It would be interesting to speculate where Grogan and Dicky would fall if they were surrounded by more complete teams like the modern guys. Saw Grogan in his Sr year. He spent a lot of time running for his life and on his back!
I agree with your top 4 but personally I'd put Jake Waters in ahead of Freeman... Perhaps there's some Prince era bias there, but Waters was so good, and such a good leader. If it weren't for the "trendsetter" aspect of Chad May, I think you could argue that Waters could even move up to number 4. I loved Chad May though and he was a winner before winning was a thing around here so he's a solid 4. Your top three are spot on. Roberson has talent to spare and if he doesn't get hurt in 03 we might be playing for more than a big 12 championship that year. Klein played with more heart and toughness than anyone I ever watched and earned every yard, accolade, and award he got, and honestly should have come home with a Heisman if they truly took into consideration the complete individual and value to team rather than just the stats... But Bishop was on another planet. You knew we were gonna win and probably win by 50 when he stepped on the field. He'd go off for a 40 yard run, breaking several tackles along the way and then jump up and go let the opponent know he'll be back for more in a minute...it's like he never got tired or hurt. That dude had swagger like no one else, he had the talent, and he had the heart. He's basically Klein, Roberson, and May all rolled into one bad man... And he threw a ball 97 yards in the air in practice one day...Nobody does that! Ricky wins the Heisman that year, but remind me what happened when Ricky and Michael met up that year?? I think Ricky went something like 25 carries for 43 yards while getting stomped 48-7. I think the logo on his helmet helped keep that Heisman out of Manhattan that year.
Michael Bishop was a bad, bad man for sure! He was even more otherworldly to me being a 9/10 year old kid watching him. He will always be my favorite athlete of all time.
Are you fricking stoned!? Waters was not even an honorable mention in my opinion, he sucked ass! Daniels would have been a better choice over waters. Bishop, Roberson, Klein, May, Beasley, Freeman, in that order. The first three were the only ones I think are even worth mentioning. It's Bishop and Roberson in my mind!😉👍
I'm a straight up OSU fan, I agree totally with this list, except for 1&2. Bishop was definitely more talented but he was the leader or the warrior Colin Klein was, Colin Klein was the man who wouldn't take no for an answer, I was impressed by Bishop, Klein's will and determination left me in awe.
Bishop had a cannon for sure. Oh, so close. If he hangs on to the ball and doesn't carry it like a loaf of bread K-state beats A&M and plays for the national championship. He was a stud and he knew it. With just a little humility and sense of responsibility we win. The brash attitude did not serve him or us well. Kline was the general. You know he knew the playbook, took care with the ball, was a humble leader. Glad to see him coaching. He will be a great head coach some day. El was my fave. The way he carried himself you knew he was a real stud. Wish we had taken it to Ohio State but his judgment put a cloud over the game. Beasley was a great one too. Our offense evolved over the years and miss this style of offense. Seems we aren't doing many screens these days. Chad May was a really good call. I remember him scorching Nebraska. Osborne: basketball on grass. Agree with Grogan, Dickey, and Freeman. People forget, if we had no Freeman I'd guess that Jordy Nelson never makes it to the NFL. Freeman led the Cats to consecutive wins vs Texas without Snyder. Excellent job.
All time big 8 qb and he's only honorable mention! Klein would be #1 in being the toughest ever to play qb but come on we all held our breath when he passed. Props for putting may on your list. He's the forgotten one for some reason
I can't argue with the top 4.. Collin Klein was a beast and a bruiser that's for sure.. I remember when they put his stats up against Manziels on tv.. I forget what game it was but Kleins stats blew Manziels out of the water!!!
John, man, you've got to talk through the highlights. The video gets very choppy without any audio. And they are QBs. I know QB at KSU is thought of as just another RB, but still show some of their throws. Like Bishop's throw in the Fiesta Bowl to Morgan, or any of his many 3rd a 30+ first down conversions. (KSU had a lot of holding penalties because Bishop scrambled a lot). Don't propagate the idea that all KSU QBs do is run. That said, I might move Roberson up a bit. But, overall, it's hard to argue with opinion. Mine: 1. Bishop 2. Roberson 3. Klein 4. Freeman 5. May But I do appreciate that you mentioned Waters. I also liked Kavanaugh. Not that either are top 5 candidates, but they had their moments.
Great list! I would have put Beasley ahead of Freeman though. Beasley doesn’t get near enough shine for what he did during his time as the starter. My feeling is that it’s because he was sandwiched between Bishop and Roberson.
Bishop had the talent over Klein, but Klein was tougher and a more level headed leader. Bishop was too emotional on the field and it would hurt his team at times. I would flip flop one and two.
Where do you think Skylar Thompson will end up on the list? Depends on his senior year for sure, but he could end up with multiple school records. I think he’ll end up stepping it up more this fall and could end up ahead of Freeman.
Yeah there’s a lot of upward mobility for Skylar this year depending on how the year goes. I think he will always have a special place being the guy to fully embrace Klieman right away no matter what the numbers say at the end of the day.
Agreed. Unless Skylar has an all-American type season, I don’t think he could pass up Chad May. May really helped launch Snyder’s career and was Bill’s first real star QB. Also, I’m a little disappointed Carl Straw didn’t get at least a shoutout
I totally agree with your list. #5 I would probably squeeze Beasley over Freeman. No debate on #1. Michael Bishop is in a league of his own. He was unbelievable to watch. The 1998 K-State squad was arguably the best one in school history even though it ended on a sour note.
The 1998 and 2011-2012 teams were two totally different teams with two totally different QBs who were exemplary leaders and players for what those teams required to win. On an absolute comparison scale, though, it is laughable to say that Klein was a better player than Bishop. Bishop was, indeed, on another planet and is most probably the greatest athlete to play at K-State besides Michael Beasley for basketball.
Michael Bishop was Tim Tebow before Tim Tebow...a truly amazing single-wing dual-threat qb. And I remember his HAIL MARY for the Patriots in 2000. At that time I believe he was 2nd on their depth chart behind Drew Bledsoe, ahead of a then-rookie from Michigan who shall be nameless. Talk about revisionist history, if only MB had been better in 2001 training camp...
I agree. I completely disagree with this guy. Roberson has my vote as #1, and maybe Klein at #2 over Bishop but I'd listen to arguments for either of those at #2. And for the record, I was a student during Bishop's time and had season tickets so I'm not someone who gives priority to who was more recent. After those 3 I have no issues with May on the list. I agree with others that Beasley deserves to be on the list more than Freeman.
@@wadewassenberg76 I like your assessment. I watched Roberson go crazy and could easily hv been Russell Wilson. Not sure what happened bc i lost contact with him and the fam. I played drums at his church where his uncle was the preacher in Baytown. The way he transitioned from Highschool to college was amazing. He was a landmark for his time at KState and gave that program alot of saving grace at a time full of great players.
1) Freeman, 2) Klein, 3) Dickey, 4) Waters, 5) Beasley (only qb in ksu history to win11 games 2 straight years and win 2 bowl games) HM: Bishop, Roberson, May, Grogan

