I love the logical conclusion you've come to between these machines..In my experiences I've found that the biggest upgrade one could make is from single boiler vibratory pump,to a dual boiler rotary pump..The rotary pump delivers much better and consistent pressures..Coffee is so subjective and if you are a person that primarily uses the same med/dark roast beans or even the same bean period or if you primarily drink milk based drinks, then you're probably going to find that you're getting diminishing returns after spending so much more on a machine or even a grinder..
I think that most people who fall into the category I listed would do fine with a Gaggia Classic Pro and a Smart Grinder Pro or Rancilio Rocky etc..But like I stated above, there does seem to be a significant difference between a single boiler vibratory pump machine and a dual boiler rotary pump machine..Even a heat exchanger machine is an upgrade..

I think how much you will be able to enjoy the benefits of this machine depends upon how often you switch beans and want to dial them in to your taste preferences or play around with different style shots.
If you generally are already in a good temperature range, don’t struggle with channeling and are able to pull decent shots (which also largely depends on the grinder you have), you will not see a huge increase in shot quality. However, if you struggle with channeling and shots are overly sour or bitter even though you‘re able to produce a shot according to recipe, dialing down pressure will decrease channeling and having more certainty about temperature will give you more control over shot quality.
Still, I agree that temperature is really a lower ranked factor for me as well. I have a group thermometer on my E61 machine and also I don’t taste much of a difference as long as the temperature is not sub 88 or above 95 degrees centigrade.

Just to clarify your video about the Go being a resource hog, before steaming you do indeed have to do two 5-second purges, but these purges are NOT done through the group, they are done through the steam wand. I use a pyrex measuring cup for this and once the water cools off I pour it back in the water tank. So bottom line, it doesn’t waste excess water and it doesn’t require you to empty your drip tray more often. I also upgraded from a Gaggia Classic Pro and I’m very happy with my decision, mostly because I can now drink lighter roast coffees (which I prefer) with confidence that they are being brewed at a higher temperature. There are also several programming features that I believe make this machine more pleasurable to use. And then there are the aesthetics, which of course are subjective, but I find the Go to be a more robust, more industrial and generally better looking machine than the Classic. Is it worth 2x the price? It’s still under $1,000. To me, definitely yes.

The PID, the gauge, the OPV adjustment are all very nice features that, I agree, probably aren't that useful. For me, the selling point is the boiler size. Going from 100ml to 400ml means more pressure and for longer than my GCP. After the OPV upgrade to my GCP, keeping the boiler full at the time of steaming is a pain in my ass and I don't feel like dealing with it anymore.

  • @ThatOneGuy71069
    @ThatOneGuy71069 Год назад +16

I have it and has been the best upgrade imaginable from the classic pro. Light roast coffee comes through so much more clear! PID and pressure adjustment are HUGE quality of life upgrades. I get that not everybody will use them or understand how those small changes can have a major impact on the flavor and mouthfeel of your shots so they feel. Stepping into a completely metal water path and brass boiler with the features mentioned already and you cant find anything in this price range that even remotely compares. At this price point its hard to compete and the classic pro is not even playing the same game.

That's very subjective and really depending's on a lot of factors: roast level/freshness, grinder quality, grinding size. For us... No our shots tasted the same between Gaggia and Profitec, but from a entry level automatic machine to manual espresso machines, I'd say you will in general elevate the espresso taste due to the fact they use proper size portafilters.

Have you had any performance issues with the GO (as far as things not working properly or service related)? I think I'm going to go with the GO over the GCP. This is a pretty specific “review” from your limited use case.
Implying that brewing pressure and temperature don’t impact taste is misleading to say the least. A larger boiler will take far longer to heat up, this this not surprising. Water usage on the GO is not more than any other single boiler. Purging a steam arm does not fill up a drip tray. Workflow on the GO is much faster than on a Gaggia…
I’m just a little confused by the information you’re putting out to perspective buyers.

Thank you for your input, yes this is indeed a "personal opinion video" based on specific usage pattern of our household, if someone else is somehow in the same shoe as me, upgrading to this machine had not improved neither the speed nor taste of espresso drinks for us.

  • @danieldougan269

A PID is great, but I am not much of a tinkerer when it comes to espresso. I just want it to work normally out of the box...9 bars of pressure and an appropriate temperature every time. Set it and forget it.
The new Evo Pro brews at 9 bars out of the box, so you don't have to mod it and risk voiding your warranty. I am not sure about the temperature since there’s no PID, but A) it's much cheaper than the Profitec Go and B) you can always add a PID later if you want to and still come out ahead in terms of cost.
The Profitec Go looks like an excellent machine, but the price is a bit steep by comparison. If it were $700 instead of $1000, it might be worth it.

Do you notice a bend in the middle bottom of the machine? I think there's a design flaw with how the drip tray shell attaches to the body of the main unit. It's built like a toaster using formed sheet metal, so the weight from the front of the unit is torquing against the somewhat thin metal that the tray shell is screwed into.

What exactly is happening to your Profitec Go? Have you contacted Profitec or your reseller? I have one and noticed that when I put the Portafilter in and turn it, the top of the machine kind of twists as if the metal cabinet might not be thick/strong enough. As a beginner and looking for my first espresso machine, the Profitec Go seems appealing.
    Reasons:
    1. Profitec build quality reputation.
    2. If I can set the temp and know that the pressure is correct, then it would be down to me dialing in my coffee. In this way, I could have some consistency with my shots. I understand that there are other variables.

This leaves it in no-man's-land between a Gaggia and a Lelit MaraX. The latter which upgrades you up to an HX machine with flow control and can be had for only a little bit more money than the Profitec.

Not a little bit where I’m from. The Lelit Mara is $3800 NZD the Profitec Go is $2000 NZD. They produce exactly the same shots. Steaming is better on the Mara and it has a hot water dispenser. It would probably do better at 3+ back to back milk drinks. Go has better build quality, an accurate PID with timer and heats up in 30% of the time. The Mara is simply not worth the extra $. For me it’s the Profitec Go or just all out for a Bianca.
