He received the governor general’s ( the Queen’s Representative) award for performing arts...the highest honor. He and his wife donate millions to Canadian charities and foundations.
Steven Page (former member of The Barenaked Ladies band) wrote the most incredible song for Ryan Reynolds and this song and honour (the Governor General’s Award for Performing Arts) are so richly deserved. Ryan does an astounding amount of charitable work in Canada all the time, year after year. We adore Ryan. And it’s true, Canada really does love Ryan back! 🇨🇦🥰❤️👍🏻
Love RR. He genuinely seems to love Canada. He doesn't just give praise to the country but also mentions our flaws which helps us see our shortcomings. As others have said, he has either created or donated money to all of those groups that appeared on the screen. He doesn't give superficial nods to being Canadian but seems to actively be involved in trying to help improve our country.
Ryan and his wife exemplify we Canadians. We carry our love for every square centimetre of our magnificently beautiful country in our hearts and not on our sleeve. We have the collective courage to recognise our past mistakes and are striving to repair the damage while respectfully moving forward. Our mosaic is a joyous experiment in how people should treat one another and do so politely and not bellicosely. We are often misjudged by outsiders as too soft and too polite, but they do so at their peril. When needed, we come second to none. Chimo
In 2020 when graduation ceremonies were cancelled due to the pandemic, Ryan Reynolds bought every grad from his old high school in Vancouver a pizza from the local shop. It was such a small thing but such a huge gesture.
Oh that's great. I didn't know about this one. Not only would it be something those grads would remember (& talk about) for the REST of their lives - receiving a pizza FROM Ryan Reynolds! - it would have really been a help to that pizza shop when everything was closed down during the pandemic. What a fantastic guy! I could not say it enough.
This written for Ryan after he was was awarded the Governor General's Award for the Arts. ( Which he's shown wearing.) Famed Comedian Catherine O'Hara (Best known for the Mom in Home Alone) was also given the award and a song was written/sung for her.
Mert - No sure if you know the background on this. Ryan received the Governor General's Award for performing arts - the highest honour and this was a tribute to him. All of the footage of food banks, hospitals, etc. are charities that Ryan donates his money to on a regular basis. He's truly a gem of a guy! Steven Page used to be the lead singer of a very popular Canadian band - The Barenaked Ladies. You should check out their music!
Ryan has so much ❤ for Canada and shows his support in many ways, including major contributions to the charities named in the video, among others. And yeah, Canada Loves You Back, Ryan!❤
Years ago I rewrote If I Had a Million Dollars with the lyrics to If I Had A Rocket Launcher by Bruce Cockburn. Putting such serious words to such an upbeat tune sounded hilarious...to drunk university students.
Two Canadian icons! What a great song by a wonderful Canadian singer/songwriter/etc for a wonderful Canadian actor/philanthropist/producer/etc! Love the production too! Thanks for reacting to this!
Ryan supports many charities. They were listed in this video. He also does other wonderfully human things. He bought all the grads from his old high school a pizza during the pandemic.
Ryan received the Governor General's Award. The Governor General's Awards in Arts are presented yearly to recognize exceptional accomplishments in visual and media arts, performing arts and literature. Ryan started or is involved in all those charities listed.
One of the amazing things about Ryan's charitable donations is that he makes most of them so quietly that very few people even know about them. Many are very grassroots too. He donates a lot to grassroots Indigenous groups, for example. A few years ago, my neighbourhood was about to lose its beloved, independent, alternative, "artsy" movie theatre to a greedy developer. Ryan just quietly came along and saved it. He does that kind of thing a lot.
So Steven Page was a member of the band "Barenaked Ladies" and has gone on to do more. I wouldn't say he's well known by just his name but he has been a successful music maker in many roles. I forget what Ryan was being "recognized for" but yes that's why they made the video was as part of honouring him as well as the medal/award.
I cried 1st time I heard it. The award plus this song was so on target & just such a great way to honour him! I'm from BC Canada & yes we do love him & so proud of him, I should say all Canadians! I never realized how many charities/foundations he & his wife have helped, the list was quite long & very cool yes their humble!
Ryan is a great actor, an accomplishment that we very much appreciate , yet he, like Keanu Reeves , is admired even more for his character traits of compassion, humility, generosity, sensitivity, and kindness., among others. I wish he and his family a very happy future! ❤🎉
Steven Page was formerly with a group called “Bare Naked Ladies” The group wrote/sang the theme song for the Big Bang Theory. My favourite song from them is “If I had a $1000000 dollars” Give it a listen if you need to smile :)
Steven Page himself is a Canadian treasure. Great guy and a brilliant artist. Loved the Beachcombers as a kid, so I appreciated the Bruno Gerussi reference! Kudos to Ryan.
Steven page used to be the lead singer to the band Barenaked Ladies. And the metal that Brian Reynolds is wearing around his neck is for the order of British Columbia, which is given to citizens of Birch Columbia for their contribution to the betterment of British Columbia Canada. It would not surprise me that sometime in the future he gets the order of Canada as well.
