Got into sum 41 at age 7. Met them when I was 18. They were the reason I started learning guitar and singing. I’m now going on a North American tour this summer with my own band.
Sum 41 has always been criminally underrated, even despite how big they were at one point. Almost the entirety of their discography fuckin slaps, and they’ve always been cool ass dudes through it all
The great part about them is all the different genres they do slap. They’re great at pop punk, but also more hard rock, metal, and even some their more straight up pop songs are great
Yeah, I think the thing is, most people don’t wanna take them seriously. They just heard fat lip and probably think they’re trying to be a limp bizkit knockoff. For pop punk fans though, there’s so much to enjoy.
I saw these guys in concert with Simple Plan a couple weeks ago at Radius. I swear the whole place was packed. People were jumping, people were singing at the top of their lungs, and just having a great time. When the concert ended we were hearing songs by Blink, Yellowcard, and RHCP people were singing along and I swear I finally found my people that night!
I just went to their final concert in Boston this past tuesday and it was the same way. They played with Interrupters opening and that experience was very similar. I felt welcomed and like I belonged there. Everything was joyful and amazing.
Sum 41 definitely needed a video made on them. They're pop punk legends to me and definitely deserve their flowers. Also, as an Indian, watching (and hearing) Dave Baksh, a brown guy shred in a major band was super inspirational to me. Representation makes a world of a difference to POC.
The thing is, they were Pop Punk for two albums (Half Hour of Power & All Killer no Filler). Does this look Infected and Chuck were VERY far from Pop imho.
Got it for Xmas when I was like... 7? Actually, my sister did lmao, we were SHOOK, not at all what I expected. I think it might be why I listen to deathcore/slam/etc. Now
@@pootassopick I would say chuck sounded nothing like the albums before. Half hour of Power, All Killer No Filller and DTLI? had a lot of pop punk influence. Chuck was much darker.
Does This Look Infected is maybe my all time favorite album by a band I otherwise don’t care about. They’re fine enough but I’ve tried to love their other albums and couldn’t care. But lord do just absolutely love DTLI
I remember when my brother bought Does This Look Infected and my mom decided (completely based on the cover art) that it was like vulgar or some crap... That was one of the best albums of my time in teens.
Was a young lad walking through Target at the tender age of 10. I saw the cover for All Killer No Filler and took a chance. My life was forever changed. Thank you Sum 41
I played ice hockey with the drummer from goldfinger and dave brownsound from sum41 years back in 04 in Canada, one of the best nights of my life such a blast , and I cant skate or play hockey, but best fun . Ive teched for Goldfinger so knew darrin through that ,
Chuck is flawless, everything Sum 41 does is great but chuck was the perfect album at the perfect time for my generation. Little bit heavier, little bit faster and solid all the way through, a perfect bridge for pop punk fans to heavier bands in the 2000s
Been a fan of this band my whole life. What has impressed me the most is how they've been able to change, but not alienate their core fanbase. They have kept a diehard fanbase for 20+ years. It's downright impressive. Also so happy for Deryck and his turnaround. For a while there in 2013, it wasn't looking good.
As someone who grew up in the 90's and began performing in the punk, emo, and metal scene in Canada during the mid 2000's, I can say with complete confidence that All Killer No Filler was an enormous deal. Their youthful and mischievous image, the skateboarding culture, the fashion, and especially the music made that album one of the biggest gateways into punk, metal and other adjacent subgenres for young Canadians at the time. To this day, the songwriting on that album is second to none.
Sum 41 is the most metal pop punk band of all time. Their cover of Master of Puppets is testament enough to that. Does This Look Infected is actually my pick for their best, with Chuck coming after, THEN All Killer.
As a 2000s skater kid I very much attached to Sum 41. More than Blink or Green Day or others in the genre. I don’t think they’ve made a single album I dislike, though I prefer their darker stuff, and DTLI is probably one of my favorite pop punk albums of all time. It was accessible in the melodic sense, but still heavy and not overly silly like some pop punk. Really helped me through depression and adolescence in general. But I definitely love it all. Underrated in their catalogue is the trio of songs that kinda blend together on Screaming Bloody Murder: Holy Image of Lies, Sick of Everyone, and Happiness machine. That album doesn’t get enough love! Thanks for the video!
The only bad part about a Brownsound solo is that they were never long enough. I tried a million times to play the one from Hooch and never could get it.
