  • The Vancouver Canucks held their end of season media availability this morning. Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes and Brock Boeser all spoke about their respective seasons. Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov talked about their futures with the club as well. Rick Tocchet won the Jack Adams yesterday.

It took Edmonton 7 games to beat the Canucks without:
    - Vezina Finalist starting goalie for the series in Demko (Yes, Silov played well and gave us a chance to win every game, but Demko can straight up steal games even if we aren't playing well, with how shaky Skinner was earlier on in the series, winning one of Game 2 or 4 could mean this series would be over in 5.)
    - Elias Pettersson playing with 1 healthy knee.
    - Boeser playing the first 6 games with a broken finger & missing the 7th game with blood clot
Injuries are part of the game, and it's bad luck that we have them at the worst possible time. Absolutely proud of the resiliency with this group of players in pushing the Oilers to 7 games. I think a healthier Canucks team would've won this series no doubt.

I can certainly compare Pettersson's quality of play between December 2023, and April 2024 as I have attended two home games during that span. When he played at against Tampa Bay on December 12, 2023, he looked more at ease. He was skating, moving his feet, and wasn't tentative at making plays. He looked like the usual Pettersson we're used to seeing. At home on April 10, 2024 against the Coyotes, he looked slower than usual. More apprehensive, held onto the puck more than usual, wasn't shooting enough, and looked like he had no confidence at all.

He laughed to deflect from the second question directed his way. I still feel like there was some sort of head trauma or concussion. In fairness, he looked like either of the Sedins during their first playoff run. They got trounced and didn't seem to know how to handle the more physical play at first. But not relieved. Hope he heals and is in a better place next year.

When Garland was on the 1st PP shit happened. Let Lindholm go. Get someone younger, tougher, for less money and preferably north American. You don't need to believe everything you think, Dr. Freud. You actually have no way of knowing, other than your assumptions.
Pettersson has not been skating properly for months. It was obvious. A couple of years ago he had the wrist injury. It took him almost a year to get his shot back to form. These things are common. I remember Kesler, Steve Yzerman, Bure all trying to skate with a bad knee. They looked like entirely different players. Turns out you need 2 functioning knees to play hockey.
If Petey rehabs properly and the Canucks give him a proper sniper on his wing, maybe a big forechecker on the other side, I am guessing that he'll be a #1 centre again and get well over 100 points if he stays healthy next year. He's an All-Star for a reason and it isn't because of a fat contract.
BTW, McDavid was underwhelming in the Canucks series. He too may be nursing an injury. We only find out after a team is knocked out. He doesn't look right either but no one is blaming that on his contract. Players get injuries.
