I have friends that can't make lunch for $5,much less a whole, satisfying dinner. Nice job friend!
The leftover meatloaf would make a great sandwich for the next day!😊
The only thing I would do differently is pass on the dessert and get some instant potatoes instead.
Again a good idea, but that would put it over $5.00
I agree. Thanksgiving needs mashed potatoes 😉😸
Yes! I love mashed potatoes! Just wanted to include a sweet treat for anyone on a super tight budget! Thank you!
Agree with leaving off dessert. We have been avoiding sugar lately.
Yes
One of the best $5 Thanksgiving dinners/meals I've watched so far 👌
Thank you!
The average price of a small turkey in my area runs about $13 dollars, ground turkey is almost $6 lb on sale. Apparently, those who are making fun of your video, have never had to worry about feeding their family. I appreciate your effort. I don't have to pinch my pennies any longer but once relied on the food bank and family or friends to help feed me. My problem is my allergies and gluten intolerance, though.
I had to learn how to cook more from scratch. To stretch our grocery budget, I stock up when I can when something is marked down or on sale. Tuesday is Senior Day at one store, you bet I ask for my discount. We eat a lot of beans and rice; deer meat; fish; and we have a container garden. I reinvent leftovers. We gift others with home processed pickles and salsa, fish that we catch and homemade goodies at Christmas. Our neighbors and friends bless us back. Last week, when a neighbor gifted us a turkey, I sent her home with a bag full of hot peppers and tomatoes fresh from my garden. We clean out our refrigerator for another neighbor's pigs and she saves her rabbit manure for our garden. She is single so I will cook for her often. I treat her like my daughter, sometimes it may only be just a frozen pizza, or a hot dog on sandwich bread, but she is always grateful for our fellowship and we are so blessed to call her our friend. When I was sick, one of my friends brought me some dried herbs she foraged to make tea. When it comes time to harvest my comfrey, horseradish, and ginger, she is welcome to come and get some for her garden. She said she will bring me some elderberry for mine. Other friends give us deer meat, pies, honey, rice, or jelly. We've just planted some turnips and will share the greens around New Years. They are always a hit! I bought a gazillion seeds years ago and they are still viable. I didn't realize how much I bought and have been giving cups of seeds away to those who want them, but I definitely got my money's worth! This is how we manage the cost of groceries.
I love this!!! Yes I think it may show that some people have never had to go hungry or worry when they may get a next meal. While those people are blessed to not have had that issue in life, not everyone has had that good experience, some compassion would be nice, no need to be ugly, right?
It is so nice that you have such good and close friends! We too keep a small circle and we all barter often with garden goodies and meat from whichever hunting season is open and whatever sales we scored. We love to utilize the salvage grocery store also! My husband is also a mechanic and is able to trade his services for foods and needed things sometimes. Lastly, I might be a crazy coupon lady….. no shame in my coupon game!! 🥰
Thanks so much for sharing! I love to hear it!
How do you use the rabbit manure? We have saved and fermented chicken manure in a diluted mixture but not sure on protocol for rabbits.
@@kristadavis2825 rabbit manure is considered a cold manure and can be used without composting but not all plants are able to get nutrients from it. We just put it in our compost pile, after two months it is usually decomposed.
@@dayswithdanik My mom always kept a full pantry to help her multiple grandchildren and neighbors if they when they needed help. She shopped at the salvage stores. I never faced starvation growing up, she was raised poor. Mom knew how to stretch a small chicken to feed six hungry mouths. We ate mayonnaise sandwiches, and didn't realize others thought we were poor. I don't think we were, we just didn't have As much as others.
As a young mom, my children just ate whatever I made or did without. My oldest son will never eat another box of cheap macaroni and cheese, hot dogs, or fish sticks, and my daughters have things they will no longer eat now, but they didn't starve. I have forage dandelion greens, polk salad, black berries, mayhaws, pecans, etc... After I divorced, my youngest was in college, my household income was considerably less and I was left with considerable debt. Food banks helped me during this time, in turn, I volunteered with the free medical clinic after work. I am extremely grateful, for whatever state I faced, there were always, I saw others that had more need than I had. One memory still haunts me, one young mother didn't have electricity to cook and needed items that didn't need a refrigerator. She had to walk a couple of miles to the grocery store, and she had little money. I paid for her groceries and drove her home. I could eat at my parents or with friends. A sandwich would have been sufficient, but she had no one to help her. It broke my heart. I have never seen such a desperate situation before. I pray she and her son are better off now.
Dave Ramsey's courses helped me during this time to get out of debt. I helped my daughter graduate from college. I had to be frugal and worked as much as I could. I was an hourly worker and didn't make much.
