Hey Mike. I’m an American, born and raised and I’ve seen horrors in the U.S. that you’d think could only be found in 3rd world despots.
I’ve found that those who fervently support the U.S. are dotting sheep who are clueless to the darkness that resides in the U.S. to begin with.
You’re probably a nice person and all, but you’re absolutely clueless to what the U.S. is.

My dinky little town college had professors caught YEARS ago promoting anti-American practices, such as judging based upon race, selective enforcement of who can use the First Amendment, not to mention the overall hatred to the 2A that most professors seem to have. They don't hate guns mind you, they hate that the average person can own them. They're fine having a selective branch of some organization that wields guns so long as they're the ones telling that organization how to use them. And personally I was amazed at the animosity with which one of my professors at the time there regarded me with due to not fitting into her political beliefs. I didn't stay long, decided to go into trades rather than waste money on those who would poison our country with their acidic ideology under the guise of "academic virtue."

@@trashjash I feel as if you aren't telling the whole story. Jsyk, I am on the political left, and I do see the validity of the second amendment. However, I feel like it's used as a political tool. The GOP likes to run on crime, and expanding easy-access to firearms worsens crime. It is an issue they feed, which in return feeds their campaigning. Same applies to the border issues.
The second amendment also has issues with interpretation. It is rather vaguely written.
Secondly, the first amendment is easily exploitable through social engineering, especially in the age of social media. Free speech is valuable, but I also think it can be manipulated to effectively deny it.
For example: Lets say I set up a bot farm that bombards the internet with leftist propaganda, drowning out all conservative voices, would I not be violating the free speech of others? Would I not be interfering with the marketplace of ideas, by making an ideology seem more popular than it is?
Or: If, hypothetically, an authoritarian can rise to power through the use of charisma and rage, who proceeds to nullify the constitution, would that mean that the constitution-- and by extension the first amendment, failed to do fulfill their intended purpose of protecting liberty?

The full text is: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
If you were being honest, you would see that what could be called the vague part, is what constitutes well regulated militia, And exactly how that should interact with the right to keep and bear arms. By what you said, anybody who wants any weapon should just be able to roll up and get a gun anytime they want; whether they’re trained, have good intentions or bad, are insane, want to rob someone to get money for dope, or they’re drunk and enraged, or any of 100 other reasons I’m sure you wouldn’t approve of.
There’s a lot of text in the constitution and the amendments; it doesn’t always succeed at being simply and clearly understood or followed, and it doesn’t always support just one viewpoint.

Dear Echo Mike - I appreciate your honest expression of what you have experienced in America and what you believe is so good about it. I'm an American so of course I like it when people are proud of my country! I think you and I would have a great conversation about how a people should best govern themselves, a question that humans have been asking for millennia. I have a suspicion though, that we have a different view of the American Dream and what it means to "fight for it". For me, democracy is that dream - a government of, by and for the people - all people - all races and religions living in tolerance and appreciation of what we each contribute. And I include in that group even those folks who, for many reasons small and large, don't contribute much at all, and so we who are stronger help them. America IS a dream, because no where in history has there ever been a country where different "tribes", and especially so many different religious allegiances, managed to live so close together and try to govern themselves without absolute rule by a king or a dictator. That's amazing when you think about it! So far we've beat the odds in this difficult but inspiring experiment but it's definitely a hard road to travel (like in the Civil War). But let's keep that dream alive and fight for radical inclusion, full-hearted love and compassionate understanding for each other. America hasn't lost its way, or lost its greatness, because that greatness has always been our life-giving ability to change and grow, a constant evolution toward greater and greater inclusion, justice, vision and creativity. When immigrants come and thrive because of the freedoms here, we all win! No country has ever done this kind of mixing before while also trying to support the equality and value of all its people. We've had to grow into that challenge, with many mistakes, like slavery. But I pray we keep growing into it, in greater and greater ways, both outer and inner, both practical and spiritual. However, if Trump wins and fascism takes hold in an imperial presidency, and the rule of law continues to crumble, the experiment will probably end. Then yes, I'll consider leaving as you suggest. In fact, I have always loved England, so we can trade! I feel the English in general are a kinder, gentler people. I'm 77 and ready to have tea and chat, stroll the beautiful English countryside and enjoy some of your sweet customs in my final years. But you - young, intelligent, healthy, ambitious and white are a perfect fit for MAGA rule. You will thrive, but I hope you'll also watch out for the many, many people who will be crushed by the autocracy Trump promises and hurt by the loss of our fragile, challenging but beautiful democracy. America's dynamic creativity around what it means to be human and how to live together with the greatest good for the greatest number may disappear and we'll have lost the enormous challenge not only of creating a true democracy, but the challenge of true Christian love.

