I want to first say thanku for all you do Pastor. I have a very sincere question . Why do u have a 3 goddess worship symbol on your backdrop ? Does it have some meaning for Jehovah God , Jesus ? Blessings
@Apologia Studios : How do you know the bible is complete? No men of God was used in the canonization of it, a man of God would be any of the apostles or Stephen, or Phillip, certified with power! God can use the religious, so his Word never pass way as he did with the catholics...
@Apologia Studios Jeff Durbin. Can you explain the unpardonable sin? Is cursing the Holy Spirit in anger or calling Him a liar the unpardonable sin? Or calling Him evil out of confusion? I was a professing Christian at the time. I have committed horrible sins. I can remember saying horrible things to Christ and God and The Holy Spirit. I also said I reject Him as my Savior. The only thing I'm pretty sure I didn't do was attribute His miracles to satan (I was on some heavy meds, methadone and my memory on that one is a little clouded) I have since come back and I've confessed and I believe I've repented (although I obsess over whether it is genuine because there is no forgiveness for that sin), but it still haunts me. I watched a video from James White on it but I could use some elaboration. Doug Wilson said its a moral inversion but I dont see how he sees it in the text. Please help me😢
He has spoken Audibly to me and told me to go do something and then gave me a chapter of the bible to read to give me understanding. This has happened twice. Both times he showed me scripture to back up what I was told
I was locked up back in September and while in my cell with no Bible around the Holy Spirit spoke to me audibly(like a whisper) also with visions and dreams..I second guessed all of that and then I received a new cell mate who wasn’t a believer, come in and started speaking scriptures to me which convicted me..Crazier thing was what he was saying lined up with the audible voice, the visions, and dreams.
Holy Spirit uses the Scripture of course but if you look at Acts, there are multiple ways the Spirit spoke to them. The Holy Spirit forbade Paul to go to Asia, Paul had a vision about going to Macedonia, Agabus prophesied of the coming famine, etc. Peter talks about having your SENSES trained to discern good and evil. Dreams, visions, prophecy, etc. We of course need to have Scripture not just familiar but as an integral part of our walk but also learning to discern the voice of God in our lives.
Healings still happen, miracles still exist, dreams change lives, encounters bring awakenings. The same power that rose Christ from the dead lives within you. It lives within all of you.
@@edbrackeen5979 The gospel is the good news of the Kingdom! Jesus preached the Gospel of the Kingdom, not just the gospel of salvation! The gospel of the kingdom is Heaven on Earth! It is God’s will being done! It is deliverance, healing, prophecy, all the spiritual gifts, and it is the revealing of the sons and daughters of God!! Praise Jesus!
After discovering James White watching his debates, which lead to me finding this channell and discovering you, I must say, I am glad for that journey, you are an excellent teacher, so well spoken and very respectable. The way you handled your debate with Brandon Robertson was very respectable and honestly, I dint think I could have handled it as well as you did. I look forward to more time listening to your teachings.
Dear family In Christ Jesus as Jesus spoke to Paul on the road to Damascus he can and does speak to the saints even today if he so chooses there's nothing impossible with our heavenly Father praise his Holy Name much love as always In Christ Jesus seek daily his truths draw near he who has ears to hear let him hear what The holy Spirit teaches AMEN ❤
Amen brother, the holy spirit talks to us through the bible!! I listen to the bible when I sleep, and some nights I never wake up. Then on other nights, not every week or month but I wake up and hear him speaking to me. And answer my prayer through the bible. Love you Brother ❤️ keep up the truth 💯
It hasn't happened often to me, but YES my brother, the Holy Spirit does and can speak to us today, and not always through Scripture either. I can recall the Lord speaking to me twice before. It was not audiobly, meaning that it was not sound that entered in through my ears. The best way I can explain it is that it's through my thoughts/mind that He spoke. The blessed Holy Spirit can definately speak to us, and when He does, it's undeniable. Still, I don't suggest people should go seeking for this, since the Lord will speak when He wills. We must always be causeous and test all spirits, because those who are desperately seeking a voice, might just get confused and hear from their own thoughts instead. 1 Thessalonians 5:21 "but test everything; hold fast what is good."
The answer to this question is in the gospel (John 14:23-26:) "Jesus answered him, 'If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me. These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.'"
I agree with the Pastor’s message here. Anytime a religious teacher starts going down “God told me…” road, he better have a chapter and verse to go with it. And I’ve always wondered about Christians who practice strange “Holy Spirit” religious ceremonies like “faith healings” and “tongues” and such. What confuses me about the healings, is trying understand how Christians in that system reconcile the fact that every single one of them eventually dies like everyone else. It seems that if someone had enough faith to heal their diabetes, and then eventually died of cancer anyway, something’s not adding up. And the thing about speaking in tongues that confuses me, is that when it happened in the book of Acts, it was specifically for the purpose of clarifying the communication. Those people could understand each other, in their common languages. It was most decidedly NOT a babbling cacophony. Honestly, it pretty much looks like churches operating on gimmicks like that are simply tickling ears. The Word of God is sufficient.
Midnight, I had been at this bar since noon, I raised the glass to my mouth and managed to finish it off. My head come down unto the bar, I heard a glass shatter and the barmaid saying to ' someone' , "that's it your cut off !" I even didn't know she was talking to me. And then I heard another voice who I immediately recognized and He wanted to know one thing, "Does this satisfy"? Well, I knew I couldn't get another drop down me if wanted to. But satisfy? " No Lord, this does NOT satisfy". And I was lead out of alcoholism. Thankfully
To clarify, it wasn't an audible voice but a sub conscious voice vs my normal conscious voice. Just because science cannot quantify consciousness that doesn't mean Christians are talking to our imaginary friend either. " My sheep hear my voice and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand". John 10:27-28 KJV
I believe to categorize whether this is normative or not is not possible, it can’t even be spoken of in that way because God does what He wants. To wall God out of speaking to His people individually because we have the complete scripture doesn’t make sense. we certainly see it happening in scripture which I honestly believe is ‘God’s Territory’ which we cannot cross by putting walls around it that scripture has not. We see the spirit speak to the church in Antioch and to Phillip. Which I personally call ‘special missions’. I believe if we are equipped(ready) and willing God can use us in this way. The scriptures are our decrement to show us the truth but they never teach us to build walls, only to avoid what is false. As long as we understand God and His will according to the Scripture and are obeying, it should not be a strange thing, maybe surprising for those it has never happened to, to be prompted by the Holy Spirit to go somewhere specific or speak to someone specific. It has happened to me and it was surprising to me but there was nothing false, misleading or unbiblical about it. It just happened. What can I say to these things, God is in the Heavens He does what He pleases.
God has spoken to me directly many times. It has usually occurred when I least expect it. I have also enjoyed many of the gifts of His Spirit. Prophesy, visions, healing. They are just as relevant and useful today as they were in times of old. I don’t see anywhere in God’s word that says these things have ceased among mankind.
“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,” Romans 8:16 The spirit of man is in constant communication with the Spirit of God. As to whether the soul processes this intellectually or emotionally depends on other factors but of course the Spirit speaks to us today, we are spiritually alive and have a new spirit to be in communication with
MR C.,.....If what you have stated is true (and it absolutely is not) then how do you explain the fact that the entire church is 100% apostate? The fact is, the entire church is filled with the spiritually dead, absolutely not with the spiritually alive. You have been deceived because well,.....you are not yet spiritually alive.
Acts 2:17 - “And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.” The Bible makes it very clear - in the last days, young men will see visions and old men will have dreams. Prophesy will be spoken out. The Bible says this. If the Bible says it then it is the truth.
@@jokinghazard4022 Peter quoted it and wrote what he wrote as a direction for churches to establish properly in the future. You can’t pick and choose what is relevant and what isn’t. The Bible is an active word out from the mouth of God, himself. “And these signs will follow THOSE who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”” Mark 16:17-18 The word “THOSE” isn’t merely targeting the 12 apostles. He is saying for THOSE who believe. All who believe and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and believes in his true Authority will be saved.

