Here is a beautiful quote from Donald. "My name is Donald Sutherland. My wife's name is Francine Racette. We are Canadians. We each hold one passport. A Canadian passport. That's it. They ask me at the border why I don't take American citizenship. I could still be Canadian, they say. You could have dual citizenship. But I say no, I'm not dual anything. I'm Canadian. There's a maple leaf in my underwear somewhere." 😍

Donald's former father-in-law was Canadian politician Tommy Douglas...the architect of our Medicare system 👍🇨🇦 And yes...Donald Sutherland was the original Hawkeye Pierce in the movie M*A*S*H...Rest In Peace, Donald...a true Canadian icon 👍❤🇨🇦 And your tribute to Donald was wonderful...thank you! ❤

I work in the building named for Kiefer's grandfather, here in Regina, where Tommy was premier of Sask, and Medicare began in 1963. There's a bust of Tommy on a wall in the lobby by famous Canadian sculptor Joe Fafard. The bench under it is a favourite spot to sit.

The father of a good high school friend of mine was a childhood friend of Donald’s. They both left Bridgewater Nova Scotia to study civil engineering at the University of Toronto. I saw a picture of Donald passed out on a residence couch after a serious party the night before. Fortunately he gave up on civil engineering and went into theatre.

Hi Tash. You and your Aussie TV folks did a better tribute than most of the Canadian news outlets. We have lost 3 of our iconic actors in recent years. The incomparable Christoper Plummer, so great as the Duke of Wellington in Waterloo and canadian pilot in The Battle of Britain. The scrappy and delightful Gordon Pinsent who became a bigger star later in life with superb turns in The Shipping News and Away From Her. And now, our national treasure, Mr. Sutherland. Too many great films to name, and too great a contribution to comprehend. Thankfully, we have the 2 Ryans and Barry Pepper, and we can only hope that Bruce Greenwood and Callum Keith Rennie have a great 3rd act to help fill the void. Long live William Shatner!

Some underwater work was done for his father in the 80's in the Eastern Townships of Québec. He was there and became so curious about the Viking dry suits that he went visiting the factory in Sweden and ordered a custom fit suit at his expenses for mr Boisvert, a local resident and diver. Both father and son where so polite and simple. Both Sutherlands where humble and honest, but I can say nothing about Kiefer, never met him.

I’ve loved the Sutherland’s (father & son) all my film watching life and loved that they were proud Canadians. For me Donald Sutherland will live on forever in the genius of what I consider his greatest role, Oddball in Kelly’s Hero’s. It required him to play a completely larger than life character that was both entertaining, believably human and pulls off a 1960’s antiwar message in the middle of a WWII movie. Anyone who loves this brilliant movie will never forget Oddball and will embrace his message “enough with the negative waves”. On the dramatic side, I don’t think anything touched the power and cultural impact of 1980’s Oscar winning Ordinary People. Robert Redford’s directorial debut sent his career in a new direction and the performances of Sutherland, Mary Tyler Moore & Timothy Hutton stunned audiences and broke hearts. It’s a difficult but important film that’s success rests entirely on the believability of these three actors performances of a family who’s facade is torn apart by grief and loss.

Loved "Eye of the needle".He was evil in that, a German spy boarding incognito with a woman lighthouse keeper in a Channel Island. "Klute", "Ordinary People" also terrific. He lost one role because the director wanted "a boy next door type"and thought he looked like someone who never lived next door to anyone. Tash, did you ever see one of Keifer's early roles in Stephen King's "Stand by Me"? So nice of Australia to do a tribute.

    When The 2010 Winter Olympics
(to celebrate the 21st winter games) were being held in different localities in BC, Donald Sutherland using his beautiful voice was to narrate after all the athletes from the Five Ring Continents marched into the Stadium behind their country flag to describe eventful acts program [ I might add he was not speaking all the time. Musical pieces representing the knitting together the tapestry of why Canada is took place so majestically uniquely and spiritually. ] He also had the honours with 7 others during the Opening Ceremonies held in Vancouver. ACCOMPANYING them on their long walk was the Olympic Flag totally unfurled and at waist height one hand from each distinguished Canadian the likes of Anne Murray, singer (from the Maritimes) also gained fame by singing in her sold out shows in Vegas, Lake Tahoe long before Celine Dionne; Terry Fox's mom; Barbara Ann Scott, our sweetheart & the first to bring home gold during the Olympics where they only knew back then to hold the Figure Skating Championship OUTDOORS on a skating rink!; woman astronaut Julie Payette; Champion Ice hockey player, Bobby Orr; Humanitarian,Author, Former Forces Commander of United Nations in Rwanda Mission, Rollio Dallaire; Jacque DeNeuve Formula 1 and Indie Nascar Racecar winner, and of course, Donald Sutherland!

***As today is Canada Day (July 1st) as I type this - its probably coming to you too late BUT if not today then maybe some other day??
I don't think you have reacted to the 3 different types of SPECIAL Molson Canadian beer fridges that there was a promotion for back in 2013 & 2014. They were wonderful, inspiring a sense of nationalism, belonging & multi-culturalism. They would be GREAT for you to react to. (They actually bring a tear [or two] to my eyes.)
I have just checked but can't find all 3 together. You would need to pull up each one separately. I have the titles of clips on RUclips for the 3 different kinds if you wish & they are:
"Canadian Beer Fridge -Multiculturalism" - (1 min. 35 seconds)
"Molson Canadian _ The Beer Fridge" - (I forgot to mark down the time but it is similar in length)
"Molson Canadian The Beer Fridge - O Canada" - (2 min. 21 seconds)
(I don't want to sound anal - even if I am being that way 😁, but just in case you wish to know, this would be the best order to watch them in too - ESPECIALLY if you watch them by ANY chance today.)
Take care & all the best. Love from Canada. ♥