Bishop would have a national title without the letdown against A&M. I agree with this list.
No doubt. Bishop deserved a natty.

Bishop was so fun to watch!
Shocked to not hear mentions for Dickey and Grogan.
I mentioned them at the beginning of the video as being very close to making the official list! I definitely have respect for those two.

I agree with your #1 quarterback, but you forgot Bishop was one game from the National Championship Game.

I’ve met Michael Bishop and Colin Klein
Klein... Sad only 1 bad game cost him the Heisman
Roberson was 4th in rushing and that's with Sproles at the same time as Sproles!
Totally agree with this list.
Top 5 Locketts who played at K state? Lol

As an aside to your first point, will K-State ever unretire the number 11?
God is good
Bishop number 1??? You be smoking something special! What did Bishop win? Dude you are smoking some high quality shit!
Bez won games, yes he facilitated O, but reality is those wins where because of the D being so dominate and the ST.
Michael Bishop was Tim Tebow before Tim Tebow...a truly amazing single-wing dual-threat qb. And I remember his HAIL MARY for the Patriots in 2000. No way Lynn Dickey should not be on this list!! Not a runner but maybe the best passer of them all.
Now do RBs. Or is that too easy because Sproles is #1?
Bishop
Definitely
Ell Roberson III
I agree. I completely disagree with this guy. Roberson has my vote as #1, and maybe Klein at #2 over Bishop but I'd listen to arguments for either of those at #2. I would have loved to see what he and KState would have done in 2003 had he not broken his hand.
That background is terrible. Way too trippy! Lol
Waters was a lot more effective than Freeman.
Terrance Newman and Michael bishop the best players in k state history and I played Colin Klein in 2011 he wasn't no Michael bishop not even close
Emaw
1) Freeman, 2) Klein, 3) Dickey, 4) Waters, 5) Beasley (only qb in ksu history to win11 games 2 straight years and win 2 bowl games)
HM: Bishop, Roberson, May, Grogan
Most unique list I’ve seen yet!
@@JohnKurtzShow It's a bad list Larry
Bishop was, is, and will always be a chump. I'd take klien and Roberson over him without a 2nd thought.
Bishop didn't win anything that matters. His turnovers were devastating. Win something then talk.
Bishop on chess board ..
CC cline
I am early 80s KSU toss up.
Who is making more money now??