I’m uncomfortable putting God into a box within which He must operate. That being said, I think it’s important to test the spirits as John said in 1 John 4.
Agreed, the CERTAINTY is in the written word of God. Any vision, dream, "sense", perceived direction or guidance etc that comes in response to a personal situation must always be VERIFIED against the written revelation in the Bible.
I agree to a point; the Bible is not going to tell you which job to take, which ministry to donate to, etc. which is why we need to cultivate both the word in our hearts but also the voice of the Spirit.
@@Adamizer97 Not always, just as the Scripture wasn’t enough to instruct Paul and his co-workers to avoid Bithynia and go into Macedonia next (Acts 16:7-10).
@@Adamizer97 Nothing in the additional Scriptures God inspired afterward would have provided them the very context-specific information the Spirit did then. Furthermore, some of the Scriptures God inspired directly command believers to pursue the gift of prophecy (1 Cor 12:31; 14:1, 39). Scripture actually expresses its sufficiency by instructing us to seek direct revelation from the Spirit alongside the reading of Scripture.
Yea, don't read 1 Cor. 12 out loud Justin/Joshua! Or 1 Cor. 14! You might hear God saying you're dead wrong, and you just may 'hear' that you've put God in a religious box. You can't domesticate God and make him conform to the religion in your mind.
I often quote 2 Timothy 2:15 where it commands us to “study” the Word. If God was still speaking audibly outside His Word, we wouldn’t need to “study” about spiritual things but simply ask God to speak to us .
BB,....Correct, the only way anyone has ever or will ever hear anything from God since the Bible was completed is by their reading of the Bible. And the problem is, about 99% of the worlds population and church has no ability to understand the Bible. They can only understand perversions of what is says.
@@freedomcollectiveproject ,...Actually, he gave a very logical conclusion. Are you trying to say that God speaks audibly? Or in some other way other than the reading of the scriptures?
We as sinful humans to the core, who depend on human emotions and inner "leading" compared to the surety of the Scripture of Truth that divides even to joint and marrow is probably created that way for that very reason
The simple answer is yes. The Holy Spirit comes to live in you and Jesus himself spoke of the Holy Spirit and said "He will come and will live in you and will guide you into ALL TRUTH". Also, There are many scriptures in the Bible which talk about the Holy Spirit as well. He is a living person 😊
LM,.....If anyone has the Holy Spirit living in them, they will have nothing whatsoever to do with anything called the church as the entire church is 100% apostate. When you quote this verse, what is your perspective, that is, do you see yourself as part of the “We” or the “ye”? 2 Peter 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: [we (only used when emphatic): - us, we (ourselves)] [Genitive case of G5210; of (from or concerning) you: - ye, you, your (own, -selves)] Personally, I count myself as one that has already had “the day star arise in my heart” experience. I no longer see any “word of prophecy” more sure than any other. I am forever praising and believing Jesus is the Christ, and this is pleasing to God.
I’d personally disagree if in acts 13:1-3 the Holy Ghost spoke to Paul and Barnabas post ascension of Jesus. There’s no reason this wouldn’t happen today. And it is concerning for me that it isn’t.

