Uber says that we're Independent Contractors, which means we're in business for ourselves, right? What business have you ever heard of where we are allowed to make so few decisions with so little information? We can't build our business in any typical way (build a customer base, market, etc.) because riders can't request us. What Uber is really doing is calling us Independent Contractors when we're actually employees. We should always be able to see the destination of the rider, along with the projected fare, as it is given to the rider. Because we are operating a business where we supply a vehicle, gas, insurance and maintenance, we must do what is in OUR best interests, not Uber's best interests. That means that supply and demand must include us. We should be able to reject a ride or cancel a ride based on the following information: location of rider, destination of rider, estimated fare, and rating of riding. And we shouldn't be subjected to the punishment from Uber for rejecting or canceling a ride (sometimes I cancel rides because I can't tell where they are based on the acceptance screen). In the past, Uber would knock me offline for ten minutes for not accepting or canceling 3 rides in an hour. They don't seem to be doing that now, but they have added our acceptance rate and cancel rate to the Ratings screen in the app. What possible good could that do for drivers? None. It's all about Uber. Their business model is dependent on suckering drivers into believing they are Independent Contractors who will make "great money", when actuality, the entire system is built to benefit Uber and riders. The business model must include the well-being of drivers. Uber has commoditized the market with UberPOOL. So raising fares simply won't work in the future. We're stuck with rides that earn us $3.80. I'm not willing to take anyone anywhere for so little money. It's not cherry picking, it's running a profitable business. If those short rides want to use Uber, they should have to pay a fare that drivers accept.
Yea I tend to agree - Uber definitely seems more like an employer than an IC set up. Working on an article about this so stay tuned. Feel free to e-mail me all the examples you can think of where Uber exhibits employee like control over drivers: harry at therideshareguy.com
I dont think you understand how the contractor relationship works. Try to run your on taxi busness where you say you dont want to drive to that part of town. Or that its to short of a trip and not worth your time. If uber let you say these things you relise that alot of riders would stop using uber. Pepole like uber becuse of its ease and speed. If they had to sit there for an extra hour because where they wanted to go was not good enough for you the next time they need a ride they will use lyft. Or just a normal taxi.
Mark Laseau you're a contractor selling ur labour to Uber, users customers are not your... If you don't like the restricted freedom of accepting their requests for drivers, than simply take your labour elsewhere.
Mark Laseau Uber isn't stopping you from rejecting a ride, they just have rules and terms in place that let you know you'll be dropped from their program for violating policy. It's your 'buisness' they cant stop you from taking it elsewhere and competing against them.
With recent turn of events, it seems that the drivers need to form some kind of union of sorts and hire a representative to advocate for drivers with Uber. If millions of drivers decided not to log in to the app for a period of time, Uber most definitely would change their approach and attitudes towards drivers.
not knowing the destination for long trips is a problem too. I have had fares for $21 or so, BUT I put 60+ miles on the car for that. so when I get someone that wants a ride far away , I tell them that's out of my area and cancel the ride. uber needs to do better.
You overlook another reason drivers want to know where they are going. THEY DON'T WANT TO DIE. Some neighborhoods are so dangerous, no amount of money is worth going there. Even cops avoid these neighborhoods going solo. A few months ago, a Lyft driver was shot & killed in Cleveland & the passenger was shot but survived.
It's not where you are going. It's where you pick up. Uber gives you the option of canceling a ride. Taxi drivers did not have this luxury. You had to go through a dispatcher and you better have a good reason. And yes you do not feel safe was an acceptable reason.
If you want to cherry pick that's your right, it's your car, and you have a right to know what you are agreeing to before agreeing to it, at the very least after finding out it's not for you, you too should be able to change your mind and say no.
I had a ride that was 21 mins away and it was a 4 min ride 😐 I agree with you that if they won't you the destination, they need to increase the pay out. The new destination feature is an awesome idea!
it is not a good idea...it is so stupid..it only works 25% of the time, the other 25% it gives you really dumb rides like it sends you on a 15 minute drive to the left or to the right and a pool ride of 1 mile forward by the time you comeback to your general direction you could drive as many as 22 miles and get paid for only 1 pool mile and advance ONLY 1 mile towards your final destination (it has happened to me that is how I know) and as far as the other 50% of the time you get NOTHING!!! so this feature does not work ...so the best way to handle this is by calling the rider and making the rider cancel so you don't get charged with with the cancellacion.
I have had ride that is 15 miles away (25 mins), the rider was going 0.8 miles, 3 mins each way to go to the Walgreens drive through pharmacy and back. then I had to drive 46min, 30 miles to get back to my regular driving area. all for a nice $7.95 - 52% = $3.82 .
This sort of thing happens in within lower-income communities. Too lazy to walk 10 minutes, so they wait 20 minutes for an Uber/Lyft driver to cart their asses down the street.
they should charge the passenger based on the drivers location at the time of the request. if the rider doesn't want to pay extra/wait longer, they will have to wait for a driver to be closer to them. It's not cool that we have to lose money on these trips. I inform every passenger that we are only paid for our miles driven with a pax. And paid poorly at that (.75 cents a mile in my area)
Uber should show destination because if driver only finds out after arrival, a rider is going 2 or 3 hours out of the way, driver now may leave rider stranded at the last minute, especially if they're ending their day. Not really good for driver or the rider. Therefore, it's beneficial for both parties to have destination available.