The songwriting on Underclass Hero is fantastic, a lot of the songs have the same or very similar chord progressions but the way they're put together is great, seems like a slept on album
Exactly. It lacks in musical variety so it gets boring if you just listen to it while doing other stuff but the way the storys are told on it, makes it a great listen through
Being a 90s kid abd growing up in the 2000s finding my musical taste, Sum 41 was the band that got me into music. They should be way bigger but hey they've stood the test of time.
Deryck is such a great vocalist, especially considering pop punk vocalists usually aren't all that great as singers. You can find videos of him performing in studio and he sounds fantastic, there's a recent performance of Never There that really highlights it.
Exactly!!! He could do soft ballad vocals, strong rock vocals, snotty pop punk vocals, and even did borderline hardcore and metal vocals! He even covered Killer Queen decently!!! Definitely one of my top 3 singers from the whole pop punk scene for sure.
Chuck and SBM are absolute masterpieces. I still can`t believe how good those albums are. Especially SBM. The song structures, melodies, vocal lines, it`s on another level. I still hope they would release something like that in the future.
If we’re talking technicality, then hands down, absolutely, 100% no cap. If we’re talking ability to make the best and most iconic pop punk riffs, then you could definitely argue many different ways. But yeah, Brownsound is an absolute monster of a guitarist
@@atomicpunk2360 I still wonder if it's Deryck or Dave who wrote the riffs, although maybe it is Dave 'cause Underclass Hero felt a bit lacking in sick riffage.
I respect A LOT all the insight you give about your life. That is what punk rock used to mean for me and my friends, to be honest, to have your struggles but help a brotherhood. Really going deep into your videos brother, keep up the good work!
I've always considered Sum 41 a 90's band, as Canada is always a few years behind. They broke out with a punk sound but you're crazy if you can't hear their metal roots. I remember them being the opening band for an MTV special where bands paid homage to Metallica and they slayed master of puppets.
Been rocking with Sum 41 since 2001, one of the best bands to ever do it. I’m also a much bigger fan of their pop punk style than the metal leaning stuff, but I have huge respect for them regarding the latter, it was a ballsy move for the guys who got famous off the All Killer singles to put out an album like Chuck.
I always thought they were underrated. Definitely one of my favorite bands. All the way from Half hour of Power to Order in Decline. When they would dress up like 80s rockers during shows, it was great. They are SO talented
Despite my overall taste trending toward either heavier or stranger metal, I can always go back to Chuck and love it just as much as I did in middle school. Does This Look Infected? is pretty dope too. Metally Sum 41 has aged very well. It was the perfect storm of some of the best qualities of their influences while also being distinct and accessible in way that didn't feel watered down.
The first album I ever bought was All Killer No Filler after I heard “Makes No Difference” and “Fat Lip” on a PS2 demo “MX 2002 Ft. Ricky Carmichael.” First rock band I ever listened to and the band that started the journey to the metal fan I am today. Still love Sum 41, and I’d have to say their best album was “Does This Look Infected” followed closely by “Screaming Bloody Murder.” Great video.
When I bring up Sum 41 most people talk like they're a long forgotten one hit wonder and it's such a bummer sometimes. I mean everyone knows and loves Fat Lip and In Too Deep. But they never checked out what else they had to offer because they probably only heard them from American Pie :\
Screaming bloody murderer is their most special record. Unique sound, powerful, with heavy stories behind it. As far as I know, it's also Deryck's favourite one too. But their record label ruined the whole situation: the album got zero marketing, just one song had an official music video and the brand broke up with the record company after that. I wouldn't say that it was their best album, but if I have to choose a Sum 41 record I usually end up listening to this one. Somehow it's catch you, if you let it.
I think SBM is super underrated and while it may not be their best stuff IMO I still really like the record and think it deserves more credit than it gets
Definitely my favourite album by them. Holy Image of Lies ->Sick of Everyone -> Happiness Machine is such a ridiculously good run of three songs. Jessica Kill, Skum, etc. So many good tracks.
Def agree. The songwriting on this album is ridiculously good. The melodies, the arrangements, the energy, it had it all. It's a much more mature Sum 41, but it's an album that most rock band can only dream of writing.