God speaks to us today in all the same ways that Scripture tells us that He spoke to people written about in the Bible. Through Scripture, dreams, visions, experiences, signs, prophecy, an inner knowing.. Yes, everything must be weighed against Scripture and one must ask for wisdom in discerning what one is or might be hearing from God. He'll often speak more than once to give confirmation to what He's saying. If you're not hearing from God: Ask Him to speak to you! If you're still not hearing from Him and know that you ought to start doing some things or stop doing some things, do those things and keep asking! Who knows, maybe you'll even have an angelic encounter or be transported somewhere in the Spirit or hear an audible voice. What's important is that you love and obey Him and love others as you love yourself and as He first loved you. Some Christians think that hearing from God in such ways is weird. Well, we all have different personalities and ways of doing things. Some Christians would rather follow their own leading than Holy Spirit's.
Jesus Christ the Good Shepherd spoke and still speaks to His sheep audibly. They hear His voice. Can you know that you are one of His sheep if you do not hear Him? I am forever praising and believing Jesus is the Christ, and this is pleasing to God.
Everyone needs to go see the documentary that just came out “Come Out In Jesus Name” God is still speaking, still setting people free of demons and healing the sick. People were getting set free in the theaters all across America Monday night in Jesus’ name! Hallelujah!! All glory to the Lord!
I've personally been a part of healing ministries and deliverance ministries. I've had specific prophetic words spoken over me, as well as my own dreams and visions, which came true. I've personally seen undeniable proof of Book of Acts-like events happening weekly. I've seen people with terminal stage 4 cancer get healed instantly and then bring their xrays and doctors reports to show its gone. I've seen people with metal rods in their legs get healing and bring the xrays to prove the rod is gone. I'm not sure how anyone can say that the miraculous holy spirit gifts are not for today unless they have their heads buried deep in the sand.
Sounds nice, those claims are also made by catholics and mormons alike. The Apostle Paul could have learned from you, since he wasn't able to pray away Timothy's stomach problems. I applaud your mystic powers. (Sarcasm)