This part is completely annoying. So I get a request that is 17 minutes and I end up making $4. My first day of Uber. 3 hours online - $22. Completely ridiculous.
My issue with it is I absolutely do not drive in Las Vegas and if I accept a request it only shows me where to pick them up. I am not comfortable driving in Vegas but once I pick them up, I have to take them and that doesn't seem right to make someone do if its not comfortable for them
Yesterday, I picked up a rider from Bayonne, NJ and when I started the trip, it was too late for me to back out… they’re going to Roslyn Heights, NY (Long Island, NY) which is a 2hour drive at 4pm on a Thursday afternoon rush hour and she was even asking me if we can make the trip in 50mins because she needs to be there asap! 🤦🏻♂️
it sucks when you live in a small area like I do. My first uber drive ended up being 2hrs away from my house at 11 at night. The pay was okay, but it would be nice to know where they're going. That really inconvenienced me.
My experience is that when you drive 11 or more minutes to pick up a pax, that 9 out of 10 are short rides. I just don't take those rides. Yes, I may miss out on a long ride every now and then, but from experience they usually turn out to be short rides. THis seems to be true with Uber Eats as well.
I agree and aren’t Uber drivers allowed to drop you off your exact location? Because my last Uber ride sucks she passed by my location did not drop me off and picked up another then drop me off and I had to walk all the way across the shady streets 😤 wtf
@@liznrs30 no you have to do it in the order the app has. so if the app had that driver picking up the other person first then thats what they have to do.
This is a problem for because twice have I gotten passengers who were traveling 3hrs away and I'm sitting here thinking... "Had I needed to go to work or class within the next six hours... I'd be screwed the heck over."
I just started Uber driving two days agoI'm reading all the comments and getting great information from you allThis not seeing the destination before you accept is a security issue as well as convenience I drove someone 20 miles and I had no clue I was going that far which I didn't want to. Payout was $13 and he didn't even tipWTF
You drove that person 20 miles which cost you .54 cents per mile, so lop $10.80 off that $13, so $2.20 "profit! Then, take into account the miles you drove TO pick the person up, and considering this thread, if you drove 4 miles to pick them up? You're driving these people around for free.
man the one thing that pisses me off is seeing people taken advantage up ... sorry you feel that way bro I know the feeling , we need a drivers app a real app for real people no damn middle man which uber and lyft are they dont risk shit .. why do they get paid per damn mile and per minute ( their cut ) they should only be paid on the booking fee since the app helped you book it .. the app didnt help you drive to your destination etc
So, do LA Uber driver provide service to East LA, Compton, Bell Gardens? You take your life in your hands going there, Every city has locations that are just to dangerous. Do you really want to pick up or take a fair to those locations? So, yes, drivers need to know pick up and destination. Uber is not putting their lives on the line to drive a fair into seriously dangerous locations.
I've dropped passengers off there, I didn't feel 100% safe or comfortable but it's part of the job. I don't think drivers should be allowed to know the destination in these types of situations bc then whole groups of people are unable to get rides. How would you feel if you were a law abiding citizen but happened to live in a bad area and no one would come to pick you up? ruclips.net/video/QB1Mn_nxeow/видео.html
You can't compare east la and Bell gardens to Compton, but then again even though I go by Compton, I don't live there so can't speak from experience on that city's crime and such
Deadwood Pike This is true. I'm not in fear but I've gotten in some area's thinking wow how did I get here, the one road was long & at the end it was closed off for sum time. I threw my car in reverse and I was like I'm out of here. It was like 2 AM in the morning, got back on the main strip and called the customer's & still hesitated but because she was a girl I knew she needed a ride. Now I watch my pick up donations address. Another odd thing that has come up is when I have gotten a Bing for a ride it comes up ( unknown address ) and I told Uber I will never do it again I picked up one person one time and it was terrible and I'll never do it again for an unknown address for pick up didn't even know that could be possible!?
Hey Harry, im an LA driver and live in Pomona, i have the destination filter myself and use it in the mornings heading to downtown, and it has been working for me, I have to say it is so nice knowing at least my gas is being paid for.
I wonder if this has changed since. I don't care how long the trip is. I worry about safety. I used to deliver pizza, and there are some areas we straight out refuse. After you get robbed a few times, the high managers don't want their drivers going anymore. Same deal here, I wonder. Maybe it will change. And HOPEFULLY Not by learning it the hard way like Pizza places did.
I wish we could filter out hotels and airports so that we would not get the requests in the first place. I sometimes don't have luggage room and before I finally received my airport paper, I had to turn them down (one said to pick them up at the Marriott at Burbank as they would rather take the shuttle than re-request a ride).
