As a hawk fan I’ve always loved the Roos from our rivalry in the 70s. Great club and like hawthorn and the dogs they started in 1925. Last year was our hundredth but we are a hundred years old round 1. North will be in the 8 up until round 12 or so. Then slowly run out of legs. Watch them pull off some huge upsets early season if they have a fit squad.
As a north fan, i agree. i love hawthorn. Our simple rivalry is nice. its not a hate rivalry, More a respect one. i hope what you say is true and thank you! Hawks will be fun to watch again this year!
I'm actually looking forward to hopefully seeing Wil Dawson develop into a future star during the upcoming season. He won't be there from the start, but hopefully he'll get opportunities along the way. I also hope for Brayden George to stay in one piece and finally play some AFL footy. Phillips is on his last chance at North, but will have to make it as a tagger. Hopefully we'll have a review of the co captaincy set up, because McDonald will play if he remains as a captain. North needs to change the leadership voting to a secret ballot instead of the open voting system they have now that will stop some players from voting for who they really want for fear of being exposed for stepping out of line.

Lovely team, imo I reckon they will develop Zane Duursma into a hybrid wing / half fwd. For some added air up the ground. Goater and Hardeman both somehow need to find a spot into the 23. I truly don't get the whole "McDonald is in the best 22" thing from a lot of people, he's not. Sure, he won the B&F... but in the reduced upside-down Covid season. To me, he's been extremely lucky to have had a 10+ year AFL career, and if he wasn't co-Captain right now... i think he'd be delisted. Does anyone remember Andrew Swallow? The year he lost the Captaincy, he was delisted at the end of it and he was a better footballer than McDonald. It's nothing personal either, but he's just an empty uniform right now, and this club needs to build its next Premiership team, and he won't be in it, so time to move on now and give the Captaincy to either Simpkin alone or maybe LDU or maybe just give it to a Sheezel now. This club needs to be serious, McDonald has been very lucky to have the length of career he's already had, but that now has to end and at least let him earn his spot in the team each week instead of Captaincy bias.
I like this team. I especially like McDonald out for Hardeman. I have not seen enough from Duursma to be in as yet, and would have Eddie Ford instead, who is a better mark at this stage. Ford can also play on the wing to give us a bit more aerial presence. I think I would also swap out Teakle for Philips. Sacrificing some height for a defensive tagger. But that would depend on the opposition. I would also strongly consider Goater in for Corr - but wonder if Goater can halve the one on one contests. Corr does well in the one on ones, but his disposal is not great, he is slow, and he has costly brain fades. If not Goater then I would consider K Dawson, with W Dawson taking a spot in the backline very soon.
I’m optimistic about this year for the roo boys. I just don’t know about our backline. We’ve got some good rebound players in Caleb Daniel. And Jackson archer who has the shinboners spirit in him and he will always go as hard as he can to win that footy however the rest of the backline is pretty weak. If Combden plays down back then he will improve it however I think he plays his best footy in the forward line. The mid is very very strong, LDU, Wardlaw, Sheezel, Parker, Simpkin, Mckhercher, Scott. Don’t have to say much more, that’s a top 10 midfield right there and we have a lot of depth in that position. Xerri is the best Ruck in the Comp and he basically plays as an extra midfielder. Our forward line is decent. Nick Larkey is a great Key Forward and with Jack darling helping him out down there will be huge. And our small forwards are a bit 50/50. Zurhaar is An A grade player when he wants to be and the forward line is better when combden is down there. However it’s kind of hard to name another gun small forward. Either way I’m quite optimistic about this years north team. Should be aiming for 7-10 wins and pushing for 13th position
George has to play a season in two's without breaking something before even beginning considered ! The opposite flank to Daniel's has to be used to rotate players through, also one of the wings. Goater, Bergman, Harderman, Duursma. Must play these guys to see if we go forward with them. The back line will grow the more Comben and Loge play together.
Great shouts and I agree, if Eddie Ford is in, it has to be at the expense of Duursma! I think that’s a genuine conversation. I guess I went for the higher talent ceiling.