@@spiritwarrior5367 wow, that’s quite a lot of cynicism toward a fellow believer. What’s the benefit in that? Wasn’t our Lord the one who healed the sick and raised dead? Wasn’t he the one who said “these signs shall follow them that believe” and “greater works than these shall you do”? Wasn’t the Holy Spirit the one working in the book of Acts leading to widespread miracles, deliverance and prophetic utterances? Wasn’t Paul the one who instructs the church in 1 Corinthians 12 that the gift of prophecy, healing and others is for the church and in 1 Corinthians 14 that he wants all the church to pursue prophecy? Why so cynical toward a fellow believer about things blatantly written in scripture, just because they testify that those things are still real today?
I've heard of people thinking that "healings" occur, but never heard of a metal rod disappearing from a body that's a new one. someone get todd white, there's a new game in town and he needs to kick it up another notch. answer me this: after the "healing" did the "faith healer" also provide the xray to take to a disbelieving doctor to prove the rod was gone? (for whatever reason one would do that. just like call up the doctor, "hey, remember that rod? it's gone." doc says "noooo" dude says "oh yeah. faith healer gave me the xray to prove it to you.") for real? I mean you don't typically bring xrays to a doctor, the doctor's themselves usually order them, maybe you go somewhere else to get it done, but it's sent to your doctor from there, then the doctor calls you back after they examine the xray, and give you the determination on what they find. that xray never even touches your hand, and depending on what it's for can take up to an hour to even process the thing (likely it would for the cancer patient), because it isn't a polaroid camera. so you aren't waiting on it. so if your metal rod person brought an xray to the doctor, and your cancer person did the same thing, then it must've been the faith healer that has an xray machine right? or are you saying the Holy Spirit just provides an xray directly? and actually, why was the metal rod person even in need of healing? I mean I get the cancer person, but the metal rod usually fixes the issue they are implanted for, maybe minus some discomfort for a time, but that's the entire point of the thing in the first place! so why even need healing? back to todd white, I think someone is pulling your leg lol. frequently, it seems. I did have a somewhat prophetic dream once. God told me to feed my cat fish for a week, then take it to a river area and release it. didn't happen though lol. only visions I ever had weren't from the Holy Spirit I can tell you that much, it was LONG before I was saved and it most likely was the opium.