Another Chicago driver here. I've been using the destination filter for about a month, usually to get to the city from or out of the city back to the suburbs. I'd say about half of the time, it works great, getting me rides to the airport or good halfway points closer to where I want to go (eliminating deadhead miles). The other half, especially when I'm in the city during times that not a ton of people are requesting rides out of the city, it will give me requests with pickups between 7-10 minutes in the other direction than where I'm going & drop offs maybe 4-5 minutes towards it (i.e., two steps back, one step forward). I've almost been late to pick up my son off the bus a few times because of these rides that are technically "towards my destination", but really only give me minimum fares & less time to get where I need/want to go. So when I put the filter on, if the pickup is less than 4 minutes away (or a Pool request, of course), I usually won't accept the ride.
I used the destination filter when on my way home last week. As soon as I put the address in I got a ping 2 blocks away going less than a mile from my home. So, it worked good. I got paid for a 15 minute trip going home.
I agree short pay outs are too low. I think many drivers may also have an issue where they may have 2 hours before they have an appointment such as picking up the kids after school. If you get a passenger's who has to go to LAX and the drop off time would mean you wouldn't make it back on time because of rush hour traffic. There for now you have to cancel the ride and now have a frustrated customer. Uber should update the app to allow for you to enter a time and location you have to be at therefor it will not match you with riders who will take you too far out. The other issue is if you do get a long ride out side your norm you can only make 2 request back to your home base otherwise you are still driving back on our own dime which put me at a lose instead of profit for such a long trip.
My wife is so optimistic... She tell me I should go pick them up even if they're 14 minutes away. "You never know, maybe they'll be going really far and it'll be a good fare." I guess I'm more of a skeptic... "What if they're going to the liquor store to get some beer?"
I had one of these rides yesterday, end of shift, tired, just wanted one more ride to finish on.Hopefully in the direction of home.12 minutes away from my house to pick up the passenger, couple of miles to the liquor store and back to his house.YeeHaa
The destination feature to me...sucks. I caught a ride from National Harbor, Md. to Dulles International Airport. $32. Coming back, I thought I'd try the destination feature. I set the trip to where I started, National Harbor, Md.. I got a call for a ride. I thought, cool. Uber had me get off the main highway, go to a shopping center (Tyson's Galleria). It took me 10 - 15 minutes to get there...mad traffic. Waze directed me to the exit prior to the one I got at. Got off again at the same exit to the shopping center and headed south off the pick up spot, maybe 3 minutes. Dropped the rider off. I took me about 30 minutes from receiving the call to the drop off. Minimum $3.75. I thought...what an f'n waste of time and gas. For me...never again. I got back on the same exit I got off from and headed home, instead of National Harbor. I was done. Too many games like that, weekly.
Hmm yea that is rough but check out my experience - you get some short ones but definitely a long one here and there: therideshareguy.com/how-does-ubers-destination-filter-work/
Take this in consideration for anyone wanting to join Uber or Lyft. $100 a day, less 7% taxes, $93, less $25 on gasoline, $68, for 10 hours that's $6.80 an hour. Don't know you guys, but I have to take in consideration that they don't give me anything for using my own property on the line here, no money for insurance, or depreciation. I have a 2016 Accord which is 10,000 below the market value, with over 40,000 miles already on it. I can't wait for the day I stop doing this... they tale advantage of people like me who lost my Job months ago and can't find one in Christmas time... just fyi for all of those out there looking to do this. Do the math first......
The destination feature has added a time setting. Basically, using the example in the video, if I was in San Diego and was looking at the prospect of deadheading all the way back to Los Angeles, now not only can I say "Only give me riders headed in that direction", I can also add a time limit. Say I wanted to be at my house by no later than 3am. My destination would be my house and 3am would be entered in the time field. from then on, Uber would only offer me rides that it calculates I can pickup and drop off and STILL make it to my destination by 3am. This is VERY useful if you live in the suburbs and get caught in what I call the "metropolitan trap" (before you can finish one ride in the city, another gets added and this repeats seemingly forever - or until you go offline in the app). With destination and time set, you'll keep getting those offers right up to the point where Uber calculates you can't get to your destination by the specified time after completing the next ride. Don't cut things TOO close, however. Unlike the Waze app, the Uber app doesn't know about unusual traffic issues. If your child's birthday party starts at 5pm, give yourself a cushion to account for traffic delays.
The issue with the destination filter is that you can't use it for incentives. I've tried using it today (in Los Angeles) and for 1 hour, I had no pings. As of right now, I suggest not using this feature. It reduces the chances of receiving ride requests and you won't receive any incentives.
I need to know .. cancel cancel cancel. My lil nothing kia soul wont make it in the mountains. Denver 70° but mountains 4ft of snow. Were gonna die getting there js.
Uber here in Atlanta has a destination option for drivers now. You do not get any bonuses or anything, but it will find you rides to where ever you are heading. Problem is they only let you do it twice in a day.
Roadford01 Lyft allows unlimited destination rides, but will log you off after 15-20 minutes without any requests. Easy enough to log back in and do it again though.
Old video, but the minimum fare for both Uber and Lyft in my area is $4.12. If a Pax doesn't show up for Lyft, you'll get a $5 payout if you have to flag them as a no-show, provided you waited the prescribed 5 minutes time, and tried to call the Pax at least once.