Indeed. Im certain making it was therapy for deryk and helped him heal , and listening to it while ones family one tried to build is exploding and being betrayed, helps process one's emotions and grief and be the best for ones children and move on to better life. amhik
I love how they do pop punk and more metal rock punk too. I really enjoy listening to both. My favorite is Chuck but also love all killer, underclass hero and look infected
I remember seeing Sun 41 at the warped tour in the "All Killer No Filler" days. Dave was shredding in between songs and the crowd then didn't really know what to do with it.
Chuck is one of my fave albums of all time and influenced everything about me as an individual to this day, that being said every album is perfect to me
People can say what they want, but Underclass Hero was by far my favorite Sum 41 album. I’ve been a fan since chuck, but UH is the one that speaks to me the most.
Does this look infected and Chuck are my favorites. ❤ I discovered this band when I was 13. I am now 33 years old and I am a metalhead. I still listen to Sum 41!
Totally agree. Never understood why people dismiss it. Mostdays I prefer it over All Killer even. So glad it got a vinyl pressing a while back, I figured it never would happen.
These guys always have been way too underrated, glad they're getting more of the recognition for being true artists in music that I always felt they deserved.
Well done with the video, Finn! It's actually really odd, yet interesting how underrated Sum 41 is. I've personally always loved Sum 41. Discovered them oddly enough while watching the 2005 Fantastic Four movie. Heard their song Noots during, if memory serves me right, the snowboarding scene. Had no idea who the band was that was playing this wicked song, but I needed to know as soon as I could! I've loved the band ever since. Chuck definitely ranks at #1 for me.
Sum 41 definitely was my gateway into metal, and I’m definitely excited for the double album since I’ve been kinda nostalgic for their more pop punk stuff lately.
Really enjoyed this video, glad to see people showing this band so much respect in the comments. My one addition to this would be that people often overlook the band's NOFX influence. They started out as a NOFX covers band. Listen to "Leave it alone" by them and tell me you can't hear that Deryck based his singing style on it.
Sum 41 was the first rock show I ever went to. I saw them in the 4th grade during the Chuck tour, they really were firing on all cylinders at that time. they were the perfect mix of pop punk with legitimate hard rock and metal influences. admittedly I stopped listening after Underclass Hero but they truly hold a special place in my heart and my musical history.
"Summer" got me into Sum 41 and I've LOVED the metal sound the band has focused on throughout their career. Though I still enjoy when Deryck gives us another softer song like "Never There" or the acoustic version of "Breaking The Chain". My favorite Sum 41 song will always be "Noots". But I would put "Chuck", "13 Voices", and "Does This Look Infected?" in my top 3 albums. Thanks for the video!
Dude i'm so glad someone says this. I have been saying forever that i always saw them as the most talented poppunk band. Just because they were poppunk with all the catchy hooks we love but with much more skilled musicians behind it who can play more than just powerchords. That in turn leads to a more varied and better written repertoire. Tons of respect for these guys.
Sum-41 was always my preferred choice over blink. I connected with them in ways I didn't with other bands. I felt like they grew with me in my musical tastes over time. I'm definitely that fan that holds Chuck as the high mark but love everything they've done. Tho unrelated in genre, they're up there with Linkin Park and Avenged Sevenfold as one of my all time favorite bands.
I'd put Sum 41 ahead of Linkin Park and Avenged Sevenfold easily! These are the only non pop punk bands that I love. I'd put Yellowcard ahead of A7X because I like Yellowcard more than A7X, but they're still awesome! Linkin Park used to be in my top 15, but I had The Moody Blues, Bad Religion, and Dokken got in the way. And A7X are easily in my top 25.
The amazing things about the Punk Rock, is that you related to every single song. Some were silly and ridiculous, humorous, and some downright dark. They hit you with emotions, not just words.
Sum 41 has been one of my favorites since I was a teenager. I've honestly fully enjoyed everything they've put out, even their newer stuff, and I feel like Deryck still displays his musical talent as he matures, very different from someone like Blink 182 who floated in my same iPod playlists back in high school.
There are songs on all of those albums that I like. Whether it's the angsty "Fat Lip", the light catchiness of "In Too Deep", or the darker tone of "Pieces" and "With Me", I feel like a song is good if it sticks with you and creates an emotion inside of you, and each of these songs and many more from Sum 41 do just that. More than anything, they bring back great memories of high school and college when times were simpler.
