I am so touched, comforted, generally blown away by your kindness. I really don't know what to say. Also, I've seen some of you having made contributions to your local community cat orgs in Alex' name. Again, mind blowing. Much love to all of you.

I hate, I really really HATE those people who say "its just an animal". Its a breathing soul like you and me. I respect life a lot. I cant even kill bugs because I now its a living being and it would literally make me feel like a murderer.

What's worse, in all my years of caring for the forgotten cats of this world, it's not only "just an animal ... it's always been "just a cat". I, and people like me, have been fighting for decades to change that. And it's getting better, ALL thanks to this big ol' guy who looks like an "outlaw biker" ... The Cat Daddy. He's really made a huge difference in how cats are treated 💞💕💗
And you, keep being who you are - we need people just like you 💖 Compassion is the most important thing in life.

Hello Jackson and everyone. I lost my stray cat Fluff today. He was almost fully black w/some white on his paws, chest and belly w/green eyes. He choose me to be his caretaker about 3 years ago by just showing up at my door in very poor shape. I watched my green eye baby put on good weight on and get a beautiful shiny coat after some good eating. He loved getting pets and being brushed. He was my sweet boy. Last week he started to barely eat and couldn't stand up w/out wobbling. I gave him all kinds of people food just to get him to eat. Tuna was the winner, but this week he refused to eat at all. I called the Vet to take him, but he never came back and he never missed seeing me or a meal before. I know in my heart he is gone and I will miss him terrible. I already do. Goodbye me sweet boy Fluff. Thank you for coming in my life and picking me to be your human. I love you always and will miss you. Your adopted Mommy - Melody.

Thanks for this - I recently lost my "somewhere in between cat Claude" He had been someones house cat, he was declawed and neutered but his owner probably died and he ended up as a neighborhood roaming cat. He approached me on my porch and made friends with me. He became a big part of my life but I had to respect the street life side of his being. He spent about 16 hours a day in the house in the winter but more time outside when it got warmer. I did what you said - I met him on his terms and fed him and sheltered him and took him to the vet when he got hurt in a fight. I had his friendship and love for 15 months then he got hit by a car. I have felt horrible and responsible for what happened to him so your story helps me a lot. I think I did right by him.

Thank you for this message. Yesterday I lost my beloved cat Inka. She had just turned 17. Inka was born in the alley behind our Chicago apt bldg to a feral mom. At 3 months old she was TNR'd with the expectation that she'd be a working cat and lived in a shelter on our patio. Yes, she was a fierce rodent hunter and did her job well. But she was so much more. Inka became my special girl. We'd sit together on the front steps, her sleek black form next to me or one step above at my shoulder, and we'd watch people walk by or relax as night descended. She ran with her tail in the air when I called her name and made biscuits as I petted her. She "supervised" my gardening and often rested under the leaves of the hosta plants during hot summer days. If I congregated with neighbors she sat next to my feet and stayed until i moved on. She'd trot with me back to our bldg with such joy. Our relationship was our own private world of complete trust and adoration.
Ten days ago she had a fateful encounter with either an intact male cat or a raccoon. She'd been missing for five days - an absolutely unheard of behavior for her - then returned with a terrible injury to her face. The vet prescribed antibiotics and a topical ointment. For a few days she seemed stable. Then last evening when I walked out with her dinner of wet food, I spotted her collapsed on the cement next to her shelter. By the time we were at the clinic it was too late and I had to say goodbye.
I have two indoor cats that I love very much. But Inka was my magical, brave and courageous girl. She was a free spirit to the very end. I miss her painfully and will always remember the great gift of having her in my life.

I am so sorry that you weren't able to save your sweet girl.. Thank you for loving her and making a difference in her life. Having had many a cat, indoors and out...the ones that want out can never be contained and I live knowing I could lose them anytime. I try to console myself knowing that they are truly happy living the best life they can. God bless you!

Thank you for sharing. We are a Huge cat family. We had our ferals that adopted our house as their homes. One, Paul, would never let us too close, never got to touch him, but he knew this was a safe place, where he would not be hungry or hurt. Sam was my porch buddy, so talkative, and looked a lot like your Alex. We have lost both and I feel it every day. They were just as loved as the ones who live in our house.

This transcends love of cats but applies to all relationships. Loss of a cat whether indoor or feral is as painful as losing a human family member, and often even more so because our fur babies give us unconditional love and acceptance.