Doesn't being a 1099 Contract employee mean we can weed out what we want or don't want to do? (being our own boss?) i think the min should be higher i drove someone last night for $2.04 1 mile he paid $6 and i would have paid 10$ to make the same trip and the driver could have been better comped
Soooo I just did a really short trip yesterday , it was like 1 or 2 miles max. After I dropped the passenger off I looked in the trip detail. Said the rider paid $6.05 and my payout was $2.54... Is Uber seriously keeping like 60% of our money on shorter trips? This puts me a step closer to quitting Uber for good. Can't believe it . My car, my gas, my time and they keep more than half the money? Wow
UBER and LYFT are both rip offs. I quit driving for both becasue the cost of burning up a car and your fuel and car maint. and taking out taxes isn't compensated by the pay. I drove in Orange County and Sometimes LA California. If you want to make $200.00 a day you have to drive at LEAST 12 hours and that means 300 or MORE miles a day!!!. SO in a year, you'll put 60,000-80,000 miles a YEAR on a car!!! Half your rides are the minimum fare of about $5.00 which you make a measly $2.40!!! Not even worth your time.
Yea you'll definitely put miles on your car but I guess to each their own, lots of people are able to make it work: therideshareguy.com/how-to-make-28hr-as-an-uber-driver-in-san-diego/
2 years on Uber has made it available to partner drivers now but mainly the time it will take to get the rider to their destination before accepting the request.
Yeah I agree with you on that, but here's my issue.... I would like to know if I need fuel to take a person without running out of fuel And I don't want to end up in the wrong side of town What if the car breakdown in the bad part of town...
@@yosephg.6851 That's because most of the time we (drivers) rate you before you even get out of the car. It takes hours for tips to show up, and by then we've long forgotten about your cheap ass to care enough to be vindictive and go back and rate you, if it's even possible. If you have a 4.7 rating as a rider, that's like a driver having a 3-star rating. In maybe 1000 rides, I've rated maybe 5 passengers below 5 stars, and they all did something egregious during the ride. I wouldn't even pick you up with a 4.70 unless it was REEEEAAALLY slow and I was desperate. You're not alone, however. Maybe 1/10 Uber/Lyft riders tip, and it's honestly disgusting. 9/10 UberEATS customers tip at least something, though.
"Destination" driving is now available in many markets including Detroit where I drive. I like it for the drive to and from work and end of shift. It is not exact but will work you in the general direction.
I wish they would show the destinations, because there are some cities that I don't want to drive in. I'm sure that everyone has 1-2 places where they live, where it could or has been dangerous. I hope that they take it in consideration when it comes to the safety of the drivers. I did sign up to be a driver, but did not follow though because there are a couple cities near me that I have had problems and rather not go back. If there is a change in the policy, Please let us know...
Not a big deal just simple Call the rider and say I want to confirm the destination please! That's it! And whoala you already know if u take it or just cancel it that's simple. Too short or too long trips I just cancel. I do long trips only for cash! And cash always upfront!
In our country uber drivers just call and ask where the requester wants to go if you don't tell him he will just cancel it. I have seen a post yesterday on a fb group where a driver was telling people not to use uber if they have problems telling the destination before starting the ride. He said if something about prestige. Like telling the destination would hurt your prestige.
Uber/Lyft should organize rides by "general area" so we CAN cherry pick BUT we should be able to cherry pick in our profile settings in advance so it will only ping for the area we want in our profile setting (hypothetically speaking if that eas an option given).
Thanks for the info. I suspected that was the reason. As far as I'm concerned, I'm in OKC and the reason I want to know where the rider is going has to do with sports. Specifically, I Will NOT Go Anywhere Chesapeake Arena Downtown During A Thunder Home Game, Period. Too much hair-pulling on my end with the crowds, Uber's specific instructions on how to pick up/drop off and especially the fact that there's too much construction going on downtown makes for a nightmare that's not worth it. (breathes) Okay, that's why I want to know. Thanks for the video.
Have you ever heard ubermotor in some cities in Indonesia? It only cost you about 1 dollar for 10 km. Instead of car, the vehicle is motorcycle. There is so many uber motorcycle in Jakarta. It's almost impossible to get passengers in more than 10 minutes radius.
Thanks. I'm not a driver. But I was mystified when my driver wanted to know where we were going. "Doesn't it tell you on the App?" I actually was afraid that she was the wrong Uber. She was pretty happy when she found out we were going to the airport...because that's a pretty long-ish trip.
Is there a lawsuit against this? Otherwise, how can we start one? I dont think it is unfair that uber deactivates drivers for cancelling short rides. I think drivers should know ahead of time even before accepting the trip where they go to either accept or cancel.
You know the other problem is ? Uber offer express or pool but it the price of 1 rider so you are basic giving free rides. And on top of the nonsense for promo you have earned that already really?
Very good helpful video 👍. Question- I sometimes see miles and estimated time to pickup and to destination, as well as price before hand. But sometimes do not see that. Is that just based off city? Or some other reason?
