The new body has the hair split over the head and neck so you can't change heads. You might be able to if you removed the neck too but doubt it would fit on.

Anyway, on to the question; how durable is this figure? I'm so scared to open mine and does his whole head come off? ( I will not try ) just asking.
These are not like your cheap hasbro toys or what you had as a kid but they also dont break on touch. Just be gentle and you will have no problems. The heads do come off, and the most important part is to pull and put hands on in a straight direction to avoid stress on the pegs.