When you mentioned that Sum 41 are innovative and influential because of the fusion of pop punk and metal with a little bit of rap, I felt that I agree but immediately thought of Zebrahead which is straight up a band that fuses even more genres, they have a singing lead vocalist and a rapper (pop punk, rapcore, heavy and thrash metal, ska punk), and they never got the attention they deserved and I'm not even sure If you know Zebrahead, because I never heard you mention them ever before. I hope that this comment will resonate with other people here too. I think you should do a video of the strange history of Zebrahead
Me and one of my best friends are the only people I know that know and enjoy Zebrahead A LOT. I do think they are one the most underrated bands ever. Damn, their songs always have good and catchy choruses in a consistency I've never seen with any other band in the genre. And they're also very productive as well. They may sound a little repetitive after a while, but I still love everything they released. Btw, Sum 41 is my fav band ever and I'm glad Finn finally did a video about them.
I was just going to make a comment about them until i saw this. I love Zebrahead! Waste of Mind and MFZB are amazing albums, also showing two different sides to them with the first being more funky and hip-hoppy party music and the latter more serious and emotional stuff. Great songwriting and musicianship on both. Plus catchy as all hell.
I was practicing "Someday" on guitar just last night. Zebrahead are kind of one of pop-punk's best kept secrets. I didn't really keep up after Justin left, but those first three albums are fantastic.
My favourite band, so so underrated. Every album slaps, they dont have one bad song. I love them with my whole heart. Ive been to their concert twice and had the best time. The interaction with crowd was amazing, whole band was smiling the whole time and the energy!! EVERYONE was jumping and singing, minimum people with phones, just having a great time. Nothing but love for these guys!
I was a pre-teen at the time, and once I heard Fat Lip on Much Music I was hooked. Definitely a stepping stone into heavier music, nu-metal came to me soon after, and now I listen to 'extreme' metal. Was always a bigger fan of their heavier songs, like Still Waiting. Lost interest when Dave left and the albums after Chuck sucked imo. Does This Look Infected? is my favourite.
I found Sum 41 through the first Spider-Man movie where they had a music video in the bonus stuff, they were actually the first music artist I ever found I liked. Later I got the Chuck album and played that thing to death. I haven't really kept up with them recently but I always enjoy going back every once in a while.
we have exact opposite responses to this band lol I absolutely love when they go metal, and im not at all into their pop punk sound. I def grew out of that early 00s pop punk but I'll still listen to Sum every once in a while.
I only discovered them during my university days 6 years ago but they quickly become my favorite band ever. I still can't find any vocalists that have the same feel as Deryck to this day P.S I agree that Chuck (which is my number 1) and OID are the best albums they have ever released. Not a knock on DTLI?, AKNF, and the other albums though. I still listen to them regularly, especially UH. It's nice that Sum 41 have pretty much any sounds for everyone
Screaming bloody murder and order in decline are my favorites of them. They both have brilliant pace changes, which I think is an important earmark of the best metal music around. In a recent interview deryck said that sum 41’s next album will a double album that’s half pop-punk, half metal. It’ll be brilliant.
I've been wanting to see these guys live since I was 12. Last weekend, at 23 years of age, I finally saw them live at Rock Werchter. Loved it, only wish they performed a bit later in the day, and performed a few other songs. But I still loved it, I love this band, I hope I get to see them more.
"and performed a few other songs." Saw them in Toronto and thought the exact same thing lol. They did perform some super old school songs like Summer because it was the 22 anniversary of half of hour of power which hyped up the dude a few seats beside me like crazy. That's the problem though, they have waaay to many good songs and if they did perform all of them, it would be like 4-5 hour set.
This was one of the first bands that got me into rock/metal, and until this day Screaming Bloody Murder is one of my favourite albums. Really looking forward to their double album, but I'm also a little concerned about them doing another pop punk record. Also saw them live 3 times, they are still pretty amazing.
With Brownsound in the band, I personally think the pop punk part of the double album will be leagues better than Underclass Hero, which is personally my least favorite Sum 41 record.
Thanks for making a SUM 41 video, they really deserve more credit than they get. But also, thanks to you for making this videos about specific artists like The Offspring, Good Charlotte and now this. I am from Buenos Aires, Argentina and a little bit younger than this bands normal audience, so getting all this context and cool stories from all these bands and the perspective from someone who knows and clearly lived through this era in the US is really cool. Keep'em coming!