Some markets have upfront pricing for all drivers. In other markets, it maybe only available to certain drivers with certain criteria (such as maintaining a certain acceptance rate.
It pisses me off when i pick someone up in town drive 10 miles away come back then have go right back and go up there again smh. Uber should let us know where were going bc sometimes at end of shift i dont want to keep driving that far its not very safe either of your tired. It dont show us who our passenger are till we accept and wont tell us where were going till we confirm. Its bullshit
fyi filter them out now .. call your passengers ask them where they are going .. if they are rude adn say they put it in the system tell them im sorry there is a central issue where is your destination .. once they tell you and if you dont want the ride tell them you will be 32 minutes there are ducks crossing the road and your not one of them
Uber doesn't want to change this I have sent this concern to Uber and it doesn't care. So what I do is text the rider and ask. If the rider doesn't respond, I just do not pick up the rider. I live in a country where safety is an issue, and therefore I have to do it. The uncomfortableness of intrusion is a small price to pay for your safety. Some areas do not worth both in terms of safety and a short trip for a small fare.
I have drove for uber for only two days. I picked up a person today that was going 63 miles away from the city. It paid a whole $41 and an unpaid hour drive back to where fares are. I would of never took this ride if I had know ahead of time. If it is a certain distance, they ought to give a heads up.
I had a ride request the other day 13 minutes away in the very direction I had just left so I ignored it :). Too far to chance it when potentially it could be a 5 dollar ride and I heading to another specific area. Now, I am in DC and it's surrounding burbs, so a request at 8 minutes or above is rare, so it's not really an issue here.
Please. I want to use Google Maps instead of Uber Maps. I have the Google Map App, now how do I step-by-step, move into using the Google Map on my Uber Driver App?
Be careful of riders cancelling the ride while in the car on the way to drop them off. If you're using a different navigation app, it won't show until you are already at the destination, so now the rider got a free ride and you just wasted time and gas. Yeah, I had one try to do that to me recently, but I caught it. He was trying to act cool and give me directions, I'm like oh no, I have to get paid first buddy.
I took a ride yesterday and they wanted to go from belleview fl to Tampa airport I had no idea they needed to go that far...I had a quarter tank of gas wtf uber
I find "destination app" as another way to get hosed by uber. If you use it the surge is not in effect and it doesn't count regards any bonuses. So passenger gets charged for surge pricing but it doesn't get passed on. As a result, the second I hit it during surging periods I get multiple requests. I say to myself, " where were these same request 2 min. ago.
Because we'd all cherry pick rides. I DO wish that if the destination is extremely far (over an hour) that it would give us a heads up. I once got a ride going over an hour and a half away across state lines where I can't accept a return trip. I should definitely have a say in that!
Short trips don't really bother me when i'm driving around the area they are close to. I pick up a lot of college kids at the university close to me. If you rack up a lot of short trips in a small area it actually adds up pretty quick considering it doesn't cost much in gas. What I hate are the trips that are 20+ minutes to the pickup location and 4 minutes down the road to the drop off but that seems to be one of the more common problems with drivers. Anything between 1-15 minutes away is usually okay for me considering Uber seems to over estimate the arrival time. I'll get fares that will say 10 minutes away and it will only end up taking me 5 minutes in real time. It definitely helps to know all the shortcuts in your area.
At the CBX driver accept trip only to start the trip and if it’s a short trip they cancel them and never lose their spot in the Queue. This isn’t allowed since Uber states Passengers seated in their vehicle. These drivers screw passengers that have short rides and leave many of them without a ride home😡 Also screws honest drivers out of long ride and stick them with short trips. Deactivate all those dishonest drivers!!
What do you mean when you say destinations isn't fully launched? I drive the LA area. I used it this weekend when I was in Santa Monica to go home (Covina) and manage to catch 3 trips. 1 short, 2 long and ended up in Whittier (15 min from home) with 1 of 2 remaining. Not sure why I was allowed to use destinations 3 times, seeing it has a limit of 2 uses per day. I used the 3 between 12:30am and 3am.
There's always food delivery like, Deliv, Uber eats, Doordash, grub hub...ETC i gave up on having strangers in my car not worth there shit or my time, Deprecation on my cars miles and maintenance plus lets not forget uber's pay rate base on pick up and mile pay screw you uber/Lyft no thank you. I'm done with uber and lyft for good... PS. that was a good vent/rant i needed this...
That's the one thing that does suck because Maybe you don't want to drive 40 miles in bumper to bumper traffic or go to a certain city like example Chicago especially if you want to Drive maybe more in Orland Park or Naperville, Wheaton, Plainfield Aurora area! I see it being frustrating too when you drive 15 min to get someone and you are driving them 1 mile away!! If they changed this Uber would be better.
I wish there was a way Uber would let drivers select how many miles they will accept rides for. That might be a solution for the future app. For example, the driver is only willing to accept a trip going 10 miles max for a short trip Or 20+ miles for a longer trip if desired.