My experience: As a new believer in 1981, I was driving southbound on College Avenue in Fort Collins, CO speeding and changing lanes to get ahead just like everyone else when out of nowhere I clearly heard the Lord speak to me, not audibly but clearly. He said, "From now on I want you to obey the speed limit". I have obeyed the speed limit since. Living in Littleton but commuting to and from Colorado Springs in 1992, I would often stop at the AF Academy and ride my bike on the loop around the academy. One day when descending the long straight hill by the B-52 that is displayed up on cement blocks, I got into a tuck and was just flying. I looked down at my bike odometer with a grin noting I was going 55 mph. Then out of nowhere I heard the Lord speak, again not audibly, but clearly. He said, "I don't want you to ever do that again. In fact I want your top speed to be 30 mph on a descent. I have obeyed ever since---except once. I had climbed up Deer Creek Canyon and turned to go back down. It was a nice warm day. I got into a tuck and picked up speed quickly. Then it was as if the Lord was tapping me on the shoulder and clearing His throat, that I sort of responded with, "Oh that". I sat up to slow down and as soon as I did, I got a blowout in the front tire. It was all I could do to keep from crashing. I had already gotten up to 30 mph.
@@LetsTalkChristMinistries It wasn't a thought like oh I shouldn't do that. It was clearly the Lord and He used distinct words. And He wasn't speaking such that my ears heard it. That's the only way I can explain it. And in both cases my mind wasn't in the slightest bit prepped. I hadn't ever concerned myself with obeying the speed limit or not going so fast on a racing bike with 1 inch tires. I still ride a lot and still live in the foothills of Colorado. I never go over 30 to this day. And when I drive, I get honked at and flipped off constantly because I go the speed limit---even though I'm in the right lane.
For a speed limit? No offense but that seems...Odd. I do know exactly what you mean though when he communicates without words but you understand perfect what hes saying and that your mind is unprepped. I believe God communicated with me when i was dying on the floor in my old apartment. I had symptoms of a stroke and collapsed. My brain wasn't functioning correctly to the point where I could hardly even think my own thoughts but i could feel everything (agony). I vaguely remember a presence watching me. I tried to call out to it but I couldn't speak. It felt like an eternity but it communicated with me through "feeling" is the only way I could describe it. What he or it said is a little too personal to share. Anyway, i was like that for 8(ish) hours. I started to regain control over my body and mine, crawled into bed. I survived. He saved me and im grateful.
Hey brother, "my sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me...." Most believers in history had no access to Bibles, and most were not able to read anyway. Is the Bible important, inspired, wonderful? YES, but have you asked for dreams, visions etc? NOWHERE in the Bible does it say that these things are not for us today. They most certainly are. Ask the Lord for a dream, and don't let any religious doctrine not expressly stated in Scripture to get in the way of you hearing from the Lord. He has much to give you, and he longs for you to know him more deeply!
Jeff, Thus saith the Lord, “I much to give you, and I long for you to know Me more deeply.” I am forever praising and believing Jesus is the Christ, and this is pleasing to God.
The kingdom of god is inside you and all around you, Not in mansions of wood and stone, Split a piece of wood, and I am there, Lift a stone, and you will find me. These are the hidden sayings that the living Jesus spoke. Whoever discovers the meaning of these sayings will not taste death.
Good information but please consider dropping the music. When someone speaks about scripture, I just want to hear the words and consider it. It is much easier to do this without the music. 😉
There is no doubt that the Holy Spirit speaks to us directly today in addition to the Word of God. When the Spirit speaks through the Gifts they are judged by using the Word of God. It is incorrect to think that the Gifts are not active.

