      @DisabledDragon 2 года назад +55

      Yeah, I disagree with their rule on dating, but in another context, without everything else the mom says and does, that's something I could maybe at least somewhat respect as being a parental choice that is theirs to make. But "she better not have a crush," aside from being unrealistic, feels like going beyond trying to control behavior into trying to control emotion and thought, which is just....no.
      (I really hope this does not come across as me saying anything else that mother did was okay, because I don't. This just seems like a whole extra level of bad.)

    • @ThexDynastxQueen
      @ThexDynastxQueen 2 года назад +54

      I wouldn't have minded the 18 rule if it wasn't due to sexism as if nothing can ever go wrong with boys dating unless a parent is basically admitting "Whatever my son does is actually the girl's fault". It's all so absurd and just kills my empathy even without the dog plot point.

    So basically the moral of the video is reward your helicopter parent when they resort to bribery and stalking your personal life? The ending feels like a complete copout to what came before, even down to the brother who seemed to be on the mom's side. This is even worse than the video Dhar Mann made where he justified parental neglect by saying "because he's a good parent to other children that makes it okay to emotionally walk out on you and throw you away, leaving you with financial struggles".. I don't get why mothers are always portrayed so negatively or in the wrong a lot of the times.

      I think the worst parents in a Dhar Man video is the one where the kids are difficult for the babysitter, so she conspires with the parents to scare the sh*t out of the kids, the parents do a fake murder of the babysitter, fake blood and all, the parents are dressed as clowns which they know the kids are scared of and then stalk/hunt/torment their kids around the house, making them afraud for their life that they are going to get murdered like the babysitter was, way to give those kids PTSD!

    Okay, I know we can all agree that this video was hugely problematic for MANY reasons, but can I just say how much it pissed me off that they replaced the mom's dog without her knowledge a WEEK after the original dog got put down? And the mom was so upset about it too! Pets aren't replaceable toys, they're beloved family members and it's completely natural to go through the grieving process when you lose one. For some people that takes years and for others it's a much shorter time frame before they're ready to get another pet (especially if it helps them with their grief), but I think literally everyone can agree that a week is WAY too short a time frame.

It's just a sun dress. And they turn the fact that the sun was dating at 15 but the daughter has to be older to have permission into a joke (she's clearly a young adult, wtf) - it's really not funny, none of the gross double standards and sexism in this video are funny. The dog is the least of the issues for me, it's a family and they live in the same home, the mother likely talked about how she planned to get another dog or said they couldn't have 2 dogs at the same time - there's a lot of reasons why they may have been aware she wanted a dog.

Besides being a companion he was my ESA and I was obviously devastated after losing him. Getting another dog wasn’t discussed until weeks later. And it was a few months until I got a puppy and even then I still feel bad because I was emotionally despondent with her for the first few months of having her. She is my service animal now and I’m very blessed to have her but if my family would have just brought me another dog and named it for me and everything I would have a breakdown right then and there lol. Please never surprise someone with an animal after they lost one. They MUST make that decision for themselves and be emotionally ready for it. Apologies for the rant I’m just appalled lol

    i think gifting a pet is fine if someone specifically asked for a dog and ask you to buy one for them. but don’t give a surprise pet without confirming that someone wants it
    like i got my dog for Christmas but i didn’t lose a pet and i specifically asked for my dog

    • @cloudly_cane1534
      @cloudly_cane1534 2 года назад +13

      Exactly. Pets are not just gifts, they’re living things that should be prepped for before going to get one.
      To just toss one in like it’s nothing with no warning just seems so wild to me. If a person has been wanting to get a pet forever, and clearly capable of taking care of one, I’d say then it’s okay to get a pet as a gift.
      I don’t understand how some people can just get whatever animal, put it in a box, and go “Hey! This living organism is YOUR problem now, who cares if you’re not ready to take care of one?! It’s cute! You MUST be happy!” Like bro- wtf.

      giving pets as gifts is fine imo as long as the person getting the pet already knows and is prepared. like my brothers cat (it was really the family cat, but he loved my brother so much we considered it his) died last year, and my mom asked him if he'd want another cat for his birthday. he said yes and we love our new cat so much

      Yea, my dog was technically a birthday gift. I didn’t get him on my birthday but it was around the time of my birthday and he was like my big gift that my parents spent most of the birthday budget on. But I’ve wanted a dog for as long as I remember, I’ve been begging for a pet dog since I was like 3. And like I wasn’t just like surprise gifted him, my family visited the breeder and we met the dogs first and I picked out a dog that I got along well with. So I knew about the whole thing from the very beginning.

    "No dating until you're 18" is actually really dangerous because your child will have no experience with relationships until they are an adult when the rest of the dating pool has had past relationships. This could lead to your child not recognizing red flags or being easily taken advantage of. If your child does date behind your back and something happens to them they wont come to you for help and they'll dig themselves into a bigger hole trying to hide it from you.

    • @libbybollinger5901
      @libbybollinger5901 2 года назад +26

      I mean, I don’t think it’s strictly dangerous to not date until you’re after 18. It’s p common for that to happen even without any dating restrictions. Though I do definitely agree with you that it’s dangerous to make it so that your child, at an age where dating is still quite common, feels the need to hide who they’re dating from you, and wouldn’t feel comfortable going to you if they needed help.

