down the side)makes for accidents of the breakable kind. Nothing worse than cleaning up a wet laundry detergent spill lol. Just buy a large laundry bottle and a small of the same brand, use the small bottle and store it in the basket up at the top to hide it, when it is used up, refill and then store the big bottle in a tall wicker round basket and place it next to the laundry center. I am so loving this room though!

  • @JmarieD

    I love the transformation but would have done a few things differently. Not a fan of the stripes but not so bad once broken up by the shelf etc. I probably would have added curtains to the front of the machines. Lastly, I felt like the shelf extending beyond the door is a bad idea during entertainment. It should have been angled. Someone's bound to get a corner on the belly when it's raised this way. Hats off to Alan for stepping up and rebuilding such a great space in such a stricken place. He has hope and faith in the community.

    Nice build, like laundry rooms that are "done". Not a fan of the free hand painting on the walls, just not my thing. The laundry detergent in a pretty container is a great idea, but not in a carafe, it has not top on it & for entertaining, always a chance for a spill. A drink dispenser with a pour nozzle would have been a better idea, they come in a large sizes, for lemonade & ice tea, all styles, plastic or glass.

  • @Mel-sp3xi

    TBH, I just don't care for the free-handed stripes. I think if they were just done with painter tape and farther apart it would've looked so cool! Bc some of the stripes are so wide they're almost touching in some areas so u made the ends really thin in some spots. LOL My OCD can't stop looking at how uneven they're. 😂 besides that, great job!

    I totally get the mud room, laundry room, "entertainment"... area! We have a mud room/laundry room and it is accessed by guests to exit to the pool and back yard, and the only bathroom in our farm house is accessed from that room. I've always thought it would be nice to have a welcoming, drop zone, ...not just a pass through. I can't wait to see the end!

  • @elizabethocallahan4417
    @elizabethocallahan4417 6 лет назад +1

    Love this. We built a set of cubbies for the wall and put everything in pretty baskets similar to this.
    Underneath, I have hooks that fold up from Ikea.
    This isn't a good idea if you have children, but we put our laundry pods in a mason jar mostly for ease of access, but I think it looks great too!
    Because we bought a fixer-upper, some of the original beadboard in the wall was missing, so we added a back and some trim and turned it into a built-in between the studs. I wouldn't do this with an undamaged wall, but I definitely appreciate that little bit of extra space!

    You ARE INCREDIBLE! The space is beautiful, but more important (to me) is that I now know what to do with my laundryroom which is in my KITCHEN: What I LOVE about your designs, is that they are DOABLE, even for someone like me. I've wanted a laundry shoot in my house for years! My childhood neighbors had one. I have an older home and the stairs to the basement laundry are very narrow so I carry the laundry down without a basket and think a laundry shoot that falls into a laundry basket on wheels with a hanging rod would be awesome!!! Monica and crew do great work. I've loved her since her Knock if Off series!

      I don't know. My cousin sent me down one at my grandmother's when I was about two! I wasn't terrified, but while I wasn't home alone, I was alone in the dirty clothes catching cabinet, under the laundry shute for awhile, until they found me!
      I think they are great, and I would build one, but it would be hard to make one too small to send a two-year-old down. My grandmother's was a metal box between the toilet and the wall, about a foot in either direction, if I remember correctly. A hinged metal lid lifted up to send the clothes down the shute, to the basement. Beneath the lid, the shute was a couple of feet long, then turned a little away from the wall. I think a ductwork builder may have put it together. The receiving place was a wooden cabinet built into the wall, but some go directly into a basket on a folding table ot a rolling wooden cart. The footprint of the bathroom was not near the laundry, which had to be built near a sump, but at least it took care of the problem of getting the laundry downstairs.

    I see a lot of comments on here giving the transferring of the laundry products into other containers a thumbs down because Monica used glass and that’s not safe, etc. You obviously wouldn’t do this in homes where there’s kids and it’s not really necessary if your laundry room isn’t visible to guests. I think Monica’s idea was to creatively find a way to conceal or hide laundry products when they’re in spots people will see them a lot. It doesn’t have to be glass, it just had to be clever.

    Hey Monica!! Great work.... But I was wondering that why washer and dryer are visible. I felt that it should be hidden and should have given some glass / mirror finish like a full pack storage area kind. And bar place looks so small. I love your work but just wanted to add some points.

      I suspect that room looks bigger than it is because of the camera angle trying to catch it all. Kind of like they use in real estate home interior shots. I get the letting the washer and dryer being part of the decor. They are modern and well maintained. People would know, regardless of whats under a frilly curtain or a flap, there is a washer and dryer there. Might as well incorporate it into the design. I think it looks cool myself.

    I wasn't totally getting on board with the party spot. But in the end I was able to get out of my head and it amazed me. Great design!

    This is the best looking masculine laundry ever and great projects to be used outside of the laundry room.

    It looks great, I would have just extended the wood above the washer and dryer to completely cover it and add either curtains or sliding doors to hide everything.

      Exactly. I thought the washer and dryer were going to be cleverly hidden from view to make the space NOT look like a laundry room. I was wrong but it gave me an idea on how to easily cover a washer and dryer.

    Awesome ideas here. We also have a laundry area in a walkthrough space. You walk past the washer and drier to get to the study and I've always been ashamed of it. Those storage ideas are fantastic, prettying up the are by using baskets and other containers. It's so obvious, but I never thought of that. Thanks. Addicted to this show. After watching EVERYTHING twice on Great Home Ideas I've been looking for another channel like this.

    Great Video and makeover! However, I think the transfer of the laundry detergents/clean supplies to more nice looking containers is a really bad idea. This is because those materials are toxic so their labels are really important. Imagine if a small kid got a hold of those and thought they were safe to eat as a result. Those bottles often have things like "what to do incase of consumption". Alternatively, I think storing the containers themselves in a nice storage bin so they are hidden would be a safer alternative.

    Those short screws in the end grain of plywood for the piano hinge makes me question long-term durability.
    I know they used a ton of screws, but...

    I love the stripes, and for New Orleans, it has a French connection, if you'll excuse the expression. They look like the wallpaper in an impressionist painting. They could be Monet or Van Gogh, or even back before impressionism, to Delacroix. I remember seeing his painting of a bachelor's apartment, with some loose, blue stripes on the wall or somewhere. That's what they make me think of. The young man has used crisp lines in his own decorating work, so having the looser, freehand stripes, loosens it up, and softens it a bit, which seems really appropriate for a laundry entertainment room in New Orleans.

    Totally impressive! Is there any space that Monica cannot come up with super great alteration ideas for? Allen's idea for a "three-in-one" room = top-notch thinking! Like Allen, I wondered about the painted line idea; however, it gives a unique look...although, personally this gal would rather NOT have them. That home is lovely!

    I wasn't sure about the stripes, but it turned out whimsical and almost circus-like, a fun aspect of the party laundry room.

    My fiance and I just moved, and our laundry room is HUGE. We actually talked about making it a mudroom/playroom for the kids, so this gives us a little bit of a guide...just take away the alcohol and add juice boxes!!

    My boyfriend & I just moved into an apartment with a washer/dryer inside the apartment... we’ve been here for roughly two months. My boyfriend hasn’t hardly even been in the laundry room since we moved. 😂 I love doing laundry!