Acts 10:9 the Holy Spirit audibly spoke to Peter and gave him a vision…Acts 9 the Holy Spirit spoke to a simple disciple Ananias who wasn’t an Apostle or prophet
Yes Paul was the last Apostle with a capital A. The mention of other apostles with lowercase a is someone who is verified by other godly men to be sent out for the work of God(basically a missionary) but the Capital A is for the ones who were sent directly by Christ. Paul is the last one with that.
Does God speak to us in prayer? I do not mean that we hear him speak or that he gives a prophetic word for me or someone else outside of his word. But I think he reveals God’s truth and convicts me in a personal way in prayer and as he brings up the word in daily life. All of it is tied to the Word but the Spirit does not only speak the word only if that makes sense. An example would be when I see a beautiful woman who is not my wife , the Spirit convicts me, when appropriate of any lustful thoughts.
This does happen, I can relate to the women part for sure, I feel that those convictions are heavy and sent from the Holy Spirit to keep us in check for sure.
Here's what I don't understand. First he sayings the Spirit speaks to us through the Word but he also says the Spirit "speaks" to us apart from the Word. So if the Spirit speaks to us apart from the Word, why do we need the Word? Wouldn't we just receive special revelation from the Spirit?
Jeff actually made a clear distinction between God literally speaking his word through the prophets and God „speaking“ as in leading us (e.g. by convicting us of sin). @@Orangeokie7 *What distinguishes it being supernatural from "just some fluffy feeling?"* As I already said, it must be in line with scripture. *I would argue that a Pentecostal charismatic could say the same thing that Jeff is saying here and have scriptural proof to back it up.* Well, you can let the Bible say pretty much anything you like with the „right“ prooftexts and bad hermeneutics, so that in itself is not a compelling argument. Just ask the Mormons or JW‘s what they believe. You‘ll be surprised what they believe and how they can „prove it“ from scripture. *I mean what Jeff is saying is not the biblical examples we have.* Really? How do you think people came to repent, if not being convicted of their sin and/or being made aware of God‘s truth by God himself? *Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith.* Well, I never said the HS never acted in such a manner. This was certainly the case during that time in Galatia. However, as with anything else, this must be read in context. But we can simplify this discussion: Let‘s say your interpretation is correct and the HS still performs the same kind of miracles as in Acts. Where do these miracles occur and what evidence can you provide?
When God gives us a word, as long as it lines up with scripture, God is still speaking. We serve a living God, not words on paper. If the bible had to disappear or be taken away by force today people that think strictly this way is lost. Holy Spirit will remind us and guide us. Revelation Ch. 22, 18, "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19, And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."
Forgive me, but-----What a Silly question! Of COURSE GOD continues to Speak to HIS Church today. Until this whole thing is OVER, HE will con- tinue to....SPEAK! With respect.
SFAF,.....Yes, the Bible absolutely states that God finished speaking with the completion of the Bible. The only prophecy that there is since the completion of the Bible is the reading of the Bible. God has not ever spoken to anyone since the completion of the Bible. Jesus was the last prophet.
How about scriptures to support your position. Repent and be loosed from restricting The Holy Spirit, and see how amazing he is. Too many intelligent teachers hold to denominational theology, rather than asking God to lead them into all truth, particularly on matters that are not biblically sure!

All these people saying that "as long as it doesn't contradict scripture" and similar statements. Genuine question incoming... Have you not considered that every so-called prophecy today does actually go against scripture? In 2 Tim 3:16-17, scripture says that it can make you *complete* , equipped for *every* good work. If you still need some sort of prophecy, wouldn't that contradict this scripture, and therefore reveal the source? 🤔
No, because when Paul wrote 2 Timothy 3:16-17, neither he nor Timothy had access to most of the New Testament (some of which was probably not yet written). So this passage speaks of the Old Testament-and possibly the Gospel of Luke, which Paul cited in 1 Tim 5:18. Furthermore, Paul and his churches regularly prophesied. So 2 Tim 3:16-17 cannot be used to exclude any form of future revelation, whether prophetic or even scriptural.
@MatOpera Except it doesn't say that does it? "ALL Scripture", so this is a quality of scripture itself, not just some scriptures. Of course, when the Canon closed, this then limits the application to the Old AND New Testaments. By your logic, the man of God only needs the Old Testament and Luke, which I'm sure you'll be hard pressed to find people who will run with that...
@@Adamizer97 No, I’m saying if you believe the verse means specifically what the original author (Paul) intended, it does not immediately refer directly to all of what we today consider Scripture. But we apply the _principle_ of the verse to the additional Scriptures God has inspired even after 2 Timothy (likely all the writings of John). But 2 Timothy 3:16-17 cannot have a negative meaning of excluding further revelation because God gave further revelation after the passage was written, so that would simply make Paul wrong-and some of Scripture would no longer be inerrant.
@@Adamizer97 what Matt said, but especially the point that Paul and the early church actively practiced prophecy which would then mean Paul was contradicting himself in his letter. But practically, getting the Lord’s direction in specific moments is absolutely necessary. Much like Paul needed the Lord’s direction on His missionary trips or Peter to go Cornelius, it’s the same today. We sometimes need for God to tell us exactly what He wants us to do.
I’d like to contribute here. I agree, God speaks to us by way of his Holy Spirit today; certainty and principally through His written Word - the Bible. I also agree he speaks to us directly in other ways. It is Biblical that the Holy Spirit is with us, Jesus said he would send the Holy Spirit, Paul said we are the temple of the Holy Spirit. I also believe that God has not amended the job description of the Heavenly Host. They remain messengers at times. All that is Biblical.