Hey Dylan, are you also planning on continuing the longer, whole list type analysis videos for each team over the off season? I’ve loved going back and watching each of those you’ve put up so far :)
Hi Callum! I will try to do more in depth stuff, I think leading up to Christmas I’ll just drop these ones as they are a bit more manageable to make! I’ll try to expand on my reasoning and use as much of the full list when I do them. 😀 appreciate the feedback
Great analysis overall as always! I think I would have only had one difference in my 23. I would have FOS half back. I just see how beneficial it is for someone like Colby getting the ball in his hands last year and the confidence and repetitions you get at afl level. This is compared to Dursma having to battle it out for his 5-10 disposals. McDonald gets first crack at half back. He did miss all of last preseason with that hamstring tendon injury. He looks fit and it is position to loose. Which I hope will be soon with someone like Hardiman breaking down the door. If Hardiman can play the fisher role and be close to an average defender it’s a big upgrade! I think Maley is a dark horse to pinch Teakles spot on the bench. Also I imagine Parker starting in the guts and finishing there. Spending most of the 2+3rd in the forwards. Simpkin should also be learning to play more of the defensive mid you were discussing. He certainly would have the tank for it.
Yeah I like the FOS shout! I don’t think he’s particularly suited to half back but as a developmental role I like it! The McDonald situation is interesting, I thought he struggled in 2024 and with Caleb Daniel coming in, I see it as a way to give someone else a chance. If McDonald was a really composed half back I’d probably appreciate him more, just don’t think he offers much from a calming point of view. It’s an interesting conversation though.
@@DylanAlexanderFollowsDraft I agree. FOS most suited mid and forward long term! I don’t disagree with any of that with McDonald. I just think he will have a big preseason and start in the best 22. I would definately prefer Hardiman, Goater or Bergman take his place. I just don’t think it will happen before round 1 sadly
u mentioned that what our wingers and mids lack is real aerial ability, that marking presence in the midfield which means we will have to be really clean and acurate transitioning off half back, what do you think of finn osullivan can he be a real asset going forward due to his marking ability, i feel it will give us some marking strength through the middle. Aside from him i wonder if dursmaa could end up at least being utilised part time as a marking presence in the midfield because as a junior even though he was a FWD he was regularly utilised as a midfielder and showed some real promise there aswell.
Dursmaa will be the 3rd tall fwd playing half back and linking up through the middle o'sullivan will get a run on the wing for the same reason only getting limited miniutes in the middle too. scott will be lucky if he keeps his spot fumbles too much. powell doesnt tackle so he could lose his spot too. the best thing we did was get experince and another midfielder in o'sullivan as now those players who have not been up to standaerd consistently wont be in the side if they dont perform. I think zurhaar, curtis, dursmaa are playing for one spot. same for fisher, mcdonald, goater, bergman and hardiman
Ford is another with the talent but goes missing a bit too much around half forward. Goater has had a rough go at it but damaging foot skills if healthy. Depth with Vets comes in handy, young guys tend to miss games with form and niggle injuries. Paul Curtis and Dursma should take us to another level this year. Pretty much nailed it with the squad. Corr makes me lose my mind every game but Dawson not quite ready yet
Excellent video. Gee the backline is a concern. I think Logue and Corr are really average. Comben looks like he will be an absolute jet but is injury prone. Love Archer, always puts in 100%
Yeah I feel North really need to recruit a key back but that’s not easy to pull off! The rebuild has been a disjointed as we’re recruiting our high end key pos players who take 3-4 years now and our midfield is already well developed.
Tucker over mcdonald? Think with a full preseason and more of a lock down role with some other players responsible for the drive, he'll have a really good year. Also think with Daniel as the architect down back, fishers dash off the back will be a key feature this year.
Thoughts on konstanty ? We’re in need of a small, zippy, high pressure small forward. I couldn’t see him walking into the team too early but given the need for pressure in the forward line I’d be surprised if he goes untried. Just curious on your thoughts of what he can offer if given the chance, and should he be given the chance?