I cancel based on gut feeling all the time. Or accept get the address then cancel. I know I’ll get de activated or something. It’s my car if I don’t want an ass that needs a 2 mile ride to a laundromat then I don’t have to give that ride. Uber sucks. The second you accept a ride you should earn 10$. Millenials are so typical for abusing this. I drove 4 of them from Abington to Quincy, for 9$. That was 20$. Easy. Uber left it on the table...
I do the text to find out where they're going. Screw that. It's bullshit that we don't know where we're going. I do understand the logic from Uber's side... but they need to understand how unfair it is to the driver
Understand that here in mass we have uber pool express and i have not met a rider yet who understands it. Pick them up in this area, they are not there. Call them and i now have to go directly to where they are. Drop them off in a certain area, no they want you to drop them off exactly where they are going. Now im loosing money, and if you explain what express pool is they get upset.
For some reason when 2 UberEATS orders come in at the same time a double order with a lack of a better term it's not showing me where they are going. This has happened in the last two weeks. Kinda sucks cause I would like to see a map. Never seen this before. Everything else is normal. Single orders I can see a map. Same happens when it asks me to pick someone up the map is there.
My fear is a long ride I'm not anticipating. What if they want to go an hour away, or even further? Does Uber take this into consideration? If I accept the ride (without knowing) am I obligated to go on a road trip?
You can let them know you can't drive that far, especially if you have to get back to your house to pick up kids, eat dinner with family, or just the fact you don't want to drive that far. The best thing to do is just be honest with them and say something like, "I'm sorry, but Uber doesn't tell us drivers the passenger's destination, and unfortunately I can't drive this far out of my way. You can cancel the ride and request another driver." If you have a reason why (doctor's appt, picking up kids, etc.) you can tell them and some passengers will be understanding.
I am a new driver (1 WEEK) YA, I Thought it was me, I thought that I didn't know how to use the app. I also think that Uber don't show the ride's destination so that you can't refuse the ride. When I take a long trip and I wanna get back, it would be nice to take riders that are headed back in my direction, but I keep getting taken further away from my area, what I wind up doing is logging off, head back to neer where I wanna be then log on again(waist time and gas)
Subdude how is Uber working for you, I just got approved today. I would love to know where the passenger is traveling, because I also have a part time job, I don't want to go out my way, and late for work
I got the hang of it now, I am making $50-60 on weekdays about 4 hours, and $175-225 Fri and 200-250 on Sat. about $700 a week. I am in LA, I go near down town LA for rush hour rides and I try to take only surges and other guaranteed higher rates from 1.4 minimum or 1.6. surges can be 2.0 or 2.5 in hot areas. Regular rate not worth the effort. best hours are 1:45- 2:30 AM.

I want to learn how to maximize
The minimum fare should be $10 dollar
juice east agree!!! but then Uber would need to charge the customer $20 to pay you $10 because they are deducting 45%-50% from every fare.
No, Uber just shouldn't take such a ridiculously high percentage of what drivers make. Or a percentage at all. A flat daily fee.
I agree... on extremely short trips... it needs to be more and uber needs to forfeit their cut on these short trips
Mark Laseau Everything you said is 100% correct. You Speak the truth. They are fooling us with big time!
Queen Elizabeth II People with guns don’t get killed, right?
It's not where you are going. It's where you pick up. Uber gives you the option of canceling a ride. Taxi drivers did not have this luxury. You had to go through a dispatcher and you better have a good reason. And yes you do not feel safe was an acceptable reason.
Uber should show the pickup location and the destination.
@queenbeethatme100 sometimes I prefer to stay in an area because I have plans there
queenbeethatme100 they should be forced to tip for short trip . You must tip for short destinations
If you want to cherry pick that's your right, it's your car, and you have a right to know what you are agreeing to before agreeing to it, at the very least after finding out it's not for you, you too should be able to change your mind and say no.
FullSpectrum Survivalist 1
Why would you accept that . I don't take anything over 8 minutes away
Especially if you are very busy and you get a request that is 10 minutes away and the ride is only 3 blocks. I've had that happen a few times.
Yea that's a good time to ignore the ride.
Chuck Reiss g
same
I have had ride that is 15 miles away (25 mins), the rider was going 0.8 miles, 3 mins each way to go to the Walgreens drive through pharmacy and back. then I had to drive 46min, 30 miles to get back to my regular driving area. all for a nice $7.95 - 52% = $3.82 .
Yea I'd ignore those long eta requests.
Uber pay is shit
Lyft isn't any better.
Time in driver mode: 17 hrs, 51 min
Ride payments: $178.60 $10 an hour before taxes/wear and tear on the vehicle.
yesterday - Time in driver mode: 1 hr, 25 min
Ride payments: $8.00
Tips: $3.00
Lyft fees: - $2.00
Your earnings: $9.00
You could have cancelled. I have to cancel all the time on NJ to NYC rides.
it sucks when you live in a small area like I do.