It would be really nice to see a Video about how music videos changed Pop Punk. Bands like Sum 41, Blink 182, Good Charlotte really blew up because of them. And after thst with youtube it was really a drive to keep them alive through the 2010s
This was a great breakdown of an amazing band. Thanks for putting in the work, man. As a slightly younger fan, I really enjoyed seeing a time lapse of Sum 41's career
When I was a teenager I went on a houseboat trip with my parents for two weeks and forgot to bring my CD wallet with me, so the only album I had to listen to the entire time was All Killer No Filler. I never got sick of it and still think that album is fucking great. I still play Hell Song and Over My Head on my guitar on a regular basis because they are the perfect blend of oldschool metal and modern pop punk and just so much fun to play.
Seeing this 2 years later it’s interesting to see the released a top ten song and became the band with the longest span between songs that hit #1 on the alt chart. 21 years between fat lip and landmines.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention that Sum 41 is working on a double album called “heaven and hell” which one half is pop punk and the other is metal. It seams like the perfect end to your video and the thesis throughout it.
Although he didn't mention it outright, at 17:23 he showed part of a Louder article that was discussing it. Maybe he ran out of time on the vid and cut it out
Warms my heart to see how many people acknowledging how good of musicians they actually are, and always have been. When AKNF dropped, I was 8 and it was the first CD I ever listened to from beginning to end. Can honestly say few things have had an impact on my life like that album. Fat Lip was the song my wife and I walked out to at our wedding reception. IMHO, it’s the best pop punk song of all time. They deserve so much more credit than they get (as mentioned, finally getting more). They are one of the best live acts you can ever see and even now in their 40’s, they still bring an immense amount of energy that few can bring to this day. Can’t wait for their new album.
I saw Sum 41 in Ontario with my mom and cousin after the first album. I remember a girl sitting by the sound guy “hey you want a drink?” And my mom comes from nowhere “HES 13!!!!” Lmfao
Sum 41 will always be one of my favorite bands started listening to them when I was around 12 I'm now 32 and just saw them two days ago at the myth in Minnesota and they're still kicking ass! Phenomenal show by the way, I'd highly recommend seeing these guys on tour. I did have to call in the following day to work though because I jacked my neck up in the pit 🤣
I've always loved the obvious Iron Maiden influence, especially in the guitar sound. Maiden made their success injecting original punk attitude into their early metal influences and Sum 41 made their success injecting Maiden into their punk origins. The circle of life, or something eh?
Commenting after the retirement announcement: I love your assessment of their albums and have no notes in that regard. I wish them well and hope to scream bloody murder at the show with them on their final tour. If I don't see you again, may the pit be merciful and abundant.
Screaming Bloody Murder never seems to get the love that it deserves. Deryck's lyrics are so thoughtful and heartfelt on that album, plus that's where his voice really comes into his own imo. But the thing that really stands out to be about that album is the way that quite a few of the songs stray from the traditional verse/chorus structure, going for something a little more experimental. Not to say that it's proggy, but it struck me as pretty profound for a band associated with pock punk. Outside of some of Green Day's songs during their rock opera phase, I hadn't really heard another band of the same genre do something like that. I guess what I'm trying to say is listen to SBM for fuck's sake, that album means the world to me and got me through one of the shittest times in my life.
I grew up in the same town that these guys are from and my parents actually still live there (Ajax,Ontario,Canada). I remember when “All Killer No Filler” came out, being in 8th grade and the album being sold out at every store in the area. The stores couldn’t keep them in stock. A lot of people hated on them but they definitely inspired a lot of kids in the area to start bands and at one time we had a really great music scene here and quite a few small local venues that had all ages shows every weekend and had a lot of great local bands. I’ve always been a big supporter of these guys and am happy that they’re still going strong after all these years.
Underclass hero, while I loved it in highschool when it came out, I quickly grew tired of it, and was excited for screaming bloody murder, it also fell flat for me. Easily my two least favorite albums of theirs. Loved their last 2 albums, and does this look infected has always been my favorite. Totally realized I still don't have a copy of Chuck, and I'm deeply disturbed by that 😭
My first show ever was Sum41 when they were still touring for all killer No filler. I owe this band so much. They were the reason that got me in to "real" punk, metal, and hardcore. I first saw them with the Canadian hardcore band No Warning opening for them. Being an addict and alcoholic myself I look up to Deryk alot. He overcame his demons and came back stronger than ever!
Great video! Thanks for the blast into the past. I was a Sum fan since Grab the devil by the horns. Those guys were a huge part of my growth from Punk/pop-punk into metal and you really hit the analysis of this band on the head. I must've watched the DVDs from Does this Look Infected a hundred times. Now I've got to go dig out my Chuck CD...
