While I am impressed by the skills and discipline a ballet dancer acquires, I have heard stories of dancers being sorely mistreated by ballet companies and/or teachers, to the point where their mental and emotional health is damaged. And all for what, to dance well? These are people, not circus animals (animals shouldn't be treated like that, either). While I don't disagree with acquiring discipline to perform certain skills for a career, I still disagree that such things could come at such a high cost. While I know that's probably not the case for all of them, my heart goes out to any ballet dancers going through these struggles.

I don’t know how old she is, but as a former ballet dancer, the risk to permanent foot and ankle injury from pointe at too young an age is a real risk. Best of luck to her, and here’s hoping she has a long and healthy dance career.
Yes, you are so right. I don't understand how people don't know this. It's the same thing as teaching 9 and 10 year old boys how to throw a curve ball 😢
@@christinemize-iq6um I’ll preface this by saying I'm a former extensively trained pre-professional dancer *[the older girls, at the very least, from MBA are at the pre-professional level/a part of MBA’s pre-professional program/company],* just to give some context. There are some essential things to always keep in mind when it comes to this particular topic. While age plays a factor in whether or not a girl is ready for pointe, it’s not as important as many people seem to think it is. There are two things that determine whether or not a girl is ready for pointe: *A:* has her growth plates fully developed, which is something that a doctor will *[at least they should and any good ballet teacher/instructor will make sure that happens]* determine through x-rays, and *B:* is she strong enough. You can't gauge whether or not someone’s growth plates have fully developed by just their age. For example, I *[I’ll be 36 in October, which means this goes back many years ago, so keep in mind that things have only advanced since then]* started pointe at 9 years old. I had to have my doctor check to see if my growth plates were fully developed through x-rays *[which they were]* and sign off on it before getting my first pair of pointe shoes and starting my pointe training. I was in the highest-level classes *[ballet/pointe, modern, jazz, and tap]* at my pre-professional dance company’s studio by the time I was 11 *[I think I might have been 10 by the time I was in the highest tap class-we’re not talking about tap, though, although, it’s a fantastic way of strengthening the ankles, lol]* and promoted from the second company to the first company at 10 years old after only 1 year in the second company. Sharing all that is not a way to “brag,” “boast,” or anything remotely similar; I shared it to give perspective. Now, everyone is not me *[obviously],* so I'm not saying that what my journey was is some standard, especially since there is more that goes into someone’s progression/advancement than just strength and growth plate development. What I am saying is that every girl’s journey is different, including when her growth plates fully develop and when she becomes strong enough for pointe work. Ultimately, a girl’s age is not what is important here unless we’re talking about toddlers going on pointe, which is just insane to even think about, lol. I see *countless* people place so much focus on *[as far as expressing their concern or disapproval]* a younger girl’s age when it comes to her being on pointe, and just people who purposefully or inadvertently spread the idea that age is a determining factor, which usually goes hand-in-hand with people throwing a “general” age out there for when a girl is ready for pointe, and that includes from professional dancers, which is even wilder to me. I imagine the reason for this is that so many people take what is said to be the “average age” for when people’s growth plates fully develop/form *[which I can guarantee someone could easily find online]* and take it as the gospel when it is far more complex/complicated and nuanced than just age.
Oh, no. She’s not a “mini Melanie”. She’s her very own person! No need to compare her to anyone else! And from the looks of it, she’s apt to go as far as her heart wants her to go! Stunning work, young lady!!!

I love how so many people assume that these girls starve themselves just because they’re skinny in these comments 🤦🏻 yes SOME ballerinas do, but that doesn’t mean they all do, they’re probably burning off more fat/calories than they’re consuming due to their practices/classes, this is a high intensity job/skill set and they’re constantly pushing their bodies, they could be perfectly healthy for all you know, you only see 30-60 second clips into their training not even their lives. just bc they’re skinny does not mean they’re starving themselves
That’s also about balance the diet and the performance itself. Sometimes. Do control of diet makes them easier to achieve the better performance as the body feel lighter. They know their body what they need