Ten years ago, I remarried and moved from the big city to a rural area in a different state. My husband is almost 70 and is still working as a crop consultant. He freely advises others on gardening, but the local extension office is a great resource. Even if you plant a few seeds in a bucket or a container. Dollar Tree sells seeds during the spring for 25 cents a pack. You can save seeds from produce from the grocery store to replant. RUclips has multiple videos on gardening for beginners. The fresh produce can help your food budget.
@@grandmashootz1459 this is wonderful thank you for sharing! I love me some Dave Ramsey!! I have always grown a small garden that took care of my family, since moving I have a container garden and my husbands mom has moved across from us and we now have a great ole big family garden! 🥰🥰🥰 I’m learning slowly on preserving. I just toss most everything in the freezer for now haha
I have to say of all of these kinds of videos I've watched this year. I think you have done the cheapest and the best one possible. I think it turned out absolutely great, especially if you're someone with very little money. But you did a fantastic job and good ideas.
Thank you so much!!
What a great achievement for so little money! I think the only variation I would do is replacing the tomato with a piece of fruit to chop up and add to the jello
You can also make your own stuffing by using pieces of bread, moistened with a little water, chopped onion and whatever spices you want. Put in baking dish, cover with foil and bake until it gets brown and crunchy on top
Very nice- it's amazing what you did with only $5! I love these budget Thanksgiving videos.
Thanks so much!
Looks wonderful and great idea for these tough times. Absolutely yes to more budget meals- Thanksgiving and Christmas! ❤
A go to quick inexpensive dessert I’ve always liked to make is pumpkin pie pudding. It’s one packet of vanilla pudding (make according to directions) 1/4c pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice or just cinnamon works too. This is also a recipe I would make when I watched what I ate. So it can be made lower calorie and sugar if you get a low fat or sugar free pudding mix.
I have made the pudding and I have this dessert in the works for another video! Thank you! I am excited to give this a try! I have been on a no sugar journey since 4/1, not sure I grabbed a no sugar pudding but good to know for a healthy treat for myself!
@ you can even use a nut milk or coconut milk if you want to lower the calories even more. Or if someone has a dairy allergy.
I’m new to your channel but look forward to looking around at some more of your videos!
Thank you!
It was SOOOO DELICIOUS!!!!!! Thank you again for a yummy supper!!!!
Yes please more ideas. Thank you for the help and ideas.
The best budget meal i have ever seen
Thank you!!
Loved this video!😊 Turkey meatloaf is a great idea and yes just spice up those green beans girl! Thank u for sharing more budget meals please😊😊!!!
I love your positiveness.
Homemade gravy: flour, water, onions, oil , salt , pepper 🎉 in pan add oil , let heat then add onions allow to cook slightly. Then add flour allow to brown, then add water, stir until mixed. Then salt and pepper. Turn stove down until mixture reduced🎉
👍
Absolutely brilliant. Well done and sending blessings to you and your family!
Thank you!!
This is amazing! Thank you!
Very nice video. My daughter is bringing her 2 sons up to my house this Thanksgiving and I’m going to make this! Plus cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes. I’m a lazy cook. Thank you for your time. It all looks good !❤
wow! I love everything about this wonderful looking meal. I add a beef bouillon cube to my green beans and cook it down for a home canned taste. You are so inspiring!
Nice budget friendly holiday meal😊
That was brilliant! 😊
It’s amazing what you were able to buy for $5. I’ve never had to pinch my pennies like that until recently so it’s good to know it can be done. Instead of meatloaf, I think I would have used meat for turkey burgers with gravy. Thanks for such a good video
If you need an inexpensive meal, this looks go. Full plates, full bellies. You could also use the leftover meatloaf for turkey meatloaf sandwiches the next day. I think that I would have opted for cranberry sauce or jelly instead of the jello. I am just not a fan of jello. This probably would have made me leave the tomato behind to keep it under $5. I probably would have added an extra dollar and gotten an extra stuffing mix. This makes a lot of food, and I would have been eating it for the rest of the week. I love leftovers. Thank you for this video. I will give it a try sometime after Thanksgiving. I batch cook for a week or two on a single day. Then meal prep and freeze. Instant homemade TV dinners, ready in an instant.
I would have bought a couple large potatoes and skipped the tomato. Also, not crazy about the Jello But the meal is a good cheap idea especially the turkey loaf. Very filling.
Love the idea of a meatloaf!
I love the dinner, stuffing meat and veggies and then jello. I love all these foods. I love that it is easy to make. thanks
this is totally awesome thanks
This meal looks amazing 🎉. Definitely gave me a idea for a dinner this coming Sunday thanks 👍
Great idea to use stuffing mix in the meatloaf, I will try. Looks good, thank you! 💕
That is a super cozy dinner. Love it!