I believe you have romanticised the US because as a young person who has immigrated abroad by choice, you feel fulfilled to some extent and proud of your choices and your course of life and you believe it’s the US, actually it’s you. I’m a young immigrant who has built her career in three different countries (including the UK). I have contemplated a lot coming to the US as well but after all these travels, it’s just the thrill of change for me and not the US itself. I’ve realised a lot of my dreams in the UK and I hold the same romantic feelings for the UK, but you will realise it’s not the country but you (and maybe a dose of luck as well). I started living abroad with Erasmus and since then my home country could never ever fully satisfy me socially and professionally. Only young Europeans would understand. US is great, yes but let’s be realistic.. both US and UK are being dumbed and it’s only your youth, dreams and aspirations that made your experience worth experiencing. There’s nothing less or bad with the UK. You’ll come to this realisation sooner or later.

as an american who has traveled abroad extensively, particularly in Africa, i will tell you that america's "freedoms" largely come at the expense of other countries and at the expense of many americans own well-being. freedom often aint free and there are certainly people in the US who exploit the whole idea for the "american dream" to the point where you are owned by money. i would caution anyone watching this video that you can just work hard and make it here. most people i knew growing up worked tirelessly, day in and day out and menial jobs and got no real benefits for doing so. no recognition from their bosses or anything, just told they should be glad they have a job. the whole "pursuit of happiness" thing has been lost on the country because you're expected to either work tirelessly to be able to barely afford living in 90% of people's experience or get lucky and have someone else boost your life for you. most of the american dream is simply luck and birthright (america is SO classist, arguably moreso than the UK is now) so please caution yourself from buying this guy's worldview 100%... it is definitely not a meritocracy. it is a money-ocracy.

We all became American citizens, and I can honestly say my father was the most patriotic person I've ever know. I, too, identify as an American. Still, I'm proud of my German heritage and the rich history of my family prior to coming to America. Yes, the American dream is accessible to all. After being here for only three years my mother, who didn't speak English upon arriving, completed an accounting course and found gainful employment. My father had a job waiting for him upon our immigration, which was the rule back then. My family worked hard and lived the American dream. I can honestly say that in my 42 years I’ve watched this country lose its damn mind. Our constitution says “For the people, by the people”. But I think we’ve gone so far from that that it will take a miracle to get back to it. Given what happened over the weekend with the attempted assassination of Donald Trump and people being upset that he survived I’d say we have a LOT of work ahead of us.

Your sentence "And founded a nation the world had never seen" is a truth that is unknown or overlooked by many Americans.
We hear a lot about "American exceptionalism" today, especially from various politicians and pundits. Unfortunately some fail to understand what that term really means. It does not mean that America is better at what it does or in what it has than other countries. It means that America is unique because its government was founded upon principals of freedom and self-governance, an idea that had never prevailed anywhere else in the world at that time. The root word "exceptional" has two distinct meanings: "better than" or "unique". It is that second meaning that is at the heart of American exceptionalism, not the first. It refers to our form of government, not to our inherent worth. Thank you for raising that point.
