We have several cats that pass through our neighborhood nightly. They occasionally lounge out on the deck in my backyard. I haven't seen even one mouse or rat in our alley in the 3 years I've been living there. The cats are doing a great job!!!!!

Please remove poison bait before letting the cats roam free

I hope they vaccinated the cats. All they said was they're spayed and neutered. They need to realize the cats will get massive worms & fleas. They need to do the right thing & treat them.

As long as people don't feed the feral cats. I assumed that program didn't work in Chicago, till a female cat got pregnant and started killing rats and squirrels to feed her kittens.

    • @angiem3484
      @angiem3484 Год назад

They should be fixed and fed. Many "feral" cats were abandoned.

@joec9894 cats can take them down when it's kitten time hence the dead rats and squirrels I found. One almost killed our full grown pet rabbit when I was a child.

Hopefully this was already an established colony.

Poison cannot choose its victim, feral cats can and are fantastic at getting rid of rats. On the farm we had one 6 pound mama cat that would kill a rat twice her size. We had great rodent control with the ferals.

Whats going to happen to the cats, when all of your rodent problems are solved, and the cats have no food to eat? And, is that area an established calony? Are you just using the cats to clean up your rats?

That's disgusting. Poor kitties. Using them to do the dirty work. Too cheap to get rid of the rats.

I hope that they are feeding them cats cat food and water to drink and eat. They are not born to eat rats, but play with it, torcher it and kills it with their claws. They are born house cats, not wild cats.

Cats are mousers. Dogs are for catching rats.

Don't dogs lack the speed and agility of a cat?
I love dogs but they are kinda "clumsy". Plus not sure we can have a group of dogs running wild.

Only certain small dogs will chase rodents. These dogs that people baby and put in little sweaters and shirts aren't going to be chasing any rats.

@@jlv3x Several small dog breeds were originally bred to hunt rats and other small vermin. These breeds were often used in urban settings, farms, and mills to control rat populations. Here are some of the most notable rat-hunting breeds:
Rat Terrier: As the name suggests, the Rat Terrier was specifically bred for ratting. They are agile, alert, and have a strong prey drive.
Jack Russell Terrier: This energetic breed was developed in England for fox hunting, but they are also excellent ratters.
Manchester Terrier: Originally bred in Manchester, England, this breed was used to hunt rats in the city's mills.
Miniature Schnauzer: While they are now popular as companion dogs, Miniature Schnauzers were originally bred in Germany to hunt rats on farms.
Cairn Terrier: Originating from the Scottish Highlands, Cairn Terriers were used to hunt vermin hiding in cairn piles.
Yorkshire Terrier: Despite their current reputation as lap dogs, Yorkies were originally bred to catch rats in mines and mills in Yorkshire, England.
Dachshund: While not as small as some of the other breeds on this list, Dachshunds were bred in Germany to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals, including rats.
Norwich Terrier and Norfolk Terrier: Both of these small terrier breeds were used for ratting on farms.
Welsh Terrier: Originating in Wales, this breed was used to hunt foxes, badgers, and rats.
Fox Terrier (Smooth and Wire): These breeds were developed in England and were used for fox hunting as well as ratting.
Bedlington Terrier: With a unique lamb-like appearance, Bedlingtons were bred to hunt rats and other small vermin.
Sealyham Terrier: Originating in Wales, this breed was used for hunting small game, including rats.
It's important to note that while these breeds have a history of hunting rats, many of them are now primarily companion animals. However, their instinctual prey drive can still be observed in some dogs, especially when they are around small moving objects or animals. If you're considering getting one of these breeds and have other small pets, it's essential to ensure they are introduced properly and supervised.