    • @MaddyBlu9724
      @MaddyBlu9724 Год назад +8

      This is a really weird and bad take. Not because I support the idea of forbidding your kids from dating but your rationale is bizarre. For starters its honestly kind of victim blamey to imply that toxic/abusive relationships happen cause the other person didnt have enough past relationship experience to see "red flags" or whatever. People have bad relationships regardless of there level of past experience. Also lots and lots of people whos parents didnt restrict them still dont date until 18 or even much later, its really rude to talk about that whole group as if they are too dumb and naive to date "safely."

    Previous vet tech here. It’s pretty common to get another dog after losing one (or even before the elder/sick one passes) because the emptiness of the house really hurts. If she missed caring for a dog and having that love, I get the “surprise” because it’s not too “surprising” if she told them that she would want another dog. Granted, in my personal opinion, a week is pretty soon. However it’s similar to people getting a dog before losing the other one, so I get it.

My mother just said what ever age you want to date sweety. Then I said. "Well then I choose to date at 13!" My mother just shrugged. "13 it is then". I was a little surprised at the time since all my friends where not allowed to date. I didn't realize until after high school how nice of parents I had with how easy going they were. 23:28 This! I remember the family dog we’d owned since I was a baby had to be put down at 15 years old, and then a few months later my mom and little sister picked me up on my first day of sophomore year with a new dog I had no idea about. Nine years later, even though I love them all I haven’t had a say in getting any of the family pets that we’ve had since. The cycle goes “family pet dies, everyone else in the family agrees on getting a new pet and doesn’t even talk to me about it, gets a new pet without considering if I was emotionally ready to have another pet that soon after one died, hopes I won’t be mad at them, another pet dies” and then the cycle starts all over again.

I need pets in my life because home doesn't feel like home without one. But I was ready to have another pet. The cats I have rn are NOT replacement, they are different little beings and I need to take care of them accordingly.

People watched for MINUTES doing nothing until I was like fuck it - I'm a 4' 11" teenager (at the time) but this is horrifying and I can't watch anymore, so just got the emergency number dialed up in case and started walking towards them. Only then did several grown ass men follow me to actually help. I think that was the day I stopped believing in empathy 🙃 It still fills me with rage. I don’t think surprise pets are a good thing. Pets are a lot of responsibility, and people shouldn’t give them as gifts, without the other person being ok with it. I currently have a disabled, elderly cat who has nasal carcinoma. I have invested so much love, time, and money into him. I’ve spent money that I don’t have for operations and to be seen by specialists. Granted, he’s a special case, but pets can have issues, sometimes that develop later, and need to be given a lot of care and time. Only the person getting the pet knows if they can take on that responsibility. I know that after my cat passes it’s going to take me a while before I can even think about getting another pet. Not only because it will be so painful, but I’ll need time to recover financially. Also, certain animals don’t work in certain households. Some animals are good around other animals and some prefer to be the only other pet in the household. Some pets in shelters may have underlying issues, especially if they came from bad situations, and they may need extra care. I think it’s important for the person getting the pet to choose the pet when and if they want one.

    If done in a healthy way with communication and clarification a dating rule can work (simply saying "no" and "you're just too young" isn't enough). Letting the son date way younger than the daughter and spying on her when she spends time with anyone is definitely not the healthy way. Imagine being so controlling your kids rely on it to plan a surprise.
    Also I have a HUGE problem with the whole "wearing something revealing" when she literally allowed her to have the dress. It's fine to have rules about modesty but you can't buy her clothes and then tell her she can only wear them in specific events. Dhar Mann didn't have to make it so problematic, they literally could have had her be super dressed up and have them comment that she's put in way more effort than she usually does so is she trying to impress someone.
    Also everyone has said this already but man please do not get someone a surprise pet under any circumstances, especially if it's to replace a deceased pet. Maybe just...make a scrapbook of the dog and take her to a movie lol

    This video is really bad, but I from what I saw the Brent Rivera one looked WAAAY worse because the people in that video were actually adults (he said the sister was 20). I have no clue why Brent would agree to film that lol

    My emotionally inept (+ a lot of other bad descriptors) stepfather decided we should get a new dog a day after putting our previous dog, Bear, down. He also insisted on naming the new one Bear Jr 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 My mom and I were against it but he was one of those "What I say goes" men 🙃

    Wait so how much younger is the sister and are the brothers friends his age making them also 18? Cause that's something worth discussing

      I’m assuming she’s supposed to be like 16 so it’s only a 2 year difference. That’s like a normal age difference at that age.

    Something that changed my life: walmart and the dollar tree sells two packs of forks for like a buck each.
    I used to get so mad at myself for never having clean forks but always having plenty of spoons and butter knives, but now I just have a million forks.

    I'm a dog trainer and omg that poor dog was so stressed! And I agree with lets not give dogs (or any pet for that manner) as gifts. In 99% of gift pefs the person getting them did zero research, leading to a pet that's fun for a few days, and then gets dumped in a shelter. Who gave Dhar Mann a dog??

    Can I just say thank you for having that noise cancelling stuff with the food? I've had to dip out of so many streams and VODs specifically because streamers have decided to pull out some food and turn the stream into food ASMR

    They lost their dog LAST WEEK! It took me like a year to "move on" and even think about other pets. My dad is still not over it and it's been a year. Also, his name was Teddy Bear, so this hit extra close to home

    Getting someone an animal as a suprise gift is one of the worst things you can do. Especially if it's to "replace" a dead animal. That's so fucked up.
