    I’ve only watched a couple of your vlogs but really enjoy them. Very informative and fun to watch with some great advice to boot. When a manufacturer gives you a list of things you need to complete a project they always forget to include an ounce or two of Jack Daniels to help the nerves. Being a new subscriber I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your channel, looking forward to more vlogs. God bless.

    Excellent choice on the belt brand and style. Try using aerospace 303 to condition old belts in the future. Just spray the belt with the engine running and you will be amazed how effective it is.

    When you have the belt off, spin the tension and idler pulleys to make sure they don’t squeak or have bad bearings.

    Dodge as a farm beater is a-OK, but as someone who likes to tinker on things, you really should put a few bucks into the $100.00 Ford and fix her up. Little body work, fresh coat of paint and Stoney Ridge Farms logo on the doors..she is a classic and would make a heck of a daily driver.

    Call me lazy, but I have had all the same issues in my 01 diesel that i have not fixed. My thinking was it too difficult or expensive for a 400k work truck. Watching this video and how easy it was makes me want to fix the issues. Especially the drink tray when you throw an extra large drink in there. Thank you for doing most of the work for me, Josh, in finding those links. Only other thing I gotta fix is the honey comb grill. Almost all the plastic tabs are broken and its flops.

    Nice little farm truck for doing chores around the farm...Continental Elite belts are nice as they do solve a lot of belt squeak noise from usually misaligned pulley....fixed my chevy Tahoe with belt squeak....These dash caps are nice cheap alternative to make 2nd gen look a lot better....agree it looks awful whether it farm truck or not with broken dash.

  • @RhettyforHistory
    @RhettyforHistory 7 лет назад

    Wow! They were rough on that truck! I have a 99 and my dash is cracked but it's not missing anything like that. That was a quick install though. My Dodge has power locks that don't work anymore. It makes the noise but doesn't push them up or down. Also the heated mirrors don't work. On the outside the trucks a little rough but I like it that way. Trucks are definitely meant to be used.

    Give Gates Fleet Belts a try. Most parts stores carry them. They're the green ones. Lot of guys swear by'em! Also let the belt get some heat in it before spraying the Belt Conditioner on them. A good ole bar of soap works better though.

    Dash cover fits so well..."let it settle in" period may last a Loooong time, as crater is now covered. Your plastic gets brittle due to UV exposure CONSTANT. Windshield shade inside will help, when NEW.

    Hey josh, saw you were having problems with the transmission. Dad's got a 1999, bought new. Having trans problems starting about 7 years ago. Removed battery terminals every few months. About 6 months ago, ran a #10 ground wire from neg battery terminal to the transmission controller on the firewall. No more problems. We live in Rockingham county. Hopes this helps.

      On the 1999 2500 ram with cummings, the transmission controller is on the passenger side firewall. Under the rubber strip right above the transmission fluid dipstick there is a body bolt. the transmission controller is grounded to that bolt. Run a ground wire from that bolt to the neg terminal on your battery. Dad's been fighting transmission shifting problems for 6 years. This seems to have solved it. Good luck

  • @kerrymullins8684

    Dash pad is going to look great. I see screw holes at the windshield on the new one, if you haven't done it yet I would either remove the old dash at the windshield or take out the screws, silicone the old pieces that are there so you won't have them rattling on the bottom of the new dash. They look pretty lose and that will create noise.
    I'm like you, I want all the dash stuff to be as it is supposed to be.

    I just subbed to your channel. Like you the 2nd Gen is my favorite. Those Continental belts are the best for our trucks a difference of night and day. I will need new headlights soon, but I was most impressed with that dash cover. Currently i have a cover I bought from Geno's Garage and simply put it's absolute garbage. The problem with the 94-97 is that the lower assembly and bezel is made out of the same brittle plastic. Replacement bezel yep, replacement lower NOPE! If nothing else I wish dash skins were made for the lower assembly as well. Soon I'll remove the old crap cover with with a dash skin. $140 is far better than the $300 factory dash and less of a hassle.

May have to point him towards Dash Skins. His has the 5.9 gas engine it as well and it has proven to be a very reliable truck. • @richardherrick7027
    @richardherrick7027 7 лет назад

    Something I've found that makes it super easy to find a bad pulley is to simply spray water directly on the pulley it's easiest if you have a spray bottle that you can make a straight stream and just spray towards the center of the pulley if the squeak goes away you know that's your problem. Or just to remove the serpentine belt and check for any movement or noise when you spin the pulleys including your alternator it shouldn't be loose but might make a gravely noise when you spin it

    Man that dash cover made it look a million times better, that belt squeel is apparently pretty common on these trucks, my dad's 98 ram sometime does the same, maybe it is just needing a new belt. Mine is the older style 94-97 style but there's sadly probably not enough surface area left for one of these covers to even sit right on....got me thinking how can I engineer something to basically act as support stands so I CAN get one of these covers in my truck, maybe some spare blocks of wood gorilla glued down to act as support pillers for the new cover. I wish I could post a pic here my dash looks really sad and sorry with nothing left really in my 95 ram. They really seemed to cheap out with brittle plastic on these interiors

  • @joepostles7539
    @joepostles7539 7 лет назад +5

    Belt dressing has to be sprayed n the metal surface of the pulley. You should have put the can on an angle between the fan and the pulley"WITH THE ENGINE OFF", and wet each pulley thoroughly. Then run the motor and let the inside of the belt get wet. Stop the engine and let the belt soak. I don't think you read the instruction on the can, before using it. You wasted the stuff ! Unless you glue that dash cover down all the way around, "REALLY SOLID" the chattering rattle when driving will set your teeth on edge. I always enjoy your videos. I also expect that cheap plastic drop down cup holder will chatter if you have it down without anything in it for weight. Dodge reall blew it on the interiors of their trucks. I guess they had to cut costs to allow for the massive grill / hood combo. But, for your benefit. IT'S A CHEAP BEAT AROUND THE FARM VEHICLE.

Water gets inside from the dust cover and rusts. I have changes a few out. They just get louder and louder over time.

    Again, when you take the belt off spin all the pulleys, if they feel rough or make any noise replace them too.

    Hey my friend, with engine off, sprinkle baby powder around belt where pulley meets, doesn't take a lot, it will purr like a kitten. It will last as long as it stays dry. Moisture will cause it to chirp again.

    When driving 70 miles /Hr does the old dash rattle under the new one and turn rattle the new one going over uneven roads.Just asking,not looking for imperfections. I just bought a 1998 Ram 1500 with cracked dash also.

      No rattle unless I'm driving down a really bumpy road

    Get a $5 mechanic's stethoscope from Harbor Freight. The Magnum motors often have timing chain noise that can sound like front pulley chatter. Some years of the 5.9 Magnum V8s have a timing chain tensioner, you can add one if it was not so equipped. All of the 3.9 Magnums had the tension because that motor shakes more than the similar V8s.

    The dash skin is nice, but then again a beach towel would've made it look nice... lol
