@@John-sr2hr Carl's got the best development, went from bullying his whole school and melting toys in the microwave oven to finding a good role model in the sergeant and aiming to be better. Too bad the sergeant didn't return as a character when the dude finally became a cop
Lip had to get special motivation >2 times to finish school (from Fiona and that professor with the old mercedes), had Karen demolish his spirit 2 times or so due to his obsession of his with her în the first few seasons, became an alcoholic, and doesn't value people who try to help him improve or care about about him (e.g. Mandy, professor with the mercedes and the girl who painted his colege dorm room cant remember her name). He had a happy ending with Tami tho
Ian, even if he is mentally ill and has few flaws, has had Monica influence him multiple times and can't accept others' guidance to calm down and take a break whenever he gets manic. Also not everyone handles the fact that he's gay too well I suppose, honestly I am neutral about it as long as it's not his main trait (the way netflix would do it), the way he handles his bipolar is in my opinion a better focus for his character storywise. For example the gay Jesus arc was great , seeing his stunts become more and more crazy and unhinged
Liam was a toddler for most of the series so only in the later half of the series does he gain some characterization. He was easily corrupted by Frank to help in his schemes and had that identity crisis thing for a season but otherwise he was a Lip-Frank hybrid who managed his friends basketball career and could easily become the kind of genius Lip was too bothered to be in the first half of the series

Adding an alcohol addiction and the teacher affair was the cherry on the cake. But after getting sober, youens' dui, having saved brad and becoming a father he's become his best self