Yeah it’s a good shout! I meant to put him in the notable sections. Feel he’s sort of competing for that deeper role, we need better quality small fwds in general so agree!
He'll be playing VFL, but imo won't be close to locking down an AFL spot with us. The Swans were just about to delist him after assessing him from close up for two years because they couldn't see a future for him as an AFL player that they had invested a first round pick in. The Swans are usually good judges of talent.
What about Eddie Ford? Games I've watch I like how he lead to the ball. I think k he is a better option on the flank that Parker. I reckon Parker will end up as a true utility
I dont think Hardeman walks into the starting 18. There are quite a few options for yhat half back position. Powell, McKercher and Tucker. Tucker at half back was really positive for North in that back half of the season. Tucker was moved there post bye from the wing. You have Kerch on the wing, I think Fos will play there. He’s a running machine and his lighter frame wont be exposed as much there. Wow, Jy on the bench.. I give you props. His 2024 season was horrendous however I think he plays half forward to start and end up in a mid rotation with Parker. I think one of Parker and Simpkin will be in the middle combined about 80% of the time. I think powell snd kerch will rotate through the middle also. Thsnks for posting, so many different teams by people. Means we are building some depth
Solid midfield, I like Zurhaar, Larkey and Curtis but Darling and Luke Parker in the same fwd line I'm not fond of. I'd rather Eddie Ford. I'm also taking Simpkin out for Lazaro . I think Lazarro is just better tbh. I feel like McKercher should stay in defence to offer more drive out of defence. The wing role can be a very lonely place at time. It's a specialist position as you know and unless he's been practicing on the week in the pre=season then I think it's better to use hit elite speed and foot skills out of defence
@@Norfanatic I rate Lazarro higher than Simpkin. I don't rate Simpkin at all. Spends more time flicking his fringe into place at each stoppage than actually influencing the game. He isn't best 22.
They made Powell into more of a defensive mid in 2024, so forget that going forwards? I'd like to see Bergman and Goater make their way in but maybe that is a couple years away with our older recruits.
North need to get their big boys together quickly. Think of Melb and how they got May and Lever sorted. Or West Coast with Barrass McGovern, with Hurn and Shepherd being midsized but very good overhead. North need to really fast track those key forwards and key defenders as they take 4 years to develop and take longer than mids. North seem to have the mids but need to really get the tall guys quickly.
@@georgepappas4628 You just have to have a plan and show them the money. Melb were really struggling when they got Lever and May to their club and that delivered a flag really. You'd expect there would be some players on their list now, but if not they'll have to recruit them in.
Very good point - unfortunately this is an area which we have somewhat neglected. We are banking on Will Dawson to be our next monster key back like Harris Andrews, weitering etc.. what will help however is Daniel and hopefully hardeman playing as they are decent kicks of the ball
I really hope North improve this year and that the young guns take another step to make the team elite. But I do think they are a long way off still, even with all the young talent. In the defence, forward line, and interchange I think there is only one player that makes the best 18 for a top 4 club (Larkey). Thats 1 player out of 18 players. Some of those are indeed young talents that could come good, but it reminds me a lot of when I thought James Aish/Josh schache "could" be the elite talent. Now the midfield is pretty stacked, but unfortunately a lot of midfields are stacked, with young talent too. I dont mean to be a hater. Like i said I really do want to see North rebound, but I think they have less young talent than GC have had and have worse depth in key areas. I hope I am wrong tho.
Great work Dylan. I’m a diehard North fan. You mentioned a couple of times about getting games into players. I agree. FOS, Durrsma and W Dawson will be in our next Premiership side. They need to play. Finally Clarko has some talent to work with, now they have to learn to win games of footy. 💙🤍💙🤍
OK, elephant in the room with this side... who captains it? I reckon it's time to change the guard, to have an on-field captain present and evolving. Vote 1: H. Sheezel. He's ready to take the vacant mantle, as our current co-captains may not even be on the field much in 25.
Yeah, he has the overhead game for sure! I think he’s pretty versatile. What puts you off Colby doing some time on the wing? I think he’s pretty similar to an Errol gulden in the way he plays.
