  • Hey, just another Meshuggah cover featuring my self-modded Peavey 6506mh.
Gear used for guitar tone (in this particular order):
    - Ibanez RG8 with D Activator
    - Klark Teknik DN200 active DI Box
    - Steinberg UR44 Interface
    - Reaper
    - Radial JCR ReAmp Box
    - Peavey 6505mh (heavily modded)
    - 1x12 K100 cabinet
    - Sure sm57
    - all this 4 times for tasty quad tracks
Bass: DIY P-Bass into Klark Teknik DN200 into NeuralDSP Parallax
Concerning the mod, once I'm finally really satisfied with the sound of that amp I'm going to release some schematics. Shouldn't be too far in the future, but I already said exactly the same last year... but stay tuned! It's awesome!

That guitar looks incredible. I’m assuming it’s a modded RG8. I’d love a breakdown/ walkthrough on the process of modding it. I love that ash top.

Thanks a lot :) it's indeed a modded RG8 which i stripped from all its black paint using a heat gun, scraper and an orbital sander. Propably cracked the body by the heat, but placed a screw through the neck pocket so I guess it's fine now. Closed the neck PU pocket with some scrap wood and glued a veneer of black and white ebony to the sanded body by applying and slightly drying a thin layer of wood glue to veneer and body, then using an iron to connect and glue both together. Stained and lacquered everything afterwards, and thats basically it. Was a lot of fun!

Great playing and tone mate! Love how you modded the RG8 and was wondering how you managed to hide the neck PU hole so nicely? Did you put a veneer top on the body in order to cover up where you filled in the second pickup? Also I've never seen a sanded down finish "pop" as much as yours. Did you stain the body with a black stain coat first and sand it down before applying the red coats? Sorry for bombarding you with questions, I'm about to mod an RG8 myself and am currently considering my options. Cheers!

hey, thanks alot! :) the neck PU hole is filled by solid wood, and then covered by veneer. that veneer is called called royal white ebony by designholz.com, but i don't really know if thats actually ebony or just some sort of composite SeRaiFO wood veneer... the visible grain comes all by the wood itself, i just applied yellow and red stain.

@@le0_fx Awesome, thanks a lot for the info! Never would have thought about applying a veneer, but seeing as the stripped down mahogany/poplar body won't be as "aesthetic" in terms of the wood grain, I'll give designholz a try (: Vielen Dank und schönen Abend!

what did you mod on the peavy mh??

    • @le0_fx
      @le0_fx  4 года назад +1

alot on the preamp, and small things in the power amp. revoiced most of the tube stages for tighter, high-mid-focused gain, swapped the negative feedback stage for a cathode follower. installed a master volume knob, second gain knob, seperate volume for crunch channel, choke for power filtering, increased the corner frequency of the presence control. going to post schematics soon!