❤❤❤ I believe, no matter human or animal... The bonds we form never break. Energy never dies... So how can we? He's still with you ... Although you can't really KNOW that and can only, at best, BELIEVE... I personally believe, the ones who have left this world and transitioned, are all watching us and waiting for our time to reunite with them. Remember, energy never dies... That much we have figured out scientifically as a fact. So unless your fur-baby was a stuffed animal with no energy... He isn't "gone"... His energy just left the body it once inhabited. He loved you too... He ain't going anywhere hun... He's keeping an eye on you - waiting on his momma to transition to where he is... Which to him is in a blink of an eye... In the meantime - do all you can to transition the painful memories into joy filled ones - and take heart in what I've said about energy... I believe it because I feel it from somewhere deep down... My guess is you will too, if you really search within. ❤❤❤

Sorry to hear this Jackson and friends. I've got a feral family member. An orange male we call Yellow - I regularly greet him with _"Jello_ Cat". We built him a house on the patio (complete with blankets and heater pad for the winter - trying to figure out what to do about mosquitos this summer, they ate him up bad when he showed up last summer...) and he eats with us most days (he comes up for his dinner when he sees us eating at the table.) Our yard is his territory -he's laying in a cool shaded flower bed right now.
It's been almost a year and I've yet to touch him. Me, my cat, and Yellow were sitting in a very small circle just hanging out yesterday. The poor guy is as jumpy and nervous of threats as you can get (we've wondered if he might have been an abandoned abused cat that's been on his own for a while), but he trusts us enough to _like to_ hang out.
It's my very first experience with a feral/stray like him. Playing it all by ear. But I've grown very fond of him and how once in a while I'll call out into the yard "Jello Cat!" and I'll hear a meow from around the house and then he comes jogging up. It's cute, and that he trusts and recognizes me like that I find really kind of miraculous and awesome. He's also amazingly gentle with our two girl cats - unless they try to eat out of his food bowl.... ...otherwise if they rear up cuz he's gettin' a lil too close, he'll just immediately back down and get into a more submissive pose. He's a good guy.
I understand your sentiments and I don't look forward to understanding your feelings (tho the day he leaves us - hopefully far in the future after he's allowed me to pet him and who knows, maybe decides he'd like to retire inside? - I know I will.)
I'm sending you and your family love and appreciation for the love and care you provide your beautiful, amazing cats and your loyal fan base. Don't stay down too long Jackson - Alex wouldn't appreciate it with her new space ESP calling down from Rainbow Bridge Land!
Stay safe and cheer up! We're all rooting for you and yours!

Try playing with him with a string and/or a stick. After he starts to really engage in playing (could take weeks or months, be patient) you can use the stick to CAREFULLY & gently touch him with it. Try to rub it on top of his head, being careful of hie eyes and any movement of his. I did this with my feral and after a while he started rubbing up on the stick, enjoying scratching on it. I would then start to slowly bring my hand down the stick closer & closer. In time, he got used to my had being closer and finally I was able to touch him with my hand. This was in winter and it was a good thing I had gloves on because the first couple times he was accepting the pets but then snapped his head back to bite. AND wow is he fast with his head. LOL. I of course tried again the next day and after a couple times he started to trust and stopped trying to snap at me. So be careful and know that this can take a long time. For me, this feral became my absolute lovebug!! he demanded snuggles. I was able to bring him inside & he was my most precious special cat ever. But you have to leave it on his terms as you are doing, he may never want to be touched, but maybe with time and working at it, he might. Bless your heart for caring for Yellow. If you haven't yet, please do try to trap him to bring to a vet to make sure he is neutered. There should be a TNR organization in your area to help with this, maybe ask the humane society, they should be able to refer you to one you can contact.

@Veronica C yea we've done that, but he's too jumpy to close the door. When we were sitting around yesterday, he sat with half his body inside on the carpet, half his body hanging out the sliding door (I like him enough to let a few bugs in 😞) He wants it, he wants it bad imo, but he's too scared to make the move. I'll scratch on the glass door and he'll rub his head and body where my hand is - but the second there is no barrier... ...I def worry about him when I don't see him for even a short length of time.
I'll keep trying for as long as he lets us tho.

      @chell272 Год назад +2

@@yelgator8 I'll try, but I'm not hopeful simply because he gets so scared at quick movements. I accidently scared him so bad once just because I was telling my mom a story in the dining room and imitated throwing something. I wasn't even facing him and he got freaked out and took off. Poor guy has probably seen some sh...tuff.
(edit) btw I love your success story. Here's to hoping for Jello Cat's success.

try the feral flower formula / feral cat soother from Jackson Galaxy's solutions, follow the instructions in the bottle. It has really helped to improve my relation with my feral/community cat friend. She's not a cuddler. Any contact is on her terms but gradually she's is feeling more at ease when she comes inside my home to visit. She retains her instincts and feral behavior but she's s not as afraid or jumpy, and that (plus applying everything that Jackson advices for catifying and how to approach her) is what has helped to ease her into accepting us and getting used to my home environment. Wish you both a long road together.