Looks delicious!
That’s amazing. Looks good.👍
Perfection! Love it.
Looks quite fancy and delicious! I subscribed to your channel.
Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦❤️🇺🇸
Thank you for doing this it looks delicious 😋 something to always think about when on a very tight budget.. you got a new subscriber ❤
Thank you!
This is great!!! Patiently waiting for more videos!!!!!!
You did great. The meal looks awesome.
I really like the way you put together a great meal, that feels like a holiday meal. I checked online my walmart prices and without the tomato (my local walmart doesn't ever have fresh produce) the total was $4.66 so I added on the list a 58 cents box of mac and cheese as well as $1.50 container of pumpkin shortbread cookies for a total of $6.74. I would like to see more budget holiday meals, it was amazing to see that prices over here are the same, normally these type of videos show prices way cheaper than where I live, I was pleasantly surprised to see it is possible for me to shop the same budget
Thank you! I like the addition of Mac n cheese and cookies! Thanks for watching!
Looks delicious, for five dollars, thanks for sharing!!
I LOVE the cross tattoo! ❤️❤️
Thank you!!
The prices of these American groceries astounds me. As a Canadian I am jealous lol.
We’d be very lucky if we got the pound of ground turkey for under $5.
Goodness gracious! This Festive brand is the cheapest I’ve found at Walmart. The rest get close to $5.
great job!
Will have to try it looks good
Very creative. Meatloaf is a filling meal. I would've opted for cranberry sauce.
I agree but then it would be over $5.00
Great job and loved the video 😘👍🏻💕💕🙏🏻🙏🏻
I think this is a great meal.❤❤❤❤❤
This would blow through the $5 budget, but a variation could be a turkey casserole: 1 lb ground turkey, 1 can nacho cheese soup, 2 eggs, and 1 box Rice-a-Roni (the 6.8 oz size).
Oh now that sounds good!!
@@dayswithdanik Ooops, I forgot: Covered at 350F for 30 minutes. Uncover and cook for 10-15 minutes more. (I follow recipes, haha.)
👍great ideas💡
Maybe cranberry jello instead of cherry?
I’ve never tried cranberry jello, didn’t know it was a thing hmmm
@ Jell-o has it 😉
This would also be great meal anytime.
You did a great job stretching 5.00🎉
I went online and priced all your items and it came to exactly $5.00. No joke!
I'd add more items and make it a $10.
Great job👍
Cost of this in Canada, Great Value no-name, etc. would be between $10 and $15, so at least double and to be fair, by the time you go through checkout, taxes, etc. nearly triple.
I’m sorry to hear that. I chose to say the price pre tax because some states in the US don’t charge tax on groceries….. I do not live in those states lol darn!
Don’t worry Canada , 🇨🇦 this time next year if Trump has his way , our groceries will have skyrocketed, since all the immigrants that harvest all our , fruits , vegetables and grains will be deported and no one will be left to do all the hard labor work. Your groceries will probably be looking cheap .😮
Not a chance in Canada. The ground meat alone is 5 dollars. The rest of the ingredients on sale or at dollar store you could get for 5 dollars. So it's a 10 dollar meal in Canada. With the exchange that's 7.15 US.
I’m sorry to hear that! I’ve had others from Canada say it would be much more. Boooooo
A packet of Bisquick might be a good addition. You should be able to get at least 4 biscuits out of it. I think it costs about a dollar.
Greetings thanks for caring about those whom barely have the monetary resources to purchase a TG meal . If this were me I would have made turkey burgers with gravy and stuffing , tomato on the side
Add an additional $5 dollars to the budget and you can have instant mashed potatoes, dinner rolls and whipped topping for the jello. 😊
$10 budget Thanksgiving loading today with mashed potatoes!
Good job. Of course I had to comparison shop. Identical products came to $5.65 here, an 11½% increase. I assigned our tomato price to yours since I didn't hear it, 30¢. I'm surprised it wasn't much more.vWe do not pay tax on regular non prepared (hot) groceries. How much did you pay in tax?
Manteca CA
Re: gravy. I would not have put it in the meatloaf or on. Would have to have had it all to pour over the dressin'. Oh yum.
Hi!! Our tomato was $0.21. After taxes we paid $5.27 for all of it!
Impressive!
awesome meal for only $5!
🙂👏🦃
🦃💬looks delicious
I buy that ground turkey for my dogs.
Yes please 🙏
great ideas.
I bought a whole turkey for less than $5
Wahooooo my kind of bargain!!