THis seems to be true with Uber Eats as well.
uber pool should be discontinued
+michael iwaniec after you accept the fist uber pool request tap on the clipboard icon not to accept any new request until you finish that one
I agree - I'm not a fan of it but some people are: therideshareguy.com/why-i-like-uberpool-lyft-line-rides/
I agree and aren’t Uber drivers allowed to drop you off your exact location? Because my last Uber ride sucks she passed by my location did not drop me off and picked up another then drop me off and I had to walk all the way across the shady streets 😤 wtf
@@liznrs30 no you have to do it in the order the app has. so if the app had that driver picking up the other person first then thats what they have to do.
lol yeah I just decline/go offline during a pool...but half the time i dont even accept pool requests...only deliveries and XL
Windy Girl lol basically
man the one thing that pisses me off is seeing people taken advantage up ... sorry you feel that way bro I know the feeling , we need a drivers app a real app for real people no damn middle man which uber and lyft are they dont risk shit .. why do they get paid per damn mile and per minute ( their cut ) they should only be paid on the booking fee since the app helped you book it .. the app didnt help you drive to your destination etc
Christian Evans I have that sometimes I do Lyft as well and I see they have it. Where you see where they go
Can't you reduce the per mile cost by buying a cheaper car, Windy Girl?
why the rider doesn't have a picture all I can see is a rating.
Not sure but you can see the pic on lyft: ruclips.net/video/1CLxgAHtHiw/видео.html
So, do LA Uber driver provide service to East LA, Compton, Bell Gardens? You take your life in your hands going there,
Every city has locations that are just to dangerous.
+The Rideshare Guy Indeed
yes and I haven't had any problems picking up in those areas
How do you get he destination filter? Because mine is updated and I still don't have it
Nice!
Good tips, thanks for sharing.
South Jersey here. Accepted a ride "toward my destination" (Riverside, NJ) and I was in Blackwood, NJ, and it took me into fucking Philly.
I used the destination filter when on my way home last week. As soon as I put the address in I got a ping 2 blocks away going less than a mile from my home. So, it worked good. I got paid for a 15 minute trip going home.
Nice - can't wait to try it! Video soon :)
Uber needs to pay better or they will be going out of business, riders benefit at the drivers expense.
jboog1974 They wont go out of business. They are doing it because they can get away with it.
The "Set Destination" feature does not work. After doing so I still get requests from riders going to a different city and different direction
Hmm yea that doesn't sound like it's working - what do other drivers in your area say? And have you e-mailed Uber?
I totally agree with you...sometimes the "destination feature" is worthless..so my advice to you is to "create" you own destination filter...
You are right on. Uber driver pays $12 and $6.40 goes to Uber. To me I don’t think it’s fair. For shorter trips Uber should take less.
Yes don't do it. Waste of time. Just text the person ask them where their destination is. Then make ur decision.
I always use Uber mostly to go to liquor store to buy my booze lol 😆
Dontrip1904 - why not do it through Amazon Prime Now?

Not $250 a month it's like $175.00 a WEEK!
Good point - if you're on incentives, then you don't want to use it.
With Lyft, you can see it on Lyft Line request.
Yea good call, I also heard that you can see the destination on Uber if you have the 'destination filter' on - still need to try it :)
how you put destination filter on?
not now
Soooo I just did a really short trip yesterday , it was like 1 or 2 miles max.
The Rideshare Guy
If you consider spending thousands of dollars for different vehicles every couple years "making it work" be my guest!!
Motor City Man You said it exactly for what it is!
2 years on Uber has made it available to partner drivers now but mainly the time it will take to get the rider to their destination before accepting the request.
Yeah I agree with you on that, but here's my issue....
I would like to know if I need fuel to take a person without running out of fuel
And I don't want to end up in the wrong side of town
What if the car breakdown in the bad part of town...
I'll tip much higher for short rides. Like if it's only $10, I'll tip $10 or 100%. If it's a $50 ride I may tip $15 or 30%.
damn I never tip and have a 4.7 score
@@yosephg.6851 Cheap ass. You're exactly the kind of rider that makes our job harder. Like damn, you're already getting a ride on a discount, smh
Yea I like it too - will have a video on it soon :)
If there is a change in the policy, Please let us know...
in Malaysia the way bill only show 'as directed' once u accept the pickup.theres no way u will know where's rider going until u start trip.
yea same here in the us.
Not a big deal just simple Call the rider and say I want to confirm the destination please! That's it! And whoala you already know if u take it or just cancel it that's simple. Too short or too long trips I just cancel. I do long trips only for cash! And cash always upfront!
Same here.. Took a guy to the airport yesterday (about 40 miles). Dude didn't even give me a tip.. Smh
Hello I been doing Uber and Lyft for about 3 weeks I seen your videos. Thanks. For your advice
Thank you for all of your great advice and content. I just have a quick question, how much does Inuit's Quickbooks cost?
The cost varies depending on the package but it's usually $5/mo or less - check here: therideshareguy.com/youtube/nativeintuit
Thank you! :)
No I haven't but thx for the info.
Thanks. I'm not a driver. But I was mystified when my driver wanted to know where we were going. "Doesn't it tell you on the App?" I actually was afraid that she was the wrong Uber. She was pretty happy when she found out we were going to the airport...because that's a pretty long-ish trip.
I learned on my first day Ubering to not accept any ride for pick up more that 2 miles away.