This is an excellent video. So sorry for your loss Jackson. Thank you for the awareness of feral cats and kittens. My husband and I fell into the world of feral cats when I started feeding a wandering cat on my front porch. Lol it ended up being our next door neighbors cat, but it led to our first feral coming to our porch to eat. We fed him for years until one day he started to look thin and wasn’t interested in eating. He came to us on his last day and sat in our garden to say goodbye. His name was Sparta. We loved him so much. We never saw him again. Many, many more have come and gone. We name them all. We were fortunate enough to rescue one of our pregnant feral’s kittens. There were three kittens. The mother never showed again after we saw the kittens. I assumed that she was just worn out from nursing her babies and passed away. We we so lucky to bring little Fern into our home and care for her. She is very sweet but somewhat timid and does like to play rough but we discourage it. We have learned so much and gained so much love from all our experiences with these beautiful creatures. There are many more stories and cats to mention but I’ve already said too much. Lol Thank you for all the work you do, you are appreciated so much!!! ❤

I just had to let my 17+ y.o. Tippy girl go last weekend. She's been battling hyperthyroid since diagnosis about 4 months ago, but even with her meds, her little heart was still affected. She let me know when she'd had enough, & I couldn't argue with her even though my heart was breaking. Vet agreed it was 'time' & they were wonderfully caring for both Tippy & us hoomans.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss Jackson, & I'm grateful that you are not afraid to express the pain that we cat-parents feel when we lose a family member.
My Tippy is now buried in my yard close to her oldest, previously passed friends. We have established a ritual over the years to give our furry friends a fitting & honorable burial, & it does help.
But Tippy was my mental health cat who kept company with me when I stayed at Mum’s (a lot, out of necessity). My room is so empty without her beautiful presence. It's so strange walking into this room & not getting a little trill of greeting.
I find myself crying over silly things like not having her fur on my blankets as much because I'd changed them not long before she died.
It's been over a week since I laid her to rest, & I'm still having weepy moments. As she WAS my mental health cat, & was incredibly attuned to when I needed extra soothing & purry cat contact, I'm finding it really hard to get over this loss.
I still have 5 furkids at home who need me, & Mum has suggested that maybe one of them may like to come back & forth with me to visit. That's possible, but it will be up to the cats if they re willing. I hate having to be away from them at all now.
Thankyou Jackson for all your wonderful advice, & for being a proudly emotionally attached cat-daddy.
    RIP Alex,
    And RIP my little Tippy.

My rescue cat Phoenix is approximately 18 now, She suddenly stopped eating and drinking and in one week looked so very old. She is an indoor girl and I was frightened and resigned to her leaving me. My vet told me the prognosis was poor. She had anti inflammatory and antibiotic injections and surprisingly she for the moment is back to her old self. Grumpy and hissy and yet at times so affectionate it makes me cry. After the second visit from the vet, she slept so close to me - almost ensuring every single part of her was touching me. I felt she really knew that I would do anything to keep her safe and her needs were more important than mine, People would say that is ridiculous, right? You wouldn't Jackson and that is what is so wonderful about you. Alex knows. Still knows. xx

I often come here to watch and learn how to care for my cats. I have 4 indoor and 2 ferals that live very comfortably in my backyard. You are a wealth of knowledge and information and I love my outdoor boys every bit as much as I do my inside babes♥️
I’m so sorry for your loss, may your memories comfort you during this difficult time. Thank you Jackson for all you do for us and for cats everywhere!♥️😘 🐈‍⬛ 🐈

I totally agree Jackson, they are your cats. They do not have to live in your house to be yours, and we are so sorry for your loss. Hugs!

I'm so sorry for your loss, Jackson and family. We just had to say goodbye this afternoon to our 15 year old dog Scooter, and you sharing your story of Alex and the others is helping us grieve. I also remember Rusty, the feral cat I had at my house as a kid, he loved pettings, but would never let us pick him up. He was a tubby giant orange cat with a plaintive meow!! Sadly, he also got cancer, so we had to say goodbye.

I had to go through that in November. I had not lived with dogs for decades, and I had never been through that process with a dog. It really hurt. I know what you are feeling. I still miss her.

