    The Pelagos is the best pure tool watch in the world of mechanical watches, bar none (my opinion). The Rolex Sea Dweller, with its mirror-like polished accents and precious metals, is still first and foremost a luxury piece of jewelry. Apples and oranges.

      Dont think GS have a diver watch that can also be claimed as a tool watch. There is this huge dvier from GS (cant recall the ref no) think is a 46mm..... no way it will wear as comfortable as this Pelagos. GS is awesome but their turf will be in the dress watch section.

      @@williamstalvey6920 To each their own. GS makes some amazing looking watches. Don't know about the diver, but there are plenty of GS watches I'd like to have in my collection.
      As a true purpose dive watch, I have yet to see one better the Rolex. Some may have a better depth rating, but they lack the finesse, others may be better looking, but lack the capabilities.
      The Sea-Dweller for me is the perfect dive watch, and the 116600 for me is the perfect Sea-Dweller. The wart like HEV on other brands (and I consider Tudor to be part of the Rolex brand, because it is) looks terrible to me.

  • @brianrdetweiler

    If you've been considering the Pelagos, I 100% recommend it. It is absolutely gorgeous, tough as nails, and though you can't see the movement, you will appreciate the 70 hour power reserve and the less than +1 second per day that even Rolex can't beat. And nobody can accuse it of being a ripoff of (or homage to, whatever) a Submariner like the Black Bay. It really is its own watch.

    • @bloodymarvelous4790
      @bloodymarvelous4790 3 года назад

      Since both Tudor and Rolex are made by the same company, I don't think anybody can call one a ripoff of the other.
      By the way, the +1 second/day falls within the range given by Tudor, which is -5/+5 seconds/day. It also falls within the range given by Rolex of -2/+2 seconds/day. Just because your watch clocks at +1s/d doesn't mean that Rolex can't match that. Tudors can also leave the factory at +4s/d, while Rolexes never will.

    • @siilentio
      @siilentio Год назад

      in case anyone is reading this, i just wanted to correct something, its -2/+4 sec per day range that a tudor manufacture calibre is allowed to run
      regarding the +1 secs mentioned before, you can achieve this with a ETA calibre too, its not about the quality rather than the time being spend regulating it
      note: doesnt mean ETA‘s are of bad quality, they are great!
      if it still runs +1 secs a day after many years than you got great isochronism, the more important part than running as close as possible to 0secs a day

  • @indiefruit
    @indiefruit 5 лет назад +24

    When it comes to doing a bigger, bolder version of their 'standard' dive watch, I think the Pelagos definitely goes the extra distance. It's everything you want in a more 'serious' watch than a Black Bay, without it just looking like a scaled up Black Bay. The Sea-Dweller will always just look like a big submariner at first glance, but the Pelagos is hard to mistake for anything other than a Pelagos.

    4:38 an important difference between the two for those looking at buying, the tudor is matte all over, including dial, bezel, and the rolex is polished in most areas apart from the bracelet (bracelet sides are polished). so if you prefer low key, proper tool watch guise, go for the tudor. if you prefer a little more bling, go for the rolex. i had the tudor but it didnt do it for me, so i got the sd43, and suffice to say imo its the perfect watch for me. both watches are beasts, they will easily outlive us and take whatever we can throw at them. the tudor is insane value. wear your watches in good health.

    A year ago, when I first found this channel and watched this video, I knew that these were my two grail watches. Got the Pelagos LHD a month and a half ago and finally managed to get the SD about two weeks ago. Both watches have their own personality. Both get a lot of wrist time. But, the Pelagos has a slight edge(personal choice) because of how it wears. I love them both but for some random reason it's the Pelagos that I reach out for on a regular basis. You can't go wrong with either of them. The video doesn't do justice to how pretty the Pelagos looks, it's a beauty for quarter the price. Thanks for the video!

    What I don't like about the SD43 is that the movement is still the same as the one in the 40mm version, they just beefed up the case.
    This left the date too close to the centre, a fact they then disguised using the cyclops, a feature Seadwellers have never had before.