The Bible is the ultimate guide, but in specific areas we need the Spirit. Do I marry Jane? She is not a believer, Bible makes it clear, no. What if she is a believer but not the one for you, you must rely on the Spirit.
So, you read a book and somehow this becomes a personal encounter with the author? So when I read any other book written by an author, I have never seen before, do the words of the book become that author himself? Words and books are not persons. What kind of magic is this?
Brooklyn Lou, God is not a man. His ways are not our ways, so the analogy doesn’t necessarily translate. However, no one here is claiming that the Bible is God, or that the text of scripture is a person, but the words OF a real and living God. Faith itself is gift from God where, by the Holy Spirit, we are given the ability to understand the scriptures and know Him. Hope that helps. It’s not “magic”.
@@DaveH8905 You said this: " Faith itself is gift from God where, by the Holy Spirit, we are given the ability to understand the scriptures and know Him." So, we have a "Spirit" giving someone a special gift to understand a book and to know a "Spirit".Right? Here is dictionary definition of the word "Magic" - the power of apparently influencing the course of events by using mysterious or supernatural forces: Do you see a similarity?
@@brooklynloutheskeptic I did say that, yes! Sort of. Not every person has the Holy Spirit, only believers. Unbelievers don’t have the Spirit. Part of that experience of coming to faith and a knowledge of the truth is being born again by Spirit, a work that brings a person out of spiritual death and into spiritual life. Unbelievers are spiritually dead, and do not have the Spirit. The dictionary definition of magic is to a certain degree agreeable here, but that’s a fairly broad statement. Typically magic is ascribed to deception, sleight of hand, and trickery wielded by a human, or fictional powers wielded by fictional characters. The connotations are different. There’s no “use” of a supernatural force. God IS the supernatural force.

My sheep hear my voice…Not just read scripture. NT is replete with examples of god speaking directly to believers. This cessationist and narrow Calvinist lens where god speaks only through scripture, a preacher, or to convict of sin ignores so much of the Bible.
I agree with you brother but when Jesus said my sheep hear my voice He was speaking about the disciples. It's one of the passages calvinist misinterpret and use as a proof text for their calvinist beliefs to imply that Jesus ONLY died for the "elect" or the "predestined" ones chosen since before the beginning for salvation.

Do you confess Jesus Christ as Lord? Have you repented of sin, believed in your heart and confessed with your mouth as to be saved? Only God is truly holy. We're all being sanctified more fully. As for church, if you're able to attend, I think you should. If it's physically impossible, I doubt God is grieved that you don't when you can't. As for giving, check your heart. @@romulus3345 I don't necessarily disagree with that statement, but I mean I was experiencing dreams just the first few months of being a Christian. I got saved about three and half years ago. Also I've been prophesied over twice and both of them confirm something about my calling perfectly, by two completely different people that don't know eachother, I could go on and on, you can't make this stuff up. The point is there's thousands of millions of people that have experienced the same things, I'm not saying we shouldn't test prophecy like the Bible says, we also shouldn't despise it like it says. I believe cessationism is completely wrong, and it's sad to me because a lot of these people are very intellectual and they know a lot about the Bible, what they're missing out a huge key component of the supernatural life with God that we all can have.