So can you still not see where they want to go before accepting?
Is there a lawsuit against this? Otherwise, how can we start one? I dont think it is unfair that uber deactivates drivers for cancelling short rides. I think drivers should know ahead of time even before accepting the trip where they go to either accept or cancel.
You know the other problem is ? Uber offer express or pool but it the price of 1 rider so you are basic giving free rides. And on top of the nonsense for promo you have earned that already really?
destination feature in Charlotte works but you only get 2 times a day.
How to know that how many people (passenger) are riding Uber
fyi filter them out now .. call your passengers ask them where they are going .. if they are rude adn say they put it in the system tell them im sorry there is a central issue where is your destination .. once they tell you and if you dont want the ride tell them you will be 32 minutes there are ducks crossing the road and your not one of them
Uber doesn't want to change this I have sent this concern to Uber and it doesn't care.
Sounds like the app should have given you a long trip notification.
So I will see the rider’s destination once I accept the ride?
Please. I want to use Google Maps instead of Uber Maps. I have the Google Map App, now how do I step-by-step, move into using the Google Map on my Uber Driver App?
Here are instructions for setting that up: help.uber.com/h/bdeb7821-30f0-45eb-b073-2e9dc7b508eb
I took a ride yesterday and they wanted to go from belleview fl to Tampa airport I had no idea they needed to go that far...I had a quarter tank of gas wtf uber
edward benkleman wow!!
I would like to know because I may not have enough gas! I accepted a ride and found out it was 2 1/2 hours away.
I find "destination app" as another way to get hosed by uber. If you use it the surge is not in effect and it doesn't count regards any bonuses. So passenger gets charged for surge pricing but it doesn't get passed on. As a result, the second I hit it during surging periods I get multiple requests. I say to myself, " where were these same request 2 min. ago.
You still get surge on DF requests but they don't count towards guarantees.
I have had rides for $1.32
sounds like pool :(
SamytheGreek that's criminal.
Because we'd all cherry pick rides. I DO wish that if the destination is extremely far (over an hour) that it would give us a heads up. I once got a ride going over an hour and a half away across state lines where I can't accept a return trip. I should definitely have a say in that!
Yup agreed, I listed that as one of the features I'd like to see here: therideshareguy.com/9-features-id-like-to-see-uber-and-lyft-add-in-2017/
I've seen the destination via the waybill before, not anymore though. My guess it was removed with the new update.
Yup.
whwew is the destination feature for new drivers? I only see the option to select riders based on their rating. thanx
I still dont understand what the booking fee is for do you ?
Atlanta minimum fare is $3.75. Should be higher. Behind LA, ATL has the worst traffic.
Lyft has a destination filter in LA, and you can use it three times in a day. I tried it twice today, but didn't get any rides.
Yea they do but it only works with lyft line rides so it's very rare that you get a match :( Uber's works better.
Yea I usually ignore the long ETA rides.
At the CBX driver accept trip only to start the trip and if it’s a short trip they cancel them and never lose their spot in the Queue. This isn’t allowed since Uber states Passengers seated in their vehicle. These drivers screw passengers that have short rides and leave many of them without a ride home😡
Also screws honest drivers out of long ride and stick them with short trips.
Deactivate all those dishonest drivers!!
anyone ever get these " processing payment " delays.. I took a 21 mile trip through dallas today in the rain.. no money has showed up yet.
It was just fully launched last week!
+The Rideshare Guy
hasn't been launched in San Diego area that I have seen.
Ricky Palabon: I agree being a for messenger/route driver
former
It's called random chance. On your way home? You could be home after doing the run
my exceptance screen does not look like that... do I need an updated app??
That's the one thing that does suck because Maybe you don't want to drive 40 miles in bumper to bumper traffic or go to a certain city like example Chicago especially if you want to Drive maybe more in Orland Park or Naperville, Wheaton, Plainfield Aurora area! I see it being frustrating too when you drive 15 min to get someone and you are driving them 1 mile away!! If they changed this Uber would be better.
Uber is great for the riders, hell for the drivers.
I wish there was a way Uber would let drivers select how many miles they will accept rides for. That might be a solution for the future app. For example, the driver is only willing to accept a trip going 10 miles max for a short trip Or 20+ miles for a longer trip if desired.
Same thing with ubereats. You can't see DestinatIon until you arrive at restaurant and pickup food
Found out if you set a destination on the app you will not be credited by UBER for the trip but still get paid.
It won't go towards incentives/guarantees but you definitely still get paid :)
Who told you minimum fare fare for cab is $5.50 ?
For some reason when 2 UberEATS orders come in at the same time a double order with a lack of a better term it's not showing me where they are going. This has happened in the last two weeks. Kinda sucks cause I would like to see a map. Never seen this before. Everything else is normal. Single orders I can see a map. Same happens when it asks me to pick someone up the map is there.
Hopefully it is just a temporary glitch.
Ty. I Would like to know so that I can decline if the ride is to far.
Yes, you can ask the passenger to cancel or you can end the trip if you can't drive that far.
Now there is a way, I chose the destination (home), head in that direction and get pings from riders going my way.