I met Dave in the mid 2000s, we got into a conversation about “pain for pleasure” and I encouraged him to do an entire album in that genre. He said he was trying to influence the band to move in that direction while they wanted to “play it safe”, Dave’s words. He told me he was planning his exit from Sum to start a metal band. I was surprised when it actually happened.

Little bit heavier, little bit faster and solid all the way through, a perfect bridge for pop punk fans to heavier bands in the 2000s
amen!
Yeah re listening to chuck it truly is their masterpiece. The metal and punk balance was so good for that album and the album had such a crazy variety
Should be mentioned how great these guys are live, they pull the audience in so easily and are very tight.
To this day, the songwriting on that album is second to none.
ya im born 91 and our whole year was influenced by all killer no filler and blink 182 dude ranch, skateboarding, jackass stuff
Sum 41 is the most metal pop punk band of all time. Their cover of Master of Puppets is testament enough to that. Does This Look Infected is actually my pick for their best, with Chuck coming after, THEN All Killer.
For sure.
I've always thought The Bitter End was a direct homage to Metallica's Battery
I’m exact same. 🎉
Dave coming out of the water ripping that solo is still nearly as chill-inducing as when I first saw it as like a 15-year-old. Absolutely incredible.
The only bad part about a Brownsound solo is that they were never long enough. I tried a million times to play the one from Hooch and never could get it.
nah my uncle killed that shit
Why is bro acting like the dude playing that very mid solo is like Slash in November Rain
The guitarist coming out if the water rocked to me to and I was 19 when I saw it .
Just discovered this channel…nice material man
The songwriting on Underclass Hero is fantastic, a lot of the songs have the same or very similar chord progressions but the way they're put together is great, seems like a slept on album
Exactly. It lacks in musical variety so it gets boring if you just listen to it while doing other stuff but the way the storys are told on it, makes it a great listen through
Underclass Hero is def slept on. It is so good.
Fnnnf
Have you heard him covering the catalyst live with mike shinoda? He's just great.
I really like his vocals in "catching fire acoustic". Man's got a great voice.
Hes also a great music producer. The man is just a talent powerhouse
Chuck and SBM are absolute masterpieces. I still can`t believe how good those albums are. Especially SBM. The song structures, melodies, vocal lines, it`s on another level. I still hope they would release something like that in the future.
I still think Dave Brown was one of the best guitarist in the genre hands down.
If we’re talking technicality, then hands down, absolutely, 100% no cap. If we’re talking ability to make the best and most iconic pop punk riffs, then you could definitely argue many different ways.
But yeah, Brownsound is an absolute monster of a guitarist
@@atomicpunk2360 I still wonder if it's Deryck or Dave who wrote the riffs, although maybe it is Dave 'cause Underclass Hero felt a bit lacking in sick riffage.
my uncle Dave was a monsterrr, you might not believe me but he is 😂
I respect A LOT all the insight you give about your life.
Get ready for heaven and hell! It's a double album going back to pop punk and metal
This band has always been under appreciated. I love all their stuff
Gotta echo this is my favourite album too.
Beautiful
Sun?
@@corruptpx bro it's a typo don't be an idiot. If that confused you then I mean, god damn man.
Fabulous video! Love Sum41 and your stuff!!
Chuck is one of my fave albums of all time and influenced everything about me as an individual to this day, that being said every album is perfect to me
Chuck is such a great album
Chuck is full of underrated songs.
People can say what they want, but Underclass Hero was by far my favorite Sum 41 album. I’ve been a fan since chuck, but UH is the one that speaks to me the most.
Sum 41 had a huge impact on my life and musical history. Even though I don't like their newer stuff, they'll always have a special place in my life.
Does this look infected and Chuck are my favorites. ❤ I discovered this band when I was 13.
I am now 33 years old and I am a metalhead.
I still listen to Sum 41!
Half Hour of Power is CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED. Such an amazing album.
Already on its own it’s a friken great pop punk album
I still love this ep
Totally agree. Never understood why people dismiss it. Mostdays I prefer it over All Killer even. So glad it got a vinyl pressing a while back, I figured it never would happen.
I 100% agree the album has some of their best songs it's pop punk at its best. Why people dismiss is as some kind of demo is beyond me.
When you make videos like this, I get In my feelings of growing up in the late 90s/early 2000s.