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God stands forever. Isaiah 40:8
Holy Spirit uses the Scripture of course but if you look at Acts, there are multiple ways the Spirit spoke to them.

The answer to this question is in the gospel (John 14:23-26:)
"Jesus answered him, 'If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words.

Yes! Amen.

Interesting how we always hear about these “miraculous healings” but the proof is never shared far and wide…
@@sarahd5341 was there not just widespread demon manifestation and deliverance at over 2000 movie theaters after the screening of "Come Out in Jesus Name"?
I was there, too
@@spiritwarrior5367 wow, that’s quite a lot of cynicism toward a fellow believer.
Where is it found that God cannot/will not speak audibly today? Thanks my Brother.
When you quote this verse, what is your perspective, that is, do you see yourself as part of the “We” or the “ye”?
2 Peter 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
[we (only used when emphatic): - us, we (ourselves)]
[Genitive case of G5210; of (from or concerning) you: - ye, you, your (own, -selves)]
Personally, I count myself as one that has already had “the day star arise in my heart” experience.
I no longer see any “word of prophecy” more sure than any other.
I am forever praising and believing Jesus is the Christ, and this is pleasing to God.
My experience:
As a new believer in 1981, I was driving southbound on College Avenue in Fort Collins, CO speeding and changing lanes to get ahead just like everyone else when out of nowhere I clearly heard the Lord speak to me, not audibly but clearly.
Thanks for sharing. When you say not audibly but clearly, what do you mean? Was he speaking to you internally? God bless you.

Do you believe that the apostle Paul was the last apostle?
@H2s the last apostle alive was John and he wrote Revelation.

Furthermore, he specifically said that such feelings must always be tested against scripture, so I‘m not sure on what basis you are conflating these two notions.

Well that's just it. What distinguishes it being supernatural from "just some fluffy feeling?" I would argue that a Pentecostal charismatic could say the same thing that Jeff is saying here and have scriptural proof to back it up. I mean what Jeff is saying is not the biblical examples we have. Christians in the first century were actually able to see the supernatural with their own eyes. They didn't have to guess if someone had the Spirit. As a matter of fact, Paul actually makes the argument to the Galatian Christians.

As I already said, it must be in line with scripture.
*I would argue that a Pentecostal charismatic could say the same thing that Jeff is saying here and have scriptural proof to back it up.*
Well, you can let the Bible say pretty much anything you like with the „right“ prooftexts and bad hermeneutics, so that in itself is not a compelling argument. Just ask the Mormons or JW‘s what they believe. You‘ll be surprised what they believe and how they can „prove it“ from scripture.
*I mean what Jeff is saying is not the biblical examples we have.*
Really? How do you think people came to repent, if not being convicted of their sin and/or being made aware of God‘s truth by God himself?
*Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith.*
Well, I never said the HS never acted in such a manner.
It's about knowing Christ, having his word written on our hearts, thats why we study scripture now so that in the absencs of having your bible eith you, tge holy spirit is not so weak that He cannot still guide a blood bought believer into truth.

But 2 Timothy 3:16-17 cannot have a negative meaning of excluding further revelation because God gave further revelation after the passage was written, so that would simply make Paul wrong-and some of Scripture would no longer be inerrant.

@@romulus3345 I don't necessarily disagree with that statement, but I mean I was experiencing dreams just the first few months of being a Christian. I got saved about three and half years ago. I remember the first year God gave me about two of three dreams that I'll never forget.
The spiritual gifts and God speaking to us on a personal level never stopped, and there's absolutely nothing in the Bible that says that.
