    Wow! I’m excited to see so many comments about the Squier Contemporary. I have one (it’s one of 3 Jags I have) and it is a fantastic guitar. Build quality is first class. The flexibility with the coil splits gives an enormous number of combinations. I bought 19 new guitars in the past year (true - a healthy means of working through trauma in my life) - Epiphones, Squiers, Gretschs mostly and a MIM Fender Jag. The Squier contemporary is in my top 3 amongst that group. It was my entry into Jaguars and I’ve since bought another two (a MIM Vintera and a Squier 70s). They’re all great. The Squier Contemporary are selling for ridiculously low prices (about $650 in Australia which is about one third of the price of the MIM Vintera. I’m tempted to get another and do a mashup with the another Squier Jag keeping some of the traditional Jag features like the tremolo and pairing it with the hunbuckers and circuitry of the contemporary.

    • @davidharding200
      @davidharding200 2 года назад +1

      I don’t agree. I have one in shoreline gold. I don’t see any ‘need’ to change the pick ups as you say you ‘had’ to. There’s no doubt the more you spend on pickups the better they will be and more expensive pickups will have more clarity and give an entirely different character to the guitar. So I get you might have decided to do that - but for anyone reading this and interested in the Squier Contemporary Jaguar it’s not ‘necessary’ to change the pickups.

    • @alanpettibone
      @alanpettibone 2 года назад +1

      @@davidharding200 Well, I did feel the need to replace them as I felt they were muddy and uninspiring. The only reason I bought the guitar was that I loved the finish and knew I could make it sound much better with only some minor changes. If I were blindfolded and played it, I doubt I would have bought it.

    • @davidharding200
      @davidharding200 2 года назад

      @@alanpettibone ok well each to their own. It is muddy compared to the pickups of my MIM Vintera Jaguar. But until I had that I found it really, really good. I still enjoy it enormously. But no doubt a spend on better pickups would improve the guitar.

    Definitely seems to be a very sleek modern instrument. I'd personally prefer something that at least stuck to jaguar style pickups and scale length though.
    At the price point, you're well on your way towards the likes of Tom Anderson, LSL, Luxxtone, or Suhr for a retro-modern F-style guitar.

    Great demo Phil, very thorough. I liked the sounds with gain, less so the cleans. I agree it's not a Jaguar but still a cool guitar. I've a Squier VM Jaguar with mods (Fender vintage 65 pu's, tremolo, Staytrem Bridge & arm, Tusq nut) & it's a complete joy. I always wondered why Fender still haven't nailed the Jaguar. They have micro tilt necks Custom Shop bridges (the best Jag/Jazzmaster bridge going) & various phase & switching options - but they've not pulled them all together. I wonder what developments Leo would've incorporated today?

    I like a lot of the specs of this guitar. The neck looks really nice and the pickups sounded awesome: really smooth on the neck, nice and pucnhy with the bridge. Interesting about the vol control drop-off.
    Ultimately it's a little weird, as many have noted, for Fender to have celebrated 60 years of the Jag by putting out something that is quite categorically not a jag. It's clearly a quality instrument and I think the price is fair but it's a bit of a mystery as to who it was primarily aimed at.

Wish they kept the 24 inch scale or kept some of the cool circuitry of the traditional jag to make it a little more unique.