4 plates for $5? Nice. I'd swap mash potatoes for the green beans, though. Beautiful.
❤❤❤
The plate dished up looked like more then one can of green beans and more stuffing then what you stored in the bowl.
You are not the first person to say that. It sure was just one can and one box. Thats what was in the budget and that’s what I used. It went far enough for 4 plates and filled us up! Give it a try!
Why not turkey gravy?
Turkey gravy is $0.67. Brown gravy is on sale for $0.32. We like brown gravy and its price stayed in the $5 budget.
I've been scared to try that Walmart Festive ground turkey.
Right?! It’s not pretty but it eats good. I was too for a while, but when a budget is tight and there’s babies to feed a momma will give it a try. As long as their bellies get full and they are happy we will eat it! ( we mostly eat deer meat that we kill and process ourselves in my house, bringing in turkey when an Alpha gal allergy is joining dinner, or it’s Thanksgiving).
I love watching these videos, but it seems that the stuffing and green beans doubled in volume for the final part of the video, when everything is plated
Nope. One box, one can.
That's amazing. I think I need to start buying canned veggies 😂. They must be packed tightly
We prefer frozen in our house, but when on a budget canned is cheaper and goes farther for us. Also the salt is so tasty lol maybe not good for the blood pressure but shhhh let’s not talk about that! It’s good for the taste buds!🤣
@@dayswithdanikand you get some extra mineral nutrients from the can, I've heard! 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Pretty impressive for $5
I am impressed U can get it down to $5.
You did very well. I don't see a thing that could be improved on.
Not so sure that’s really one can of beans or one box of stuffing. And that was a lot more than one cup of gravy.
Yes, in the video I said I was using 1 1/2 cups of water for the gravy, I said it outloud and that’s what I did. Yes, one can of beans and one box of stuffing. That’s what is pictured, that’s what was filmed, that’s what stayed in budget. Make it yourself and see how much you get if you would like to question.
@ I cook all of those things, all the time. If you used 1 1/2 cups of water , the gravy wouldn’t be that thick.
It is what it is
Give it a try
@@Connie-u6p the longer you cook gravy, the thicker it gets
Oh my goodness this conversation really is not happening! She showed it all ,just trying to give budget ideas for those who have low funds but still would like to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal.I have comments but those will stay with me.I am"Thankful" she made the video. Anyways I pray all people, American and not American ,have a wonderful meal to celebrate our Country ,God and family! Or this would make a good meal any day of the week. Imagine dinner for 4 for 5 dollars.Or dinner for 2 for 2 days for 5 dollars. Or Dinner for 3 days and lunch for 1 day for 5 dollars for 1.Now that is impressive!
Looks amazing ❤God less all here ❤ ✝️ ❤
Need mashed potatoes
Fire me just the meat would be almost $5 😢
Goodness!
Everything looks good I'm not a big fan of Jell-O
It feels the belly anyway
And tastes great too
That was not one can of green beans and one box of stuffing. Thanks for the video anyway❤
Yes it sure was. The point of the video is to spend $5. One can and one box was in that budget. That’s what’s in the video and that’s what I used. Make it yourself.
Well, you did an amazing job stretching that meal. Kudos to you
Thanks
This is a spit in the face to Thanksgiving. #Sick
Well thank you!
@@dayswithdanik Anytime. !
@alcox6377 Judging from your Facebook posts, Its safe to say you claim to be a man of God. How can such a man have a negative opinion of a video that could potentially help some people enjoy the holidays that may not have the funds to have a more traditional holiday meal. While Dani is trying to make the world a better place and offer an alternative option to people who may be struggling, you’re over here judging and acting like you’re better than everyone. A lot of people are having a hard time making ends meet these days and could benefit from having an option like this. You have no right to judge. Shame on you. At the end of the day, we all bleed red and we all end up in the same pine box. I’ll pray that you find your way, because your comment is absolutely atrocious. Have a good day, sir.
Really? And in what chapter of the Bible does it give the description of a Thanksgiving meal? Or, at least, you should go back and read the story about the feeding of the masses. Because you, sir, just spit in the face of the God you claim to serve.
@@F.A.F.O-c8h Then hit a pantry and get a turkey there, instead of this processed stuff. Concerning you creeping my facebook, which you shouldnt be not being on my friends list, well, creepers will be creeps. Im not perfect and refuse to try to be.

That looked so dry. I don’t know if even the gravy could save it. Turkeys are so cheap right now. Buy a real one and roast it ffs
It wasn’t dry at all. We enjoyed it! Turkeys aren’t $5, nor is turkey with sides.
@@dayswithdanikAmen! A small turkey runs around $13 here.
great job!