Same. Where tf did that time go? Scary.
Without Sum 41, I would have had 0 interest in rock music, they were the band that grabbed my attention
I'm like
1. Linkin Park
2. Paramore
3. MCR
4. Sum 41
The amazing things about the Punk Rock, is that you related to every single song. Some were silly and ridiculous, humorous, and some downright dark. They hit you with emotions, not just words.
For me I struggle to split “All killer, No Filler” & “Underclass Hero” as my favourite album from them. Those two albums are pure perfection.
Underclass hero is so underrated, that was always one of my favorites too
I agree the songwriting is fantastic. I also like half ourbof power. Other albums for me have been hit and miss.
Chuck and does this look infected is miles better than both 💀
they do have given a lot more songs in UH, i'll give you that, and it sounds more mature. I'd rate it 3rd best. then DTLI
Underclass hero for me.
This is one of the few punk rock bands I keep going back to but never understood quite why. This video (no pun intended) sums up pretty well why I do.
Sum 41 is one of my favorite bands! Deryk is a very underrated singer imo and my favorite albums has always been No Killer, Underclass Hero and Chuck
Yeah but number bands are passe'. It makes them seem out of touch. How about this: the Sums. Eh?
Underclass hero is my favorite album from them followed by does this look infected. I’m rly surprised how the fans didn’t like as much lol
They didn't waste their time becoming casualties of society.
These guys are the reason im into metal today.
Yes please!!! Zebrahead were awesome!
Plus catchy as all hell.
strange history of zebrahead is such a good idea
Does This Look Infected? is my favourite.
seeing these types of videos always catch me off guard since i’m so used to cone being my uncle that i forget how amazing his music is
I found Sum 41 through the first Spider-Man movie where they had a music video in the bonus stuff, they were actually the first music artist I ever found I liked. Later I got the Chuck album and played that thing to death. I haven't really kept up with them recently but I always enjoy going back every once in a while.
I used to be friends with their friend who contacted HIV and I had no idea that song was about her. That's crazy. She seems to be doing great btw.
Glad to hear she’s good!
Sum 41 has been my favorite band since Fat Lip released when I was in 7th grade. They will be forever. Legends
I got "Does This Look Infected" when it came out and have loved it since.
That album has chops
Absolute giants of the genre who deserve all the respect we can give them and more
Please. Sum 41 were just discount Blink.
we have exact opposite responses to this band lol I absolutely love when they go metal, and im not at all into their pop punk sound. I def grew out of that early 00s pop punk but I'll still listen to Sum every once in a while.
When metal bands went pop
Sum 41 went metal
I haven’t watched this yet. But man, I used to jam to sum 41 24/7 back in early 2000s. Best days of my life. Now let’s watch this video.
I only discovered them during my university days 6 years ago but they quickly become my favorite band ever. I still can't find any vocalists that have the same feel as Deryck to this day
P.S I agree that Chuck (which is my number 1) and OID are the best albums they have ever released.
"and performed a few other songs."
Saw them in Toronto and thought the exact same thing lol. They did perform some super old school songs like Summer because it was the 22 anniversary of half of hour of power which hyped up the dude a few seats beside me like crazy. That's the problem though, they have waaay to many good songs and if they did perform all of them, it would be like 4-5 hour set.
@@thekaiser1156 they didn't perform anything from Screaming Bloody murder. Or even from their last 2 albums, which was unfortunate.
We're All To Blame is one of my favorite songs of all time. Not just of Sum 41's catalogue. It has a lot of layers, takes you for a ride.

Commenting after the retirement announcement:
I love your assessment of their albums and have no notes in that regard.
I love the trinity of holy image of lies, sick of everyone, and happiness machine…amazing blend of three songs!
It reminded me a little bit of MCR’s stuff
I grew up in the same town that these guys are from and my parents actually still live there (Ajax,Ontario,Canada). I remember when “All Killer No Filler” came out, being in 8th grade and the album being sold out at every store in the area. The stores couldn’t keep them in stock. A lot of people hated on them but they definitely inspired a lot of kids in the area to start bands and at one time we had a really great music scene here and quite a few small local venues that had all ages shows every weekend and had a lot of great local bands. I’ve always been a big supporter of these guys and am happy that they’re still going strong after all these years.
They’re such a good live band they sand exactly like their recordings it’s actually so Fucking impressive
No Warning rips