Jackson, I am so sorry for your loss. I too can relate the same pain in the same situation after taking care of a feral family for 17 years. I learned so much about cats from you and both my indoor cats and the feral family benefited tremendously from that. Now the only surviving feral of this colony is 15 years old and just like your Alex, she loves me back on her own terms. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and love. ❤️🐈🐈‍⬛🐾

Sorry for your loss. I also recently lost another one of my cats, and I'm totally with you. Mourning over a pet is not one bit easier than mourning over a person. There is just not so many condolences, and work with finalizing the estate and sorting through their things, so your mourning isn't as much on display. The sadness and the heart break is the price of love, and it is a bargain!

People are animals and cats are people too, and in one respect the only easy aspect compared to death in humans, is powerlessness to cease prolonging agony. Based upon my own experience (back in 2010) when spinal injury caused my 16 year old cat Moki to be paraplegic and in recognition that life with a catheter and colostomy bag would not be something a cat could understand or tolerate, the hardest choice a person with a companion animal friend ever may need to make, had to be made. Veterinary science can achieve the necessary task with your mate in your arms, as comfortable to them as possible, and the final curtain for this portal into the unknown can be slowly falling asleep without any trauma nor struggle, with a calm warm route to wakeless slumber. Our veterinary person, Michelle, provided home visit after I had him home from the morning pick up to evening all day, with medicated support for his dysfunctional excretion system and his severed spinal cord can cause no pain when there are no nerves to carry the signal. We cannot provide this, legally in most places, for people facing prognosis much more tragic than a colostomy bag, and only this makes human deaths so much harder to manage for all who are involved.

I’m a veterinary nurse and that’s the most difficult part. It never gets easy. Ever. I do however see how love is more than physical. They know you love them, even though many choose to leave the room. They know & it’s okay. ❤

When I was 24 I bought a new house, got a new car and adopted my cat baby, Handsome. Handsome was a standoffish type of cat for like 8 years, he just laid near us. We just let him live the way he wanted. But then I had human babies and boy did he ABSOLUTELY love babies. From about 3m pregnant he started curling up on my lap purring. At 9m pregnant he would wrap himself around my belly and kneed my belly and our baby would push back.
Our human children were the joy of his life he slept with them every night.
During the pandemic our school was virtual for a full year and a half. Handsome never missed a class. He sat on my son’s lap and attended every single lesson of 3rd grade virtual school.
In 2022 Handsome got lever cancer and grew a tumor that was far too large to take off a 18+ year old cat. We held him while the vet sent him to Heaven. I cried like a lost a child because I did. He was my baby for the first 7 years of my life on my own. I love him so much. His ashes are on a shelf right above my head because he used to snuggle in my hair and take half my pillow to sleep.
They aren’t just pets. They are our babies. Rest in peace, Alex.

I lost my doll face Persian cat in Dec. 2020 it hurt so much Draco was 14 and died at home in his bed wit me and my daughter and out wonderful vet. 2 mos. later I got 2 feral kittens 5 months old. it took several months before they trusted us, they even trusted our 2 dogs before they trusted us. Now they love us so much and you can hug and kiss them and love them so much. They just do not like strangers or anyone that does not live in our home, they will hide. But you would never know they were feral at all. I love them so much and they are my go to when I stress and I love when they sleep with me.

I guess my cat could feel the emotions coming from this video, cause a minute after I started watching it, Meoyo woke from her catnap and came right over to me. She was giving me head butts and that "hey what's up" look in her eyes 😥
I am so sorry for your loss, Jackson. Losing a sweet baby is truly one of the hardest things to deal with in life. Sympathies to you and the family, from me and Meoyo ❤

Years ago when my Siamese "Mouse" passed, I sent an email to my boss letting him know that I'd be into work a bit late. Mike replied "I know that he meant a lot to you. Please, take the day off." Very thoughtful of him. (We named him "Mouse" because one of the first things he did when we brought him home was to hide under, and then crawl up into our grandfather clock.) Hugs to you!

I have gone through that so many times, and I still get tears when I remember those precious babies of mine.
My daughter is a potter and she did something special for me.
When I had the cremated I received an impression of their little paw set in plaster. She took those prints and created a pottery piece with their name stamped onto it. Then she made a wind chime for each of them for me. So they are always with me.
It's never easy and I share your pain.
Thank you for sharing. You are a good human.

Jackson...this is such a beautiful, meaningful sharing! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for giving a voice to these beautiful souls. Your advocacy saves lives, and will keep saving lives. You're one of the people that I learned from about how to listen, to trust my intuition and started TNR, socializing ferals that wanted to cross that wall, and saved lives. They are so very, very dear, every one. Each loss is so hard. Have lost some to poisoning and it is tough to know that they will never be safe in their neighborhood. I live every day wondering who I will lose next, praying over them, wishing I had a house where I could relocate my little fur family. I didn't want to make this about my crew, but I wanted you to know that there are many of us who share your heart for cats. Furrever.