@ Yeah I agree. I just think he might be a bit helter skalter bringing the ball inside 50 and his overhead game isn’t that strong and would prefer him kicking in and coming off half back and Goater is a smooth mover and can see him linking up with the backs mids and forwards quiet nicely
Dylan you are overrating a lot of these players. Backline has 0 A grade players and most are not even B grade. Plenty of quantity on the list not enough quality. You can only play 22.
@@DylanAlexanderFollowsDraftthat’s a bit harsh. I think your forward line is interesting. The backline could come good. Shame you didn’t get the Viking but you got a Whitlock.
@@DylanAlexanderFollowsDraft got to disagree mate north fan but I think norths defence will be improved and if parker goes forward with Larkey darling zurhurr and Curtis of Of a sudden it's not to bad
Philips stephens fisher are cooked. Got to hope Dawson and Whitlock come good next 2 years or it’s still a long way off and 0 small forwards when the modern game makes them critical is negligent list management.
@@andrewwatts3571 we have a heap of small forwards. None are afl ready yet and might never be …. It’s a position you could pick up at a later stage in the draft or free agency later on . The tallls are harder to get. Fingers crossed Dawson and Whitlock make it. And combden stops getting injured
@ I agree I just think like the tigers they should have gone for them a few years earlier. It’s a shame they didn’t see the JHF writing in the wall and trade pick 1 you had Mac Andrew Gibcus Leek Aleer Van Rooyen in that top 20 one or two of those would look good with larkey and comben as bookends. Hope you are right on having good small forwards but the really elite ones play immediately so I wouldn’t be as bullish despite not professing to be a list expert on north
@@andrewwatts3571 yeah sorry. I don’t have high hopes for our current crop. More maybe 1 of the bunch can be a long term player. We could pick a specialty small forward in next 2-3 draft in the first round and like you said they can hit the ground running I agree key position players would be nice developing. But also, they are hard to get right. Look at Essendon. They have tried to draft there “spine” and have missed on a few top 10-15 picks. It’s easier to pick star mids high in the draft.
That would have us finish either 17th or 16th, which would confirm the burning of our F1 at the draft as a ridiculously dumb decision. Personally I think 8 wins is the pass mark.
i think nathan schmook did a reasonable job on the AFL channel. the challenge is how do you get all the mid sized defenders in. Eagles have a strong team with the small-mid sized defenders. To fit them in will mean dropping guys or putting them into the midfield, which then leads to a midfield of older guys in the late 20s. Its already stated by coach that ginbey and baker will be down back. maric is also training back there. there is an abundance of small forwards too, but they don't like tackling much! that will be a tricky selection too. good luck DA
@@DylanAlexanderFollowsDraft it will be challenge for you. I wait ready to have my say! I'd rather have Baker in the middle and cut the supply at the source. The Eagles had a very good defence last year with guys in All Australian form, but it didn't stop them getting thumped. I think North are a few years ahead in the development and should be moving up pretty quickly.
@@DylanAlexanderFollowsDraft It's flawed logic to believe that Clarkson has specifically brought in experience only then to drop established experience from the 2024 side. B: Corr, Logue, McDonald HB: Daniels, Comben, Tucker C: McKercher, Sheezel, Scott HF: Simpkin, Darling, Zurhaar F: Curtis, Larkey, Duursma R: Xerri, Davies-Uniake, Wardlaw Int: Parker, Powell, O'Sullivan, Phillips 23rd: Teakle
@ yeah it’s a fair point about experience but I look at some of that experience as an upgrade of quality, Daniel is better on the ball than McDonald at half back. Darling just fills a positional need up forward and Parker is a versatile mid/fwd that gives a bit of a blueprint for guys like Wardlaw and Sheezal to follow. Also this wasn’t a predicted line up it was what I’d do.
