You didn't talk about the ammo which is impressive. You showed pictures of it. What is nice about AHEAD ammo in these systems is that they are individually timed to explode while leaving the barrel and the shell will throw up a tungsten wall at an area allowing a larger margin of error.
For whatever reasons and trust me when I say I've tried looking... The US CWIS systems use direct kinetic penetrator or slugs to hit the target - meaning one projectile has to hit an other incoming projectile... Where AHEAD ammo fires basically a rifled round with 152 tungsten shot in it that spread out in a pretty standard cone making it much more likely to hit... At the velocity of the enemies incoming projectiles and MANTIS outgoing shells? Well it doesn't take much to destroy the threat. Just enough to destabilize it and let aerodynamic forces rip it apart should suffice.
Why we don't go old school with proximity, or radar flak rounds or even HE is beyond me.
We need 75mm to 100mm for more velocity and range.
Especially for Naval purposes till laser technology comes around. Missiles are too expensive for drones... 35mm is a nice balance between not too much overkill if they could control it to even semi auto! Don't know why it HAS to shoot 25 rounds every time.
Also there is test footage of it shooting down 8 drones in one burst. So already proven effective against cheap swarms!

Rheinmetall should get an award for all the help and stuff they been helping Ukraine with, obv there getting some money and contracts but I also believe the quality of there products are top of the line and for the price, and I do believe there helping Ukraine as much as they can and containing to contribute. Hopefully my country will also continue to support Ukraine and weither rep or dem I really hope they will continue the support if not they will not be getting my vote

Look for Lance Turret system - in the moment all NATO-countries and their defense industries have noticed the drone war in the Ukraina conflict.
Therefore everyone is developing modular systems for tanks, wheel-vehicles and ships.
Raytheon , Nexter, BAE, KMW, Leonardo, Bofors, Kongsberg etc.
Rheinmetall is offering a system-family based on two integrated traditional companies: Oerlikon and Mauser.
The Lance turret for the Puma-tank is exceptional because it’s fully stabilized.

Skynex is more the overarching solution or german version for Intergrated Air Defense Network. These cannons can be linked up with Skynex to optimise theire use.

I wonder about one thing. The rounds to this system must be pretty expensive. What if somebody starts shooting cheap artillery shells at your military base. Wouldn't that quickly exhaust the Mantis system?

    • @steezydan8543
      @steezydan8543 Год назад +1

Yes, of course. It might be strategically viable to shoot a bunch of inexpensive artillery shells and possible have your artillery batteries destroyed so your bigger, more accurate munitions can get through. Everything can be countered, in one way or another.

When I watch this I think of Russia hypersonic weapons if the mantis could fire 50,000 bullets in to the path way of a Russain hyper sonic missel it could put a wall a metal swarm in the pathway in front of the hypersonic weapon in flight no matter how fast it was going ,,,If the mantis could fill the sky with millions of small bullets in the pathway and even program the metal swarm to track the hypersonic weapon in flight as the hypersonic weapon passed thru the metal millions of bullets the bullets would cut the hypersonic missle in to peices in flight ,,,sometimes the smaller something is the more destructive it can be ,,..metal cloud of target exploding bullets 100,000 of them nothing could pass thru it storm of small missle seeking sky swarm bullets ,

The Swedish L70 Bofors gun with giraffe radar 40mm granades with 1100 tungsten balls,3P ammo progammabal, proxy and something more . They just have to make. It fire more shells per minute at least 100min.
But it must be modernized then it would bbe great.
Possibly with 4-6 smal missiles and more sensors.