Nevertheless I decided to go for the inhouse movement version last year. Once I've seen the watch at the AD, I got dissapointed again. Again the indices which weren't placed perfecty and by a white spot under the crystal. After waiting for a second watch, I finally bought my pelagos and didn't regret it at all. The problem I find with Tudor is that they still have to let Rolex stand out first and whilst the Pelagos has its own identity it cannot conflict in the same market as Rolex. In some way they have to be held back by Rolex and consult with Rolex that what they release will not hurt them. It’s like being the second team member of a Ferrari to Michael Schumacher back then where he must alway be first whilst Tudor has to be second best. I am sure if Tudor said I want the finishing to be as good a Rolex they would have been blocked from doing it.

      The new Sea Dweller case looks too thick and 43mm is big. However, it all depends on your wrist size. I already own an older Submariner and 40mm for me is the sweet spot. I also own the newer Datejust 41mm and even though that is a 1 millimetre bigger, its case is thin and so, it works for me. But as elegant as Sea Dweller is, it's still
      a serious Dive Watch and therefore, needs that thickness to withstand water pressure. I would say the Tudor Pelegos is a better watch for the value because if you are not doing as deep diving, then, the Pelegos is a great choice. Titanium case, adjustable clasp like the Rolex and best of all, a luminous ceramic bezel with big luminous dial markers make it a winner not to mention the difference in price. Not sure how hard they are to purchase at an Ad. Probably, no where as bad as trying to buy a Submariner.

    If you just want a good solid watch for for money, it cant go wrong with Tudor pelagos titanium. But Tudor is alway a Rolex shadow, it just a shade of it. Now if you want to solid watch but dont want to get into the poor man Rolex controversy, I recommend Omega seamaster it just as good and similar price of the a Tudor

      Just hate the fact that they purposefully make it all matte and unpolished to differentiate it from the Rolex line...also hate that it just seems you can't afford "the real deal". A shame because I actually love all the recent tudors..

    • @abhyjith.k.a
      @abhyjith.k.a 6 лет назад +1

      @@desmoMarco91 Don't fall for the "real deal" trap. Get what you truly love and ignore everything and everyone else. I'm saving up for a Pelagos as well. And also, the unpolished/brushed metal will age much more brilliantly than the polished ones. And with getting a Tudor, you automatically differentiate yourself from the crowd as a person who know true value for money and appreciates horology. Its a great tool and you get what you pay for. But for Rolex, most of the money just goes for the brand name and there is much lesser value. I dislike Rolex in absolutely no way, but that is the truth.

      @@desmoMarco91 typical Italian comment and I tell you why. In Italy you think buying a Tudor is a wanna be Rolex... while maybe you just like it more. This is a stereotype very common in Italy where people would just buy a Rolex to express a status symbol. Sometimes they go even broke to do so... and then they post on RUclips this kind of comment. The Tudor in this case is just better than the Rolex..money wise, look wise etc. So bro take what u like not what the others think u should wear to be cool.

    • @desmoMarco91
      @desmoMarco91 6 лет назад +1

      hovensteve it actually is true that rolexes are a status symbol in italy and that 95% of people buy them as a status. I also understand your point of view but i’ll tell you one thing for sure: it is ALWAYS wrong to generalize the behaviour of a population, everyone is different and everybody has their own personal taste. Let me explain mine: I personally like the new tudors (not only the pelagos, i like the blackbay 48 as well): the two major downsides are the lack of a polished look that I very much appreciate and the purposeful “downgrade” look to not hinder its bigger brother sales. For these reasons i like them but I don’t love them. I don’t have plans on owning one soon as many other watches precede them on my personal wishlist

    I've got both and prefer the LHD. It's just near perfection, the case could have been slimmer and less writing on the dial. The lume is simply amazing. And the LHD is widely available with discount while I was very lucky to get one at retail.
    One thing most videos on the SD43 don't mention is the matte black dial, it's not glossy like the Sub. It only looks glossy due to the sapphire crystal.