PLEASE!!! I BEG YOU!!! Leave your mic holder alone. You move it every two seconds and it drives me crazy. Having said that. A decent crack at an early 23. George won’t be looking at any form of game time until at least May and then 8-10 weeks in the VFL before even being considered so I’d rule him out of plans for 2025.
definitely in much better shape than the tigers team, at the other end or the rebuild and probably time to leave that bottom 4. my team for them. Logue Comben Corr Jackson Daniel McKercher Simpkin Scott Xerri Sheezel LDU Wardlaw Parker Zurhaar Duursma Larkey Darling Curtis Hardeman Powell FOS Teakle and whoever as sub. nearly had will dawson over corr, if he has bulked up he's in for me. kept Colby at half back with daniel to learn from. Not sure about Simpkin on a wing, but with powell and FOS on the bench i thought it would be too many mids in rotation, which is probably a good sign for your midfield. someone like Ford on a wing would be interesting. Teakle is a bit meh, maybe goad could be that rotation option.
Is Teakle the guy from East Freo. He is an ok ruckman. Probably a second ruck or a depth player. Darling will provide leadership and compete. But I don't think he'll play every week. He does try and compete which is good, I just fear that at 191cm approx is he a bit small now for a marking forward. He has a good tank and has good running patterns most times.
@BDub2024 yeah, the only real issue with darling is he can't really add anything in the ruck, and you wouldn't want larkey doing it so you need someone like teakle on the bench which sucks
So you think you're in better shape than the Tigers? Looking at that team, I wouldn't be at all confident. I'd be happy to put a lazy $100 bet that Richmond will be playing finals again before North...
Dursma will keep powel or curtis off the field and o'sullivan will take scotts spot or hardiman reason being scott & powell dont tackle so give you zero pressure

Sheezle. Belong in the forward line or the back line
He needs to earn it with VFL performances. But I would love to see him work out.
He'll be playing VFL, but imo won't be close to locking down an AFL spot with us. The Swans were just about to delist him after assessing him from close up for two years because they couldn't see a future for him as an AFL player that they had invested a first round pick in. The Swans are usually good judges of talent.
Hardeman vs our new boy? Whitlock. Who is our premiership CHB. We are gap filling in defence. Hardman is stiff to miss... who is our capt?
Nice to see North Melbourne got some silver wear for a change!
Would've thought Goater takes the Hardeman role.
What about Finbar
I'd love Goater and George to get games, they both have such potential and just need a good run.
Yeah 100% I need to see George this year, electric at his best!
cannot consider Georeg until he has a injury free season
Solid midfield, I like Zurhaar, Larkey and Curtis but Darling and Luke Parker in the same fwd line I'm not fond of. I'd rather Eddie Ford. I'm also taking Simpkin out for Lazaro . I think Lazarro is just better tbh. I feel like McKercher should stay in defence to offer more drive out of defence. The wing role can be a very lonely place at time. It's a specialist position as you know and unless he's been practicing on the week in the pre=season then I think it's better to use hit elite speed and foot skills out of defence
Lazarro is goneski.
Lazzaro will be great playing for Port Melbourne
Um sorry, are we comparing a club best and fairest winner and club captain to Charlie Lazzaro? The club got that delisting correct imo!!!!
haha whoops! didn't realise he got delisted haha.
@@BDub2024 yeah they absolutely need to go to the trade table for atleast one elite KPP.
@DylanAlexanderFollowsDraft sorry to say, but no quality key position player wants to play for North.
Comden will be a fwd
No mention of Coleman-Jones?
Like it.just swap dursma for powel.
Hardeman looking good
@@brettcoles5262 hope he gets a run 🤞
North need a mid year trade period.too many c graders.could trade 5 players for 1 gun defender
Do Hawthorn next 🗣️
FISCHER AND STEPHENS VFL WITH LUKE MC DONALD
Frothing that the best AFL content creator on RUclips is a North nuffie!
Haha thanks mate 😃😃
Why is everyone sleeping on Josh Goater 😭😭 he’s a freak!
Can Goater play that taller wing role?
Is there a reason why Eddie ford is not even on your other mentionable players list?