It wasn’t the Order of British Columbia (not enough dogwood flowers, lol), it was the Governor Generals award for Performing Arts, well earned too. Love hearing the song by Steven Page. As soon as I heard his voice, I knew who it was without even looking. And for sure, I can see Ryan Reynolds getting the Order of Canada.
Steven Page of the great Canadian musical group 'Bear Naked Ladies'. A band you should check out for sure, wrote and performed that song to honour Ryan Reynold when he received the Canadian Governor General's award in 2021. Those groups you saw listed in the video and who helped perform the song, have all received donations, or support from Ryan Reynolds over the years. My favourite is Ryan Reynold's ugly Christmas sweater campaign for Sick Kids Toronto. Great tribute video and excellent react video from you. Thanks P.S. As was very nicely pointed out in the comments, it should read Bare Naked Ladies. My bad, must have been thinking of the video of Rick Mercer and Bob Rae skinny dipping video. Another great Canadian moment! 😂
@@doberski6855 Thanks for so graciously accepting the correction. I understand completely. We all make mistakes. I made a mistake once, too; I said, "I do." Big mistake!!! Huge! 😉😄😄
Singer : Steven J Page (born June 22, 1970) is a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He was a founding member, lead singer, guitarist, and primary songwriter of the music group called *Barenaked Ladies.* Page left the band in February 2009 to pursue a solo career.
Steven Page was apart of the Canadian singing Group Barenaked Ladies. Barenaked Ladies had hit songs in the early 90s all the way upto the early 2000s. I seen Ryan in the movie “Waiting.” Back in 2007. It’s one of my favourite movies. At the time I didn’t know Ryan was Canadian. It wasn’t until the last 10 or so years I seen him in other movies. Doing research finding out he was from Vancouver. I had only seen Deadpool because of him and I know nothing about comic books. He’s great. Steven Page is great too.
He received the Governor Generals Performing Arts Award. All those organizations are Charities he supports. He's pretty special. Steven Page was Frontman for The Bare Naked Ladies. Great band. Check them out.
I recommend listening to some more of Steven Page's music - this is just a taster. He's awesome - phenomenal voice live. This video is a live version of my favourite song, from 2022: ruclips.net/video/3dDVrQFn3RI/видео.html
Steven Page was a member of the Bate Naked Ladies, kicked out of the band for a drug arrest. He was the heart and soul of the band, and frankly I find them pointless without him. They are more or less regarded as a 'fun band' - something they have always been, but Pages extraordinary voice lifted them to the point where their talent was unquestionable. His vocals on 'Brian Wilson' are a fine example.
Amen to BNL not being the same. I’ve seen Steve with the Trans Canada Highwaymen twice this year and he still sounds fantastic. Makes me wonder if they’ll ever reunite.
THE GUY SINGING IS THE VOCALS OF " BARE NAKED LADIES " )))))))))))))))))))))))) )))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Metal of honor in Canada for giving back to Canadians he does alot of good work through foundations in Canada and Steven Page used to be lead singer in Bare Naked Ladies
Barenaked Ladies is the band Steven Page used to be with (before he dumped his wife and was doing drugs with his new girlfriend, I think police were involved. The band lives on. Steven since embarked on a solo career. Frankly, this is the first time I’ve seen Steven since he left the band 10? years ago. He’s a great singer whose greatness, seems to me, shone much more when he was with the band. Some songs that you might know done by the Barenaked Ladies are: Big Bang (the theme song of the TV sitcom Big Bang Theory), If I Had a Million Dollars, Jane, It’s All Been Done Before.
I was just going to send this link to you & I see you have it. Ryan & his wife Blake Lively donate to every charity in the video as well as helping film students & our local economy with his Deadpool movies, he is also here with his football club Wrexham FC to play the Vancouver White Caps. Have you seen the Deadpool Movies? You will love the humour.
Just noticed that all the verses are limericks in the standard AAbbA poetic structure. The only other song I know that does this is the hilariously vulgar "Friggin' in the Riggin'" by the Sex Pistols.
Love this video but it's kind of too bad you didn't find this other clip. This song was included in a wonderful presentation by his wife, which really focused his Canadian-ness, when Ryan Reynolds received the American Cinematheque Award - would have been perfect for your channel. ruclips.net/video/ap3JGsCAu9A/видео.html

Ryan and his wife have donated to charities for years but does it with out fan fair. Just gives and gives. I was so glad to see him recognized.
The inside jokes in the lyrics were spread thicker than maple butter on a toasted Montreal bagel. Brilliant song to honour a brilliant Canadian.
I know. So much that Mert missed. I could write a whole essay explaining all the in jokes here.
Ryan Reynolds received the GG award during the pandemic, so there was no award ceremony. This was the remote presentation for him.