@@YourService977 don’t think you can have Duursma, Zurhaar and Ford in the same team. All do the same thing
Eddie Ford may be feeling hard done by
@@belongda6032 yeah, agree, who does he replace though?
@@DylanAlexanderFollowsDraft I'm putting Powell on the bench(rotating threw the middle), Tucker misses out and Ford on the Flank.
@@DylanAlexanderFollowsDraft Probably have Goater over Hardeman at the moment
Ford one of those players that never plays round 1 always ends up playing majority of the season. Hybrid forward pressure and score involvements
Yep. Eddie has to take one of the flanks. Would rather him over both Parker and Powell.
Could Goater be the other winger, I don’t think Colby is a winger
@@philt8884 oh I’m not overrating the backline! It’s terrible! So is the fwd line, only good line is the mid zone.
Games are won in the middle
@@DylanAlexanderFollowsDraftthat’s a bit harsh. I think your forward line is interesting. The backline could come good. Shame you didn’t get the Viking but you got a Whitlock.
@@DylanAlexanderFollowsDraft got to disagree mate north fan but I think norths defence will be improved and if parker goes forward with Larkey darling zurhurr and Curtis of Of a sudden it's not to bad
He never said any of those players were A graders. As long as each player does their role sufficiently north will be fine.
Philips stephens fisher are cooked. Got to hope Dawson and Whitlock come good next 2 years or it’s still a long way off and 0 small forwards when the modern game makes them critical is negligent list management.
@@andrewwatts3571 yeah agree! Just a midfield overload
We could pick a specialty small forward in next 2-3 draft in the first round and like you said they can hit the ground running
I agree key position players would be nice developing. But also, they are hard to get right. Look at Essendon. They have tried to draft there “spine” and have missed on a few top 10-15 picks.
It’s easier to pick star mids high in the draft.
I feel the coach is cooked too, he’s the elephant in the room.
Archer Corr Dawson
Daniel Logue Goater
Scott Wardlaw McKercher
Zurhaar Comben Parker
Curtis Larkey Simpkin
Xerri Sheezel LDU
Powell McDonald Duusrma Ford O’Sullivan
North should win 5 to 8 really.
@@BDub2024 yeah! They have to expect a spike in 2025! If not something going wrong!
@@DylanAlexanderFollowsDraft I think they will notwithstanding injuries. I'd be trying to bring in key defenders especially by hook and by crook.
That would have us finish either 17th or 16th, which would confirm the burning of our F1 at the draft as a ridiculously dumb decision. Personally I think 8 wins is the pass mark.
@@gustaaf1892 pass mark is probably 7 wins for me. I can't see them winning more than 8.
yay this means eagles r next right?
@@eaglefruit correct ☝️
i think nathan schmook did a reasonable job on the AFL channel. the challenge is how do you get all the mid sized defenders in.
@ mid size defenders at west coast are like the third tall forwards at north, they’re everywhere!
I can't take any team seriously that doesn't have Luke McDonald in the first 26!. 🤣🤣🤣
I wanna see your team Andy? 😃 who you got?

McDonald is only there because of his last name. Won't be captain much longer.
Tom Jonas?
They vote every year on captaincy. I don’t think he will be captain.
Captains can be dropped also. Doesn’t belong in my starting 18

definitely in much better shape than the tigers team, at the other end or the rebuild and probably time to leave that bottom 4.
my team for them.
Logue Comben Corr
Jackson Daniel McKercher
Simpkin Scott
Xerri Sheezel LDU Wardlaw
Parker Zurhaar Duursma
Larkey Darling Curtis
Hardeman Powell FOS Teakle and whoever as sub.
nearly had will dawson over corr, if he has bulked up he's in for me. kept Colby at half back with daniel to learn from.
@@anappropriatehandle Darling can do the forward ruck work like boundary throw ins. He is a big unit.
@BDub2024 the only player his height who I've seen ruck is mitch owens, darling isn't as athletic as him, no way he can ruck

Dursma will keep powel or curtis off the field and o'sullivan will take scotts spot or hardiman reason being scott & powell dont tackle so give you zero pressure
